Thanks you guys. I'm going to brush my teeth and get ready for bed. But if it doesn't work I'll eat a pickle.

Did an hour of an Extreme Cardio DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Cathe Maximum Intensity Strength DVD
After exercising went to WalMart, then had a guy here to give us an estimate of how much the landscaping would cost us. In a way, it might have been a blessing in disguise that Vince hurt his shoulder and now has the heart problems. I know that he has this "thing" about not wanting to pay to have something done that you can do yourself, but I've seen the landscaping since we've owned this house and it really isn't getting any better. I'm afraid that if we wait to do it ourselves, it'll be another 10 years before we get it done, and even then it won't be done decently. I'd like to get someone in to at least give us the foundation. I think we can be pretty good at maintaining, but it needs to be done initially.
Then went in the pool, got dinner ready and took Lexi to the vet for her checkup. Came home and cut the "grass" (or really the weeds), had dinner, didn't realize how late it is.
katla - what a spin class you had! Wonderful
janetr - how horrible for your BIL and sis. Sending them good thoughts
I got an injection of Prolia in early August. Well, we just got the bill. I'd been told that insurance approved it. They didn't pay anything. Seems that when the MD put in for the order, he used the wrong code so the insurance saw it as a chemo experimental drug and wouldn't pay. The hosp is going to resubmit it with the proper medical code.
Tomorrow after exercising I need to go to the farmer's market and then to the Food Lion to get the chickens for Sunday, then make the desserts
Carey - have a great time
Lisa - I think you did pretty well meeting your goals for August.
Miriam - yea for your son! And for you
Margaret - I like the red okra better than the green. I think the red is less "slimy". Only most people grown the green. Story of my life. All the best for your ds
Welcome everyone new!
katla - I do hope you enjoy CO. So glad dh is going with you
terri - good thoughts for your dd. I know that you being together will help
Vicki - so glad you enjoyed the concert
pip - you and Kirby sound like me and plants. I remember one time before we were married, Vince went away on business. He had a plant he asked me to water. He even poured out the water for me so that I couldn't overwater it. It died. He asked what I did and I just said "looked at it". That shoulder of yours is even hard to look at
ldg - I'd never heard of someone whose spine curved the wrong way. Interesting
Don't know what is up with MFP. Every time I try to read the posts, it jumps to the top of the page. At first I was using IE and it was really lagging so I switched over to Chrome and now have the jumping issue. Oh well....I'll do the best I can and I apologize if I missed anything. Joyce - so sorry, I was having the hardest time reading your post. It kept jumping to the top of the page.
Mary from MN - just watch out for that sodium in that pickle!!!
Michele from NC0 -
Barbie/Mary - good idea of brushing teeth, and a pickle might work for me too. Bed is out for me this early in the evening, I'd be back up at 2 am.
Janetr OKC0 -
Love the picture Terri.
Barbie- the toothpaste is working so far! Thanks!
Janetr- yeah, I can't go to bed quite yet either but I got ready.
We should post what we do when uncontrollable hunger strikes! I usually try to ignore it then eat a pickle but I haven't got any. My DH offered to go to the store if it got bad.

