So my first day of picking myself out of the Susan Pity Party and look what my local bakery brought to our office. I will NOT eat one. I do not need these wasted calories!!!!! I just had some beef jerky a bit ago and just opened a Chobani Coconut Flip. I'm good, but this is the challenge I face on a daily basis. No joke.

Susan, all I can say is, "wow"! That's a big temptation. The picture says a lot! .good for you for sticking to your guns!
Mon Success: I've been on track for the last 2 weeks and am losing slowly. I'm weighing myself every day and must stop it as my weight fluctuates, and kind of freaks me out. I seem to have found my 'rhythm' for losing weight without feeling constantly deprived.
Another freezing, cold, blustery, snowy day, but after helping out my daughter with her babies, I went to the gym...I was surprised at the number of people there during the early afternoon. I guess no-one wanted to go outside today. Since when did Canadians become such wimps? lol! I used to love winter and -40 was manageable while I was skiing. I guess I'll have to take up skiing again. One of my daughters wants me to come with them as her 2 yr. old is taking lessons at a nearby ski hill. I started skiing when I was 2 years old as well, so I was very good at it, but I don't trust my knees anymore. ( a lot of bouncing up and down on them) Not sure that I want to ski anymore even if I could manage it.0 -
@Susan~That is quite a temptation, hooray for steering past them today. I’ve never really liked donuts or pastries so that wouldn’t temp me; however, if there a blueberry muffin – look out!
@Mel~I was put on skis at the age of four, so can relate. I was a pretty good skier, too - we spent every Sunday in the winter at the local ski resort when I was a kid. My sister still does – she put both of her boys on skies when they were four also, they are quite the snow bunnies now. I used to love the cold, grew up in NY so it was hard to avoid but I can’t take it now though.0 -
I've had a really good week with both food and workouts. But the scale didn't budge. Patience, right? :ohwell: I'm hoping Karen and I have bodies that function the same...3 week delay???
@Laurie...all these tragedies keep adding up and makes the world a scary place.
@Hayley...I think that's wonderful that you get a knowledgable workout buddy. Good luck with the detox...nothing I'm interested, but good for you (and remember, you've been warned about the bathroom. )
@Naomi...my sisters and mom are the benefits of moving. It has been great being by family for the first time in over 20 years.
@Mel...it seems weird not to have required sprinkler systems in a place where there are so many that depend on outside help to be able to get moved. Hopefully not too many other tragedies have to happen before it becomes something every place has to do.
@Karen...I am just at the edge of that storm. The roads were closed north and east of us, but we were okay here in town. No school missed and the temps are cold, but not the coldest we've seen. Although the wind is basicaly blowing right at me right now as it comes in through the patio door and the "covered" air conditioner. My toes and fingers are so cold that if I could type with mittens, I would. Glad you had fun in Milwaukee and then your niece's birthday party.
@Claudia...I'm in the same boat this week. Hang in there! I've actually got it a bit better than you. If my work closes or has a late start, I get to as well. I'm aligned with the Sioux Falls office.
@Jeanette...Congrats on the loss!!
@Susan...Cyrus had a curveball thrown at him while in Atlanta. I'm sure it caused some confusion for him. Now that you are home and back on your regular schedule, it'll help. I'm glad your trainer is so supportive and that you find this thread helpful. We're here for each other.

Monday Check-in: I'm back! A lot has happened since I've been gone. The first of the year I was up 9 lbs from my lowest weight:sad: . Just after Christmas I decided to go paleo, not necessarily for the weight loss but to be healthier and man do I feel better! Since going Paleo I've lost 19 lbs, putting me just 1.5 lbs away from being out of the 300's. Super exciting . I know 19lbs is a lot since January but I promise I've been keeping track of my calories and I was eating enough and when I was hungry I'd eat more. I got back on here because last week I started adding regular exercise back in and I wanted to be more in depth with keeping track of calories, macros, and exercise calories. Plus the support here is GREAT! I've started C25K and successfully completed week 1 and start week 2 today. I am mixing in some body weight exercises between C25K. I have never felt better.
I hope everyone is doing well!:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: I can't wait to catch up on here!
Have a great day and don't forget to drink your water! :drinker:

missmandamoni - HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I hope you enjoy your special day!
countrycowgirl - and
BJCamp - with so much at stake with both of your health - I want to just come out and state my belief - if either one of you decides to have, or has to have, a hysterectomy, PLEASE have your ovaries out at the same time, in other words, don't leave ANY part of the reproductive system behind. This is called a total hysterectomy or salpingo-oophrectomy. I had one done when I was twenty - five, and have lived with no regrets since. By them taking the tubes and ovaries out, I was allowed to live my life with absolutely NO RISK of ovarian cancer, which is such a silent, and deadly cancer. Please make your own decision, but replacement hormones are a better choice than leaving ovaries behind to lurk in the darkness just to supply you with "natural" estrogen.
Mel - what a tragedy about that nursing home fire. It broke my heart to read your account! Its a shame they don't have to have sprinkler systems. That son will never be the same. Poor man.
Naomi - HAPPY AUSTRAILIA DAY - and congrats on your bro-in-laws getting his dual citizenship and congrats on your family making a celebration so the young-uns know how important it is.
michelleborma - Hello!
