"Please include a message with your friend request.."

Dude, who the heck accepts FB friend requests without knowing the person? Man, I'm pickier there than I am here.
Oh, and also ^THIS! Seriously, I have NEVER accepted an FB friend request from someone I didn't know.0 -
I'm not here to collect friends - I'm here to support others and to get support from others, and to in this process have actual postivie/meaningful relationships with those I'm supporting/supported by.
If I want to be someone's friend, I send them a message saying why (e.g. "I loved your helpful response to ____ in the ___ post! Would like to be your friend so we can provide positivity and support one another here in MFP"). If someone wants to be my friend, I'm generally pretty open to it, I just want to know why, and so I appreciate a short message along with the request.
I like having a small friends list because I feel like I can be supportive to everyone one my little list... and I appreciate the support I get from each of them :-)
This is what works for and feels comfortable to me :-)0 -
Freedom... it's awesome. You should try it sometime.0

It is why I always include a junk shot with FR... and expect nothing less in return
Well played brah0 -
It seems like this is something said because someone else said it on their profile. To be exclusive you must add this disclaimer to your profile. Miss me with that...
When did this become so important or the norm?
Just sounds like some MFPers are becoming friending snobs.
Some of them won't admit they are quick to accept a friend request on FB and 9x/10 there is no accompanying message.
Some people have gotten a little above themselves.
Or the other one that gets me is, "I'm not adding anymore new friends"
What the what?! It's not like there's a fire code for your friend's list...
Then another thing that gets me is that people go on to justify why they need a message LOL. As if the message makes the person no longer a stranger.
Insanity at its best....
That's team too much for me...
I am not being sarcastic.0 -
I accept 9/10 requests with no message on FB because they're people I know IRL. We're already friends or related. When I get a FR here it's from a stranger. I wouldn't just walk up to a stranger and ask them to be friends. I would introduce myself and break the ice a little. Especially important online when there's not a physical body in front of you. If that's not important to you, great. Not sure why you give a s**t if it's important to anyone else.:huh:0

Bacon AND ice cream is apparently now a thing. With caramel.
Oh holy mother of yes...0 -
I'm popular on the internet so I don't just associate with just anyone. YOU CAN"T SIT HERE!0

I don't accept random friend requests from people who aren't friends of mutual friends unless they have a really good reason for why they want to be my friend.
I don't accept blank friend requests from anyone. No matter who they are.
I like to keep my friend list manageable. Too many people and you can't be supportive/develop any kind of relationship with them.
I'm not here to just collect people and won't be collected by anyone else.
If I do accept someone on my list and then they don't interact with me I delete them.
I call them standards. You can call it whatever you like. It's my friend list so what's it to you how I manage it?
ETA: I'm really just a b!tch. That's what it boils down to.
All of this. She was recommended by a mutual. How this should work, really.0 -
I don't like to waste my time with people who don't even have the courtesy to introduce themselves.
So . . . no, you don't get to come to the party.0 -
I accept all FR but clean out my FL if they do not interact or log on. Nothing against them, just no point in having them on the list.0

Dude, who the heck accepts FB friend requests without knowing the person? Man, I'm pickier there than I am here.
I have 20 FB friends and I'm related to 15 of them.
Nothing more to be said about that.0 -

And welcome to the Internet. :flowerforyou:0 -
I could care less and accept any friend request sent to me
I am not a good mfp friend .. I dont leave "good burn" or "wow nice food man " or whatever on peoples stuff
I never even really look at the feed thing... people just add me..meh0 -

I don't have that disclaimer either, but typically do not accept without a message.
A ticket into my freak show, also called my MFP wall, requires some sort of admission and a message is always helpful. You know, so I can see if you will fit in with my freak show (meaning awesome and sexy) FL.
:smooched: :drinker:0 -
That's funny? When I've read those, I never took it as self important?
I took it as them politely apologizing in advance for why they might not have accepted certain FR's.
ETA: If I decide to write one of those statements it will be decidedly more rude. As it stands though I don't have to write one b/c my profile's set to private. Snobby enough for you OP? It could be worse.
Also if I deny an FR, I don't always even say why. That FR just lands in a dismal abyss of limbo like Mark Zuckerberg's eternal F5 button...
...oh! the humanity!0 -
What I want to know is why it concerns you so much. You don't have to send them a friend request, ya know? I have/had a disclaimer on my page after my friends list got out of control and decided that I wouldn't accept people who wouldn't do the same courtesy to me as I would to them. With profiles being private most of the time the only way to get to know who is adding you is a compatible personality. For all I know we could be two warring personalities which would result in stress and a delete anyway. Requesting for messages saves me time... and avoids unwanted perviness...
emphasis on the UNWANTED perviness.
Wanted perviness is still perfectly acceptable.0 -

You really should see a therapist.0 -
I have 400+ friends....about 20% are steadily active. I know all the names of my active friends and would like to know who is peeping at my diary and seeing my pics etc.
I think social media makes people lazy, it never hurt to introduce yourself ...u wouldn't walk into a meeting and not acknowledge people in the room or go to a work conference without a name tag, you'd seem rude, it's the same thing.
Since the new year I have 18 pending requests we no name, message etc.i jus think its odd not to say something.... But I'm a Public relations major, so maybe it's just me. I believe in real interaction and true support. i like when people say my name in a comment occasionally vs "wtg girl" all the time.
Snobs rule,lol!
Shannon... atl girl0 -
It's not snobby. And sending blank FR is creepy and getting them is rather insulting. There are a LOT of "collectors" on this site. If not a creep, then it shows they didn'y bother to read my profile. I don't have time to support everyone on MFP - nobody does, and for me this isn't a game of "see who has the biggest friends list". If someone is just blindly adding people without a real reason, that's how it comes across. I also delete people's a$$es if they don't bother to interact (after a certain grace period, of course). Support is a two-way street for me.
(I just deleted a second request from someone I deleted from my FL due to inactivity. A blank request...LMFAO!)0 -
I accept all FR but clean out my FL if they do not interact or log on. Nothing against them, just no point in having them on the list.
QFT
I add all my request, and then about once a month I clean up my list. It clearly states on my profile that I'm a needy friend and love accolades from strangers. If you don't give me a "great burn" or "nicely done", then you get deleted.0 -
So, who declined you to inspire this butthurt rant?0
