    Take care Vicky stay strong.

Well had another splendid day of healthy eating. Went and spent a few hours at the cottage. The weather is just beautiful the same kind of weather as we had 43 years ago. Our wedding anniversary today. Went out for breakfast but I was hungry for homemade stew. So I made a homemade moose stew. Very good and also very healthy.

Just to long to answer all the posts but I did read them all.

See you all tomorrow Lighter I hope.

Hiya ladies! Hope you all had a nice day; it was lovely here…in the 80s but no humidity and a nice breeze. Did some grocery shopping, returned the carpet samples, and was exhausted so I came home and napped! I never seem to finish my to-do list!

Renny: sorry you have not been feeling well. It is amazing how sleep helps! Hope your mom is feeling better now. What kind of “spells” does she have?

    Joyce: great walking!

Katla: interesting about the crock pot I know people who don’t add water (similar to you) and then I have some friends who insist on adding a fair amount of water right at the beginning. No matter which way I do it, the meat is always tough! Great job on the weight loss!

Grandmallie: I hope your computer gets well soon!!!

Tina: yes tomorrow is another day which is always a good thing!

Sylvia: we love our lap dogs don’t we?

Dr.KatieBug : I am always amazed at those who work out for hours on end. Some days I don’t get a shower! Good news on the weight loss though…any amount is a good amount!

Tgal: enjoy that time with the grandbaby!

Rita: sounds like you are one busy lady! Yes I have seen a dietician…three times so far. I get to visit with her every three months and at all the classes. I have the most wonderful enhanced benefits….all my care is free, no co-pay for supplies or meds, free lab work…etc etc etc. All I have to do is stick to my contract which right now is the third class in December and taking my blood sugar twice a day. And it’s part of the contract to have the visits and lab work every three months. I am supposed to be around 45 carbs for meals and 15 for snacks. It’s just hard because I’m trying to eat low fat and used to eat tons of fruit. So now less fruit and eggs and cheese….high fat! I’ll figure it out I hope!

Yanniejannie: so sorry about your ankle. Maybe you should get an xray. I’m glad I don’t do anyone’s laundry (well I do mine) because that would just annoy the britches off me!

Heather: oh my I am so sorry to hear about the suicides of friends and all the trauma your friend has had in her life. Sending
    prayers.

Jane: hope the news from the doctor is good

Jenn: thanks for the info on the crockpots! I never considered meat tenderizer. I’ll give that a try.

Rita: busy days do seem to lead to things like fast food. Planning is so hard when you are running like crazy.

Sandy: what a wonderful message from your brother. I hope you can establish a nice relationship with him.

Pat: I saw on the news you had a huge windstorm today (habboob?). Hope you kept your head down

Sylvia: good for you making the best choices at Taco Bell. I have a weakness for them! I’m sorry to hear of the family trouble. So many families have issues like that. I sure hope you are feeling better by now; I’d be worried about all those symptoms. Take care of yourself. I’m so glad you called and will be getting checked out.

Linda; good to see you here again!

Jill: a nice massage! How wonderful

    Jenn: great choices!

Michele: subway has some great choices but some of their specials are not so healthy

Susan: I stay under 1800 which is a lot compared to most of the others around here. I usually am right at 1700. Go CARDS is right! I’ll be cheering for your team

DeeDee: hope your brother continues to mend.

Rita: take care of yourself and those blood sugars!

Vicki: oh my gosh! I am so sorry about your father! I will send tons of prayers and get well wishes that way. Take care of yourself. We are all here for you, Great Plains Medical Center is a good place, so he will have good care there. Drive safely,

Texasgal: OMG I nearly fell out of my chair. That is hilarious! Thank you for sharing.

Well I guess I need to be productive. I wanted to deep clean the linen closet today and haven’t gotten there yet. Hopefully after dinner! Take care everyone, Meg from Omaha

    Greetings.
I had a scare last Sunday. In my left eye it looked like was seeing smoke (some say cobwebs). Fortunately I did not ignore the symptoms and got to a retina specialist within a day. It was a retinal tear. If left untreated it could develop into retinal detachment. I hope this does not happen to you. I just want to get the word out there, so others are aware and know to treat it as a medical emergency. Call your eye doctor or go to the ER. Unfortunately this is age related . Other causes are you take a blow to the head or are in an accident.

