I have been involved in the past with a man on steroids, it was NOT a good relationship, and I do blame it on the steroids. The rage and aggressiveness were very scary and increased with his continued use.

I would never again date a man that took steroids, I have learned my lesson.

Yes, I am still attracted to men with muscle definition, but it must be natural.

This type of topic of course will get people upset. Obviously - there are some on MFP that use roids. Often when it comes to addiction, they will use everything to defend their behavior and become defensive if anyone challenges it. "Roid rage" is not from the steroids - it is withdrawal from the drug. A drug is a drug, and a person who is an addict does not have their drug - they have the potential to become aggressive.

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about

My husband is 5'11" and 137lbs. He eats 6500-7000 calories a day to maintain due to a massive metabolic problem. He eats until hes sick.
We started working out and he got a 5000 calorie protein powder in addition to his usual intake. He gained 10lbs in 5 months. We had to quit lifting and he lost 13lbs in three weeks.
It bothers him endlessly that his wife is as heavy as him. That he cant gain. It ruins his self esteem.

He has started taking hormonal supplements and considering steroids. We have discussed cost, risk, and benefits and decided not to go that route, but i would never look at him differently if he started using them. Just like women get boob jobs or add makeup or try fad diets to boost their confidence-men need to feel good qbout themselces too.

I don't have any problem with adults making an informed decision to use performance enhancing drugs because many people do many things to control their body and mind. I have a hard time taking Ibuprofen, but if a person wants to do it, I have no problem with it and I think they should be legal. Top athletes work extremely hard and put their bodies through rough times to achieve top level performances with or without steroids. For men over 50, it could have even more benefits, and for women it has many benefits, however, of course there are varying side effects and possible long term side effects, but so does Adderall and Xanax and Wellbutrin, which is what my mother takes for Bi-Polar. A close friend of mine is on Adderall for ADHD, and my maternal cousin takes Xanax for crippling anxiety. I also think the various news stories sensationalizing the possible horrific side effects of steroids is exaggeration. Adults should be able to use them if they so choose. There's a great documentary of steroid use called Bigger, Stronger, Faster: The Side Effects of Being American. Yes, I would date a man that used steroids, as I would date a man taking beta-blockers, marijuana, Viagra, Ambien, alcohol, etc. Of course, this is relying on the rule of moderation, anything can be ruined in the extreme. I would not date a man if he was using cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, ecstasy, ketamine, cigarettes.

I think every male whose but in at least a couple years of consistent training has considered using steroids. Obviously, taking a drug that will push the body to heights in 6 months that would take 4 years of hard training and a great diet is going to appeal to men. I have never taken them, and never will. My reasoning for that is I don't want anything in my body that might cause my natural testosterone to decrease post usage. Most guys that get on steroids have a lot of trouble getting off of them, and it's never I'll just do one cycle thing from the research I've done, and about 1/2 the men at my gym regularly use steroids.

I don't have any less respect or more respect for the hard core lifters that use them. The guys that use, who I think are total Dousche bags, are the less serious guys who use steroids so they can put in 3 sissy workouts a week and haven't paid their dues, and are just trying to flaunt themselves around bars & clubs and are relying on drugs to make themselves look good.

I have not read the whole thread as it is so long, but I would not rule out dating a user (if I was single of course) at all.
In fact I have often thought about using myself.
Also, LOLed at the person not letting their husband drink protein shakes. What are you gonna ban next, chicken?!

Most of the info coming from females in this thread is incredibly wrong. Don't comment unless you have even the slightest idea of what you are talking about. We stay out of daily 'time of the month' threads lol. The misinformation is dangerous and wrong

FYI. Roid rage is a myth. Any woman that mentioned it (almost every one) is parroting wrong information and needs to be disregarded. Testosterone has a slight effect on aggression. Slight. The same attribute also increases confidence in men.

If the guy is an *kitten*, he's an *kitten*. Regardless of chemical enhancements.

If you want the truth, go to one of the many dedicated message boards for this

I personally don't care about 'roid rage' or any of the side effects (or lack of?). As far as I'm concerned, if a guy is taking steroids for the purpose of growing muscular, I wouldn't find him attractive. Regardless of how nice he is - I just wouldn't want to date a guy with that kind of mindset.