Pip: I'm delighted to hear that you met someone at the gym who knows of your surgeon's work and thinks he's good. That she is a physical therapist adds weight to her opinion in my eyes. Good news all around. :flowerforyou: "Being brave" is a show folks put on for others. You ARE brave, and sometimes try to tough things out when they need care. :noway: The pictures your coworker took match what I was imagining all too well.
DJ: We live in a small community that has a building supply business. I asked there for recommendations and was given cards for a couple of people who are highly regarded. One of them did not answer their phone or return a message. I talked to another and will talk to him again when we return from our trip. Craig's list is geared for the Portland metro area around here, and is less useful for us. We don't want to pay someone to commute. :noway:
Cheri: Love the "one step closer" poster.
Heather: Your seafood chowder sounds divine! :
Joyce: I know how stressful it is for a woman whose DH is hospitalized. Been there. You are doing a great job handling a tough situation. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
Sue: I'd give yoga on horseback a try if I had the advantage of some instruction and my teacher was up for it. I had a lesson in "hands free" riding with just a saddle pad today. It was really helpful for me in learning how to signal the horse to turn, circle a cone one direction and another, speed up and stop. Remember the "Look ma, No hands!" TV commercial from the olden days? No hands today unless I was really in a pickle. In spin class I usually stay seated when others go into the standing position, but today I was feeling strong.
Idg518: Stop by often to give and get support. This is a great group of women who are kind, insightful, and offer sympathy, support, and excellent advice. :flowerforyou:
Becca: Of course your DH made a rock into a boob. He's a guy.
Mary: Find a bunch of celery and eat one stick after another. It will let your munchies express themselves and won't cost you calories. As I understand it, celery takes more calories to digest than it contains. :flowerforyou: (No pimento cheese or peanut butter on it if you want to avoid gaining weight.) :noway:
DH is diabetic and has been having too many low blood sugar episodes lately, so I bullied him into logging all his food & exercise on MFP. He needs to eat more regularly and the right things. Logging will help him avoid low blood sugar episodes. Today he's logging, and he hasn't had a low blood sugar episode. I hope he'll see the wisdom of keeping this up and making it part of everyday life.

Good idea, I find my worst time is at night and sometimes I do just go to bed but it needs to be at least 11:00. On the other hand, sometimes I find myself wanting to wait until after Jack goes to bed so I can eat. Then I try to make myself go to bed when he does. It doesn't always work. I usually will eat a protein bar then, which is not totally horrible, but it will most times put me over my calories for the day. I never eat back earned calories and I have my limit sat at 1200. I'm thinking of upping it to see if that helps.

Katla - the celery might work for me too. It seems by night I'm always looking for something crunchy. Celery might do the trick. I have a horrible sweet tooth tho and am most often looking for something sweet or crunchy and salty as in Ritz Crackers.

Michele - thank you for your kind thots for my sis and BIL. Found out tonight that my sis was hospitalized last night when she went to the ER. This time she has a urinary tract infection that they said had "moved north". Not sure how far or to where, etc. She had sepsis quite badly a few years ago and was very sick. She's had a horrible time with infections and getting them cleared up since that time. There was no new information on my BIL. It's all very sad to me, just not ready for this with my older sisters but I realize it is part of life, or rather the cycle of life. I keep telling myself to remember Barbie's mantra, "live in the moment". That's really all we have.
Thank you all for being here and being a part of my life and so much support and encouragement.

Made it back for a second day in a row. Trying to keep up now because not sure I will when we go to Richmond.
Lisa-The restaurant has taken up a lot of your time and effort. It must be incredibly difficult to pull a business back from the brink of disaster. Blood, sweat and tears. You must be Wonder Woman.
Miriam - I am so happy that your son's voucher finally came through. Yeah!
Margaret - It is so hard when someone in the family has a substance abuse problem. We went to hell and back with DS#1 . Inpatient treatment programs are a great starting point. Will he go to NA/AA meetings. Stay Strong. Use the Serenity prayer, it really helps. One day at a time.
Terri - Is your daughter a tattoo artist? Our DS#1 has his shop in Steveston, British Columbia.
Praying that you and your daughter have a great experience together.
DJ - I think or retiring every day now but it will probably be 4-5 yrs before I do so.
Joyce - Prayers to you in this difficult time. I am so glad that you got babied. We all need a soft place to fall at times.
Pip - I can't believe they would consider leaving it like that. You are one tough cookie.
Work was interesting. "Wonder Boy" gave his notice on Tuesday. He has his last day while I am on vacation. Talk of me changing it but that is not happening.
trying to get all facets of my life tidied up. I feel more free as I chuck and organize. I have to make sure I have my stuff ready for the accountant.
My fun today was going a late afternoon movie on a rainy day.
Good night

