Hi Y'All. Have been away for too long for a simple explanation - so will plan on putting up a Blog post over the weekend when I have time. My plan is to be back in full swing on Sunday and post a Sunday Share here that is appropriate for this thread's purpose - losing weight and supporting each other's health goals and a little about myself for the newbies.
Welcome to all the newbies I have missed.
My best to those who are struggling with any problems. I have said many a prayer for this group. :flowerforyou:
Congratulations to those with success in their lives - oh thats GREAT!!!
Love to everyone else!

Just popping in to say hi" to everyone. Back from up at the cottage for one day (doctor's appmt.), then back up north. Luckily, I took a warm coat with me last week as it was sure cool last night. I had to turn on the heat this morning.. I didn't get much exercise yesterday as was helping my daughter with two little ones. Wanted to swim, but she wouldn't won't swim in the cooler weather. I'm used to it, but we couldn't do it with the baby. The baby can only be in the water for about 10-15 minutes, and then her lips turn blue. . Anyway, dying to get back swimming. It's the first thing I'll do when we get there tomorrow. Weighing in tomorrow and hoping for a weight loss as I've eaten fairly well for the last four days. I'm praying that I get a bigger loss than usual. I even tried to log my calorie intake on my phone (no internet up there). I seem to be losing weight very slowly, and have to remind myself that's ok, but It's a little daunting when I think about how long this journey will take.0

Wednesday Wish: I wish that I could know if I'm getting this promotion or not so I can start looking for a different car. Mine's on its last leg...erm wheel. It has cooling issues and I can't afford or justify putting more money into it when I'm so close to getting a different vehicle.

Ebailey, congrats on the anniversary.
Kris, I love the picture of your kitty in the jammies. It brings back memories of my childhood. We lived on a farm with plenty of barn cats and lots of kittens to play with. Our kittens wore the doll clothes more than the dolls did.
Doing good with logging, but still using more of my exercise calories than I should.

Hi everyone!
@kaye--your comment about the doll clothes on the cats made me laugh. We had a cat for about a year when I was a kid--it was a stray that my mom felt sorry for and took in when the winter cold hit. It was a beautiful Maine Coon that was very loving and friendly most of the time, but I'm pretty sure he would've clawed my eyes out if I had tried to dress him up.
@erienne--happy anniversary! :flowerforyou: Keeping my fingers crossed that you get your promotion.
@mel--sounds like you are having a nice summer with family at the cottage.
@robin--Hi! :flowerforyou:
:
@laurie--I grew up swimming in Lake Michigan, but I never got used to the fishes nibbling at my toes. I would rather swim where there aren't any critters.
@tanya--Wowzer, that's a long hike--hope your legs feel better tomorrow.
@teresa--yes, this is such a great group--glad you found us!
@tracy--sorry you missed the slide, but I'm not gonna lie--it looks super scary! I think waiting for a year's worth of guinea pigs might be the way to go on this one. Crossing my fingers that your coolant issue is just a hose.
@dawn--10 lbs more by labor day is a great goal--I have no doubt you will reach it!
@tom--I love your posts about the daily holidays!
@kelley--I thought about an SUV, but we already have a Jeep Liberty and 2 SUVs seems unnecessary. Also, gunner is already starting to balk at jumping up into the Jeep and is much more comfortable climbing into the back of my sedan. I know that will only get worse as he gets older.
@beth--totally understand about the race. We will be in NYC from Sat 9/27 to Tues 9/30. The race is on Sunday morning, but otherwise we haven't really scheduled anything. We will keep you posted on our plans and hopefully you can come join us.
Wed Wish:
My wish is that I keep up this motivation to clean and get stuff done around the house. I didn't make it to the gym today, but it was only b/c I did so much around the house. I scrubbed my bathroom from ceiling to floor and everything in between. I also swept up lots of doggie fur throughout the house, did a couple loads of laundry, mowed the lawn, and weeded a bit. Tomorrow, I have an appointment to give blood, so no gym for me. If I go beforehand, I will be too dehydrated, and afterward I will be too tired. However, I plan to drop off a few bags of old clothes to Good Will, and maybe sort through some paperwork.
Tonight I went with a friend to go see another friend perform in a comedy show called Live Game Show Night at a bar in the city. The actors imitate old comedic characters in versions of '70s game shows. Tonight it was Pyramid and my friend played Edith Bunker.I t was a lot of fun.
I've made a bit of progress on the car purchase in that I've secured a loan through my credit union. Still need to call my insurance company and see how much it will cost to insure a Challenger. I'm hoping it's not a deal breaker--one of the few instances where it pays to be older, I guess; plus, I'm getting the V6 vs. the V8 HEMI engine, so fingers crossed that it's reasonable.

