FYI Cheesecake Factory Lunch Portion Cobb Salad is around 590 calories, BUT I'd be impressed if you could eat it all. Maybe at my absolute hungriest state ever I could. So, there ya go, lunch for around 280 cals. Also, if you order the dressing on the side and don't let them put it on, it saves you even more calories.
I think Ranch dressing is my biggest :noway: moment. Several hundred calories in a TBSP. Yipes!0 -
Soda, I used to drink like a 2 liter a day.. quit cold turkey 2 months ago. Love it, but its so bad for you!
Soda (the sugar sweetened kind) is the nemesis of more folks that I ever realized. It's amazing how many of my clients are addicted to the stuff. And for many of them, cutting out this ONE thing permitted them to lose that extra 15 pounds they were packing around.
One of my clients: only ONE can of Dr. Pepper a day. 150 x 365 days a year = 54,750 calories. Divide that by 3500 calories per pound of fat, and that's 15.6 pounds. Voila! She cut that out, swapping the Dr. Pepper for water, and she dropped the entire 15 pounds in just over three months (she was dieting and exercising as well). She was so surprised that even though she was eating "just right" (and she was, I viewed her food diaries), that one extra Dr. Pepper per day, was the devil behind that extra fifteen pounds. Problem solved!0 -
Another thing that irritates me is the amount of sodium that is put into foods! YIKES
Especially if it's labeled "low fat"! Low Fat items should come with a warning label about the extra sodium. Geesh!
I'm with you on that one. I shreik and throw things back on the shelf if it is too high, which is apparently amusing to those that ever come with in the grocery store. If my husband happens to look first, he will tell me "Don't look.. its gonna hurt your feelings" lol0 -
Girl Scout Cookies..my fav. has 140 calories and 8 grams of fat for two cookies!! Those sweet little girls are nothing but crack dealers in cute uniforms that stand in front of grocery stores instead of corners slangin'0

ROAST PORK.
Honestly, I had some the other day and thought I'd had a decent amount (75g or so). For that little amount, it was around 400 calories!!0 -
Dayquil: 70 calories per dose
This just really gets me! Never would have even thought about this!
I'm actually a little ticked at myself for counting it in my calories for the day. I definitely wasn't up to exercising when I was taking four doses a day.0 -
Pringles ... they seem so lightweight and inoffensive. Some were placed on my plate with my tuna sandwich (I asked for no butter and minimal mayo) yesterday at a cafe I frequent. I thought, "it's only six, what's the harm?" But I wasn't really hungry after finishing the sandwich, so I asked to see the can for the calorie content. Over 10 calories per Pringle! That would have been nearly 70 calories glibly munched just because they were there. Thanks to MFP I was able to say, "No thank you," and I didn't even miss them.0

Hardee's chicken biscuit was a shock to me!! 620 cal, 1560 sodium!!!!.. and the Sodium is what kills me. It's amazing how much sodium is in all processed foods. Unbelievable!!0
-
Starbucks makes the frappocinos LITE so you can get a grande for only 140 calories Well worth it if you're craving one !!0

I have learned REALLY fast that if what you want to eat have certian words (scampi, fried, alfredo are a few I can think of off the top of my head) then those are the ones to avoid and the ones with higher calorie and fat content. That said I now choose where I'm going to eat based on MFP before I walk out my door lol. Tod
Shockers for me (but I Really shouldnt have been shocked)
McRib 500 calories! FOR ONE SANDWICH and I used to eat 2 of these in one sitting!
Mc Donalds Breakfast Sandwich 300 Calories (this is the one with canadian bacon) I make one for about 75 cals lighter!
Here is something REALLY intresting
Bob Evans Grilled Salmon w/plain baked potato and Broccli 481 Cals
Bob Evans Potato Crusted Flounder w/plain baked potato and Broccli 415 Cals How is something that is OBVIOUSLY pan fried with a potato crust fewer cals then something grilled?0 -
Shamrock Shakes from McDonald's. Ughhhh.
I LOVE them, but there are 550 calories in a 16 oz. one.0 -
PEANUT BUTTER.... crazy amount of calories whenever you could have PB2: the best thing ever invented. AND it's deliiiiiiiiiicious
Where do you get PB2? I have never heard of it.0 -
This site will open your eyes to just how many calories are in certain things. I was shocked at the calories in salad dressing! My favorite had 180 calories in 3 tablespoons!! And I used way more than that! The great thing is, you learn as you go along. You see how many calories is in something and then next time you can make a healthier choice. Its good to know whats in you are eating...great job being calorie conscious.
I learned a great way to dress your salad without so many calories. For a medium sized salad use 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar and 1 tbsp cirtus juice of your choice. I have been hooked on using lemon juice lately. It is so tasty and so few calories. I even use it with chicken sometimes as a marinade.0 -
Queso and chips at a mexican resturant. I looked it up once and it was like over 2000 calories. -silent sob-
OMG! Thats the reason I go, lol. In fact we are going for my daughters bday this friday!0 -
rice and/or pasta - and you can forget drowning them in butter! :brokenheart:
I know what you mean......I miss pasta so much :sad:0 -

