:flowerforyou: It's such a long time since I've posted with this amazing group.
I do hope you all don't mind me popping in again.
My goals seem to be the same .....and I do hope that this time I'll make it work.

At the end of September DH and I will be meeting his brother and family in Spain, soooo .....seeing as it's years since we've seen them ..... I'd ....make that We!!! (DH is also eating sensibly) ..... like to know that we at least look a bit better in the clothes we have!!!
I of course would love to drop a few dress sizes and HAVE to buy some new clothes!!! DH isn't planning on that.

 So ...here I go again......

It is hot, hot hot out there. I am the chief procrastinator of the world. i got the notification of our car registrations due at the end of the month. The easiest way to do them is on line but I didn't do them. So since they are due by the 28th of this month I had to go to the local branch office to do it:sad: Yesterday at the Y I left my umbrella so I went and got it. It was to hot to exercise so I didn't. That is going to limit what I eat today. But all the 'lakes' from yesterdays torrential rainfall are gone. We got 5 inches in 8 hours. I get my hair cut tomorrow!!!!!1 Yippee skippee!!!!!! It is my usual hair cut that I have had for years, but it is long enough now it isn't very manageable.

See you later, Joyce in Indiana

Hello - I've looked at this thread before now but decided to jump in and say hello! I'm 53, English (from Cheshire) but now live in the USA. I live in Massachusetts, close to Boston, and love it here. I've gradually gained weight over the past 10 years or so and now need to lose about 40lbs. I've lost 13 lbs since December but still have a way to go. I'm going home to England for two weeks in the middle of July and my goal will be to keep things in control and not blow all the hard work I'm doing at the moment!

    Hi Everyone,
Haven't checked in for a few days, so I'm popping in so I don't get out of the habit. I tend to lurk, lol.
Finally lost my fifth pound. Since I've only been doing this for a few weeks I'm happy with that.
Congrats to all the Blackhawk fans. I'm in mourning since I'm a huge Boston Bruins fan! What a fantastic series, both teams were amazing.
Busy day bringing all four dogs to the vet for check-ups. The waiting room was crazy! So was the bill at the end of visit, gulp.
On our way home, a HUGE snapping turtle was in middle of road. I happened to have a long piece of wood in car, so he clamped onto it, and I dragged him to side of road. This was the biggest one I've ever seen...
Got my gall bladder ultrasound yesterday, and it showed that my gall bladder is ''unremarkable''. Should I be insulted?! I am relieved, but still wondering why I have such discomfort in that area.
Hoping all is going well with everyone!
    Critter Sue ♥

Got caught up with reading the posts. Sure enjoy sharing all the ups and downs with everyone.

jb- Great news about Mariah. Keeping her in our prayers.

Welcome Debbie, jdlyng, Patceho and Kadee. This is a great place to share and find support.

Pat- Sure hope you feel better soon. I think being sick when it is hot is hard.

Terri- Congrates on the loss. Plants are a good idea. When I lost 75 I treated myself to a new braclet. When I hit 100 my DIL and GD and I are going to have our toe nails done. I have never done that and looking forwartd to it. 13 pounds to go.

MsKarioz- Don't give up, things will change. One Day at a Time.

Amanda- Good Luck with the surgery. Your dad is very lucky to have you.

Debbie- Happy Birthday. Hope you do something speical for yourself.

Sue SD- Good Luck with you surgery.

Today was my weigh in day and I lost 5.6 pounds. Really glad as we took a quick trip to Iowa this last weekend and ate out alot. We had a great weekend. Went and met our son and family at Branch Oak by Lincoln and camped out Friday night. It was relaxing to sit and watch the boats. Then on Saturday morning we went on to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to our son Chris. Enjoied spending time with the 3 GB. Then on Sunday thier oldest was baptized and was glad to be able to be a part of that, he is 6 years old. Then on Sunday we went to Jessup, Iowa to visit with our GDs there. Then got home early Monday morning. Fast trip but alot of fun. Now back at work and trying to get some yard work done. They got the new roof on the house and garage and just waiting to see if they can match the sidling or if we have to replace all of it. Sure has been hot and sounds like it will be awhile before that changes. I just do not like the heat.