Just stopping in to say hi! It's super late (or early) but I got my wisdom teeth out a couple days ago and the pain is pretty rough. So I decided to check this out! I'm suzie btw. My food and exercise has been off this week because of my teeth so it's a little depressing but I know I'll get back in it once the pain and swelling decreases. I've lost about 87 lbs in almost 2 years but still have another 80 to go at the very least! Hoping to keep motivated by being in this thread!0
-
Yay! I'm so happy, I lost 2 lbs. this past week. My Thursday truth...I do know how to do this, I just have to keep at it and not give up when I falter. I'm feeling a lot more energetic this week.
NSV: I tried on smaller bathing suits and got into one..so I'm taking it with me to the cottage..whoo hooo!0 -
@tlh - I've seen a couple news reports showing that new water slide. My thought..... NO WAY. I'm fairly adventurous, but I have to draw the line at an activity that drops you 17 floors in a matter of seconds.
So glad this work week is almost over. It's been a bear. I'm off tomorrow and headed to Nashville with DH to visit some friends. Looking forward to getting away so I can forget about all the projects at home that I'm not making progress on. Between work, exercise and daily chores, my list of projects is covered with dust and no closer to completion than when I made the list.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

@Mel~Congrats on the loss and the smaller swimsuit—terrific!
@Karen~Hope insurance rates are reasonable for Challenger, V6 will give you better gas mileage too!
@Tracy~I saw that water slide on Yahoo yesterday, wow!
@L2T~Enjoy your trip to Nashville!
AFM~ Had a session with my trainer yesterday, first time in a month, it was all about legs—lots of squats and lunges, muscle soreness is settling in nicely. Then, I spent about 30 minutes in the far infrared sauna (incision is sealed and healing well, so felt like it was safe)—it felt great, very relaxing. I love that you can burn 300-400 calories passively in there.

HI all! I'm back from the loony bin again. Foot pain as receded enough that I've been braving morning walks again. I've been going slow and there's still some pain, but I'm hopeful! I really, REALLY missed being outside in the mornings!
My Thursday Truth: I was getting super depressed only being able to bicycle for exercise, and that depression lead to a small rebellion of not exercising at all for over a week. That being said, I still faithfully logged all my food and managed to still drop a tiny bit of weight!
July mileage goal: 30 miles!

Happy National Piña Colada Day
July 10, 2014 is National Piña Colada Day
It’s Piña Colada Day! You don’t need to be on a beach to enjoy this refreshing tropical cocktail. No matter where you are in the world, a piña colada is a great way to sit back, relax, and enjoy a little taste of the summer.
Did you know that piña coladas originated in San Juan, Puerto Rico? The term, "piña colada" means "strained pineapple" in Spanish, which makes perfect sense. A traditional recipe calls for pineapple juice, light rum, and coconut cream poured over crushed ice.
If you like piña coladas (“and getting caught in the rain!”) fix yourself an ice cold drink, top it with a mini umbrella, and celebrate National Piña Colada Day!

