That finding clothes is actually harder because you are not used to shopping for real clothes..does this look right?....Is it supposed to be skinnier at the bottom??? ....everything fits but you are more picky because of it.

Definitely more picky. I used to buy clothes if they fit well, not caring much how they looked within reason. Now, I'm taking pictures in the dressing room to make sure it looks good from all angles, because I can't tell. Sometimes I just get brain freeze during a shopping trip and end up leaving without buying anything. It all fits now and I have to decide if I like a certain style, if it looks good..... It was kind of easier before, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

It just makes me laugh when I fit into something in a size I never thought I'd wear again. The people in adjacent fitting rooms must think I'm crazy, laughing out loud!

    This! So cold
But as someone else said, don't get complacent or it all piles on again!

Every summer we go to the same amusement parks. I'm not a thrill seeker at all and I usually find all the rides uncomfortable, to say the least.
This summer, to my utmost surprise, the pit in my stomach was completely gone. I actually enjoyed myself and I couldn't believe how different every ride felt. It's basic physics I guess, the acceleration of a 260lb body is so much higher than the one of a 180lb body :) this is one change I never anticipated. I celebrated by going on the water slide tube at least 30 times :)

Ooh that's fantastic!!!! I'm heading to wet and wild with the kids in the September holidays. I'm so excited

The first time I tried on something that I thought was going to be way too small and it fit I know for a fact people thought I was nuts. When it happened I literally danced out of the changing room to look in the bigger surrounding mirrors. There was a crowd. They looked shocked and then laughed. I didn't even care because I was in such a good mood when it happened.

I am also more picky, but don't know. I was shopping this weekend and had three dresses, I took pictures and sent them to my friends. But I also like looking at the picture instead of the mirror. For some reason I see myself differently in the pictures. Usually better, but this weekend, one of the dresses looked worse in the pictures. It was just weird.

When I first lost a lot of weight and finally got out of plus size, I had lots of trouble shopping. There were way too many options that I got overwhelmed. I ended up taking a friend with me and she helped me out. That was the best thing I did. I just went in the dressing rooms at stores and she brought me things to try on. It made me stop gravitating towards the exact same clothes.

Much more fun than me. I went to the mall in January to try on real clothes not from a "big girl" catalogue but from regular department stores. Got really overwhelmed with the amount of choices and not having a clue as to what size I was (my clothes were usually all xl or xxl, no numbers). Finally ended up in The Gap with a pair of jeans. A 12 fit, the last number I remember was a 24. I got all teary eyed. Hoped no one was nearby. I need to go again, but need a definite plan of attack so I don't lose my $8&% again. I think no matter what size, I'm always going to prefer the online shopping approach.

Alidecker and others are right on. Take a friend who can bring you clothes without coming out of the changing room. That way, you can talk through it, understand your new size, and start celebrating instead!

I'm enjoying hearing everyone's responses. I'm just 52 years young (menopausal) and totally lack motivation! Until a few years ago, I excercised at least 3-4 times a week and did that all of my adult life. Now I find it hard just getting out of bed! When I do get out and excercise, I'll power walk/jog 4-5 miles which is great but I'm not consistent. I need to lose 50-60lbs. I wish you could all give me some of your motivation!

a handsome young man ignored the elevator floor number that he had pushed and followed me to my office to chat me up.

Did you get HIS number? ;D

No but I know his name and now he knows where my office is located.

How after a few weeks your hunger and cravings simply vanish. I can barely eat a whole meal now that I'm able to distinguish between actually hungry and satiated/full.

I have only lost about 15 pounds so far so maybe someone of these are only true for me:
    - you will still have cravings for the unhealthy foods you used to eat like chips and pizza... I am still waiting for the day when I don't think Cheetos are delicious
    - when your sister or other close people don't comment on your weight loss you start to question if you even look any different than before
    - weight loss can start to consume so many of your thoughts to where I sometimes questions if it is healthy to think about it so much
    - but overall how much your confidence will increase and make you wonder why you waited so long to do this

"- when your sister or other close people don't comment on your weight loss you start to question if you even look any different than before"

This is so true!!! I have a few close friends who have said nothing about my weight loss I know they are there for me but just haven't commented on it.

Men - For every 10 pounds of weight loss you "gain" an inch. This is because the "fat pad" is smaller and allows more of your barbell to show.

not even remotely true, dont get your hopes up too much men.
if losing 50lbs gained 5 inches, there'd be 0 overweight men in the world

Ha! No kidding! I wish! Yes, there has been a difference... And no, I don't know how much. I'm obsessed with myself, sure, but not enough so to start measuring my Old Feller.

This makes me sad, I haven't lost any of my friends over losing weight. There are some acquaintances who got a little weird, but nothing crazy. I have gained some friends, from the activities I have added to my life.

That you might receive wanted and unwanted comments about your loss and ultimately it's up to you to decide how you want your body to look.

I find that I'm not trying to run out of the camera's way quite as much. Also since losing weight in my face, my resting b*tch face appears to be less severe now, which I think is making me more approachable.

"resting b*tch face" I love it. I too have an unapproachable look on my resting face. I just never knew how to phrase it. now I know :+1:

I love this thread! I remember finding whatever that bone is below the collarbone...I thought I had a tumor for about a week before I realized what it was! Duh!

I had that scare to when I felt my collar bone for the first time, I thought I'd fractured something it and it was sticking out :)

This thread is a awsome read <3

Nobody tells you about all the loose skin.

    This is my biggest fear.

It's an interesting quirk of human psychology among the overweight, I guess, that everyone is so fixated on loose skin. Why is it that folks at the beginning of their weight loss journey worry about this? I'm not exempt, I did all kinds of research on the subject too, asked a bunch of questions, and thought about it way too much. Now that I've lost 100+ I can honestly say that I couldn't possibly care less about loose skin! Yes, I have some, maybe a lot. Who cares! I feel and look so much better, loose skin doesn't matter. At. All.

Yeah, like if your skin is going to be loose, you won't loose weight?! I like being alive so I will discipline myself down to a healthy body fat.