Susan - so sorry to hear things have been rough. Some people never change. I was told this weekend to stop making an effort to be nice to people who aren't good for me. Is seeing his dad good for Cyrus? I think that's an interesting question to consider.
coffencr - welcome to this thread - glad you joined us! Keep coming back - you'll make plenty of friends.
AFM - We had such HIGH WINDS last night around 5:15 pm that, in my huge brick bldg. (I live on the second story) when I went to use the powder room, the water in the toilet bowl was sloshing back and forth! I couldn't believe it! So I went and looked in the other toilet - and yep, it was doing the same thing. When the winds died down I checked again - the water was still. OK - so my life is not very exciting !!!!!!! :laugh:0 -
@robin--our winds were at blizzard levels overnight here as well--it wasn't even snowing but visibility was still at zero b/c of blowing snow. Our house felt like it was going to blow over, and poor gunner woke up several times during the night barking at the strange noises made by the strong gusts. Your toilet bowl story made me laugh--and I thought it was captivating.
@helena--welcome back!! :flowerforyou: Glad to hear going paleo is pworking for you. How is your mom doing?
AFM--my school called off for tomorrow as well, but I had to go there today to pick up some journals I need to grade before Wed. :ohwell: At starbucks now--just finished the rec letter, and now I'm off to grocery story before heading home. DH is making corned beef and cabbage--yum!

Well down half a pound yah sort of LOL.. at least the scale is still going down. Glad I am taking measurements because I am seeing bigger drops there than on the scale.
Sorry had a busy weekend with being a hockey mom, will try to catch up on posts!
Happy Monday everyone!

Well, I just signed up for two new classes at the YMCA. The first Friday in Feb., I'm going to Swim 101, which is a very basic swim class, where the lifeguard meets you at the front desk, then takes you into the community room to talk about things like: How do you prevent the chlorine from ruining your hair/swimsuit and what are the best type of goggles to use? Really simple stuff that I never thought about asking, ya know?
The other class is the swim stroke clinic. We work one-on-one with a lifeguard to improve our front crawl strokes to burn maximum calories and get a good workout without wasted motion. It's for people who know how to swim, but want to do it better/more efficiently.
I'm sill going to water aerobics and on Thursday of this week, I have my first meeting with Kelsey in the weight room. I'm nervous and excited. I hate that there are mirrors all over the room. I know why they are there, but I feel like everyone is focused on ME! (How self-centered can I be, right?! haha)
I didn't do too great on my eating today. But had a low-cal supper, so I was over about 600 cals, which is a lot, but not as bad as this weekend was for me. I didn't filter myself at all this weekend and just ate everything set in front of me. On Sunday, I was over 1,100 calories OVER my goal. Wow! That was quite an eye-opener! I did learn something though. I learned that I have to log after everything I eat, no matter what, because when I wait till the end of the day, it's too late and I'm way over all my goals.
That being said, I am going to try really hard to lose 1 lb this week. My goal is 1.5, but since I'm off to a bad start...well, I'm realistic! haha!
For those interested in the detox water I'm drinking today and tomorrow, only use 1/2 a cucumber or the water will only taste of cucumber and not the fruit or mint. Other than that, it's really good!
Hope all is well with you. I've only got a few personals, so don't take it too hard if I don't mention you. I have to read and catch up, so I'll write more tomorrow...
@missmandamoni = Happy Birthday to YOU!!!! Enjoy the dirty 30! I sure am!!!! hehe
@Naomi = Happy Australia Day! I'm not sure what that involves...is it kinda like our Fourth of July? (A nationwide celebration?) Anyway, you didn't have to work, and it sounds like a lot of fun!!!!
@skinnyjeanz = it was on the news tonight that our hometown in Iowa was one of only two schools that didn't cancel in the entire viewing area! We had a high of -5, with windchills of 30 below. I felt so bad for my doggies, Brandy and Sophie. They went out to go potty and then when they came in, they just shivered and stared at me like, "Why would you do that to us?!"
loves!0 -
Hayley- I also have a love/hate relationship with the mirrors in the weight room. I truly don't like it especially having to look at myself in the mirror, however my trainer tells me to so I can see the proper form. Most people are using the mirrors to check their form and are not looking at you. Once you get into the zone, you will forget about everyone else in the room.
Karen- enjoy your day off. I am praying that my school opens on time tomorrow despite the wind chill. We have our last day of exams and the kids are suppose to get out 2 hours early. I am leaving work early and my DC is covering my 6th period class:bigsmile: . If we go in late then my plans for a massage will be screwed up and I will be writing very quick sub plans. :grumble:
Robin-I loved the story about the toilet water splashing around.
Major workout tonight even through the session with the trainer did not pan out tonight. She was running very late so I did not get charged. Luckily she sent me the whole workout earlier in the day. I had just about finished it by the time she was ready all that was left was 4 minutes on the AMT machine and a 10 minute run. Needless to say the workout did me in and my stomach was cramping. Luckily it has calm down and now I can eat dinner. The workout tonight lasted over 2 hours. I am not sure I want to repeat this anytime soon. The focus was on negative splits- start easy in 10 min intervals and move up the difficulty level so by the end of the workout I felt like I was at the end of a race. Winded and exhausted-good practice for a race.