Good Afternoon!
No walk yesterday. Instead spent the evening after work watching my three month old great-nephew Sebastian instead. :-) He sure cures my wanting of another baby without having another one! lol Tonight I plan to make sure I get my walk in and already getting myself prepared to take Arcadia with me to the walking trail Saturday and Sunday morning. The neighborhood I live in isn't very scenic, so I like going to our walking trail for better views. This weekend will be the first weekend in a LONG time without the kiddos. I love them to death, but I need a break!
Thursday's truth: I know I'm not giving my all with this change of lifestyle. I am probably putting out 50%. I am hoping I can start putting more effort into this in time. I want and need to lose this weight. I don't want to be big anymore. :-(

Just stopping in to say hello! I am starting to feel like I have a bit more energy again. I am very excited about this. Now if only I can sleep the entire night through instead of waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to fall asleep until 5am. UGH.
Mowmow - I think that was you. Congrats on the new kitty. I loved the picture.
Skinny and Kaye - I must have missed Kaye's post about the doll clothes and cat. I have not bought any in a long time but I dress my cats up for Halloween and Christmas. It amuses me much more than it does them.
Robin - Glad to see you back.
Keep up the great work everyone. I am so proud of each one of you!0 -
Hi everyone,
So sorry for dissappearing again. It appears that I'm actually a lot better at saying hello everyday when I've got school to give me a schedule.
Still not losing. I've started cracking down and measuring better, and eating a MASSIVE amount of delicious fruit and vegetables but no loss last week and this week (Actually, a 1.5 pound gain but I'm putting that off as just approaching TOM. I hope!)
I'm meeting with a personal trainer tomorrow to start lifting and two days ago I had my first "real" run since hurting myself. In some ways it was really frustrating. I had to stop, all of the time. But, I loved it. I hope I can get back to easily doing 5k very soon, and start getting some confidence to lift for the upcoming semester.
I am so frustrated with my weight. 217.4. I had hoped to be in Onederland by my birthday a month ago. While some of the lack of success can be attributed to eating out once a week with coworkers and having visitors, the numbers simply don't seem to make sense given my activity level and my diet 80% of the time.0 -
@nettie--glad you are feeling more energetic. I also have put gunner in Halloween costumed. The first year we got him, I bought him a devil costume--size large. The cape part was way to short for him, so I had to improvise to make it fit, and he hates anything on his head, so it was a struggle to get him to wear the cap with the little horns. He looked adorable for the 3.2 seconds he was in the whole outfit.
@dawn--even 50% effort is better than no effort! :flowerforyou: It's great to give it your all, bot don't go so gung-ho that you burn out and can't sustain the changes. Sometimes making changes in baby-steps is better for the long haul.
@tom--oh my, that Hellcat would be dangerous with me behind the wheel! Love it, but not willing to spend more than half my salary on a car--even one with 707 horse power. Oh, and I already celebrated Pina Colada Day while on vacation, so I'm going to steer clear of sugary tropical drinks for a bit.
@mzfrizz--glad you can get back outside for your walks, but great job tracking and losing even while not exercising much. Proof that losing weight really is 80% nutrition and only 20% exercise! :flowerforyou:
@kelley--hope the prognosis was positive at your check-up today. Just got off the phone with my insurance company and the new Challenger will only raise my rates about $38 for the 6-month premium over what I'm paying on my current car. I think I can swing $6 and change/month.
@L2T--I'm also pretty adventurous, and I hear you on that waterslide. I would probably go on it, but only after it's got a proven safety record for at least a year! Have fun in Nashville! :drinker:
@mel--woohoo for the SV and NSV!!! :drinker:
@suzie--welcome! :flowerforyou:
Thursday Truth:
I'm getting a bit over-excited about this new car. I keep going to the website and building with different options--I need to stop myself from adding on all sorts of extras that I really, really don't need, or I will end up with that Hellcat tom posted!
On another note, I'm a bit bummed b/c I went to give blood, but found out I'm ineligible for a year b/c of the trip to DR. :ohwell: Apparently the malaria risk is too high, so I have to wait until next July to donate. On the bright side, I can hit the gym hard tomorrow for lots of mileage since my blood oxygen levels will be normal.
Still need to walk gunner and may do some more weeding--there's a vine-like weed taking over my front lawn, and I WILL defeat it!!

