As others have said, calories. That's really it. Cutting out certain foods is not necessary. I haven't cut out any foods that I enjoy. Not even the refined carbs and sugar that some seem to think are so evil. I've lost 47 pounds and gotten my BMI down to 21.6 with no restrictions other than CICO. Still seeing consistent losses too. I have at least one treat every day. I've learned how to make it fit into my calorie goals, and eating what I want is a sustainable plan for me. I ate Pop Tarts after dinner tonight. I don't feel the least bit guilty either.
"Evil"?
Hyperbole much?
I have a treat every day as well.
But you probably couldn't pay me to eat a pop tart.0 -
I cut out excuses, excess calories, ignorance, and victimization.0

It's been years since I've had a pop tart, though I used to love them. I go through these strange phases. For example, for years I would not eat mayonnaise because I just didn't like it anymore. Recently, I started eating it again and my taste has come back.
Maybe I will try a pop tart again and see if still like them.0 -

If you like these foods, why not learn to eat them in moderation?0 -

Especially dihydrogen monoxide. If you want to bathe yourself in that nastiness, go right ahead.
What is dihydrogen monoxide and which foods is it found in?

No, it's not. But apparently many on here think it is, since they do it regularly.0 -

Except maybe the corn dogs... those things are just weird. Actually they are delicious but at the same time so gross.0 -
As others have said excess calories and excuses. Moderation has been key for me, and seeing all food for what it is...just food. You control the food and the portions, not the other way around. Don't let the food control you. Once you realize all of this, life is so much easier.

yup. I just realized how much control influences this entire thing; I switched from being controlled by exercise and diet to me controlling them when I joined MFP, and didn't realize that power switch until like... yesterday haha. If you're gonna blame external forces on your experiences (food, family, holidays, etc) then you're really not taking control of your own weight loss/management experience.0 -

First thing you've ever post that I agree with. Salty, squeaky, slippery heaven.
Wait, so you two are going to be BFFs now??
