How many pounds do you have to lose to drop a pants size? I know it will vary from person to person....just curious!

Not sure really. I've lost 30 now and was 13/14 now got into a 7/8!8

10-15 for me.1

About 10 pounds per size for me.1

No idea. I'm 5'3.5. I started at 170 lbs in size 16 jeans and because I knew I wanted to at least lose 40 lbs, didn't want to invest in jeans until I was closer to goal. At about 130 lbs I was a size 6 and now at 120 lbs I'm around 0-2 depending on the brand10

Not sure either. I've lost 22lbs. Went from a size 12-14 to a size 81

10 for me. I'm 5'2"
Although, it depends if they were fitting in the first place, ;-)

Usually 10lb, but when I hit maintenance, in the next year I went down 2 sizes without losing more weight. I'm 5'3". Size 10 to size 4. 8 at goal, 4 current.6

About 10.1

Thanks for the input! I was just curious because it takes me about 20# which seemed like alot (im pretty proportional top and bottom...not a pear or apple) to go down a size. Im currently 218 and in a size 16 (loose but 14's are tight).2

The less you have to lose, the more significant of a difference in jean size you'll see with less weight loss. I mean, it will depend on genetics on how fat loss is distributed but it seems that way.2

I'm working on going from a 14 to a 12. 9 lbs is not enough. I'm 5" 6""2

I honestly have not noticed. I'll have to keep an eye on that.0

I'm 5'6", 167, and can fit into everything from a 12-16. I can zip up the only 10s I have, but it's pretty bulgy.
Someone once posted a link to a site where they had pics of women along with their weights and sizes. I'd like to see that again to compare my new weight.5 -
I've just started my journey, lost 9 lbs but no change in clothes. I guess it's too early to tell...1

The bigger you are the more pounds between sizes. My first size was a 26, it took 40 lbs to go down to a 22,(20 lbs per size), and continued 40 lbs to an 18. It's looking like 15 to get to the next size and after that it's 15 pounds per size until I'm down to a 10, then it's 10 pounds per size for me, or at least, that's what it was on the way up.
I'm 5'6 and weighing 225.8 right now, wearing an 18 and they are getting looser.8 -
10-15 now. When I started and was a 24/26, it was a lot more pounds off before I got into 22. Then another good amount of weight had to go before size 20. Eighteen arrived faster than 20 and 16 and 14 each required fewer pounds, yet.
They build a lot more room into the asp, butt and thighs in the bigger sizes than they do in the smaller ones and most have elastic waists, so they stay up until you're really into the next size.
My size 14s started feeling more roomy about two weeks after I got them.
When you lose a lot, you go through a LOT of clothes. I buy some new-new and some on eBay. I also buy things I really like in my size and then next one down. I'm tired of getting rid of shirts I love.5 -

I don't know how tall you are, but I also needed to lose 70 pounds (I've lost 33) and at about 15 pounds was when the 14s started to fit again.0 -

It depends on your starting weight and how you carry it. There's more of a difference between the larger sizes I think.
Between size 12 and size 10 was something like 20 lbs for me (I lose from the top down so it took awhile). But the difference between 10 and 8 was only 10 lbs. The difference between a size 6 and a size 4 was 0 lbs, just a year of lifting.1 -
At 85 lbs lost, I have only lost 4 sizes. It's like layers on an onion. The smaller you get the fewer pounds between sizes.6

I am 5'11. I had lost 50. In the beginning it took about 15 pounds to drop a size. But when all was said and done , it was 5 sizes in 50. So pretty consistent with what others have been saying. I am up about 15 pounds and that is one size for me going the other way (1

I'm a guy but was interesting to read this anyway to see how much of this applied. The consensus from most of the comments seems to be "10 lbs or less per size" when nearer your optimum weight and "20-25 lbs or more per size" when you're significantly overweight. This seems to be right for me (not sure if it will be so for all men). I've lost 10 kg (22 lbs) so far and yet not dropped one waist size (my 42" waist pants now fit loosely but the 40" waist ones are still a bit snug) so must be that I carry more weight around the waist, which is typical for males I guess.
All the best to everyone on your respective journeys6 -
I'm with you- took 25 lbs to drop that first size. I'm hoping that the next comes sooner...0

It took approximately 20 lbs for my clothes to become too loose to wear. From past experience, from here on downward, every 10 lbs.0

I concur with previous statements that the larger you are, the more weight you need to lose to drop a size. It varies per person, but when I lost a lot of weight once before I had to lose about 10% of my weight to drop a size. I was quite large, 340 pounds and a size 30/32, and I had to drop 30-40 pounds before I moved down to a 26/28. I never did lose all of the weight--I got down to a size 18 at 240 pounds-- but I remember at that point it was closer to 20-25 pounds to drop a size.2

Modelmydiet is another good site. I don't think I look as good as the Model My Diet girl, but when I poke in other people's info, it looks pretty close!!
I love going there, seeing how I looked, how it look now, what it will look like and what I would look like if I could reach my dream goal.1 -
Start:160, 5'4", pear-shape, size 10 jeans
Size 6 jeans after almost 5 months, 22 pounds down (never bought 8s) I had been starting to think I'd never go down a size
Size 4 jeans six months after starting, 27 pounds down
Size 0 jeans in same brand/style as all of the above jeans, about 8 months after starting, down 35 pounds total
Size 0 in a couple of other brands I've tried, about 10 months after starting, 38 pounds down total
I am very small-framed, with very narrow hip bones. There's actually still quite a bit of fat I'd like to lose on my upper thighs, which I think will size me out of some brands.