Hey everyone! Today has been a good day because I was off work and got to spend the day at home with my hubby. I had a 30 minute workout on the elliptical and treadmill which made me feel great. My calories were under and that is always a good thing. I told my husband that if I didn't have to work I could stay home and take care of him, exercise, and always eat right. He just smiled that smile of his.
My Thursday truth is that I haven't even finished my third week since restarting my weight loss. I have to learn to let the process work. I'm such an instant gratification kind of woman and that is something I have to learn to control. Slow and steady will see me to the finish line.
@ Dawn, you need to see the glass half full. You will get there just like I will. :flowerforyou:
@skinnyjean, what kind of car!!! :glasses:0 -
I had another exhausting day with class. Today was a 2.35 mile canoe trip up a nearby creek. Of course they had us walk through the woods first so that about a mile as well. After class today, I did not allow myself to go home- because I knew I would not make it to the gym. At the gym, I walked 1 mile then rode for 10 miles on the spin bike and finished with a short .25 mile walk to cool down. Tomorrow, we are canoeing again on a different creek with a picnic afterwards. I am enjoying this class but I will be happy to get some rest. On the bright side, I have a great tan right now and it is the best I have had in years.
Karen- Your day of cleaning sounds exhausting. Enjoy the day at the gym.
Nettie- So happy that you are regaining your energy. Hope all is going well.
Robin- Hi
Kelly- Hope you can use your thumb again and that your appointment went well.
Rainwood- Don't get discouraged. Your body could be changing shapes, losing inches instead of dropping the weight. Over the past year, I have not lost any weight but I have dropped in inches. I did not realize I was dropping in inches since the size change is just starting to happen. Stick with what works. Ease back into running, you will build your endurance back up quickly and you don't want to injure yourself again. Are you doing the mileage challenge? I have you down for 90 miles this month. Let me know either way.
I am looking for updated miles since July 1 from: Queen, Robin B, rain
Sweetmemoir since July 3- Are you still here? lurking please let me know what you want to do.
MzFrizz-Just want to confirm that you did not record any exercise for July 1- July 7. Let me know if I misunderstood your last post with the mileage update.
Have a great night all, I am now turning into a pumpkin. The days events are catching up with me.0 -
I am exhausted and sore, so nothing new here. Sunday it is supposed to rain, which will force me to take a rest, get to the grocery store and make meals and snacks for next week. I have to get back on track with eating.
@Nettie... Nice to see you on here again, and glad that you are feeling more energetic.
@skinny... Jealous that you are getting a new car! I drive 60-70k KM per year, my car currently has 217k KM on it, I need it for work. My last car (same make/model SUV) had 357k KM when I put it in the ditch during a freezing rain storm... Who knows how much farther it would have gone. It had just got new struts too :-( ($$$)
@Laurie... Enjoy that tan! I have a farmers tan on my arms, I'm still too self conscious to wear tanks with my big arms. I wear capris to work(I'm outside) and to hike so have half a calf tan too. It looks ridiculous when I wear shorts so I don't. I keep planning to suntan in the back yard to even it out but never get around to just laying around.

here's a new pic of me and my friend in Punta Cana.
@tanya--I only drive 7 miles each way back and forth to work, so my cars usually fall apart in other ways long before the engines go. My arms are still pretty big, but I am finally comfortable in tanks b/c despite the bat wings, lifting has given my biceps and deltoids some nice definition. I wish the triceps were as easy to build. :ohwell: LOL at your farmers tan. I'm terrible about just lying in the sun to tan--even on vacation, I had to force myself to just lie there and to even things out by flipping over occasionally.
@laurie--I also have the best tan I've had in years due to vacation. Now, I'm trying to keep it from fading by wearing shorts and tanks on my walks with gunner and while doing yard work.
@teresa--I'm pretty set on a 2014 Dodge Challenger. Hoping to finalize it tomorrow.