My goal for this month is to eat a diet to help heal my eyes and put stress in its place. Health comes first stress comes last.

Vicki - you and your family are in my prayers, safe travels

Meg - hmmm a nap, I was day dreaming about a nap today

    Linda - happy anniversary

Pat - I hope you are feeling better

Oh boy and I tired today. My brother called last night, our first conversation in 20 years. It was strange to hear his voice again but good. He filled me in on what's been going on. My mother told him that she was going to leave a mess and that she did. She didn't divorce my stepfather even though they were separated for about 30 years, she had no will, she did not name an executor. She owes a lot of money. Even from the grave she drags me back into this horrible mess. I could end up owing money if we can't sell her house for enough to cover the debts. We all 3 have to sign to say my brother can be executor so that he can work with a lawyer. This all falls by the wayside if my alcoholic stepfather decides he wants everything...it's just such a mess. Needless to say I didn't sleep well. I guess it will be an early night for me.

Something was wrong with my computer and I couldn't get into MFP earlier and then I just couldn't get on the internet at all. I rebooted after supper and it seems it all works fine now.

Sylvia, so glad that you have talked to a health professional about your little incident. Let us all know how things go. I remember the time when I was finally below my husbands weight. I didn't even let him know that I weighed almost 233 pounds. I was planning on waiting to tell him when I reached 199 but it took so long that I told him when I finally weighed less than him. His method of cheering me on is more of why have you let yourself go when I need encouragement instead of criticism.

I went to this consignment shop yesterday and got this pair of Lee jeans. I don't think I have ever worn a more comfortable pair of pants. The denim material is so soft and I just love the fit. I wold imagine the person who took them to the consignment shop was sad to see them go.

I FINALLY got to talk to Renee at the Y today. She seems like a real sweetheart. She told me that with the particular problems that my MS that I should for now just ride my recumbent bike. If I do decide to do the recumbent eliptical not to do the arm part of it. She also encouraged me to join the beginners strength training class. Due to my sleep schedule she said the twice a week class would do to start out. It also starts at 11:15. I have been waking up a little earlier these days so it may work. She would have a workout schedule available for me next week but it's a busy week for me. We leave Tuesday to go to Christina's house, then drive to Cincinnati on Wednesday to spend part of the day with daughter's family and my brother who lives there and his grand kids. My brother is a chaplain in a hospice and with me being an RN we were always the caregivers to our loved ones. All the family members due to their jobs, personalities and where they live just had their own things to do with our parents. he keeps up that role with his phone calls. He will call just at the time we need him most. he just seems to know it. or maybe God does!!! And he is a hoot to be with. You know you will be laughing most of the day when you are with him. For about the last 10 years I always get him a silly gift for Christmas just because that's who he is. One year I emptied my shredder into a gift box and wrapped it up real special!!!! Just stuff like that.

We had a good day today. I went to yoga for the third day in a row. I’m taking an extra class in case I have to miss one due to jury duty. We pulled out our tomato and cleaned up the garden, and had a generally productive day. I have to admit I'm just a bit sore. Yoga or yard work? I don't know. Tonight we’re treating ourselves to Papa Murphy’s Pizza. I haven’t had any in months. I’ve earned it. I don’t expect to go over, but I could be surprised.:ohwell:

Lin in N Ontario: Congratulations on your anniversary! We hit 43 in March. 1970 was a good year for beginnings.:flowerforyou:

Barbie: I plan to log forever, but I’m not quite at goal. I have a couple of pounds to go. I lost a lot of weight after DD was born and then went back to eating with the family. Big mistake. The family should have been eating with me. The way we've been managing our meals since finding MFP is working for DH and me. We’re both quite happy with it.

