Why not, I always talk about m-theory?

Great, now when I don't know what to say the only alternate I'll be able to come up with is theoretical physics I barely understand. That's really gonna help my whole 'awkward at parties' schtick.

Inside my head, a little bit, but I would never offer someone unsolicited advice.

Oh sure. If I waited for people to ask for my opinion, I'd never get to share it.

someone above said fructose is fructose is fructose. I dont know all the scientific data about it, however, i do beleive fructose from watermelon has got to be different than fructose from can sugar.

I don't tell people what they can and can't have, but if someone is on a diet, constantly complaining they're, not losing weight, having digs at me for doing it and then they eat a huge cupcake or takeaway i have to bite my tongue. Don't claim you're doing your best when you're not. At the end of the day it's their choice, i just don't want to hear them complaining. Also hate when my colleagues eat loads of biscuits and cakes, then call themselves plump or fat expecting me to say "no you're not". i refuse too.

I honestly don't give a damn what others eat or choose to eat.

At the end of the day, my only concerns are:

    MY choices.

    MY mouth.

    MY health.

    ^^^^I love this!

Nope. I have a couple of select friend outside of this board who know about my efforts, but for the most part, even my own choices aren't something I "preach" about. I'm doing what I'm doing for myself. I do talk about it here because this is the arena for it.

I have no right to tell anyone else what to do. I might ask for a Cheeto or two, though, so I don't have to buy my own bag. lol

    ^^LOL, yep to both!

    To OP:

I think it's reasonable to be super excited and immersed into your weight loss program at first. You feel good about making the changes and you want others to do the same, as well. I'd be a damned liar if I didn't say that it's one of my favorite topics, BUT it's one that's been fading, as well. I'm learning that people like to screw themselves over (me included) AND that they have differing views on how weight loss and healthy eating should work/look like. You'll get tired of wasting your breath on people who are not interested in hearing your thoughts on their diet and nutrition choices.

If people ask, I'm more than willing to discuss and advise. I would never tell someone not to eat cheetos though...that's just blasphemy. Note that you can get your nutrition on and get your fitness on and be a rockin' individual and still eat some cheetos from time to time.

For the record I don't disagree with you, but seriously, is there an organized clandestine group on this message board with a determined mission to start a "you can eat whatever you want debate" in every thread?

Again - I don't disagree....not trying to start a **** storm...just getting annoyed at the same conversation in every thread.

    Yes....

...our mission is to combat the dieting majority who think you have to suck on celery sticks and substitute everything delicious with cauliflower to be healthy and fit.

its funny because you guys are so preachy about it on here.

She asked...I didn't think she should be preachy about the cheetos...having cheetos as a snack doesn't make one unhealthy. What if her co-worker otherwise hit her nutritional goals and just wanted her cheetos? Never said she should be eating "all of the cheetos" either. You all or nothing types are something else.

    good luck to you though...

The other day, my boss and I were in the break room and she was leaving. I was telling her about my diet and she was grabbing a bag of Cheetos from the vending machine. I almost told her that she shouldn't eat them, that she should go home and eat something healthier (bc she was on a diet the last time I checked). Our company also has a health/fitness-focused organization that I'm part of, so I try to encourage people to walk in or outside of the building during their breaks (They can easily walk 2 miles a day, just on their regular breaks - or 4 miles if you include their lunch break!!!)

So, do you find yourself giving advice and preaching to people about their eating/exercise habits?

I've had quite a few people approach me and ask what I've done for the weight loss and I always tell them the name of the plan I did, the name of the book that has the plan and then also that you can get it at the library (where I got it from). From this I know of at least three people who actually pursued it and are now also losing weight :) But otherwise, no I don't talk about it. I also lost most of my weight while doing a form of IF and did it with the typical SAD and also no exercise. I lost the weight, didn't feel deprived with my food choices and I had really great blood work results towards the end of my weight loss phase as well. While I eat differently now that I'm in maintenance, I had no ill effects eating things like Cheetos while losing weight :drinker:

    I would fire you.

People don't like unsolicited advice especially about personal things like weight and food.

I would focus more on your work and less on what other people are doing with their bodies.
  • OP I can't believe that you were about to tell your boss that she shouldn't be eating a certain food. *face palm*. I don't feel the need to discuss calories or anyone's diet. I don't talk about what I eat or the calories per day because I don't feel like getting unsolicited advice. I know a lot of people may not like what I eat on a daily basis but honestly who cares? My diet is my diet and their diet is theirs, end of story. I can easily work a bag of cheetos into my daily calories and not give it a 2nd thought because all that matters when it comes to losing weight is a calorie deficit.

No. I don't always eat healthy & certainly wouldn't want someone saying something about my food.
  • I try not to be. When it comes to fitness I completely get that other people have their different ways of doing things. What bugs me is when people become preachy and start shoving their 'research' (which consists of reading an article) down other people's throats.

I know such a person, and believe me, it gets annoying. Their way of keeping fit isn't superior to mine. Yet any time I mention working out they're always on hand, telling me what I should and shouldn't be doing. Note, this person started fitness way after I did, and whilst I'm not saying I know more than them, but they speak to me like I know absolutely nothing. This person who has never been overweight in their life even tried to tell me the best way to lose weight!

In fitness, there seems to be no one right answer. Everybody responds differently. I think people should just focus on their own lifestyle and only dispense advice if, and when, they are asked. Remember that giving advice and preaching are two different things.