Thursday Truth: I wish I could be home every day and not work. I had a great day off today. Got lots of laundry and cleaning done. Took the kids to swim lessons and did my training run alongside them as they biked. We stopped at a playground. Made meat pie for dinner with mushroom gravy...I love cooking.

Good morning!
Thank you for the kind words! Even though I'm not putting my all into it, I'm just glad I'm sticking to what I'm doing. Before I would loose a little bit of weight, then get discouraged and gain it all back then some. This time around feels different like I'm actually ready to lose it. Before I would always blame it on something else and say I wasn't ready.
Had a nice walk last night again with Arcadia. I think if I can do my 1.5 mile walk without a problem for a week, I may add onto our distance. Sometimes I feel like I can't make it home (sore feet, legs, breathing heavily, the usual lol), but it's getting easier when we get farther into the walk. SO ready for a kidless weekend which will probably be spent cleaning and setting up my office finally! Bought a house this past January and been so busy with life in general, that my office has been the most neglected room yet to be set up.
For Friday's fitness, I am planning to go to the walking trail both Saturday and Sunday and try to walk the whole thing or at least the majority of it.

Good morning everyone.
Happy National Rainier Cherry Day
It’s National Rainier Cherry Day! And I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate then by sharing the history of this variety and all the effort it takes to grow, harvest, pack, and ship Rainiers cherries to your grocery stores. Every year on July 11th cherry enthusiasts across the U.S. celebrate the Rainier cherry variety. This golden colored cherry with a red blush is a specialty variety that was born right here in Washington State as a cross between – believe it or not – two red cherry varieties!
In 1952, Washington State University researcher Harold Fogle crossed the Bing and Van varieties to create the delicate and exceptionally sweet Rainier cherry variety. Named after the great Mount Rainier in Washington State, growers began planting this variety once it was released for commercial production in 1960. Since then, Rainier has become a popular tree to aid in pollenizing dark-sweet varieties of cherries (Rainier trees are planted between red cherry trees to help attract bees to their flower blossoms in the spring) and is also grown on a large scale because its sweetness is a favorite of many.
It’s no coincidence that July 11th is National Rainier Cherry Day. This time of year marks the peak of Rainier cherry harvest for growers in Washington, which is a big deal considering Rainier cherries are only in season for two months each summer. What makes a Rainier cherry so unique? It’s the dessert, almost candy-like flavor of the fruit, which is made possible from higher Brix, or sugar levels, than their red counterparts.

The weekend is upon us—finally!!!
@Karen~That’s great that your insurance won’t go up by that much, definitely doable! I do that too with new cars, it’s fun to build them into our “dream” car.
@Laurie~This class has you really active, an afternoon of canoeing sounds fun—amazing you made it to the gym after that!
@Dawn~You’ll be amazed at how much and how quickly your endurance improves as you continue walking. Enjoy your kidless weekend!
AFM~Appt with surgeon yesterday went well, its progressing at the rate he expects but wants me to stay in splint for another two-weeks and then re-check it. Still can’t use my thumb—on the bright side, I’m developing a talent for just using my fingers on that hand! Mileage was down yesterday, I think because I opted to just sit in the sauna at my trainer’s studio instead of cardio (still burned around 400 calories though). Dropped my car off this morning to have some work done, of course they call to tell me the water pump is leaking (over $500 to fix) :explode: . I hate car repair bills—this one is waiting, between my surgery bill and other work on car I need to postpone this repair. I need to call around and see if I can have it repaired cheaper anyway.

