If eating trash makes us sick, why do we keep eating it?

Vinegar and salt also makes a great cleaning product. Someone had better call the chip companies and let them know about the toxins.0

I am however encouraging everyone to eat less junk and more nutrient dense food, that's all. I, personally, don't want anything in my body that is used to remove paint when I have all the macro and micro nutrients available to me through natural and unprocessed foods.
Good luck all. I wish you guys the best. And don't say I'm running, I've spent a good part of my day debating with you guys. I'm tired now and need to get some stuff done!
Good lawdy. You are being corrected and have been again and again in this thread. You have not supported a single thing you have asserted and when you finally do post 'proof' it is from a biased source and does not even support your assertions, let alone being in any way shape or form correct. Just stop!
Also, as I noted earlier, you better avoid salt, lemon juice and vinegar while you are about it.1 -

If they had funny sounding chemical names that would become toxic
"In February 2011, during the campaign of the Finnish parliamentary election, a voting advice application asked the candidates whether the availability of "hydric acid also known as dihydrogen monoxide" should be restricted. 49% of the candidates answered in favor of the restriction."
I chuckled.0 -

One can use bananas to whiten teeth. Lemons polish some metals like a champ. Penicillin is a fungus. Orange peel makes a great cleaner. Mayo removes water stains from wood. Cucumbers remove wrinkles. Cayenne pepper on the floorboards deters ants. Just because something has an alternative use does not make it toxic.
Did not know that about mayo. I suppose I can take some useful knowledge out of this thread after all.

If you take all the sodium bicarbonate out of your body, you will die. There is a very delicate acid/base balance in the body and sodium bicarbonate is used to keep the base balance. If your body becomes too acidic - whoops! There you go....0 -
You've seen what happens when baking soda hits vinegar, just imagine what happens when it hits your stomach acid. You're all gonna die.

I hit page 2, then 3, and then the KFC, and had to wait until page 12 for the South Park reference. All the way to 12? I don't understand why that took so long for that reference to pop up.
Useful knowledge gained - eat things with baking soda (cookies) will keep me alive (yay, but I didn't really need any reason to eat them, I like them), and mayo gets water stains out of wood.0 -
At first I was all like this:

How did this reach 18 pages in like 8 hours and why are people now bitching about baking soda? what?
Because you should really all be talking about cornstarch instead.

I ask my dog this exact same question verbatim whenever she eats some garbage and then invariably barfs it up the carpet a few hours later.
I however, do not eat trash. I eat food.
Also, just from skimming the first few and last few pages of this thread (just like how I completed high school book reports), I think I have bingo, and I also learned that baking soda is toxic? As the Swedish Chef would say, Wurt Da Furk.
Like seriously, what is this?!
Because it can be used for cleaning items, it's toxic? Better stay away from dihydrogen monoxide then. They call it The Universal Solvent!
You won't be laughing after you read THIS! dhmo.org/0 -
Baking soda is a toxin!!! ROFLOL!!!!0

Then why are so many people sick, obese, dying, not knowing where to turn? If we are free indeed to make our own choices, perhaps it does have something to do with manipulation and addiction from the manufacturers to consumers because why aren't we choosing better quality and fresher foods then? Based on statistics, we are more unhealthy as a culture than we are healthy and thriving.
Not to you specifically but I think we really need to be open to people trying to make a better world by offering ideas, information and personal experience that has worked for them in many ways. Sometimes, we need to look beyond the scientic reasoning and explaining and just embrace the fact that fresh fruits and veggies are far more helpful to us vs harmful, like 90% of what's in a typical grocery store. The proof is in the pudding.
And thank you the compliment on my weight loss, as that's how I'm taking it.
Wait...Is that you foodbabe.com/?

If it's not toxic, then what do you say it is? Because to me, I've watched people (myself and husband included) get very sick and unproductive to society when they eat this food on a regular basis. I've also watched how mostly abstaining from it can heal you in many ways.
The OP asked how to combat the cravings for junk food and asked why it makes him feel the way he does. I simply answered his question. He can take the idea of giving up junk food and watch how his health immaculately improves or he can not. Same to all of you. I'm not overreacting, name calling or bashing on anyone else because they are defending mc Donalds and kfc and stating that they cured heart disease by eating junk, while I believe, being serious.
I'd call it food.... Just because it's something "to you" doesn't mean it's fact. Your trying to pass off anecdotal evidence as fact and went from "I'm educated on the subject" to really not being what you claim.0 -

Because some can. I don't think you can cite anomalies and then extrapolate them out to include everyone. ie.. a generalization. It's like saying if that guy at 5'9", 150lbs trains and benches 225lbs for 5 reps, why can't I if I'm the same height / weight and training programs
Thanks for proving my point.0 -

Personally myself, I've had McDonald's about once a week since I was 8, so for over 40 years now. Not saying that it's the "best" choice, but guessing that people will be sick and ill because they eat processed foods would be just an opinion at best.

According to that math, I am surprised I am still around!

I bet both of you also consumed baking soda. You two must be walking miracles.

Well candies/junk food are specifically designed and marketed to make you want to eat and buy more so I think they can be blamed a little bit. There is a lot of money spent on research and development by companies to investigate way to make their products more morish.
I'm not trying to negate personal responsibilty completely but it's helpful to be aware of the above point. In the end you need to figure out what works for you. It might be avoiding certain foods completely, only buying single serve packages, only eating them in the presence of others, keeping them out of the house, freezing them, dividing them up into single servings yourself, teaching yourself to eat them mindfully or any number of strategies.0 -