Which is what the thread is asking, right?

As an additional note, there was someone early on in the thread who said they don't like women who use steroids because it give them a manly voice etc, but went on to say they like Dana Linn Bailey. I love DLB, but girl is jacked, i'm 99.99% sure she is using. There are many women who are using who look way less buff than her.

Used to be completely against steroids til I learned more about them. Have never used anything but most likely will in the future after I reach my goals. I compete in powerlifting and steroids are a tool to take you to the next level and it's not cheating because everyone at that level is on them. Personally I won't even consider taking them until I hit certain weights in each lift. The only people I look down on that take steroids are the people that take them as soon as or soon after they start lifting. I don't look down on pro athletes that take them because most pro athletes are on them, so it's not cheating, just evening the playing field.

It's your business if you decide to take them, but I just wanted to say that your muscles look very nice. Ideal to me, in fact. I find your photo very attractive, but if your arms were any bigger, I probably wouldn't.

It doesn't seem much different than a chick caking on excessive makeup to me. Or a chick that gets beachball sized implants. There's enhancing...and then there's wayyy overdoing it. The turnoff point is where instead of seeing a person, you see "fake". It's hard to see past that. I guess it depends on what type of person you are trying to attract. I don't believe it's about being fit - be fit with working out without using chemicals if that's what it's about. I'm sure I'll get blasted for that opinion, but it's an open discussion. Call it what it is - vanity.

To the question: date a man who as taken them in the past. That's probably not a deal breaker.

To the question: date a man currently using, that would be a deal breaker. I would be most concerned with the potential for "addictive personality." I don't have any personal experience dealing with someone on steroids, but it probably isn't a great situation.

I agree. The mindset and the end result (which may not always be, but often is, way 'overdone') is not attractive to me. But there are plenty of women who would view it differently, and that's ok too. There's someone for everyone. :)

I dated a guy who had been at one time a bodybuilding competitor and took steroids. He had stopped using long before we met and regretted ever having taken them in the first place.

I would not date a man who was actively using steroids or other PEDs, it's a deal breaker for me. Doesn't matter how nice his body looks or how nice he may be as a person.

Haha thank you very much. The thing is that as a powerlifter my physique comes second to how much force I can produce on the platform. I have a deep love for the sport and want to see how far I can take myself and steroids are one of the things that will have to eventually happen for that. I can't really explain why I chose this path because I've found that people who haven't had similar experiences in the past just don't understand the mindset. Just trying to explain a little more :)

The first video in this playlist I made comes the closest to explaining it that I've heard but even that isn't the full story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbX5Wi4El3Q&list=PLPvYQ19BWFHF3Haet_N-3pZDLloDw-HDt&feature=mh_lolz

Thanks for your response. I wasn't sure if you'd take my comment the wrong way, or receive it in the way it was intended - a compliment. I will definitely check out your video (when I don't have a houseful over for the super bowl) - haha. I appreciate you sharing with me your reasons/different view in a nice way. :)

But what about someone that takes steroids? haha

Like I was saying before bodybuilders are only a fraction of the population that uses steroids.

Hm, let me say I few things. I know it is going to sound like generalization, but know what? I do not care. Girls care a lot more about being accepted by society than man and care a lot more what others will think of them. Of course when I was younger I thought that girls always say what they mean without double meaning. All that bullsh** about how they hate "bad boys", and muscles are gross do not mean *kitten*. They say it so because they do not want to look shallow, but guess what... it is not like that at all. Look at their actions, so asking even on this forum things like that do not mean ****. Do you know someone who is ripped? Do girls reject them because muscles are gross and do those guys ever get girls? That is what you need to look and not ask a bunch of girls/women on forum were majority did put their pictures in their profile so they are not hiding their identity (I know, I know did no put picture on my profile). I do not think that there are no girls who like geeks whit 20 kg extra, and big glasses, but reading this thread I see there is a lot more difference between reality and what people say on this forum.

For the record I don't think you look like the ogre you seem to think you do, I definitely think its more of a mental problem that maybe a therapist could help you with. Good luck :)