DeeDee: I’m so happy your brother is doing well. :flowerforyou:

    Heather: Your dinner sounds fabulous.

Sylvia: Congratulations on your lost pound and being lighter than your DH. I’m still worried about your medical care. I hope you have no further scares before your doctor returns.:flowerforyou:

Grandmallie: OMG, I have loved Bill Cosby’s work for ages. You are the lucky one! I didn’t know he had vision issues. Glaucoma is tough. I hope your trip ends up being uneventful—other than BC, of course.:flowerforyou:

Vicki157: I’m sorry your dad is in crisis. I hope you have a safe trip. You and your family are in my prayers.:flowerforyou:

Cooking a roast in your crock pot just add a canned of stewed tomatoes your roast will come out nice and tender.
    Tomatoes work as a tenderizer.

:flowerforyou: It didn’t get rainy until after the marathon dog walk this morning…..we walked a lot longer than I’d planned because a friend called while we were walking and I stayed in the big grassy area instead of attempting to go back to the streets and head for home while I was talking…..then when we finally headed home, we kept encountering people and dogs necessitating changing our route to avoid them and for awhile I thought we would have to keep changing directions endlessly. By the time I got home, I had over 18,000 steps.

 Today at line dance we started practicing the dances for the holiday program at the assisted living homes. It felt very strange dancing to Christmas and Hanukkah music in October.

:flowerforyou: Grandmallie, I love layovers at airports because I get a chance to walk…..years ago I bought a good backpack for my carry-on bag so it would be easy to walk in the airport.

:flowerforyou: Rita, move is a four letter word…….too much work, too much stress, and worth it all once you get to the new place.

:brokenheart: Vicki, thinking positive thoughts for you.

     Linda, Happy Anniversary

:flowerforyou:  I did my strength training this afternoon while Jake took a nap. He has had many phone calls and e mails for his birthday including several grandchildren who sang “Happy Birthday”

*change some of my strength training routine (minor changes)
*don’t take things personally (really have to work at this)
*practice dance for 20-30 minutes three days a week (not as much as I wanted)
    * say “No” to candy (the only opportunities were the mints in restaurants, but I did it)

Michele – I have an android phone. (RE: the metronome app)

Sylvia – please do get checked out for those symptoms.

Sandy, post 1 – what a terrific response from your brother! That is promising.

Sandy, post 2 RE: your mother’s debts – in the US, only the assets of the estate are liable for the obligations of the estate. i.e., even if the person passes with huge debt, if their estate has no assets, the relatives are not liable. An exception to this would be if there were joint debts/obligations, such as your stepfather being a co-holder of a mortgage – in which case he would be responsible. Aggressive bill collectors frequently attempt to guilt surviving family into paying the debts of the deceased, and they cannot collect if there are no assets. You should provide them a copy of the death certificate, but you are not obligated to pay her debt.

Also, depending on law where you are, life insurance proceeds may not be considered part of the estate. Further, a life insurance contract is between the person and the life insurance company, and cannot be altered once the person dies. When DH’s 2 sisters passed (within 3 weeks of each other) neither one had a will and their affairs were in disarray. DH had to go to court in the local jurisdictions to become appointed executor, then you have to file various things with the court, post notices in the local press, etc. With respect to their life insurance, each had named a beneficiary other than their brother and none of those funds were considered part of the estate, nor could he protest and claim them through the courts. An estate attorney will be able to assist you. It is worth the expense to navigate the minefield! Pension funds may also have special rules. It can be a drawn out affair.

DeeDee – I missed the info about your brother, just seeing your post-op report. Hope he continues to improve.

Barbie – I have one peony in my yard and miss it most every year as it is tucked into the only proper location, but it isn’t a place we walk by. It is a beautiful pink and was a gift from a friend.

YannieJannie – how fun to say hello to a celebrity! I always appreciated Bill Cosby’s work and making the mundane so funny. Good for you on the steps, too.

Vicki – sorry to see your post about your dad.

    Linda – happy anniversary!

