    Change "your" to "my" in the above sentence and it is very slightly better. You have a right to say that those calories do not fit into your daily goal. It crosses a line to say that they do not fit into someone else's.

    Interesting perspective. I would have thought that saying I wouldn't make that because it doesn't fit in with my calorie/fat goals would have sounded holier-than-thou and I didn't want to come off that way, either.

    Last night my wonderful DIL's parents posted a recipe for "Hot cheesy spinach dip".

    Must..back..away..from..keyboard....;-)

    HIDE them! Problem solved. I have 99% of the people on my FB hidden. If I want to look at someone's pictures, I'll go to their page. This way I don't have to read all their drama and see every detail of their lives PLUS I don't have to see those fattening recipes.

  • My Pinterest "foodie" stuff is FULL of fattening droolicious recipes lol. There's even a recipe for chocolate chip cookies stuffed with oreos. Yep. I made them for a kids party we were going to and the kids (and moms) LOVED them! Nothing wrong with things in moderation!

    It's really their problem. When someone is annoying me on fb I unfriend or hide them. No need to preach really - they know it's bad.

    I did hide one because he couldn't seem to find anything else to post other than pictures of rich food. Oh, yeah- once he posted a link to a site with recipes for "natural cleanses", which you don't need if you eat healthy in the first place.

    I genuinely enjoy posts from my friends with kids who do funny and interesting things, who post from various places, who let me into a little of their daily lives even though we live far away. I know it's helped me maintain ties with friends and family that I might have lost touch with over the years otherwise. But the ones who do nothing but re-post recipes and pictures of flowers and kittycats and "share this if you love your daughter more than anything else in the world"- meh. I can live without that.

    Cheesy spinach dip sounds awesome. In moderation, at a party. I'd make it. But not for dinner.

    Endless baby photos and updates (Oooo baby pooed it's nappy, Oooo baby torturing the cat, Oooo baby dribbling food down its chin, isn't it cute?) and religious BS are grounds for unfollowing IMO.

    PP did say "very slightly better" - still not good.

    best thing really is to say nothing - block, hide or whatever the pictures if you cant control yourself to say nothing.

    And like others have said, there is a time and place for everything - facebook is not the time or place for unsolicited advice.

    Dinner is not the time or place for large helping of cheesy spinach dip - but great for a bring a plate party food.

    No-one is posting these recipes with recomendations that you must cook them and eat large helping for your dinner every night are they?

    Surely they are expecting you to see a picture of chocolate cake and know when to cook/eat it and when not to.

    all their stuff is amazing. I love the post they did about 50 freezer meals in one afternoon. Also their Cinnabon Cinnamon Roll Cake is to die for.

    No, you are not being mean! You are just giving them so information on the dish. I have friends that do the same thing and I just ignore most of them because the dishes are so extreme!

    I personally thought the dishes and their calorie count that you mentioned was hilarious!

    don't make it sound like you were doing a 'public service', unless you really were being totally nice.. but yeah if you pointed their weight out and dictated to them the calorie content and fat content i'd say for sure it was kinda mean and inappropriate.

    It was something on the order of..." Funny these recipes don't include nutritional info, but I found that this is 459 calories per serving with 45% of your daily saturated fat allowance, 91 g carbohydrates,,," I may even have added a smiley face. I NEVER refer to the shape the person is in. I don't want to make people feel bad about themselves; I had an Ex who did that so I know what it feels like to be on the receiving end. I wanted to let them know what that recipe might do to their bodies.

    Really think it's a newsflash that a swelteringly delicious chocolate cake is 1,000 calories per serving? People already know this. I'd say a valueable way to participate here is to follow up with your alternatives or ingredient substitutions that cut down the calories and yet taste almost like the real thing. Then you can post before and after calorie counts. :smile:

    Also if they weigh more than you, their caloric/fat/carbohydrate allowance is more than yours, so there!

    I do agree that if you insist, you could find other ways to communicate the same thing, though. It's just, why?! Like, "wow, that looks delicious. I can just see the extra inches going straight to my *kitten*"

    Hey, I can buy into that! DH and I just celebrated my birthday with some good Ardbegh and we've got a closet full of single-malt cask-strength scotch whisky. Some of it is from a shop in London (Cadenhead's) and you can't get it in the US. Since whisky isn't meant to be guzzled (and I'd get a migraine if I did), a typical quantity, savored slowly, isn't a threat to your diet.

    I like the idea of just saying something funny like "I think I gained 10 lbs. just looking at that picture so I don't think I'll be making it".

    Speaking of food FB posts. Someone just posted a pic of "totchos." Nacho stuff on top of tater tots. I have to admit, I am intrigued. I'm sure I won't be making them, but I would love to try them.

    Honestly, people make their own food choices. While it may be helpful to tell them how many calories, etc it has, it's not likely to stop them. Just look at the picture, think "that looks delicious" and move on. That's what I do. :flowerforyou:

    Agreed..Can't stand when a friend on fb tells me how to use MY fb. If you don't like what I post thn un-friend me. I think the beauty in/on fb is that you get a wide range of info / post.
