    Hello Ladies! I am so happy to have found you.

    I have been on a diet literally since 6th grade

    A year ago April My mom died, and I had reached a lifetime high on the scale while helping care for her. I have since lost about 30 lbs. I joined mfp awhile ago, I really don't remember when. I have not lost any significant weight since starting though. It goes up and down, up and down again. My goal is to lose about 30 more lbs. I just can't seem to stay motivated long enough to do it.

    I run, and have actually ran 4 marathons, 4 halfs, and countless other races. I also ride my bicycle alot, but I find I just eat more to make up for the exercise! I also occasionally go to the gym, and I do yoga once or twice a week.

    You are all so motivating and awesome. I have not read the whole thread, but skipped around and I am amazed and impressed with all of you. I look forward to joining you in this journey.

    I love life, and I am happy, so I think that is half the battle!

    Got a silly question to ask. How did this thread originally start? It sounds like it was from Barbie but how long ago?

    I have my appointment tomorrow with the diabetic specialist to see what I am doing wrong. The diabetes seems to be doing OK but I'm not losing the weight. I don't want to be known as the best looking 200 pound woman ever. I'm starting to think about buying my size 14 jeans and I weigh 200 pounds! 30 pounds and 4 sizes. I mainly have questions about eating back my calories burned. I know that many times my net calories are less than 1200. Is that my problem????? My blood sugars have been less than 100 for the last 5 weeks.

    My husband was supposed to be having his colonoscopy tomorrow but it had to be postponed for 6 months due to his heart attack in March. So I reminded him tonight as he was enjoying he pork chop that it was supposed to be clear liquids and laxatives for him today.

    Michelle thanks for the encouragement. I was in So. California visiting my parents and stepchildren. Got to go deep fishing and had a lot of fun. Back to exercising and making better food choices hopefully will have the pounds off soon.

    :flowerforyou: Mariah went home today!! They removed the drainage tube from her brain yesterday, and planned to send her home if all went well. I guess it must have, yay! She's still not out of the woods, but it's great news nonetheless. Thanks Phoo, and everyone for your concern.

    Company coming tomorrow, one of my nieces and her boyfriend. We'll have fun picking berries, swimming and playing cards, unless they decide to bail on us old folks and go downtown to party with their young friends after having dinner here. :huh:

    Either way, looking forward to it, and the house is clean for a change :bigsmile:

    jb…Good news that Mariah is home! Hope you have a nice visit with your niece. I remember cleaning our home with my oldest son when he was about 8 years old and him telling me “Mom, you know, we are just lying to the relatives…our house is never this clean!” :smile:

    Thanks for the welcome its great to be able to talk to fellow dieters as most of my friends dont need to and my daughter is super fit:ohwell:

    Phoo tha 5:2 is where you eat normally for 5 days a week and consume 500 calories on the other 2, fasting for as long as possible between 2 meals. I have been doing it for about a monh but not lost much. I joined this site to keep check of my non fast days and sure enough I am consuming far too much on those days. I suppose 'normal' for me is more calories than other people! I do feel better for it and will carry on, shopping tomorrow will consist of low cal stuff and I will be making my lunch instead of going to the canteen.

    You wonder why us Brits talk about the weather, well it was lovely yesterday and today its raining. We are promised temperatures in the 20s at the weekend so TGIF. Hopefully out at the weekend to our favourite pub in the countryside. Thats another reason I am not loosing as quickly as I should Wine!

    Hooray, hooray! :bigsmile: Lost another pound! Phew! That one took me two weeks and two days, but I'm there at last.:smile: Not bad going with the socializing. :laugh: (Wine! )

    Pat - I had to google it, but broad beans are Fava Beans. We have a healthy crop in our veg patch. Delicious! I haven't tried wild rice, but I certainly will give it a go. The shrimp paste is an Asian condiment that I buy in small pots. Our supermarkets stock it, but I buy all my. 'weird' ingredients on line. A delivery is just like Christmas. People call me 'Amazon Queen' , something comes almost every day, though this stuff comes from a Chinese supermarket. The paste is super salty, so I have some low salt soy sauce to balance it. Last night's pork was fabulous! I use a cheap little Ken Hom stir fry book and adapt it for less salt and oil.

