I thought it would be nice to have a thread for books that changed the way you view health, nutrition, diet, and even life.....here are mine....
The China Study by Dr. T. Colin Campbell - Science & results prove: change your diet and dramatically reduce the risk of cancer, diabetes, heart disease and obesity.
The 80/10/10 Diet by Dr. Douglas Graham - My bible. Health, happiness, vitality, energy, love, passion, no drugs, no disease....pure bliss
John Robbins - any of his books - they are all AMAZING!!!!
The Mucusless Diet by Arnold Ehret - Ehret cured himself of Bright's disease through diet.
Mad Cowboy - (there is a movie as well) Very shocking & real. Scary.
The World Peace Diet by William Tuttle
Eat to Live & also Fasting & Eating for Health by Dr. Joel Fuhrman

Karen Bridson (Author)
I take this book out of the library every few months....very motivating.

I love to read! However, I've never read any books on nutrition so I'm excited to see what everyone says! (Mostly I'm posting this so I can easily find this in my list of topics I've responded to. Sorry for offering nothing substantive to your thread!)0

Women Food and God by Geneen Roth
This book changed my life. It's about food addiction but more so about really figuring out your feelings about food.0 -
Pratical Ethics by Peter Singer (probably more focused book by the same author is The Ethics of What We Eat)
and
The Macrobiotic Way by Michio Kushi.
Other than that, a bunch of stuff in the forums here (Thanks Banks et al), some articles at the Australian Institute of Sport and a few other things online.
Edit: a few movies, like Super Size Me, Fast Food Nation, and Food Inc reinforced my views.0 -

The Omnivore's Dilemma!
More recently, The China Study.0 -
one day i decided to read Diet for a New America (John Robbins) and Omnivore's Dilemma (Michael Pollan) back-to-back. Diet made me almost a vegetarian, and then Omnivore kind of backed that up.
Omnivore is probably my most favorite book on diet, food culture / social culture and nutrition that i've ever read.
i also read that one by Kingsolver, but didn't like it very much. i felt it was a little too "fluffy" for me.0 -
encyclopedia of healing foods - michael murry
not neccesarily for dieting, but has TONS of information of what to eat and what to avoid for certain diseases or infections, or just disorders. My dad has psoriasis and we found that milk products and red meat can cause it to inflame....and no doctor has ever told my dad anything like that0 -
BUMP!
ive seen food, inc0 -
bump
sorry - I've never read books on nutrition!!0 -
For me, a combination of reading In Defense of Food (Michael Pollan), watching Food Inc., hearing some talks by T. Colin Campbell and watching various videos on PETA's website ultimately led to the way I've changed and am continuing to change my diet.
I just started The China Study and want to read Women, Food and God because I used some of Geneen Roth's older, less popular books while I was in therapy for bulimia 5 years ago and I think if I would have stuck with her message/ideas, I wouldn't have ended up on the complete opposite of the eating disorder spectrum and 100 lbs heavier :grumble: oy vey
I love the list of movies and hope I can find some more of these on Netflix Instant Play (I know for sure I have King Corn and Killer at Large on my I.P. list)0 -
Hands-down, The China Study. Reading it is like the end of innocence (but in a good way, of course!). Thanks for posting this thread since I'm getting some good ideas on what to read next.
