Landed in Austin, Texas to visit my daughter and we went straight to Whole Foods for salmon burgers and a bottle of wine! Best lunch in months! We have front row tickets to the UT v. UCLA game and Sunday will be the Pecan Street Festival.............but wait for the best part! She is taking me to a cafe for brunch on Sunday that has different flavored mimosas! Hey guys, mimosas aren't made with just OJ anymore!!!! I hope to figure the alcohol into my daily calories, isn't that how it works, you can drink as long as you don't go over???0

I wish I would have seen this in August!!! That was one of my goals...to go an entire month and not drink wine!!! I did well in August (only drank twice) and did very well this month (drank twice)!!
But this is a good forum!!0 -
yes, HerbieSue, drink as much as you want;) it's hard to drink and not go over on calories, but it can be done. I went two night (Wed and Thurs) without drinking. I plan to drink tonight at Oktoberfest, though.0

So ... I am now 23 days in the books without alcohol (except the smidges that have been noted before). I plan on going to Oktoberfest with my mom on Sunday and I am not going to drink then either. I plan on going 1 more time with friends and will likely have a beer that night BUT that's going to be in October. I think that I feel MUCH better not drinking and I have more energy in the mornings and at work etc.
Keep in mind that I would drink VODKA every single night0 -
Karen you have done so well staying off the alcohol. I know what you mean about feeling better in the mornings if you don't drink. I love my Friday night chill out, celebrate the end of another week drink but I can guarantee I will know that I drank the night before when I wake up with a heavy head on Saturday morning. For me though I enjoy my treat too much to give it up completely at the moment. Some times I don't drink for weeks at a time, right now I enjoy my bottle of wine (not all at once) at the weekend.0

Yvonne ... for me it's a slippery slope. While I am not considered an "alcoholic" I do love to drink and I have a high tolerance ... once I get started I just keep going. I have been known to finish bottles of wine in a few hours ... or a 1/2 a bottle of vodka in a sitting. This does nothing for my weight loss efforts and, in fact, likely contributed.
When I get to my goal weight I will introduce wine again ... I LOVE Merlots ... I have a wonderful bottle of Merlot just sitting there staring at me LOL (In fact I have a few shots of mango vodka in the freezer too). I just have to have some self control. Proving this to me is further proving I don't "need" to drink I "choose" to drink. I have a saying ... "I use drugs, they don't use me" (and alcohol is a drug).
Have fun this weekend!0 -
hi all
in st paul with my daughter. limited wifi so I will just say I had the worse flight known to mankind. I was in a middle seat between the two largest males on the flight and baby cried the whole 3 hours and it was extremely turbulent. oh boy. I needed the bottle of white i enjoyed tonight. I am hoping to hook up with Kim whlite I am up here but we will see if the lush gods approve.0 -
Hi everyone, you all seem to be doing great things. Today was weigh in day and I have lost 3lbs this week and 1.5ins off my waist and 1ins off my hips (in three weeks that's a total of 3.5ins from waist and 2.5ins hips); am I feeling good? YESSSSSSS!!!
Am looking forward to my gin and tonic tonight. I got through most of this week without a drink but had a bad day on Wednesday, so did have a gin that evening. But, onward and upward. am hoping to keep to just having a small drink with dinner on Saturdays and Sundays and stay off the booze during the week. If the weight and inches loss continue then it will be well worth the sacrifice.
Sorry you had such a lousy flight, RJ but have a great time with your daughter.      :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:
Keep smiling everyone.  :bigsmile:0 -

Well, tonight is my first sober night in a long time; so, here it goes:
Sunday, 0 drinks
Plan is to remain sober until Thursday when I will have some birthday wine. I am off all weekend; so, I must try to have some restraint. Any suggestions from my fellow lushes? Advice? Shackles?0 -
Hi all. It's Monday morning and a new week. Managed to keep to just one drink at dinner on Saturday and Sunday. My sister in law is staying with me this week so plan drinking diet tonic when she is having a gin and tonic and then joining her in a small glass of red wine with dinner; should be able to do this within my calorie allowance.
Keep up the good work lushes.  :laugh:0 -
Oldbat you are doing better than me! I must have taken your 3 lbs:) j/k, I earned them. I went to Oktoberfest on Friday night, started with a vodka soda and then I had two 20 oz. Coors lights, then we went to Whiskey bar and I had a bud light, then Fado's and I couldn't even finish my beer or drive home. I ended up eating taco bell that night, and I felt pretty bad on Saturday and got breakfast at McDonald's before I had to sell raffle tickets in a petstore to benefit an animal shelter where I volunteer. Then Saturday night I watched two movies, both terrible, and drink 3 beers while doing that. Sunday went back to Oktoberfest for weiner dog races and costume contest-so cute! and I had a bloody mary and a Sam Adams. I was over my calories after lunch, but my friend came over to watch Weeds and I think I had 3 more miller lites.
So my goal this week is to stick to my calories, alcohol or no...0 -
I survived Oktoberfest without champagne at brunch OR beer ... it was hard but I did it. I may be going back on October 16th in the evening with some friends ... we will see if I hit my mini goal coming up in the next couple of weeks. If I do then I MAY have a beer. Other then what I mentioned previously I haven't had any alcohol since September 1 ... this has to be some sorta record LOL0
-
Hey - not to worry. Every new day gives you the opportunity for a fresh start; you'll get there.
Karen - you're doing fantastically. Keep it up.