I did not have time to talk with my trainer about the Monday night sessions. I did tell her that I would not cancel on her at the last minute unless it was an emergency (sick or other issue beyond my control) and that I would pay her for the session. It seemed to appease her so I think all is well.0 -
Hi everyone I am late getting on here today. I am feeling a little wonky this evening. I think I overdid it on our hike this afternoon but I am still glad I did it. I live in beautiful western washington on the kitsap penninsula so am surrounded by hills/mountains and water. WE took the kiddos down to one of the state parks and hiked down the wooded hills to the puget sound. The downhill was fine but coming back up was a little more then I thought it would be and has left me feeling a little weak and shaky but very proud of myself. We took our puppy Zeus who had a wonderful time with all the new smells and we were the only ones there so he even got to get off his leash:happy: I was happy to wake up to almost a pound loss so things are going in the right direction:bigsmile:
I was going to try and do some personals but am pretty tired so take care everyone and have a great night.:flowerforyou: :drinker:
Todays walk per HRM:
45 min
900 cals of which I claimed 500
2.05 miles
5641 steps
Forgot the HRM for the hike so went with the database for a 35 min hike cross country for 400 calories0 -
@ Tracy – I’m glad you have a place to rant. We all need a place to share that’s for sure. I can only imagine your frustration. I grew up in western PA about 30 miles south of Lake Erie. One county next door would be shut down, but not us. It made no sense at all. There’s no reason putting anyone’s life in jeopardy that’s for sure. Thanks for your support!! It was an emotional roller coaster going back to Atlanta that’s for sure.
@ Hayley – I look forward to getting to know you. I’ve been with the thread for about 1 ½ years and they are truly a great group of friends. Nice job signing up for the Y classes. Years ago I was actually a lifeguard and WSI (water safety instructor). I love the pool!! After my lifeguard duties and the place was locked up, I would turn off the lights and turn on the underwater pool lights. I would jam up the radio as loud as possible and swim for a solid hour. I love gliding through the water. It’s such a great all-over body exercise. Good for you for learning more. Like any exercise, form is key!!
@ Nettie – I know you’ve been waiting for that darn scale to move. Good job!! I’m really, really contemplating putting the scale away permanently. I want to stay off it for one month and see what happens. I need to really focus on clean eating every day, exercise and drinking more water. I’m working myself up and have been for too long with the daily weight fluctuations. I may have a major anxiety attack without weighing in daily, but I can’t let it make me go bonkers either.
@ Kelley – I had to chuckle about your coffee maker. I have one too, but only pull it out when my parents come to visit. While I love the smell, I hate the taste. I guess that’s a good thing because I think I would be addicted.
@L2T – Thanks!!! I really did miss you guys. I would have totally just given up before, but I knew I had to get back to this group. I’ve learned so much from each of you and have so much more to learn.
@ Karen – Another day of no school I see. Woo Hoo!! LOL!! Hopefully, you were able to get some papers graded today and with tomorrow perhaps get a little ahead of the curve. I’m getting really excited for T2T and cannot wait to spend time with you guys. It’s a great goal for me as well. I want to run with you guys and keep up!!!
@ Helena – I’m eating Paleo too, but haven’t been quite 100%. I do feel better though as well. Any tips or what are some ways you get in protein? It was very hard for me to except eating full fat. My trainer is on me all the time. I’ve never used more coconut oil in my life, but enjoy cooking with it now. I’ve got a super easy Chicken and Artichokes in Garlic Sauce, which is super simple and yummy (plus 40 grams protein per serving). You’re doing great!!
@ BJ – I saw your post and you’ve been in my thoughts and prayers. With your family history, I can only imagine how scary all of this must be for you. I don’t have experience with any of those female issues (and very, very thankful) so I don’t have much to offer, but I know you’re doing your research and folks on here have provided some great insight too. You know we are here for you!!!
@ Robin – You’re hit the nail on the head. When Cyrus’ father gave up his rights four years ago and didn’t show up for court, I never really looked back. I’m the one who makes the effort because Cyrus asks about his Dad. I try to do it for him, but after the incident, we had a conversation. I’ve never spoken negative about his Dad, but did share with him what sole custody means and why he will not spend the night with them. It was a tough conversation, but we had to have it. Again, I will be forever grateful to you for starting this thread and these amazing people who support each other.
@ Donna – We’ll take any loss we can get. Scale hasn’t budged for me, but I’m getting compliments from people so I think I am losing a few inches here and there plus toning a bit. As long as I’m losing it somewhere even if it’s my big toe, I’ll take it!!! LOL!!
@ Laurie – I saw your post the other day about your trainer. While she may have another job, she says she can’t find time to contact people. Give me a break! Plus, to switch your session that is a regular ongoing session just because it’s a co-workers friend? Unacceptable. She needs to remember you’re paying very good money and you ARE the customer. I think I’ve gotten completely spoiled with my trainer. She texts me all the time and checks in. When I was in my funk, she would still text - “Hang in there”, “Thinking of you”, “Take baby steps and come back”. She really has been worth every penny.
