Unexpected results of weight loss

This is such a great thread! I totally agree with the side sleeping knee thing! And the best day was getting my wedding ring resized because it flew off when I was clapping the day before.4

I used to be a UK size 8 and around 8/9 stone. I always was all the way through my life. Then I stopped smoking, hit 40 and my weight got to what it is now (at aged 45) and that is 15 stone.
Reading all of these posts takes me back to a time when I could feel my knees and ankles rubbing togyher, my thighs had a gap between them, I got so cold all the time, I used to get sores on my spine where my bra catch used to run, and I shudder to think of the pain I used to feel when I bumped into work counters and my hip bones were the first thing that hit and took the full force of my clumsyness!
Oh how I long to get back to that pain!!! Fat better than what I have now with my thighs rubbing together, not being able to see my toes, having to have my rings cut off my fingers as they got too fat.... The list goes on.
One day (soon I hope!) I will be back to my pre-40 year old weight and I too shall be having my knee caps rubbing together again in bed!!!!
Thank you all for your posts, they are inspiring. I am more determined than ever to get back to what I used to be as your posts have reminded me of what I used to be and what I can be again!!
Feel free to add me and support each other.

One of the first things I noticed was the fact I could jump up from being on the floor so easy. I shocked my self lol. I do animal rescue. We take cats and dogs from the shelters where they euthanize if they are not adopted. We get them vetted, spayed and neutered and socialized and place them with new forever families that will love them and cherish them like they should be. I have worked in rescue for the past 17 years. We get to keep some of our cats at a local pet supply store so the public can see them. I was there one day and one of the cats escaped in the store. He of course climbed under one of the shelves. Without thinking I plopped down on the floor and laid on my belly crawled under the shelf and pulled the protesting cat out lol. I then just popped up on my feet like it was nothing. I was thinking WOW this feels great. Prior to losing any weight It would have taken a backhoe to get me on my feet.
The 2nd thing I noticed is what the op mentioned about your brain not catching up to the fact you have lost weight. I still find myself trying to buy clothes way to big. It will take some getting used to that is for sure.
My intimate relationship with my husband has improved tremendously much to his advantage and mine of course. It is nice to not feel like an eighty year old woman verses my actual age. It was an unexpected benefit for me. I have not felt normal since I was in my twenties.5 -
Smaller pockets, I've never been a bag girl, I shove everything in my pockets but I now have a bag as my pockets now don't hold anything they are so tiny6

The cuts in my arms, legs, and stomach from muscle gain. I'll catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror when I'm working out and I see the muscle I'm using. It's an awesome feeling.
YES! My favorite!
I had kind of a lightbulb moment the other day. As I was lifting a 50-pound bag of horse feed out of a barrel, I realized that I was lifting the same amount of weight I had lost. It felt good knowing that I wasn't carrying all that extra weight around all day every day anymore!

These are so great! Really enjoying reading about the perks of weight loss!0

I'm nowhere near done, but here's one I've noticed the last few days. I have one of those retractable things that's supposed to clip on your belt with your company building access card. Until recently I always had to carry it in my pocket because there was too much belly hanging over the belt to comfortably clip the thing on. The last few days I have been able to clip it on due to the fact that the belly overhang is not quite as great any more.12

That is a fantastic victory!! And I'm sure there are many more to come. Great work!!

Definitely noticed an increased testosterone.0

I am just starting my journey and this thread is so inspiring. My number one goal is to be able to bend over and tie my shoes without having to take the risk of losing consciousness!5

I never expected to inspire others to start working on their health as well. It is very humbling.2

This is incredibly tmi, and I debated whether I should post it or not. When I started my weight loss I had 40 lbs to lose. I have lost 13lbs to date. My clothes fit the same, I'm still in a size 16 pant, and my shirts still fit the same. Needless to say, I've been pretty disappointed to not see any physical changes. However, the other day when I was drying off I noticed a few changes in my lady parts. Who knew that would be the first place to lose fat?!? And I actually have indents on the inside of my thighs!
The only other difference noticed is last night when I was laying in bed hubby put his hand on my thigh just below my hips, and felt a bone. I'm guessing it's the lower part of my pelvis or something? He's never felt that before.
Otherwise, no one has noticed any changes in me. So these are the only two I have to celebrate right now lol.4 -
Oh, and yesterday I was feeling really blah, I've had bronchitis for the last 2.5 weeks, and am now developing a cold too. So I ate 3 bowls of soup. Something I could (and would) do quite easily in the past. My stomach physically hurt after, so I've learned my lesson there! Tea will now be my go-to when I want to comfort-fill my belly.4

