What nobody tells you about losing weight

A little over a year ago, I had lost about 40 pounds (halfway through my journey) and at our office Christmas party, a male co-worker made a comment about my improved physique. It wasn't inappropriate or lewd, and I know it was meant as encouragement, but it completely derailed me - to the the tune of gaining back about 15 pounds in a matter of weeks! Being mentally and emotionally prepared is difficult, but it is important and necessary for success.

Yes! When I lost 40 pounds a couple of years ago, people asked how I did it, and I could tell by their expressions they were hoping to hear me say, "ABC Diet", or "XYZ pill" or surgery. When you say, "I stopped eating crap and got off my couch and onto a bicycle", you get the stink-eye.

I just started my journey.... but then again, I only had a bit to lose. Glad I caught that early. Always been chubby, not that much overweight however. It was starting to get worse.... lost confidence.... so I lost weight. 15 down, 17 to go! Looking forward to being cold! I sweat constantly. My house is only 75!5

Sometimes you can lose lots of weight and still be wearing the same clothing. I had to trade in my shoes because they were too big, but my clothing is just kind of loose on me now. In a way it is good because I haven't had to spend extra money on it yet, but it is also bad because I'm still wearing the same old tents.
I had to quote myself because I has an epiphany earlier. I went shopping and saw something I liked so I went to try it on. In the dressing room before I took off my clothing I caught sight of myself in the mirror and I really looked at myself. My clothing looks massive. My jeans look like I'm wearing a sag so deep that if you could see the top of my jeans (you can't, huge shirt) you'd be able to see my underwear. I knew my clothing was a little loose, but I seriously did not notice they were that big. These were the jeans I couldn't fit into before. So, I am amending my earlier statement. You can lose weight and still be wearing the same clothing, but maybe pay better attention to how your clothing is actually fitting versus how you think it is fitting.
I ended up buying clothing that is several sizes smaller and dancing out of the changing room much to the amusement of the attendant.
That is awesome, congratulations!
Similar to this is when I go try on clothes and have to go back for a smaller size....It always looks way to small to fit me and then is too big. I think I was used to hiding in oversized clothes.
I went shopping with my friend who had lost 50 pounds, to help her pick out a few things for a special event. I watched as she picked up the same size she'd always worn, and I told her, "those are going to be too big for you." Of course, I was right because I can see her as she actually looks, not as she has seen herself for years. She wound up with a dress two sizes smaller than the first one she tried.6 -
Just started my journey a month ago. I lost ten pounds and today my pants were loose and they fell down while I chased after my giggling toddler. He really liked watching me use the power drill to put new holes in my favorite belt.30

In 3 MONTHS my husband's Triglycerides have dropped almost 300 points
His blood sugar results are normal
He is on the lowest possible dose of medication for both....but if he keeps going he won't be
In 3 WEEKS I've gone from stage 1 Hypertension to prehypertension
No medication. It made me sick.
A long life is so much better than a package of cookies from Costco.35 -

After losing 130 lbs over the past 14 months I find this the hardest thing. I find that I want to be there for anyone who wants to make a change but I am much less tolerant of those who are all talk and no action. It took me decades to decide to make a change and I want everyone to know that I wish I could have seen where I am now way back then. I would have done this so much earlier and my life may have been much different.0 -

No one told me:
- My feet would get smaller. I'm tall so I wear a lot of ballet flats and nearly all of them are now unwearable.
- I always used to say I'd rather be freezing than hot. I'm not sure that's how I feel anymore as I am cold all the time. Lol
- I would become more adventurous. I was never scared of heights, or fast roller coasters or snorkelling. I was scared of fitting in the harness, fitting in the roller coaster seat, or pulling myself back up on the boat of a snorkelling trip.
- People would talk to me more often. Strangers asking directions, telling me the dress looks gorgeous, asking me what perfume I'm wearing etc.
- It gets awkward when some friends who haven't seen you in a while are so shocked at your weight loss they go on and on about how fat they themselves are. When I don't think they are big but they are more self conscious as they may be larger than I am now.
- I didn't even think About the fact that I would have to venture out into all the other stores once my plus size store size 14 didn't fit me anymore :-/
- Nobody told me I would love taking pics now. Pics with my girlfriends don't look lopsided anymore as I am not the massive blob on the side of the picture!

I have had to do some serious shopping lately to restock my wardrobe. Its awesome, and I am loving being able to find clothes that I fit in most stores I go into. However it's such an adjustment to try and just buy things I really love and make me feel great, rather than settling for anything that fits and looks 'passable' as I have had to do for so long. I was considering a dress today which fit and looked ok, but not great. It was really hard to put it back and trust that I would find something better.
I'm also bringing a lot more colour and pattern into my wardrobe because I'm not afraid to stand out any more.14 -
This is a very new one for me...I'm just about at 40 lbs. lost, which is 5 away from my UGW and the lower end of what I want to maintain at.
I've lost most of my weight while away at school (started at the end of July 2014), so now people are just starting to really notice and comment. I never ever thought I'd feel embarrassed to disclose how much I've lost when they ask. In reality, though, having to lose 40 pounds at age 19/20 (and still being okay losing 5 more) is hard for me to accept...like, how did I let things get so out of control in 20 years?10 -

At least you made the decision at a young age...I waited till I was 36 to do something about it11 -

Nobody told me how cranky I would get if I missed a workout...12
-
-How looking down at thinner thighs makes you work out that much harder.
-Yeah...I'm cold all the time too.
-How skipping a workout makes you super guilty.
-How watching your calories is like watching how you spend your money.
-How losing weight is not only about what you see on the scale anymore!17 -
The arm rests in my car used to be too low. Now they are too high, I think it has to do with the size of the "cushion" I am sitting on.7

I'm so jealous of people who say their skin has cleared, I'm not at goal but I've been having the worst chin breakouts since I started losing.7

That once you're ACTUALLY ready, it seems so much easier than any other time attempted before40

I used to love a good scratch, you know that moment when you take your bra off at the end of the day the relief, that's when I'd have a back scratching session, I just can'r do it now, it just doesn't feel the same anymore, I don't like the feel of my bones.7

So true!
Nobody tells you...
That once you start eating healthier, family members will make comments about everything you eat when they couldn't have cared less before.
How you will silently judge overweight people in public more harshly.17 -
leave the scale alone and take pictures and watch the magic6

+1 Damn right. My downfall is good beer... I love good beer. That might explain why I like running... so I can have a guilt free beer.Poutine is the pornography of cheat meals. Looks amazing and you desire it greatly, but 1) isn't as high quality as it looks, and 2) you end up setting back amazing milestones that you could have nailed sooner.
Pornography of cheat meals.
That's a classic. I will be quoting you from now on! Even in Quebec poutine is not always great. If I'm going to blow that many calories and spend the money it has to be GREAT.
So I tend not to order such things. Instead of poutine or something similar I'd rather order something with high flavour, not so many calories. Or a Greek kabob, or if its bar food at least chicken (wings or something) has flavour and protein in the mix.

How great it feels to wipe your bottom after using the potty as well as really getting your v clean and being able to see it!!!!16

Mine didn't get better just with the weight loss, but for some reason, I cut back on dairy...accidentally, I just got sick of yogurt and that was the main sours of dairy. My skin cleared up. Now that I track what I eat, I can see that I break out more when there has been more dairy in my diet