Sharon... I just might be, because there are days when I "wonder" what the heck I'm doing! I learned, as the stresses got intolerable before I left on vacation, to go to that tiny little rathole of an office, shut the door, cry for 30 seconds or so to release some of that tension, wipe my face and go back to it. My eyes might have been red when I went back out, but considering the drug issues here in town, they probably just thought I was smoking dope outside or something.
Joyce... I'm glad someone there is treating you well. You need that, and if we were all there, we'd be doing it!
Pip... Only three weeks til your surgery, and then some physical rehab, and you'll be back to your old self...
Restaurant Impossible Update:
I'm learning, in this near-impossible task, that my instincts are still good. I can very nearly predict what's going to happen. And, as I was pretty sure would happen, the night head cook simply didn't step up to make sure things get done. Yes, men and women clean differently. But when I can run my fingernail through caked grease on the side of the warmer, it's not clean, I don't care who you are. His answer was, "But we scrubbed it!" My response, "Not hard enough, not long enough, and if scrubbing doesn't work, then scrape. Use bleach, use degreaser, do NOT let this kitchen go back to what it was when I got here."
And this is why I told them all on Monday: "The day and night head cooks get the first reprimands if they sign off on the checklists that it is clean and it's not." He got that verbal reprimand in front of the person who will be his boss very shortly. Next will be a written. Three writtens and you're fired. He knows how it's done... but let's the line cooks working with him get away with saying "I wiped it off." And then he signed to say it was clean. Not acceptable.
It often feels like I'm pushing back the tides. However... my replacement has a food-handler certificate. And has lived in this town 40 years. She'll replace him in a heartbeat. Which I will pull him to the side and say at some point when she's not around. He's got some choices to make.
Other than the restaurant, all is well, honestly. I'm not running as much as I want to... but my knees aren't hurting, either, so some good comes out of everything. However, I can just feel my butt getting soft and flabbalicious, so I have to get back to it. I've gained back five pounds, and that is utterly unacceptable.
Eating-wise, I've been out of control a lot since our return from Montana... but the mental energy has all been going into the restaurant. This week should see that winding down. I've got a few more major tasks, but the people and daily management of the place are moving over to the replacement this week, while I get per-plate costing set up outside the system. What that means is I can use Excel to create it (as I discussed with the GM) instead of a system I don't know. I just have to invent something that's updatable, maintainable and usable for the future. Easy-peasy.

Mary ... I had the same problem last night. I did end up eating over calories for the day, but not beating myself up over it. I weighed it all, logged it all and owned it. Looking back this morning, I'm pretty certain it was initiated by a day low in protein ... I wasn't satisfied and by 6-7:00 I was ravenous ... Or so I thought. I will rectify that today by focusing on more protein at each meal... Which will automatically lower carbs. I'll let you know how that works for me!
Have a great day ladies!

Sharon thank you for your comment. I agree day by day. I also have the keys to his car and plan to keep them until I am sure he is safe to drive.

Pip - my dad's collar bone looked like that after he turned his car upside down in the days before seat belts. I thought it was yuk, but he said it didn't hurt! Never did anything about it, but he wasn't an athlete like you. :flowerforyou:
Lisa - I'm hoping all will settle down and you'll be able to get back to your book and your own warehouse project.
Terri - you all look as if you are enjoying yourselves in the photo! ! ! ! Have a great weekend!
Katla - delighted your family plans are working out.
A lot of the decorations for DH's birthday meal table arrived today. Colour changing candles and turquoise berry lights. The paper cloth is purple and the napkins multi. Going for sort of Monet waterlily colours. I've ordered plastic beer glasses and one for DH that is "strobing"!!!!! Next big thing is to order the food etc online to be delivered to the birthday house. I have a long list. DH still has to send out menu options for preorder for the caterer.
This week I forgot my nephew's birthday so I quickly posted off some money yesterday. I got a call from my DB today with nephew on the phone to thank me. Hooray! I only remembered at all because I was telling my friend in Portsmouth how old my DB's children were. (He has 6) Then I went "S**t!" I only do their birthdays up to 18, but he is 14. My DB told me that the boy has just been diagnosed with Coeliac Disease. This is after 2 years of him being treated for "anxiety" and school phobia, pain management classes etc. Well, at last now it's sorted. What a business! ! ! !
DB and DSIL are coming over for a meal for my birthday Oct 2nd. We haven't seen them since April, despite continually making promises to each other. They only live 10 miles away! I am going to buy superior deli food so I'm not cooking on my birthday.
Had fresh crab and watercress for lunch - gorgeous! Tonight salmon with sorrel sauce and broccoli. Very fishy!
I ordered some darling clothes for DGD for her 2nd birthday in a week's time. A pale pink knitted jacket with a rabbit hood (she is crazy about rabbits) and a stripey t shirt with birds on. . We are seeing them on Monday to babysit while the nanny's away and then next Sunday for her party. Then we are babysitting while the parents go to Paris for one night. Might be their last chance before the 3rd next year.
I have put on 2 lbs so got to get a grip! Don't want to feel fat at DH 'S big party. :noway:
Love to all. Take care.