Margaretturk – my DH had a detached retina repaired, a macular hole repaired and then cataract surgery all on the same eye in a period of 3 months. His retina detached from a strong sneeze when he was out of town (and driving!).

Came home at lunch time to let the dog out, so had leftovers from last night for dinner. Tonight we had mahi mahi, jasmine rice and Italian green beans. Very tasty!

Well, I think that’s it for today. Hope everyone sleeps well tonight!

    Gail, metro ATL

GEORGIA GALS – there is a get-together at my place on Saturday, 10/26/13. We’ll start with a meet and greet from 9:30a-12:30p to get to know each other better, along with a light lunch (probably soup), then, for those who wish, we’ll head off to Gibbs Gardens ($20 admission) for the afternoon. (It takes about 3 hours.) Message me if you want to come and I’ll provide more specific info -- I'm in Canton, GA, exit 14 (Holly Springs exit) off I-575, for location reference.

Susan - it's good to rest between sets, just don't rest for too long. I remember this guy at the Y, he would do one set and then watch the TV for at least 3 minutes! They had this "contest" where you got "points" for how long you were in the gym, so he'd be there for a long time, only watching their TV. In the end, I won for the ladies. He was SO competitive, they told me that he would constantly look at the log to see how far ahead I was. Not that I could have cared. The recommended amount of time to rest between sets is about 30 seconds, but, of course, you have to go by how you feel. If you need more time (45 seconds or even a minute), got for it. I shoot for 1200 calories/day when I'm on plan. The thing about me is that never fails, if I have food later in the night, I can be assured of a gain the next day. I don't add in my exercise calories, but if I go over I know that I have them as a "buffer".

DeeDee - weren't you at one time calorie cycling, one day low one day high? That's not working? I thought it was. Thank you for the kind compliment. Have fun at grandparent's day!

barbie - I try not to pile on the pounds by giving most things away and just having a little bit for myself. I cut the fudge this morning and will give it to Jessica, I'm thinking about who I can give the pumpkin bread to. The lady who cut down the sleeves on my dress and made the hat's birthday was Wednesday. I'm going to call her today to be sure she'll be at the Y Friday. I have a pic on my phone of me in the outfit I think she'd like to see and I'll give her one loaf (I made 4). Lynette will probably ask me to make her something this month, so I'll give her two of them, and just leave one more in the freezer for if I need it. Happy birthday to Jake!

Did 50 minutes of Jillian Michael's Shred It With Weights DVD today. I just didn't do the cool down between levels 1 and 2. Later this morning I am supposed to volunteer at the Green Room. Tomorrow is going to be the deep water class.

grandmalle - Bill Cosby! Boy, you never know who you'll run into! I'm a bit surprised that he doesn't have his own personal jet!

I just logged my food for today and got the shock of my life. I didn't think I was anywhere near that much over

kevrit - I'm the same way, I get panickey when I can't touch the bottom of the pool. But I know what it sems from. When I was very young, I was playing in the ocean and the tide pulled me out. I still have this horrible feeling of being so disoriented and not being able to touch the bottom.

Vicki - prayers for your dad and your whole family

texasgal - too cute. Thanks for the smile. Good thing I wasn't drinking anything when I saw that pic, or it'd be all over my monitor.

Linda in Northern Ontario - happy, happy anniversary

meg - I made these pork ribs in the crock pot. I questioned how moist they would be since there wasn't much liquid at all. They were so moist and juicy -- they were just falling off the bone

Jessica just called, said she'd be here early tomorrow. Kris wants to go out to eat and she really doesn't feel like driving in the rain (they're having bad weather by her). Exercised, volunteered at the Green Room, came home to wash and wax my car, then had to go back to the Green Room because we bought tickets to the show Sat. night, now Jessica is coming with us so I needed to exchange my tickets for 3 different ones. Never again will I take the tickets home with me, if I had left them there they could have just swapped them out. Oh well....live and learn.

margaretturk - wow! That must have been scary. So glad you got to the eye MD asap. I just got a reminder call from my eye md, only our insurance only pays for a routine visit every two years. Why they don't pay for one every year is beyond me.