@ Jtconst – I’ve always wanted to visit Washington. I hear it’s just beautiful. I would love to live by water, but probably the warmth of the Gulf of Florida. My parents live in Sarasota, FL, and about 6 miles from Siesta Key. It’s my favorite beach!! I love it there. In Las Vegas, we’ve got Red Rock Canyon for some amazing hiking plus Mount Charleston. We’ve got mountains and hills, but no water. Glad you guys had a good time.0 -
@susan--yes, another day off of school tomorrow! I didn't get any grading done today, but I did go to school and get some other work done. I also picked up the journals I need to grade for Wed. I finished the letter of recommendation I needed to write for my student teacher as well, so tomorrow will be devoted to finishing up the grading and re-figuring my lesson plans to account for these 2 emergency days. I am also looking forward to T2T!
@tammy--your hike sounds wonderful! Like susan, I've always wanted to visit your part of the country, but haven't gotten there yet.
@laurie--I hope your plans work out for tomorrow! There's nothing worse than trying to write last-minute sub plans. :grumble:
@hayley--yeah, gunner is also unhappy with the extreme cold. It was beautifully (and deceptively) sunny today, so he kept looking out the window and excitedly running to the door only to find it was NOT very nice outside. He also doesn't like to wear his coat in the yard, so he kept running to his bed every time we tried to put it on him. Then he would realize he still needed to go out, and would run back to the door, only to be confronted with the coat again. It was a vicious cycle. Your classes sound great--I really like the water, but I have a strange fear of putting my face in and out of the water to breathe properly for the crawl. I have no problem fully submerging to swim underwater, but the whole face in and out of the water freaks me out. Weird huh? Sounds like I could use that class you are taking.
@donna--I would much rather lose inches than pounds--I always say, everyone can see when you are getting smaller, but very few people will pick you up to see if you are any lighter.
AFM--well I never made it to the gym today. I drove over to the school to pick up the journals I need to grade and got sidetracked cleaning up all of the books my students turned in over the past couple of weeks. I had to check them all in and then return them to the book room. Then I decided to pull the next set of novels, so I don't have to worry about it during the school day. I suppose I did get in some lifting with lugging all of the books back and forth.
Grading goals:
1. x/16 AP analysis activities
2. post participation grades
3. x/51 JRP journals
Exercise goals:
Mon--gym (lift + HIIT) NOT DONE
Tues--gym (cardio)
Wed--walk gunner
Thurs--walk gunner + (lift + HIIT)
Fri--rest day
Sat--walk gunner + gym (cardio)
Sun--walk gunner + (lift + HIIT)

Monday check in. Welcome back, Susan. Sorry you've had rough time.
I read all of your comments and feel that I am learning from all of you daily. When it comes to personals, I just have trouble remembering and figuring out how to get it done.
I walked today in spite of the dreary skies. They are promising that we will see the sun before the end of the week.
Here's to a better day tomorrow. Onward and downward. Kaye0 -
@skinnyjeans - I sure hope you're right about the 3 week thing. Up to now, I've been steadily losing each and every week so this change has thrown me for a loop. Thanks for the support.
Tuesday Goal Update: My current goal is to get to 199 by the end of February. I set that goal based on my average weight loss for the last couple months less about 5 pounds just to be sure of reaching the goal. It seemed reasonable on Jan 1st., but now I've been at 207.8 for the last 10 days. No idea as to why, but clearly the rules have changed without me getting the memo. I still hope I can get there. I need to get there so I have clothes to take on vacation at the beginning of March. I refuse to buy new things just for a quick vacation that will then (hopefully) be too big for the summer when I have things I am oh so close to wearing.
We're expecting snow here today. Only 2-3 inches, but since I'm in the South, we'll all scramble to get milk and bread just in case. It won't last long since our weekend temps will be in the 50s, but I'm looking forward to watching it fall while I sit in front of the fire with the dog in my lap.0 -
Happy Tuesday all! I was gone 2 days longer than I planned, but I am back.
Thank you all for the kind birthday wishes! Dinner on Saturday was a lot of fun, but I had too much to drink and was pretty miserable most of Sunday. I rallied for dinner with my family on Sunday evening, and fortunately I had yesterday off, so I got to sleep in and catch up on all the lost weekend time. Rehearsal last night was a little frustrating, but I woke up today determined to turn this week around - it's my first week as a 30 year old, and it should be awesome, not sulky. lol
Will probably weigh-in tomorrow morning, hopefully this weekend's celebrations won't wreak too much havoc on the numbers. We'll see.
Hope everyone's been well. More later! xoxo0 -
No new goal this week. I have 2 more weeks of my routine to get through before it changes again. I ended up taking yesterday as my rest day. I started to work out in the morning but wasn't into it. I turned it off and told myself I would workout when I got home. However when I walked in the door last night I had a slight headache, my stomach ached and I was feeling slightly dizzy/nauseous. I decided it wasn't worth trying to push through my workout as I knew I wouldn't give it my all. I grabbed a pillow and laid down on the couch instead. I am feeling much better this morning. I will definitely get my workout in today.