    Now I am off to make myself beautiful for our trip to the rose garden. It is drizzling here, but we are promised SUN for this afternoon.:noway: :bigsmile:

    morning ladies,
    I am ticked.. have been walking and doing alot of exercise and haven't lost an ounce:grumble: what the heck?of course all those steps and walking.now have my heel hurting,so wont go to the gym today..but will get over there in the a.m.
    does anyone have any diet busting smoothie recipes?I am looking for some good ones for my magic bullet.I do have some flax seeds ,and will get some slivered almonds ,should i get some protein powder?I do have PB2..

    Just a PS. - I am within one lb of losing my overweight status :drinker: and getting to healthy BMI. I know it's not good to go much lower over 60, but I think I will drop 3 more pounds after that to get me to a nice round 10 1/2 stone. That will be 147. I don't have any problems with my bone density so that should be safe enough for me. (It was checked regularly when I was on cancer meds ) To think when I was young I used to think I was really FAT at that weight. I used to think 124 was my goal weight until my thirties.:noway:
    Still raining here. At least it's good for the garden! :laugh:

    VACATION STARTS IN 7 HOURS…WOOHOOO :drinker: not that I’m excited about it. I am staying home and getting some much needed work down around the house. :tongue:

    I’m on Day 3 of my migraine. I can’t seem to shake this one. Tomorrow morning is weigh in and I’m a bit nervous about it. Coming off a really good 5lb loss last week I’m not expecting too much. I have to fight through the pain to keep the scale moving down. I had a small heart attack last year and it put a scare into me, I have been overweight all my adult life. Time to get my life in control. I’m taking my car into get some body work done so I will be without a car for most of my week off…I hate being without my car.

    Cyndi in Hockley (Texas) – I’m sure you will love Calgary. Though from what I’ve seen on the news they have a massive cleanup going on because of recent flooding. Their Mayor still says the Stampede will proceed as plan. I’ve never been, you will have to tell me all about it. You will find that us Canadians are awesome :wink:

    Kate in Brooklyn – welcome. What an appropriate poem, thank you for sharing.

    Michele – I’m really hoping & praying that things go well at the wedding. That Bryan & Diana come to their senses and realize how important family is. I have only my kids & 1 neice and her family. My kids never had any extended family. I know they missed out on that. I raised them alone, no help. If not sooner, maybe when they start a family they will come to their senses. I can’t imagine how this must break your heart. Stay strong

    Kathryn2759 – I’m so sorry for your loss of your Mom. I really wanted to be a runner but with the arthritis in both my knees I’m not sure that’s realistic anymore. Where are you from?

    Joyce – good luck at the diabetic specialist today. I’ve never been really clear on eating back my workout calories either…sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t.

    Katla – glad you are home safe & sound

    Jreneecal – deep sea fishing? Wow that sounds amazing.

    Mggriso – welcome. Who doesn’t love a good glass of wine :drinker: :drinker: it is definitely a pitfall for losing weight but if you work it into your calorie limit for the day there is no reason not to have some.

    Heather – YAY another pound. Good for you!!!!! Awesome, time to celebrate with something non-food when you lose your overweight status

    Grandmallie - do you take measurements? Maybe you lost some inches? I try and keep that in mind when the scale doesn’t budge

    Good morning & TGIF!

    Thankfully, this week flew by and it’s Friday already! I don’t know why I’m all excited about the weekend. Let’s see…..there’s cleaning and laundry…yippee! What fun! :grumble:

    I just had to vent the other day, but I got it out of my system and I feel stronger today. Let me clarify about the “leaking”. Although since I’ve upped my water intake and I do make frequent bathroom trips, I never have had a problem with leaking, even when exercising. It’s only since I’ve started running outside that I’ve experienced this problem. Our neighborhood is very hilly, so I’m guessing that the extra stress from running up and down hills is jarring the bladder. Still, I am loving my morning runs. The TM was getting to be so boring, but I guess it’ll have to remain a backup in bad weather and when winter comes, it’ll be back to full time duty.

    Something didn’t agree with me last night and I had stomach cramps that kept me up for most of the night. We had pork for dinner and I thought maybe it was undercooked, but DH ate way more than me and didn’t have any problems. When the alarm went off this morning, I hit the snooze and decided not to go for my run, but I realized that it was just an excuse. Sure, I’m tired, but it wasn’t going to kill me, so I forced myself out of bed and got it in. Boy, did I feel good when I completed my run! I know I CAN do this!:happy:

    :heart: Jb – Thanks for keeping us posted on Mariah’s progress and praying for a successful spinal tap next week. Just read that she went home!! Great news!!! Does she still have to have the spinal tap?