Have a good night- Blessins, Vicki GI Nebraska

I swear I am going to have to put a cow bell around my husbands neck. We took a quick trip to Walmart today. I always power walk as much as I can when I shop especaily since I didn't got o the Y today:blushing: So I am always in front as we go down the aisles. My butt is big enough he should have no trouble seeing if I go down an aisle or turn a corner. But I don't know how often I would turn around and no hubbie. I would go down all the aisles around me and still no hubbie. But I gave me more steps!!!!:drinker:

:flowerforyou:  Amanda, best wishes for a non-eventful surgery and a speedy recovery……what a shame that your siblings are so self-involved

:flowerforyou: M, glad to see you back on the path after the celebration detour

:flowerforyou:  Robin, I’m thinking good thoughts for you on the job future.

:flowerforyou: DeeDee, I was glad that I devoted quiet time to filling out the passport application so when I took it to the post office to mail it today, I felt secure that it was done correctly. Right now they predict that it will take four to six weeks for standard renewal processing.

:flowerforyou: Heather, I know how difficult it is to try to strike up a new friendship and I don’t feel at all good at it. Congratulations on what you did with the woman at yoga

:flowerforyou: Jane, we were screaming and cheering for the Black Hawks last night.

:flowerforyou: Debbie, I think my hubby wants to buy a BlackHawk hat…..enjoy your tshirts.

:flowerforyou: Jodios, keep doing what you’re doing and there will be no worries about gaining back what you lost

:flowerforyou: Sandy, I read your ice cream story and it reminded me how long it took me to finally realize that some foods would never be OK for me again and now I don’t miss them.

:flowerforyou: Marie in OK…..if you get in the habit of reading this thread every day you’ll feel like part of the family and feel our support of your journey. I reached my goal weight several years ago and come here for support because the world “out there” doesn’t understand why I have to be constantly vigilant.

:flowerforyou: Sue in SD, wishing you an uncomplicated surgery and a speedy recovery.

:flowerforyou: Jackie (mynyddisamrs), I am so happy to hear from you again……I’ve missed you.

:flowerforyou: Helen, welcome…..you’ve come to the right place…..I look forward to getting to know you better.

:flowerforyou: Crittersue, good news about your gall bladder…….but not so good news that you still don’t know what’s wrong….we think taking two dogs to the vet is a challenge---wow, four dogs at once.

 Vicki, congrats on your weight loss.

:flowerforyou: Debbie in Brazil, we’re glad you’ve joined us….keep coming back for lots of encouragement

:flowerforyou: Today was my line dance group’s performance at the assisted living home. We had an enthusiastic audience including a 90 year old woman who told me that she walks two miles every day. Among the pieces of music we danced to were:
Sister Kate by the Ditty Bops
    Mercury Blues by Alan Jackson
Elvira by the Oak Ridge Boys
Me and God by Josh Turner
    Tequila by the Champs

    I bought new walking shoes today to replace the ones I bought last summer that are now worn out at the heels and not waterproof anymore (falling apart and leaking like crazy)

    Hello, everyone!

Just popping in to read a few pages and say hello. I'm feeling a little blah and out of sorts so will be off to bed early. Just wanted to wish Amanda & Sue good look with your surgeries and recoveries. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Heather - doing a happy dance for you not gaining. Would you share the recipe for the brownies? Sounds like they are awesome.

Amanda - I have a hard time understanding people like your siblings. Now you remember to be kind to YOU

M - boy, sounds like you are/have been doing a lot of traveling. It's so much fun, isn't it?