I had a great session yesterday with my student who I see in his home. He is 7 years old, uses an augmentative device to communicate as speech is just not there, can be unresponsive at times and has low academic and self-help skills for a child of his age. But over all he is a great kid, just a little love bug. Anyhow, he completely surprised me and started doing things I never imagined he was capable of. We were working on functional play skills in the home and using his augmentative device he requested the iPad. The app he turned on was one we had not played in over a month. Last time we played he was completely prompt reliant. (I show him how to play and respond to the app.) It is a game that requires him to find the word that matches the picture. Each time the picture was displayed on the screen I verbally identified it for him and spelled the word. ("Apple. A. P. P. L. E.") Then I waited him out as his response time is very slow. Sure enough he selected the correct word. We played the game for about 5 minutes and I was completely blown away at how he was responding. I wanted to grab my phone and video the session so I could send to his parents and school however my phone was on the other side of the room and I was afraid my walking away would destroy his concentration. So I just went with it and kept going as long as we could. I was completely blown away. This IS A HUGE breakthrough!!!! As we progressed through the game the words became more difficult. I eventually decided to wrap it up because I could tell he was starting to lose focus as difficulty increased and I didn't want to push too hard. I didn't see his parents yesterday so I left them a 2 page note about all the great things he was doing and asked them to follow up during the week and continue to practice. I also showed his older brother (early 20's) what we were doing so he could help explain to his parents if they had any questions. I have not heard from them yet and I am quite curious if they were able to elicit the same behaviors out of him. I am going to call them later to follow up with them. His success really made my day yesterday!
Lives - Thanks. I am doing a happy dance as well!
Brian is a systems admin at a local university. Luckily for him he also can remote in and work from home if the weather is bad. I've never thought of it before that it isn't fair that other employees are not held to the same standards. I just asked him and he said his 2 colleagues who have the same position as him do not do as much work from home as he does. But he also explained that even though the 3 of them have the same job, my husband is considered the main person and the other two are technically his "assistants". It is the same with him though that if the systems crash he is expected to go into work and fix them. The entire university relies
on those systems being fully functional so I can understand in his situation why he would have to go in.
Susan - So glad you are back. I like your new profile picture!
Sorry to hear that Cyrus had a meltdown and you were having such a rough time. How did Cyrus take it when you had the conversation about what sole custody meant?
Oh my goodenss, I don't know how you do it when facing stuff like those baked goods every day. I was looking at the boxes and was trying to figure out which one I would eat if I were you. LOL
I don't know if I could make it an entire month without stepping on the scale once. I am in the habit of stepping on each morning and watching those fluctuations. It would be interesting though to see the progress I have made during the month all in one shot. (Measurements, scale and progress pictures) Maybe one day I will become adventurous and give it a try.
Tracy - I would be irritated too. So sorry.
Kah - Wahoo for friends calling you skinny! That must have been a really nice feeling to receive that compliment. Glad to hear you have a Keurig as a back up. We ran out of coffee and were waiting for our next Gevalia delivery to come. :noway: Most of last week I drank my peppermint tea in the morning. I am surprised I didn't have headaches from not having the caffeine.
Skinny - I know exactly what you mean about the clothes. So far I have been wearing the same old stuff as always. Some things are fitting a bit differently on me. I especially noticed with my workout clothes. The tee shirts I have been wearing seem really large now in the neck area. They are starting to fit me like a scoop neck tee rather than a regular one. Old Navy had a sale on tees so I bought a few more recently. What a difference between how the new ones and old ones fit. I hope you enjoy your day off!
Helena - Welcome back! Congrats on your loss, feeling better and the new exercise routine.
coffencr - Welcome and congrats on the loss.
Robin - That is crazy that the water was sloshing around from the wind. Could you feel it in your condo too?
Hayley - Those classes you are taking sound interesting.
Laurie - That workout sounds intense. Glad you were able to get it done even through it wasn't with your trainer.
Jtconst - That hike sounds amazing. Glad to hear you enjoyed it.0 -
I miss you guys!! I have been swamped and finally decided to get consistent with my logging again. I am still working out and doing Yoga. My BFF started going to the gym with me, which is AWESOME! I may not check in very often, but I am here, cheering you all on full force! :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:
@JNettie- YAY for your student! It sounds like you are a very patient and intuitive teacher. Great job. :drinker:
@Jtconst- I’m proud of you, too! Great job on the hike. Next time will be a little easier, and the time after… then you won’t feel weak at all! Which park? We are thinking of doing some hikes this summer… several spots around the state.
@Laurie- WOW, a two hour workout???!!! No thank you. You are a brave and adventurous soul! :drinker:
@Hayley5680- I hear you on the logging! I was amazed, when I first started logging, at just how much fat and sugar (AND calories) was in everything I ate. It blew me away. Great job finding the lesson in that and not letting it bring you down. I am sure you can and will lose 1 lb… and probably even 1.5! :drinker: I am cheering for you!0 -
I know I can’t even compare the temps to those some of you are facing, but my drive to work in 25 degrees this morning was not pleasant! :grumble: I know it’s just for a day or two here - we’re back in the 70s on Thursday – but I sure hope this cold snap is over soon for all of us.
@Nettie~OMG, if I went a day without coffee I think I would spontaneously combust! Gevalia has some good blends, my boss uses the pods for the Tassimo machine we have in the office. I’m a diehard Starbucks lover though – and drink it black. What a fantastic day with your student!
@Tammy~Hooray for the loss and another great active day!
@Haley~Sounds like you signed up for some great swim classes. My gym has swim coaching classes, for a fee. I used to love swimming (was a lifeguard when I was in my 20s) but now I hate what the chlorine does to my hair and I feel like it’s just more trouble than it’s worth.
@Laurie~Sorry the session with your trainer didn’t pan out yesterday, sounds like you got a great workout in despite that.
