WOW! I just got started yesterday and the weight I use has nothing to do with strong so far. What weights did you guys start with for the different basic exercises?

I just started, but I'm doing Stronglifts 5x5. It has you start with an empty bar and slowly increase the weight.

I started Stronglifts in Feb and am progressing with everything...except the stupid overhead press. Completed 85 lbs for squat today! I'm surprised by my progress every single workout, haha. My shape has changed dramatically since starting.

Love this thread! This is my first post, but I've been lurking for a while ;)
I was one of those girls that was scared of lifting because I didn't want to be bulky. I've always worked out, but just did cardio and abs. After years of staying the same, I finally decided to switch it up. I read enough info about lifting to be convinced that I wouldn't look like a man!
I started Stronglifts in Jan of this year, and I love working out in the "big boy section" haha
I have a few comparison pics from Jan and now. I can't see too much of a change, but I was in ok shape to start with. I can definitely tell my core is stronger, and my booty has lifted.
Good luck to anyone starting out!

I hope these pictures post right haha it was complicated!!

You weigh exactly the same, but look so much slimmer..........Fab work!!

    gorgeous.

    Strong but still feminine

Strong women is not a new concept. Women have always been strong since time began.... it seems that people forget that now....

there is a difference between a strong man and a strong woman though ... and this shows that difference. You can be strong and be female at the same time.

Women should be strong, they are naturally strong... they are made to carry, give birth to and protect life..... they are capable of carrying, lifting, shouldering and fighting if the need arises but they should still have a hint of vulnerability and softness.... this girls speaks all of that to me.....

    Strong... yes

Bulky man muscles and gangster jaw  no

    Good job

    Beautiful

Pretty sure this is what we are tying to show. You won't get "bulky man muscles and a gangster jaw" from lifting weights.
    Wow. You look amazing

I'm still definitely a work in progress but here goes.

I started lifting in July 2014 after 5 months of running and bodyweight training. In January 2015 I started Strong Curves, primarily because I wanted to find a squat style that worked for me. I'd had a lot of trouble with back squats and liked SC because it would have me trying front squats, Zerchers, etc. I ended up liking those variations plus all of the lower body work.

Upper left - June 2014/158 lbs. I was down from 202.5 here and had been running and doing bodyweight training for just under 4 months. Chicken legs and noodle arms at this point.

Middle - December 2014/150 lbs. I had been lifting for 5 months, first doing a program devised by a personal trainer, then All Pro's.

Lower left and far right - March and April 2015/150 lbs. Just finished SC. Improvements in quads, calves, bum. Stomach is still the bane of my existence.

I don't know anything about lifting weights at all. Can anyone explain to me how many days a week and how long a session last? How do you start? Do you need help/assistance? I don't plan lifting now because I don't have a car at the moment and my nearest gym is miles away, but I'll probably join a gym in two - three months time.

I do stronglift5x5.com all your questions will be answered on that site along with videos and an app you can download. I lost 17.5 inches, I now do almost no cardio compared to 25 hours before. I eat like a horse. I went from a 10-11 to 5-6. I did gain 4 lbs but I'm still shrinking and tightening.

So 5 x 5 repetitions approx 45 minutes 3 times a week. The results are so amazing. That's the type of body that I want to look like.