Went to the Y this morning, just swam some. But this time I used my water shoes. I had forgotten how much resistance they add. Then I went to pick up the dress. I gave her the blueberry muffins that I made for her. At least that's out of the house. The lady was almost apologizing to me for charging me $25. I gave her a check for $30 then a $10 tip. She was saying that she had to take the dress apart to fix it. She couldn't get over how they did the alterations! I think it looks quite good now. I do need a bra that is cut lower, tho. Stopped at one store and found 2 bras, each $4, that don't have the underwire. I can't stand that, it hurts my breastbone. Then just stopped in one food store to get some carrots. Came home and Vince told me that when he called to order the riverrock, evidentally they are having some sort of problem with their sorter, they need to get a part. He said it may be as long as a month until they get it. Well, looks like we're getting a break from riverrocking. DeeDee - it IS starting to look really nice, at least I think so. Last night at mahjongg one lady said "oh, the mice will love it (evidentally they love rocks)." When I told her I hated mice, she said "oh, don't worry, the snakes will eat them". Wonderful!!!! I am hoping that she was pulling my leg.

They said that they had another type of rock but it wasn't as rounded as the riverrock, but they suggested we take a look. So we went to the landscape place. But the rocks they had were too sharp so we'll wait until they get the riverrock in. We are going to have a pool party social for the Newcomers sometime in August and I do hope that we're able to get the rock down so Vince can powerwash

Marie - so glad you came here. Come in often. Wow - that's some walking you do!

Debbie - pop in more often. Happy birthday!

Hey Joyce - I got to the Y today and as I was getting things out of mty bag, I realized that I'd forgotten to put a bra and underwear in it (I wore my swimsuit under my shorts). If I hadn't been going to get the dress, I would have just come home braless. As it was, I was going to get the dress and I couldn't very well try it on without a bra, so back home I came.

Cyndi - so glad you had such a great vacation. Good for you getting rid of those 4 pounds! How right you are about how hard it is to keep up good habits while on vacation. I think the best we can hope for is moderation.

Sue in SD - I'll be thinking of you tomorrow. All the best.

Jane - you don't need to tell me how frustrating it can be when you need a procedure but insurance gets in the way. BTDT

Jackie - sounds like your trip to Spain will be wonderful

Helen - so glad you came in. Come back often

Vicki - great weight loss, even with all your travels

LizMFP - Hello! Pop in often.

Debbie - welcome! You've come to a great place for encouragement. Come in often

grandmallie - woohoo on those steps!

tigress - why are your arms sore, what did you do?

There was a volunteer appreciation barbecue for the Green Room. Well, I had one spoonful of baked beans, I passed on the hot dog and chips and coleslaw, 1/2 spoonful of what I think was chili (to me it looked somewhat greasy). Unfortunately, had too many desserts. Almost all of them were store bought. Had 2 bites of brownie, 3/4 of a mini red velvet cupcake, 2 bites of a chocolate chip cookie, 2 bites of an oatmeal/raisin cookie, and an oatmeal cookie. Now my stomach feels "yukky". It just never ceases to amaze me how when you're used to good (healthy) food and don't have it, your body really does say "I don't think so". Next time, I'll try skipping the desserts (or have just the brownie) and have more baked beans. Before I left I did have some soy nuts so that helped keep me full

ohiomomof2 - hope you feel better fast

Amanda: I’m sorry you have to have surgery. I hope your siblings step up and spend time with your dad, but I think you are wise to get it done as soon as you can with or without their help. If you can’t count on them, it is too bad for your dad and for them. Unfortunately, it adds to your worries. Wishing you good luck. :flowerforyou:

Robin: I’m keeping my fingers crossed that your interview leads to something wonderful.:flowerforyou:

Marie in OK: Welcome to a great group. We have a few maintainers along with a bunch of losers like me. My DH and I are on this journey together and it is so good to be sharing a healthy focus. We're both feeling better than we have in several years.