AFM~Not much to report and no new goals (except to add spin once/week starting this week or next). Tried out a different elliptical yesterday, only lasted 5 minutes though – it really bothered my calves and knee, I think the stride is for shorter people. I typically use an elliptical that allows me to set my stride, nice when your tall. So, back to the arc trainer I went and did the intervals program – decent workout though.
Exercise Goals:
Monday~Gym, elliptical (or spin) DONE (arc trainer)
Tuesday~Gym, treadmill (spin instructor on this day is pure evil!)
Wedneday~Gym, training session
Thursday~Gym, arc trainer (or racquetball with trainer – or spin)
Friday~Rest Day
Saturday~Gym, running (or spin in afternoon)
Sunday~Gym, training session
Every once in a while we talk about what’s going through our heads as we lose weight and the challenges we still face mentally and with body dysmorphophobia. I ran across this thread today and thought it was worth a read (the first post at least), so thought I would share.

Have a great day and stay warm!0 -
Yesterday I stayed close to recommended calories all due to the fact that I am behind in grocery shopping - lesson learned. I need to start keeping stuff OUT OF THE HOUSE. Since my pain meds are increased I have less urge to nosh all the time, so no more need for pudding cups and stuff like that every half hour. Whew - the dependence on that stuff was enormous. So yesterday I survived on just a late breakfast and early dinner and decaf coffee with plenty of milk in it before bed. I feel really proud of myself - first time I've eaten like that in MONTHS! :blushing:0
-
Thanks for the warm welcome back.!
Tuesday goal:Just to keep up with my exercise. I start the basic program in you are your own gym tonight. Also to hopefully be out of the 300's this weekend! I know my weight loss is slowing down which is to be expected and that doesn't bother me because I didn't think I'd lose so fast in the first place. I think I'm losing between 2-3 lbs a week right now and I am happy with that.
@Skinny-My mom, unfortunately, is not doing great. She is still fighting though. Her Dr. says the cancer has spread since they started doing treatment. My mom is almost always tired and not feeling well. She says if it weren't for all the drugs they pump into her she would feel fine. She said before all of this she didn't feel like she had cancer and now she says she's feeling like she's near the end. She doesn't want to give up the fight though. She may be starting some clinical trials at MD Anderson soon. Hopefully they are better at treating her in a timely matter.
@Susan- I eat a lot of meat these days. I usually start my day off with 3 scrambled eggs and a piece of fruit. Followed by some veggie as a snack, lunch is either left overs from the day before or a chicken salad with either 6 or 8 oz of chicken, then probably baby carrots and guacamole, and for dinner more meat of some kind with veggies, and dessert is usually another piece of fruit and if I worked out I add in a banana. One of my do to easy meals is chicken avacado salad in cabbage wraps (so delicious and easy). I also rarely cook any of my produce so that takes out the added calories of any cooking oil leaving more cals for meat. I still use olive oil, which has always been my favorite, for my chicken. I only use coconut oil for my skin, I know it's healthy but I really just can not stand the taste of coconut. They also have paleo friendly protein powders. They are a little more expensive but worth it. Just look for plant based protein powders. If you ever go 100% paleo beware of the detox you may go through. Mine was pretty miserable. Most people think detoxing you are just in the bathroom all the time but that's not true for everyone. I though I had the flu. I was taking medicine but kept getting worse so I did some research and realized I was detoxing and stopped taking the medicine, soon after that I started to feel better. It took me 3 weeks to fully detox. but I'm glad it's all out of the way because I feel so good. Also, could you send me the recipe for the chicken and artichoke in garlic sauce please? It sounds great!
@Kah- I don't even remember the last time it was this cold in Houston, and now they are saying expect sleet and snow. It's 34 degrees here and thankfully I only live 3 miles from work otherwise my non heated car ride to work would have been much worse. They closed the schools today because we were supposed to wake up to sleet and snow but so far it's just cold. Being from the north I think it is really funny how early they closed schools yesterday for today.
@Robin- Too funny about your toilet water.
@Laurie- Awesome job on following the workout your trainer sent you without her being there! I don't know if I would have been that motivated or focused. If it weren't for Deputy I do not know if I'd even being doing C25K.
I hope everyone has a great day!

@helena--sorry to hear your mom is feeling so poor--I hope the clinical trials turn that around. :flowerforyou: I've also thought of going on a more paleo-like diet, but I struggle to just get my 30% protein with my current macros. I love all types of meat, but it seems like I can never keep enough of it cooked and ready to go. I cooked 4 chicken breasts the other night, and my DH ate 2 of them for dinner. It seems like if I prepare meat, it's gone in a matter of moments. I know lunch-meat is a convenient option, but I hate all of the sodium.
@robin--so proud of you for getting back to your goal! :drinker: I know you must feel great about that!
@kelley--I think you hit the nail on the head for me when it comes to swimming as a workout. It just seems like such a hassle. Although I'm not much of a swimmer, my old gym had a bunch of water aerobics classes--they were appealing b/c I like to "play" in the water, but I never went b/c the pool just seems to add so much time to a workout. If I'm going to go in the water, it needs to be an all-day commitment at the beach, or at the spa like my friend and I did last week; otherwise, it's not worth it to me.
@nicole--great to see you and to hear you are still at it! :flowerforyou:
@nettie--glad you are feeling better today--sounds like you needed a rest day.