I recently went to Old Navy cause my size 16 jeans were falling off of me. I tried on a size 14 and thought that they had changed the cut of the jeans cause they didn't fit either. A friend told me to try another size and to my utter surprise the size 12 jeans fit absolutely perfectly! I literally cried out in surprise! They probably thought I was crazy yelling in the dressing room- I don't care- I am happy!!14

Just had a new thought on this today. For the necklaces that are somewhat adjustable, I used to wear every single necklace at the very last hole in the chain. Now, some of them are hanging way too low, so I have to adjust them so they are shorter! Kind of nice to have choices!8

Running felt a lot better physically when I was at my lowest weight. Now that I gained some weight back the jiggle just annoys the crap out of me. Good reason to get back to where I was. Before that, I had no idea how irritating it is, and I'm glad I didn't because I might have quit running.3

I hope this won't be an inappropriate reply but I guess we're all adults her: I officially announce I can now see my whole penis. I'm sure some men here know how gratifying that feeling is....8

The change in the smell of my body odor was unexpected. It makes sense to me because of the change in my diet but it initially surprised me.
How strangers seem to be just in general warmer and nicer, especially men. That definitely happened sooner than expected.
That I can physically feel the changes in my body, see the number on the scale going down, and am even buying smaller sized clothes, yet when I look in the mirror I don't see much of a change.

I'm just LOVING this thread. It's so positive!
I tried on a pair of trousers this morning that I didn't think would fit... and now I am wishing I had brought a belt to work! So I understand about the brain not catching up, especially when the scale isn't moving!2 -
I absolutely loved reading all of these. Can't wait to be able to add my own to this list. Very inspirational. Thanks.3

With 20lbs down I feel like I have more energy, and I enjoy feeling better and a stronger immune system. The rest of my family is sick with the flu and I have yet to get sick.

I announced the same thing to my wife recently. She remained unimpressed....
Haha, brilliant.

That will come in time. Your perception will eventually catch up.
I remember when I bought my first pair of non-plus size jeans, after working my way down through the plus sizes as I lost weight. I would pull them out of the dryer and wonder, "whose jeans are these?"
Now that those jeans are loose (although straight out of the dryer they fit for a while since they have a high spandex percentage) and I'm down 2 more sizes, those jeans no longer look small to me. Actually the size 12s I'm wearing now don't really look small. My brain is gradually adjusting to the weight loss. I have some size 8s I bought at thrift stores waiting for me in my closet and those do look small. But, I'll get there and I'm sure at some point they will look right to me.
I'm very pleased to have dropped many sizes, but for a humbling reality check I sometimes try on the jeans I have picked up in the next size down. Don't want to get too sure of myself.
For my current unexpected result: I am not as critical of myself in mirrors now, which is very nice. For many years I didn't feel that way.

I didn't realize I would be speechless when someone commented on the chocolate cake I was eating for lunch, questioning how I can lose weight and eat cake. I guess when I weighed more, I was lucky that everyone was polite enough to keep their comments to themselves.
I was surprised how much faster I'm moving down in sizes as I'm getting closer to my goal. It seems that a 5 pound difference is a lot more noticeable when I'm 150 lbs than when I'm 220 lbs.
My natural face shape has surprised me. I've been overweight since I was little and I always thought it was oval under my chubby cheeks, but it turns out that I have a really strong jawline. My eyes also look a lot bigger.
My nails are much stronger now that my diet is better.
I hate feeling my heartbeat in my stomach. I didn't know that would happen.
My sitting posture has changed because my butt doesn't force my lower back into such a weird angle.
I've also been surprised that losing weight doesn't make me less self-conscious about the parts of my body I disliked when I was obese.6 -
My legs have some bad *kitten* cuts and my cleavage is actually sexy I love to wear dresses now!2
-
I posted this as an NSV but it deserves a spot here as well, I can now scratch my entire back myself, I've lost enough that I can reach the whole thing! (Try it)12

In the last two weeks I have really begun to notice things like my hip bones especially if the cat or dog curls up on them.
I have also been shocked a few times when stretching or scratching my back or arms to feel how solid the muscles are becoming. Seriously rock solid.3