I'm on my way home. Yesterday I drove from Colorado to Ogden, Utah. The light was hitting my eyes in a way that makes them hurt. It was the longest and least pleasant day of the whole trip. Best moment of the day was in a rest area in southwestern WY. I pulled in and got out of the car to find an Antelope grazing about ten feet away. He looked me over and walked away. I saw him again when I came out of the rest room. I've never seen a wild Antelope that close before.

Today I made it to the little town in Eastern Oregon where my SIL lives. DH has had a good visit and seems to be rested and feeling great. I'm happy for that. He's suggested that I spend an extra day here to rest, but is also concerned that i may be contagious. I've got an irritated sinus and hope it isn't infected. My in-laws to not need to be exposed to anything. I think I could drive home tomorrow and rest up after I get there. We'll see how it goes.

Sue and Amanda-wishing you both a speedy recovery from your surgeries!!

CritterSue- Today must be the day for animals in the road! My DH and I saw two turkeys in the middle of a big street this afternoon and they held up a lot of traffic taking their time getting to the other side! They did make it safely though.

Got a lot accomplished today except never made it to the gym. For sure going to Water Zumba tomorrow, since I never made that Monday either. However, we made some positive progress with our re-fi and I'm doing good with my coursework to gain admission into the college. First assignment 20/20! Needed that boost for my confidence level! My DH may finally get the MRI for his back. The Spine Ctr did more x-rays which turned out fine and they agreed that he needed the MRI to get to the bottom of things. When I explained that insurance already denied it, they seemed pretty confident that they would be able to push it through. Both of us actually liked, and were impressed with the physician assistant!

Off to finish the last few pages of my book and then to bed perchance to dream.

Hi all, I just joined the forum tonight... I have to admit that I'm not quite 50, but will be in 6 weeks... so does that qualify me? If not, I'll go elsewhere...

I'm having issues with getting toned up and losing weight, with this menopause thing...and it's so frustrating...! But I've also not been at this for real long... I had started a boot camp at the school where I teach, and had to quit due to my husband and his lack of support (long story) and needing to get to my daughter's house (43 miles away) to babysit the grandson. So after a week of not doing anything, I start back with my workout regimine this morning.... I no longer have anyone to workout with, and my husband when he gets up and I'm still working out has to make fun of me... Really good for keeping a person motivated...NOT!!!!

I look forward to getting to know you all!

  • Test post to see if I can join this thread--here's hoping! yay! Thank you, barbiecat!

Hi! I'm new to MFP. I'm 56, and "retired" from the practice of law due to my fibromyalgia and arthritis. Over the years I've been changing my diet as much to try to regain my health as to lose weight. So far I've just gotten fatter and older.

But that's all about to change--right?! Keeping journals, counting calories, and checking in with the scales are not who I am, but if that's what it takes, then here we go!

I'm also expecting my positivity to cause the fat to fly off into the galaxy and be sucked into a black hole, never to be seen again.

In the meantime, I'm still looking for my yoga dvd. Alternatively, I may totter out into the road for 10 minutes (that's 5 minutes out and 5 back, right?)

Looking for friends in this community! Please feel free to add me.

Now I need to have some sweet dreams! No calorie sweet.

    Until tomorrow,

    Welcome MusicTeacher4 and lulu4thewin(Louise)!

I've been up about an hour or so....Oh, the joys of menopause and hot flashes, LOL! We have some friends that are suppose to be passing through town today as they move from MO to New Mexico. Unfortunately, they've had some car problems along the way, so if they make it at all, it will be a short visit. I spent 3.5 hours at the beauty college yesterday getting my hair done. I've been going there a few years now and they do a pretty good job. I use to go to a salon, but, it became cost prohibitive. Unfortunately, I have to go back on Friday because my grey did not get covered on the sides/roots. They should have stuffed it and they did not. I decided to make a color change, and I don't like it very much. I will have them add more blonde in it also. I was afraid it was TOO blonde previously(almost white), but, everyone seemed to like it. We are making a trip to CA in August, and family pics will be taken so I decided now may be a time to give it a change. I still have another appointment before we leave to sort it all out.