@amanda--sounds like you had a fun b-day weekend! :drinker:
@L2T--I have faith that you will get into at least some of those travel clothes. If you do need to buy a few things, are you okay with going secondhand? When I was still losing quickly I relied on Good Will for some clothing items. My first summer after losing, I really needed a couple of pair of capri pants to get me through the season. I found 2 pair at GW that were brand new (tags still on them!) for $4 each. :noway: They were falling off of me by the end of the summer, but I didn't mind donating them back b/c I certainly got my $8 worth of wear.
Tuesday Goal:
My goal is to get through the rest of my grading and figure out what to do about revising my AP lessons. It's so hard to figure out what to omit--they need it all. :grumble: However, College Board won't be pushing back AP Exam dates due to cold weather, so I'll just have to figure it out.
Grading goals:
1. x/16 AP analysis activities
2. post participation grades DONE
3. x/51 JRP journals
Exercise goals:
Mon--gym (lift + HIIT) NOT DONE
Tues--gym (cardio)
Wed--walk gunner
Thurs--walk gunner + (lift + HIIT)
Fri--rest day
Sat--walk gunner + gym (cardio)
Sun--walk gunner + (lift + HIIT)
Exercise & Weight:
Bench press = 85
Dead lift = 90
Squat = 90
Overhead press = 55
Upright row = 60
Overhead tricep extension = 25 (dumbbell)
Bicep curl = 15 (dumbbell)
Lat pull down = 100
Tricep pull down = 900 -
Reading post and logging have been doing well so far. I need to get a scale and check the damage (have been on hiatus for a couple months).
Robin I will try the list but right not I don’t write each day. I think it will work anyway. I did go walking last night 46 min, which was good.
Tonight is going to be a challenge we are going to a really nice restaurant and it is buffet style. I will have to fill up on water and salad, but who knows when I will ever be back at this ritzy place. I am most likely going to overdo my calories but having a lite breakfast and dinner.0 -
Tuesday Goal: This week my goal is to stay on track. After the past few weeks, I’m getting back to basics and for me this will include the following:
1) Log every single BLT
2) Drink at least 64 oz of water each day
3) Exercise 5 days this week
4) Check into the thread at least once a day for support
5) Stay off the scale – too much anxiety with the fluctuations
6) Eat Paleo 90% of the time
@ Karen – Enjoy your snow day, but get some papers graded. LOL!! It sounds like you were productive at the school yesterday, which is a good thing too and you did get in a few exercise calories bending, lifting and lugging. Good for you!
@ Kaye – The only way I can do personals is a trick Kelly told me. I keep open a Word document and just go back and forth. Once I’m done, I just copy/paste into MFP. It’s the only way I could figure it out to be honest. I don’t do them every day, but I do enjoy doing the personals when I can. Good job walking even with dreary skies. Always impressed when I see folks out in yucky weather.
@ L2T – You made me chuckle. After living in the south for 18 years, I always laughed at the shelves being empty of bread and milk. What exactly we’re people going to make French toast? LOL!! I guess a lot of PBJ? It is a comical sight though to see everyone scrambling in the grocery store. Any hint of the white stuff and the south freaks out. From growing up in the north, it always made me laugh. I think 7-8 lbs is still doable. Fight hard!!
@ MissManda – Happy Belated!! I look forward to getting to know you as well. I know I’ve had a few too many adult beverages, but it doesn’t happen often (thank goodness!!).
@ Nettie – What a wonderful feeling that must be to see a child break-through. It’s those “a-ha” moments that make all the ups and downs so worth it. I’m so happy for you and the child. Regarding Cyrus, he was OK with it. When he was younger, he use to ask me all the time why his Dad never called him or if his Dad loved him. Those were tough questions to answer without telling him his Dad’s a total deadbeat. I don’t even get into the fact he’s over $50,000 behind in child support. I don’t get a dime, but that’s my choice too. I could go after him, but it’s just not worth it to me. I’m very, very thankful I make a decent living to support us.
@ Nicole – I’m so happy for you!! I’ve got another MFP friend who I found out only lives like 3 miles from me. We are starting to walk together on the weekends. I’m loving it!! Are you back in school as well? I know you had a lot going on before the holidays. Glad you’re still enjoying the gym, yoga, etc. . . it makes such a difference.
@ Robin – I had to do a major clean out of my cupboards. I had stuff that just was not going to help me in any way. I ended up giving it to the neighbors with 5 kids. I can’t throw $$ away and I know it will help them even just a little.
@ Kelly – I’m the same way. Vegas does get chilly in the AM, but by afternoon we’re right back up to the warm temps. Not complaining one bit!!
@ Helena – My heart goes out to your family right now. Last weekend we spent time with my friends in Atlanta. My friend’s dear husband who is only 40 is battling too. Last January they found stage 4 colon cancer, which has now moved to his liver and recently his lungs. He’s been in chemo all year. This last new treatment has caused a serious rash. Poor guy is literally covered head to toe in little red bumps. He’s miserable. They’re praying that’s a good sign because they’ve heard that’s a sign the chemo is working. They took a scan last Thursday and will know the results this week. Praying hard. Cancer really sucks!!!! Thanks for the feedback on your eating. Mine is similar. Do you share your diary? I know we’re not personal friends on here, but I’ll friend you if that’s OK. I like to watch Kelly’s diary, but she’s close to Paleo as well and I always get some good tips from her as well. I’ll shoot you the chicken, which is super easy.0 -
So you remember yesterday's picture well here is today's. Brownies and cookies. The tray is a Salted Caramel Brownie tray. I didn't eat any pastries yesterday and I'm not eating any sweets today. I can do this!!! Unfortunately, sweets are a major trigger food for me and this is hard, but being this weight is even harder. Sigh.