Have a great weekend!0 -
Good morning everyone. I am able to sit at the computer again I have had my foot elevated almost constantly since Sunday. I took the dogs for a walk Sunday morning to one of our local trails were it is okay to let them off the leash. Well the 60 pound puppy Zeus was wandering around and didnt come when I called so I said bye-bye and started walking away. When I do that he comes barreling to catch up and he did this time as well and right into the back of my left knee. Didnt hurt the knee at all but messed up the ankle really well. It is the same ankle I was talking about having sprained a couple of months ago. The really fun part was we were over half a mile from the trail head so I called my son and daughter and they came to help me. My daughter took the dogs and my truck keys and took them home. My son then tried to help me hobble/hop out but only got about half way before seating me at a bench on the trailside and calling my parents. They brought a pair of crutches down and I managed to make my way the rest of the way out. My mom and I then went to urgent care and they said they didnt do x-rays on the weekend I mean really didnt make much sense so yeah I got to go to Er. No breaks but definitley some of the most dramatic swelling I have ever seen when we got my shoe off:frown: So yep another really bad strain for sure with possible torn ligaments. So much for my fun summer:frown: Good news is the pain has gotten much better through the week and only hurts really bad now when I try to get up and hobble around without the crutches. I refuse to use this as an excuse to just let go though. While my food hasnt been great I have got back in the habit of recording it this week the good bad and ugly. I am also Changing my weight to reflect the six pounds I have gained. I am doing some research to work up at least a 30 min routine of things I can do to get at least a light workout in until I can be on my feet again. The doc said I probably wont be doing any significant dog walking for a couple months. Well all things must be endured and then overcome so time to adapt and keep moving forward
Karen I love the new pic. It sounds like you had a great time on vacation. My husband wants me to plan a short vacation for the two of us when he is able to come home again.
Kaye so sorry to hear you ended your vacation with pneumonia. I had that a couple of years ago. No fun.I am happy to hear you are starting to feel better.
Laurie it sounds like you are keeping very busy this summer. That class sounds like a lot of fun in the great outdoors.
Tom this is my favorite day by far. I LOVE Rainier cherries. I wait all year for the yakima cherries to start appearing in the stores. I got some from the source this year since we were on that side of the mountains for fil b-day party.
Well as always I hope everyone has a great day and dont forget to do something just for you because you are important too.:flowerforyou: :drinker: :drinker:0 -
Kelly- That's too weird that you're having a water pump problem with your car. My mom just called yesterday and told me one of their vehicles needed a water pump repair! It's going to cost her $200-$300...so yeah, definitely expensive! Hope you can find someone cheaper to fix yours!
Tammy- You and your ankle! What a bummer summer for you now. Hope someone else can take the dogs out walking for you! When you figure out your workout routine, I bet it will have a lot of upper body stuff....maybe this is the summer when you get arms of steel?
Tom- We don't get Rainier cherries around here....mostly red varieties, and mostly from Door County. My son (age 5) just ate a handful last night. He's not perfected the pit spit and neat cherry eating yet....I sent him to wash up before he touched anything, and he said, "Oh yeah! Look! My hands look bloody! Coooool!" Yeesh.
Dawn- You've got this! Like Tom's Aesop quote: Little by Little! Every day and with each walk, it will get easier and your endurance will build. Have fun cleaning without the kids (that's my kind of fun:happy: )!
AFM- Fridays during my half marathon training are rest days, so no fitness for me today. I will probably go for a nice long bike ride by myself tomorrow morning, and then the afternoon will be spent at a friend's house for their son's birthday party. I guess she plans on us all going to a local pool afterwards, so we'll see...maybe I'll be getting some swimming in tomorrow as well. Sunday is my long run day, so I'll be out running.
Tonight we're having a carrot-lentil casserole that I'm making in the slow cooker...I went home on my lunch hour to check on it and turn down the temperature and it smells wonderful! Then, after dinner, we're going to my sister's for their montly game night....which will likely include snacks. I usually am too busy playing board games to snack too much. My sister does a good thing. She usually puts all the snacks out in the pool room while we all play board games in the rec room. So, you have to walk into another room to nosh.
Have a good weekend, everyone!:drinker:0 -

Finally seeing the scale moving downward again... I've lost 2 of the 4 lbs I gained on vacation last month. Woot! It can be attributed to all the exercise I'm doing, despite the bad diet.