Salmon has 1/3 more calories than flounder
depending on the serving size, those calories would more than add up and make up for it.0 -
Nutella! Man that stuff is just pure evil. I could eat it alone straight from the jar... Yikes!0
-
The Pork Salad with EVERYTHING from Cafe Rio!! It's 1160 cals. That's just CRAZY!!! But oh soo good!!0
-
I really loved Perkins' Chicken Crisp Melt... as a matter of fact, I'm salivating just thinking about it.... oh so yummy w/bacon, pepper Jack cheese, honey mustard and a side of fries.... 1400+ calories.... :noway:0

What other calorie counts just blow your mind?
EVERYTHING!
Pasta & Rice was an eye opener. Bread also, just by making a small change to the bread I buy has helped my half my calorie intake for a sandwich.
Pizza is a shocker too - an average thin base frozen pizza is nearly 1000 calories, I used to eat them for fun!
I think it should be illegal to sell some things! In the Asda [Walmart] you can't even get to the Fruit & Veg aisle without walking passed a huge box (24 or 36 individual bags) of Walkers crisps [Leys chips] for £3-£4. It should be outlawed.0 -
I absolutely love salad. It's great for my calorie count. Unfortunately, the ranch I love to put on it is is not.0
-
What is PB2?0
-
Caramel Frappe from McDonalds
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm the best!!!!0 -
All food in the restaurants is ridiculous. Pull you your favorite restaraunt and pull up their nutritional menu...You will be mortified at the calories and fat and sodium that most of the food has. Very little good food choices...unless it is specifically weight watchers menu, or low cal...best thing to do..cook at home0
-
I'm getting SOOOO HUNGRY reading this!0
-
I have to ask - what is PB2? I love PB and cry everytime I measure out one Tbsp.0
-
Also, Cheesecake factory...I know its bad, so the past 2 times I've gone, I've just ordered the thai lettuce wraps as a meal (they are normally an appetizer to share)...I'm thinking, Oh its lettuce, grlled chicken, some noodles and veggies can't be bad...WRONG...its like 1500 calories...i'm assuming they infuse it with either lard, butter, magic, or both. haha.

(the above is a quote that doesn't seem to have 'quoted' properly)
Yes, seriously, what *do* they do to it to make it so high in calories? I keep reading on here about the calories in a restaurant salad....what is it that makes them so high?0 -
Swiss chalet fries:(0

Calorie counts that have LITERALLY made me sick to my stomache:
Cinnabon - Regular Caramel Pecanbun - 1,110 calories. I used to get one of these for breakfast on work days. Sometimes I'd eat TWO. No one told me I was eating my calories for the entire day AND THEN SOME.
Cold Stone Creamery - Anything that isn't a 'smoothie' in 'like it' size. No, seriously. Their 'Sinless Shakes'? Not one under 490 calories. Want a Shake in 'like it' [their smallest size]? You'll be forking over a MINIMUM of 1,000 calories [Savory Strawberry]
Little Ceaser's Pepperoni Pizza ... 280 calories a slice. Not bad .... until you consider that I used to eat 4 slices in a sitting. 1,120 calories there. Did that ONCE after I started my diet, thinking that Pizza couldn't POSSIBLY be too high in calories [okay, I was delusional] I won't eat there now.0 -
Rice and pasta aren't that bad, really, when you think about it. Sure they are calorie intensive, but rice has little to NO fat. Same thing goes for wheat pasta.
If you really want something good, try potato gnocchi...1 cup goes great with a meat, some sauce, onions and peppers. Then you're only looking at like 350 calories for a meal. And it's very filling.0