We'll do a bit of grocery shopping today. Aldi has some good fruit prices this week. If you have an Aldi in your area it is worth checking out! Does anyone else keep hardboiled eggs on hand for a quick snack? We find it really helps if we are needing a little something before getting a meal prepared. We rarely eat out. The calories are just too high.

    Good morning!

Just checking in while i have my morning coffee. I hope it's a good day for everyone; we've had some storms here and expect more throughout the day.

I've been in kind of a funk about exercise lately. I walk with a friend for 30 minutes each morning at work - that's about 1.5 miles - but I really need to do something in the evenings as well. Haven't been able to walk then, mostly due to weather issues. I have some exercise videos but am bored with them. Soooooo, I finally did something I've been thinking about for awhile..... I ordered a set of Zumba Fitness videos last weekend and they should be here any day. I've never tried Zumba but have friends who love it so am hoping I will, too. Just need something new and hoping this fits the bill.

Guess I'd better go get ready for the day. I'm sending prayers for those who need them!

Louise-I think that is hysterical! Wouldn't that be wonderful for everyone, lol!

Still hot as the devil here. I'm being good and trotting off to work out before it gets too horrible. The gym does have A/C, but after ten minutes it doesn't feel it!

Hoping it's a good day for all!

Carolyn (Louise) Welcome! I like the idea about fat flying off into the galaxy and being sucked into a black hole:laugh: . Think I`ll have to borrow that vision too! Come in often and chat with us!

Time to get myself busy now. I hurt my back somehow yesterday….I decided that I needed a new pair of pant:happy: (I really don`t need anymore clothes:noway: ) , while I was walking around the store my lower back on the left side started hurting, the more I walked the more it hurt:huh: . It`s feeling a bit better this morning. I found out it actually feels better sitting up than it does laying down, it took me forever to get comfortable last night:sad:  . Hopefully when I really start moving around today it will be better!

Have a great day ladies! Drink your water:drinker: :drinker: :drinker: and log your food!!!

"I'm also expecting my positivity to cause the fat to fly off into the galaxy and be sucked into a black hole, never to be seen again."

At first I read only those first three words, causing a doubletake! Welcome!

Welcome to all the newbies, hugs for those struggling and prayers as needed...

So I've been in a funk, which I know is only a mental block and lack of acceptance. Over the past 1 1/2 years, despite losing 40% of body weight and doing a good job with diet and exercise, the doc now wants me to go on Lipitor. I can see the labs gradually creeping up in total cholesterol, but have made great improvement in the triglycerides (185 down to 97), a 2 point improvement in HDL and a 10 point reduction in LDL. In my mind I know I've done everything I can, but emotionally it feels like a failure. I have a strong aversion to taking prescription medications, feeling they are generally over prescribed. I know they have their place, but it is such a hurdle for me. Still dwelling on it. A couple of my friends have had such issues with statins.

Tonight is our dinner with someone I worked with years ago. Should be fun -- and since I'll likely be on a new med, I'll just eat whatever I want!!

Good morning! Thank you for the lovely welcome :) I'm planning to check in each day to keep my motivation up. It's nice to see so many women here all working hard to improve their health. It's going to take a while to get to know who's who!

Critter Sue - thank you for your welcome email.

Sandy in Ohio - I have the Zumba DVDs. You've reminded me to pull them out again.

Barbie - I was looking for a line dance class last week. It looks like a fun way to add some extra activity. I used to do Jazzercise, about 10 years ago, and miss the "dancey" type of workout.

My little guy just left for his last morning of elementary school and it feels very strange. We live next door to his school and I'm so used to seeing him playing outside there (our yard runs alongside the field at the back of his school).

One question - how do I find the daily thread? I searched for it but had to go through a few links before I got to this page.