Sandy - what a mess you were left! Well, bad as it is, there is a bright side, it brought you and your brother back together.

Joyce - one of the most comfortable pairs of shorts were ones that I got at the Salvation Army. I can get shorts there and some shirts, but I can't get pants. I also have gotten pajamas that I keep at the condo. Renee sounds like a real sweetie, so glad you found her.

Linda - thanks for the tip that tomatoes work as a tenderizer. I tend to avoid the meat tenderizers because they're usually so high in sodium. But tomatoes aren't that high. Thanks again.

    Hi all,
Today was upsetting for me. This morning, I went in to my father's room to see how he slept last night and he was kind of quiet in his response. Then he said he felt light headed, he was sitting in his wheelchair and then his eyes went googly, his head went bobble and he started to slump over. I saw this happening and I scooped under his arms from behind the wheelchair and held him up. I thought he was stroking. I called his caregiver to get his legs and we wheeled him next to the bed and picked him up and put him in bed, elevating his legs. He started to come to, ashen faced. I made him drink some OJ and gave him an aspirin. I think he was hypoglycemic because he didn't eat much last night and his Parkinsons meds are really dopers. He falls asleep right after he takes them. I had him stay in bed all morning and the cat snuggled next to him for hours, she's a sweet nursemaid. I think he loved that she was worried about him as he said she stayed with him all morning. He is fine now. No weakness, no slurs, no droops. He is alert and was saying how the episode was a mystery to him. We tend to think it was a fainting spell. He gets that way often, he is not on any other meds except the PD meds. Ate lunch we pureed some chicken noodle soup and the caregiver spoon fed him although he complained about that, but we didn't want him slurping too much not knowing if he was affected by the fainting episode. He said the soup was delicious and gave the left-overs to the cat. She liked it, too. His appetite was fine. Ate some ice cream with a banana, then got up and walked around the upstairs and was back to normal watching Jeopardy!? What gives? Next week I take him to the dermatologist because he has a brown mole-like thing on his leg and shoulder. I hope it's not anything bad. arhhh.
Tomorrow I go to exercise. Weights for me. I'm excited. Gonna get strong!

Meg- I am trying to stay 1200 kcal or under. I am eating "clean" now. I have found, for me, if I eat sugary stuff or too many carbs, I go over 1200, because I crave just a little this or that. Then I blow it. It's amazing how the little nibbles add up. Yep, it's about calorie deficit.

Gardengail-thank you for the information regarding estates and life-insurance. I really don't know much about that stuff and I tend to learn by experience. No one tells you how to manage legal affairs and if you mess up, it costs so much to hire an attorney!. Are you a lawyer?

Sylvia- hope you are feeling better.

Pat (Phoo)- I love the new word habboob. Wind storm? How could I use it in a sentence? Maybe, "The teenager swirled into the room like a habboob, knocking the lamp over." I have to use that word on my hubby, he'll get a kick out of it.
    G'nite, lassies.
    Susan

Hope all have a wonderful day!

Just a little intro...Well I'm new to this group and mfp. Reading through this thread has been delightful. I'm on my 2nd weekof mfp my short term goal is to loose 20 lbs before December so that I can have surgery on a paraesophageal hernia. My surgeon recommended this or to him the easier option to have bariatric surgery at the same time and he wouldn't require I lose 20 lbs ahead. Well pooh on that. I don't want to deal with the life time of issues from that surgery, I just want my stomach pulled out of my diaphragm! I'm down 6 so far and seem to be more committed than in the past to avoid this extra surgery.
I love fall and October, even here in Seattle area. The cold nights and warming days and the really good days where it's sunny and crisp. I always loved Halloween, but want to avoid it this year. I'm thinking my hubs and I could go to the movies.:-) then no extra candy . I have one daughter who is living and going to school in London. I work at a YMCA as a class instructor and personal trainer. Even fitness people have weight challenges for sure.
    Have a lovely day.
