Food posts on FaceBook- am I being mean?

People have a right to eat whatever they want. Let's face it......If we ate fruits and veggies our whole lives and only what was "healthy" for us, we wouldn't be here. You had your fun, now let someone else.
If, by "you've had your fun", you mean that I went through a stage of living on the couch eating pork rinds and Millionaire Spaghetti Pie with Banana Nut Brownies for dessert, well. not really. I'm 5'7". I weighed 130 when I got out of HS, I'm 129 now and was 147 at my peak (not counting pregnancy). I've been working out almost daily my entire adult life to keep my body healthy and my BMI within normal limits.
And I DO indulge in food that's not good for me on occasion- but not so often that it results in weight gain.
You are AWESOME!

Actually, I closed down my Facebook account quite a while ago. I found that it provided nothing useful in my life and was a huge time drain. I am so much happier now that I don't have Facebook in my life. The bonus is that I don't have to see, and am not tempted by, recipes people post.
I haven't closed mine, but only log in about once a week or less to see the very few posts I am interested in (like if my children are planning to come visit me. Ha!).
FB is like the newspaper. The good stuff doesn't get much attention. But post something about a chocolate covered sugar cube recipe...0 -
So, I finally got tired of (some) of my FB friends who post almost nothing but recipes on FB. And not just ANY recipes. You know the kind I mean- bar cookies covered with half an inch of frosting, casseroles loaded with bacon and cheese, something called "millionaire spaghetti pie"... sadly, the people who post these recipes really need to eat less of this stuff- they're all overweight. And every one of these recipes starts with "Hit 'Share' so this will be saved on your timeline so you won't lose it." and they comply. Now I don't wanna get all preachy on FB, but about a week ago I decide to look up the nutritional info on one of these concoctions. Umm, if you really do divide the 13 X 9 X 5 pan contents into 15 pieces, one Banana Nut Brownie with cream cheese frosting has 459 calories and 48% of the recommended max for saturated fat. And who eats just one when the rest of the pan is staring at you and the first one was so good?
So, I posted that info, just as a public service and all... and did that for 2 more particularly egregious recipes I've seen since then. One friend got all defensive and said that it was OK as an occasional treat.. which is how she replied when I commented on some cheese/bacon/egg casserole thing she posted at Christmas.
Disclosure: I do like some of that stuff, but my tactic is to go to a place where I can get ONE serving (e.g., a good bakery), take it home, enjoy every single calorie and fat gram, then go back to my usual good habits. No way I'd let piles of that stuff live in my kitchen.
So- how do YOU deal with FaceBook Foodies?

I don't care if other people eat that garbage, it just annoys me when they "share" the post so it goes on their timeline.. Why not just take a screen shot of the recipe and that way it's saved in your phone instead of all over my news feed? IDK why it bothers me so much but it does lol.0

I am a foodie, and I post stuff on FB. I occasionally share recipes found, but more often than not, I make a post about what I'm making, occasionally with a picture of said meal, if I'm particularly proud.
Just a thought, and maybe someone else has already mentioned this, but- just because someone shares a recipe doesn't mean they are making it. I don't know your friends, but I know myself. I see a lot of things that look appealing, but that doesn't mean it's in my kitchen and shoved in my gob. I love to bake, but I rarely do so, because, like you said, it's pretty damn difficult to have "just one" when the whole pan of yumminess is staring you in the face.
Also, I had a friend once comment on my dinners, finding it annoying that I was letting FBland know what's on the menu... over a dozen friends had commented in response to her post on my wall, asking me to keep sharing, because it gives them ideas.
I guess the take away is, it's their page, they can do as they please. If you really can't handle seeing it, unfollow them.