    :ohwell: Pat – I went to all kinds of doctors for gastro issues and none of them ever found anything. Oh wait, after I had an endoscopy, they found a small ulcer, but after that was cleared up, I still had problems. I tried eliminating dairy, went gluten-free for awhile, etc. Nothing really helped. When I joined MFP, things got worse for a bit, but then seemed to settle down. Certain foods still trigger flair-ups, but they are few and far between (although I did have a flair-up last night). Stress is a BIG factor, but lately things have been better in work and I have been better, so keeping your stress level down is a good place to start.

    :wink: Cyndi – I never took measurements when I joined MFP either, and I do regret that. I also never took “before” and “after” photos, but fitting in clothing that hasn’t fit in years lets me know that I’ve lost those all-important inches as well as the pounds.

    :smile: Suzy – I had a complete hysterectomy in 2004 and don’t go to the OBGYN anymore. There’s no need for it since there’s nothing there! I will, however, mention it to my doctor at my next visit.

    :laugh: Heather – Thanks for the info on pelvic exercises. I plan to Google them this weekend and give them a try. Ah….I remember when I was in my 20’s that 118 pounds was my “fat weight”. Now I am thrilled to weigh 122!

    :wink: Jan – Don’t you just love when you have extra calories left over at the end of the day? Doesn’t happen much to me, but when it does, it’s so much fun to plan that extra treat!

    :heart: Barbie – Thanks for the great advice. I can’t thank you enough for being so supportive. The support I get here keeps me motivated. I AM a work in progress, and I am NOT giving up!

    :smile: Michele – I just love reading about all of your adventures. You sure are a busy lady. That yard work seems like it’s never ending, but I’m sure the result will be worth it! And look at all the extra benefits you’re getting (burning all those calories)! I am going up to visit with my kids for the long 4th of July weekend and bringing my engagement/wedding ring from my ex to give to my son for his fiancé. He had already given her a ring, but this ring is just sitting in my safe and it means so much to him because it came from his father.

    :wink: Rita – I don’t know what time your day starts, but I have found the mornings work best for me to get in my exercise. I don’t have to be in work until 9am, but I get up at 5:45 to get started by 6am. It’s usually cool enough at that time of day, and even though I groan when that alarm goes off, I always feel energized when I’m done.

    :tongue: LuLu – I am with you about the sugar. The funny thing is that I don’t put anything at all in my tea (and I drink a lot of tea), but oh, those sweet and salty treats…chocolate…ice cream….chips…..you get the idea. I have definitely added more fruit to my diet, but like an addict, I still get the cravings for the good (bad?) stuff!

    :glasses: Joy – Welcome back girl! Glad you enjoyed your cruise. Vacations are meant to enjoy. Now that you’re back, those pounds you gained will just drop off! You’ll see…most of it is water weight.

    :flowerforyou: Liz – Hope you are feeling better soon.

    :sad: Yanniejannie – I got perms for years and loved it because it was so easy to maintain, but my hair has gotten thinner over the years, and then I started coloring on top of it and the double chemical process was just too much. My hair was getting damaged, and something had to go. It was either grey and curly or brown and straight…..I went for the brown and straight, but I sure miss my curly hair!

    :laugh: Joyce & Alison – ROLFL!!! You two are a hoot!

    :flowerforyou: Sue in SD – So happy your surgery was a success! Take care of yourself and remember to follow doctor’s orders and be easy on yourself.

    :heart: Sandy – Do you take anything for those migraines? I can’t imagine trying to get anything at all done with one. I am sending healing thoughts for a pain-free future.

    Congrats to all on their success, and (((hugs))) to all who are struggling. Hang in…..it gets better!

    GOALS FOR JUNE:
    Increase weights for circuit training to 5 pounds each (Done)
    Consistent logging (90%)
    Drink at least 9 glasses of water a day (85%)
    Find an exercise class I enjoy – NOT YET!

    Happy Friday, Ladies- I hope you all have great weekends and that you do something wonderfully fun for yourselves.

    Oh,My- I just reread my last post, and I realized half way through that I sounded like an idiot. I really do usually manage to put complete sentences together w/ words that have all of their assigned letters in their assigned spots, but yesterday I just couldn't seem to do it! I will try to do better today and to use words that are actually in the English language! I suppose that I could fall back on the excuse that the "heat is getting to me", how does that sound?