Sunday, 0 drinks
Monday, 0 drinks...it's safe to say that I will remain lush free at this point
Oldbat and Karen, you are the pillar of strength when lushness creeps it's ugly head...keep up the good work0 -
Hey guys I am jumping in here, I really appreciate all of your honesty!! I have struggled on and off with alcohol. I like to drink, but my body doesn't like it. Since quitting drinking and getting pregnant and now nursing, I dropped a lot of weight not drinking. As my son is getting older though I can feel myself wanting to slip back to having a drink nightly, but I don't want the negative effects. I just wish sometimes I had an ounce of self-control! Ugh! The self-control/discipline comes into play with over-eating and not exercising as well. How have you guys worked on being disciplined and or having the self-control?? Some days I just want to throw my hands up in the air and say screw it all! LOL but I am really really trying to relearn healthier habits, for myself and my two sons.0

last night I drank but it was within my calorie-goals for the day, because I ran for 30 minutes first. Still, that is 4 days in a row for me and I am looking forward to some clean living for a couple of days so my head doesn't hurt in the morning! There is a Sober October challenge but I think my own goal will be to drink less often and no more than 3 drinks per sitting and within cals. That will be challenge enough!
cjemtegaard, I am not sure I have self-control, or at least it exists in limited amounts, so I can't eat well, exercise and stick to a budget, clean the house, etc. pick two-it's really the best I can do!0 -
Ok I know I am not part of this forum but I will say...I have weigh in on Friday and if I've done well i am drinking an entire BOTTLE of my favorite wine to celebrate!!!!!
That's all! You may continue!!!0 -

Hey, don't beat yourself up too much; deal with things one day at a time. As I have posted earlier on this blog, my husband of 34 years died last year and there are days when I just want to shut the world out and not 'cope'. I didn't have a particular drink challenge but I was conscious that it would be very easy to disappear into a bottle when I was having a bad day and that could lead to a downward spiral of wanting to climb into a bottle more and more frequently. So, before I started my diet at the beginning of September I had already made a point of never having more than two drinks a night if I was on my own. When I started my diet I wanted to kick start my weight loss, so I decided to cut out alcohol for the first 14 days. SInce then I have tried to restrict my alcohol to one drink with dinner on Saturday and Sunday and no alcohol for the rest of the week. I am certainly seeing results in terms of weight and inch loss; I am currently on a net calorie intake of 1400 per day and am trying to take some exercise on 5 out of 7 days, even if it is only a 30 minute walk. This week my exercise (and alcohol intake) are not so well controlled as my sister-in-law is visiting, so my routine is a little different. However, I have still managed my pilates class tonight and am still only having one drink with dinner - when she has a gin and tonic, I just have a diet tonic and then I allow myself a small galss of red wine with dinner. So far that has been within my calorie count. Tomorrow we are off to London to spend the night with my son and his partner, so I suspect a little more drink will be taken!!! However, I am just going to enjoy myself and relax; if necessary I'll do some more exercising next week to compensate.
I think there are times when you just have to kick back and relax. Allow yourself a treat of an occasional drink as a reward for perhaps missing out on a drink for one, two or more nights. Just set mini goals and reward yourself for achieving them but don't set the bar so high that you almost force yourself to fail. If you do miss your goal, don't worry - you can start again with a new goal with the new day. Go for baby steps and you will suddenly find that you're ready to stride out.
DBanks - good for you; I think that is a very good reason for for downing a whole BOTTLE - Cheers :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:
Kim - glad to have been of help, we're all here for one another which is why this blog is sooooo good. Knowing you are all out there keeps me going.
Good luck everyone; tomorrow is Wednesday and we are half way through another week of keeping the lushness under our control instead of it controlling us!!!      :bigsmile:0 -
Hello,
I am happy to have found this thread, I dont drink everyday or even want to most of the time, my problem is when I do drink its quite a bit and almost every night that I am not at work. I do have a stressful job (dispatching over night for a Police department) and have alot of person stressors that I can hide when I do drink (money, relationship, and weight woes) I dont want to give it up completely but need to find a way to cope with my issues other than trying to drink them away and numb myself. Its comforting to know there are other people with this issue willing to talk about it.0 -
thank you oldbat61 for all the kind words of encouragement and the advice. i really appreciate it and i will try to take it all into consideration. i am also very sorry to hear of your husband's passing i can only imagine how i would "cope" or the lack thereof. enjoy your sister-in-law and your son and his partner. that sounds like a fun time.
dindivt, i do the same and would like the learn new coping skills as well.0 -