Ummm actually it is not…It is a free country and if people want to be fat and lazy then they can be fat and lazy with no help from you..on the flip side, if people want to be athletic, eat right, and be healthy then they can with no help from anyone else..
this country was built on self reliance and independence…..not a nanny state that told people what mold they have to fit in …geez….
But they ARE getting help from me. As I noted in my OP, taxes pay for a good deal of medical care in this country. More medical care for preventable conditions = more taxes. No way around it. For the insured, more claims that the insurer has to pay for preventable conditions = more premiums we all pay. Not to mention the human cost of those preventable conditions- not being able to enjoy a good bike ride, getting winded after a walk down your driveway, knee pain, back pain. I want everyone to feel as good as I do.
Having said that, I am re-thinking this practice of telling people what's in the crap they post since so many people think it's mean. And I had already cut the news feed off for one guy who seemed to post nothing but recipes for things I wouldn't eat. Tell me about your vacation or your kid's wedding or shoe me a pic of your newest grandchild or even express an opinion I disagree with. I'll be gentle if I reply at all. Just don't blindly repost stuff. (And I WILL stay off pinterest.)

"I want everyone to feel as good as I do" this is the famous last line of communists and despots everywhere..they want the people to "feel good" and "be equal" so they set up a system of government to make everyone equal and all it does is put its boot on the back of their neck and repress them…just because you want everyone to be "fit and healthy" does not give you the right to force that feeling/lifestyle on them...

I hit the "hide" post button when I see things I don't want to see. I have a friend who lives in Japan and I swear she posts a picture of every single meal! There are several dishes and it's always followed up with a "what I had for dessert" post. I figure if I just hide them like I do with political posts I can go about my day without it bothering me. Pinterest is bad enough without seeing all of that in my Facebook feed too!0

chocolate ecclair cake
any one got the recipe?
I do have the recipe and am asked to make it all the time. Funny, the men really seem to like this dessert the most. It is expected every year for the Super Bowl.
2 small pkg vanilla instant pudding
3 cups milk
12 oz. cool whip
graham cracker squares
2 oz. squares chocolate
3 tbsp margarine
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
Must make at least 12 hours before serving so graham crackers get soft.
Combine pudding mix and milk; mix until well blended about 1-2 minutes. Add cool whip to pudding. In a 9x13 inch pan, place a layer of graham cracker squares to cover bottom. Put half of the pudding mixture over graham crackers. Add another layer of graham cracker squares. Place remaining pudding mixture over graham crackers and add a third layer of graham cracker squares.
Melt margarine and chocolate in saucepan. Add syrup, vanilla and powdered sugar. Stir together and spread over the top of the dessert. Refrigerate.
**I made the chocolate topping and found it was too sticky to spread so I have since just squeezed Hershey's syrup over the top layer of graham crackers. It is a little runny but tastes just as good.
Hope you like it - it is very easy to make!

I don't mind the occasional recipe, but then there are "those" people. You know the ones. The ones where you log on in the morning and have to scroll through 14 dozen posts they've "saved" to their timelines and will probably never make anyway, but they want them there "just in case" they decide to try them?
Those people I take out of my feed. The occasional recipe posters, no problem. I don't do it because they're recipes full of fat and calories - no, I have self-control. I do it because it's obnoxious when it's too much. I want to see how your kids are doing, not 47 brownie recipes. It's the same for me with people who constantly post overly political nonsense, stupid Internet rumors and myths, and too, too many Bitstrips comics. Out of my feed!

My married kids follow a paleo lifestyle. My daughter posts yummy-looking pictures on FB regularly of the dishes she prepared.
She loves cooking. That doesn't mean I have to rush off to the kitchen to stuff myself with whatever is on hand, does it?0 -
on the éclair cake...you can use a canned frosting for the top if you don't want to make the glaze from scratch.

I use the Facebook Purity add-on to automatically block all shared links, shared pictures, uploaded pictures, whatever, from people who endlessly spam tons of crap into my news feed every day. Installing that add-on made my life drastically better. Suddenly all I see on Facebook are the actual status updates posted by my friends and family, which are why I'm on Facebook in the first place.0