    I am feeling better, and now it is time to restart the exercise and get back to being motivated about this weight loss. It really is easy for me (for us?) to slip back into becoming couch potatoes over any little excuse. I was too sick to exercise, and now I just "don't wanna" -:sick: :frown: :embarassed: Of course, that is the attitude that got me into this mess in the first place, right?
    For today- I will get myself back to the pool! :smile:

    My son wants me to visit in MN soon. I feel guilty because I don't want to go :grumble: I have become very spoiled down here. I like having the rec center so close, I like all of the concerts and fun things that I can be part of, I like not having to deal w/ mosquitoes the same of small eagles, I am spoiled! I will go, but probably not until Sept, I will have to figure out how to get my exercise in, but I am sure I can figure it out.

    Barbie- Could you send Jake to visit my carpet?

When I got out of the car it took a few steps away but didn’t run away. I was surprised that it seemed to be alone. I’ve always seen them at a distance in herds. I have been told that anyone who is losing weight is automatically on a high fat diet—because you’re burning your own stored fat as fuel. That does make sense to me.     Pat: Since I started typing my responses on a word document and then pasting them to MFP I haven’t lost a post. I just open the word document, make my comments as I read, and then copy/paste it into MFP when I’ve finished reading everything, and add smilies.:happy:

    Kathryn: Welcome. I have a suggestion. Enter your food and portion size into the diary each time you eat to get a baseline. Then start measuring portions. You’ll gradually see your patterns, and will be able to use portion control to lower your calorie intake. Good luck.:flowerforyou:

    I’m HOME! Yay. I love that travel always helps me appreciate the comforts of home. Colorado was beautiful and not too hot while I was there. I loved spending time with DD and DGD, but I’m looking forward to some rest now.:laugh: Since I just returned from a trip where I had less control over food than usual, and had a loss after being stalled at home for what felt like forever, I feel like maybe I’m actually learning some new good habits. :bigsmile: :bigsmile: :bigsmile:

    Well Good Morning, Hope you are having a good Friday morning. It is hot here again today, could sure use some rain and lastnight they started selling firworks. So our neighbors thought they should shot some off around 11pm. I wouldn't mind so much but I had to get up at 4:30 this moring for work and will all weekend. I will sure be glad when the fourth is over. I do think they spend atleast $1000 every year as they shot them off every night for the week they are allowed here. Sounds like everyone is keeping busy.

    Gail- I tend to get to bed later then I want or plan. Seems that is when I get my second wind. Then I about cry when the alarm goes off at 4:30.

    Jrenne and Mggriso and Kathryn2759-Welcome and hope you come back often. I must say this is a great group and very supportive.

    Carolyn- Great weight loss.

    Joy- Welcome back and sound like the cruise was fun. I have heard they have alot of food. Someday I want to go on an cruise thru Alaska.

    Liz- Hope things get better soon. I understand about the doctor. Mine left in April and so they set me up with another one in the clinic. Went and met him and liked him, well his last day is today. So now they have me seeing another one. First thing I plan to ask is if he plans to leave soon or even looking somewhere else. I don't have to go often (Thank God) but I like having one I know when I need to.

    SueSD- glad your surgery went well and they got everything fixed at the same time. Don't try to do to much to soon.

    Sandy- Hope you feel better soon and can enjoy your vacation.

    Michele- The gift of rings is sure special and I pray Brain and Dianna realize that. and know how hard you are trying. Keeping you all in my prayers.

    Joyce- Hope your appointment with the diabetic doctor goes well. Great Blood surgars. When I furst found out I was diabetic my doctor sent me to a class at the hopsital to help me understand how to eat. I learned alot. How did DH colonoscopy go? With my family history I have to have one every five years. Don't like them, but seen my mom and grandparents suffer with colan cancer. So not that bad.

    Katla- Glad you made it home safe. Sounds like you had a good trip.

    jb- Great new about Mariah going home. Keeping all of you in our prayers.

    Heather- Congrates on the weight loss.

    Pat- guess I didn't notice anything about your post. Guess what they say about the mind being able to read just parts of letters and know what you mean. What I really enjoy about this group is that we can say when things are going well and when we are having a bad day we can vent.

    Well I work all weekend so will not get much else done. My DH and I belong to a Christensen Motorcycle group,. Some how this year I have been elected secerarty. So we do alot of riding. We have a trike and that is what I love to ride. But it is in the shop and sounds like acouple weeks before it will be running again. So in the meantime if I want to ride I have to ride the 2 wheel one. Been over 10 years since I have riden that one, but did the other night and it wasn't so bad. So tonight we are going with our group to a town (Ravenna) about 30 miles away for supper. Sure hope it cools off some by then. Not alot else going on here. I am looking forward to July and new goals. I have not done well with this month. But not giving up. Hope you all have a great day.