Thanks for the tip on personals. I haven't figured out how to toggle back and forth on my tablet. I'll have to try on our desktop.
Helena, I'm sorry your mother is struggling. That is so hard for all of you.
My goals are always pretty much the same. Logging, staying under goal, doing some exercise every day, and drinking more water. I'm still really bad about the water. I read about synovitis online and it sounds like I may be stuck with it for a long time. Oh well, at least I can go for a walk.
Have a good day. Onward and downward. Kaye0 -
I've been off this thread for several days, but I've been logging on my phone. I weighed in on Saturday, and I was down another half pound. (Every little bit down is so much better than a little bit up, right?)
I've been feeling under the weather (respiratory bug), and it's sooooo cold that I've been skipping the gym and comforting myself with food. My goal for the rest of this week is to curb my late night snacking. I'm not a bear, so I shouldn't be storing up and hibernating!
Now, who else needs a nap? *YAWN*0 -
Boy, there are sure some great losses going on out in Robin's Thread land...Way to go folks!! I'm not seeing the changes, bu still hoping that my being "good" will catch up with me on the scale soon. My Tuesday goal is to have a week like I did last week...on point for calories and continuing at the gym.
@Helena...I'm so glad Paleo is working for you. It doesn't really appeal to me (at this time), but quite a few here have been doing it well. Sorry to hear about your mom. Hopefully she'll respond well to the clinical trials.
@coffendr...Nice loss!!
@Robin...I don't think I've ever seen my toilet water slosh. Funny! Good job on having a great day yesterday. One day at a time!
@Hayley...I agree. If I don't log throughout the day, A. I don't remember it all and B. my supper is sparse and that makes me wake up an angry, hungry lady. I get a kick out of the mirrors at the gym. I watch my form in it during squats and OHP, but when I'm doing my bench, I laugh when I see these young men angling their bodies just so and flexing and then turning and flexing more. Maybe when I'm skinny(ier) I'll want to do that too, but for now, I have to look to make sure I'm staying in top form.
@Laurie...I'm glad you were able to discuss that with your trainer...sounds like she's pretty open to feedback.
@Tammy...sounds like a beautiful and healthy hike. We did a bit of that in the Black Hills a couple of weeks ago. We are planning to go back this summer (it helps that my SIL lives there so I don't have to pay hotel) and we're going to hike around Devil's Tower. I've never been there. I also your area of the country left on my to do list. I've never been to the NW or SE sections of our great country...some day!!!
@Karen...glad you are able to be productive on your days off (let's be honest...postponed days). The grading you have to do is just shocking to me. My mom was the principal and business teacher at our high school. One thing she never did was bring home work to grade. She would stay until it was done (obviously business classes are way different than an AP English). Lots of times, it worked that we would finish our basketball, cheerleading or track practice around the same time so we carpooled. I'm sure it was more her peace of mind as she had 5 kids at home and probably couldn't get any grading done anyway, so at least she could focus at school. :grumble:
@Claudia...You've done so well and based on how much you've lost, the scale will slow down. But I still think 8 pounds should be do-able. You're doing great!
@Jeanette...What a rewarding day! I'm so glad our world has teachers like you (and so many others on this thread).
@Kelley...yes, 25 degrees would be lovely for us, but that is a 45 degree drop from normal. Our average temp right for January would be 21, so it's only a drop of about 10-15 degrees. When I look at it that way, I can't complain too badly. I just want the wind to stop blowing directly through my patio door. I didn't realize there were differences in Ellipticals Hmm. You learn something new everyday. Or maybe it's because I'm on the shorter end that I've never noticed it.
@Susan...Karen actually taught me a different way to do personals. Do a right click on the "reply" button and then open in a new window. The posts will be in one window and I type in a different one. I have two monitors for my work, but you could shrink them down half and half and be able to type the same time you are reading. I could have passed pretty easily on the donuts yesterday, but caramel brownies......good..no great...job!
AFM: I'm going to toot my own horn here for a minute. I'm pretty much maxed out on my lifting...each one is a struggle but yesterday I did a new personal record on the Bench Press. I did 5 sets of 5 at my new high of 100 pounds. I was not able to do 100 pounds of the bent over rows, but I did get through at 155 pounds for my squats. Anyone who says you don't get any cardio workout from lifting is either in way better shape than me or not doing it right. When I get done with 5 squats, my heart is beating pretty fast and I'm sweating away. :smokin:
Friday - C25K and Aqua Aerobics (NOT DONE - DONE)

@ Helena, Kelly or others following Paleo here's a really yummy recipe my trainer shared. Hopefully it shows up. It's a "little" hard to read the copy, but I think you get the idea. If not, I can send a personal e-mail too. I know Helena you're not a fan of the coconut oil just use your own EVOO or whatever you prefer. It was pretty yummy. Enjoy!!!