    Good morning, everyone – taking a few minutes to respond to some of you. As Lucy mentioned, our weather has been cra-cra. My mulch is drifting now from floating, then going back down. We must have gotten a few inches in about a ½ hour yesterday and were on a tornado watch until 10:30pm. It’s supposed to rain all week. My plants are loving it – a little too much – my Rose of Sharons (usually a shrub) are growing up over my house. :flowerforyou: I’m getting a ton of blueberries now – made a pie for the kiddos the other night and have frozen a couple of gallons. We still have a lot left though – for which the birds are thankful. I just wish they would eat the bugs too!

    Lucy, I know exactly what you mean – both about the leaking and the maintaining. I had a lot of problems with it before my hysterectomy – but the doc stapled everything back in place then. It’s starting to be a problem but nothing like it was before thank goodness! It seems harder for me when there are so many treats – I actually woke up thinking I might start making a menu for the day so I can stop snacking on bad stuff. Fortunately I have a lot of grapes right now that I’m enjoying.

    Katie, I miss camellias – we had them when I lived in Oregon, but I remember they grew like crazy! They can make a mess too – enjoy your results!

    JB, yum on the boysenberries! I miss them and blackberries more than just about anything in Oregon. To me, nothing tastes like summer like sun-warmed berries. I missed what happened to your grand-niece, but I surely hope she continues to improve. Dance, my friend!

    Joyce, congratulations on the loss of inches and blood sugar! :drinker: That’s really terrific. Good luck getting the AC fixed – I would be freaked out if that happened to me, but I’m sure it’s coming. Congrats on the great buy on bras – and I’m laughing at your exercise image.

    Juanita, I like to get my exercising out of the way early in the morning especially in the humid summers. I also like to pretend all that sweat is fat pouring out of my body lol :laugh:. Your furbabies are adorable.

    Robin, in CO cracked windshields are such a common occurrence the insurance companies just put a rider on your policy and charge something like $25 or $50 to replace them. They plan for at least a new one every 18 mos. Still, scary and a pain. Good luck on the training!

    Suzy, stress is such an evil thing – causes so much havoc and really messes with weight loss. I’m sorry to hear about the lay-offs. Sometimes it’s hard on the people who survive too – but I feel bad for the people who lost their jobs.

    Heather, your trip to the city sounds wonderful, as does the recital. I love wandering in gardens – I do it here in my yard sometimes just to get away from the computer for a few minutes. Glad to hear about your DH.

    Vicki, I don’t get along with heat and humidity much either – slows me way down. It sounds like you enjoyed your ride – so nice to be out on the open road, yes?

    Michele, laughing also at your knowing where every bathroom in every store is. My DH is like that – but I worry about him and told him on the next Dr. appt he needs to have his prostate checked. His father suffers from prostate cancer and it runs in the family. In the meantime, he’s like traveling with a toddler.

    Gail, no need to apologize. It’s still a great accomplishment. DH is on statins – but I keep his diet healthy anyway, and his cholesterol is in the good range now.

    Rita, I haven’t heard of the hacker diet *goes to google.* Yogayogayoga – so good for back strains.

    Sue in TX, ugh. I never want poison ivy again – it was horrible. Are you on steroids? I don’t blame you for not wanting to be itchy. Watch out for the sun – medicines sometimes mess with your ability to be exposed to sun.

    Carolyn, congrats – that’s a great loss in a week!

    Joy, I don’t blame you for waiting to weigh in – let that post-vacation glow last a little longer :laugh:.

    Diabetic clinic called and changed my appointment time which will alter the time I go to the Y. In fact it will mess up my whole day:ohwell: When I was first given my diagnosis I was set up with classes. it was supposed to be group classes and there were three of us, a lady my age and a younger man. I don't think he was liking the things he was told because he didn't come after that first one. Since I am on Medicare they said I am allowed to have 3 private sessions with the specialist so this meeting today I think is to determine really what I need.

    My husbands colonoscopy had to be postponed. He had to be off one of his medicines he was put on after his heart attack and the cardiologist said no. So it can be rescheduled next January. It took him so long to be convinced to do this. His Mom had 3 polyps on her last one, one brother had 5 and the other brother had 14 so it is very important that he have it.