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Morning Ladies,
Mary, don’t ya just hate it when you want to eat anything and everything? It’s like the devil gets in us. And at other times it’s just so easy to eat like we want to. Good suggestion from Barbie. Hang in there.
Janetr, you are right that there are lots of suggestions to help us when attacked by the eating bug. The main thing for me is to stay busy and stay away from the kitchen. Once I’m in there I seem to lose all control. If I just need a touch of something sweet at night, I keep animal crackers and can have 3 or 4 of those.
Michele, I often have trouble with MFP but never “jumping to the top of the page”? lol What have you been drinking out at that pool? Thanks for the reminder that I was having better luck with Chrome. Somehow I got back on IE.
Terri, love the picture! Thanks for sharing. Glad ya had fun.
Katla, way to go getting DH to log his food. Swings in blood sugar is not something to mess around with so hopefully he will keep it up and reap the benefits.
Sharon, doesn’t it feel great to get rid of things we don’t need and to get organized? A movie on a rainy day sounds like an excellent idea. I so rarely go to the movie that I don’t even think about it.
Lisa, you do make so much of it seem Easy-peasy. Good for you. You won’t know what to do with your time when you are finished at the restaurant. Gosh, just think, you may find time to run and write.
Beth, I hope the change in protein helps. Good luck.
Allison, I’m waving to you and your dad. Enjoy yourself.
Heather, tell us again how many people are expected for DH’s big party? It certainly sounds elaborate. I don’t think you should cook on your birthday, either! In fact, someone should be cooking for you, if it’s the chef in a restaurant.
to any Newbies that I missed. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
We went out early this morning to a few garage sales in the next neighborhood. It was a neighborhood event that they have twice a year, but just a few houses were participating this time. I didn’t need anything so it was fine. All the clothes for sale were plus size, which I no longer wear. Hee hee for me.
I hope all of you have a healthy and happy day.
Words I live by:
Savor. I have to slow down and savor every bite.
and
Opportunity. Each day offers new opportunities for good health and happiness if we just look for them and choose them.
I Love you,

Great job recording and owning what you ate. I didn't eat anything after I brushed my teeth but my stomach growled all night so I got up and drank a full glass of water. That sounds like a good plan. I am going to do the same thing. I am also going to get celery, pickles and fresh vegetables to have cut up and ready to eat. Because of moving I haven't gone grocery shopping for a while. We have a freezer full and a lot of dry products so have been eating that. Let me know how today goes.
Heather- your DGD is going to look so cute! I wish I had a DGD to dress up. There still is hope for my DH's DD if she ever decide to talk to him again. It's been 7 months now.
DJ - I love the emoli! Sometimes the urge is sooooo strong it is exactly like that! I am glad I was able to fight it off. Great NSV when everything is too big!
We went for a morning walk. I am glad that my DH is doing things with me. It makes it easier. We are going to do a little remodeling in the cabin today. Move the bedroom wall out to make it bigger.
Have a great day everyone!

Just jumping in here. This looks to be a very active thread, and I'm thinking that's what I need as part of a routine of accountability. I'm 51 (how did I get this old?), married 19 years, work full time, and have a beautiful 11-year-old daughter, I haven't tried to get fit for 6 years. I weigh 205 (sorry if TMI) and I always thought "I can stop eating any time" -- i.e. that I knew how to lose weight.
With menopause creeping up with aching joints and hot flashes now, I'm a bit more insecure about it, but it seems even more urgent. I don't really know what weight goals to set short term, but I don't want to hobble into old age. So I've got very simple goals to start with for September:
1. Log food every day (starting today, September 5)
2. Walk 10,000 steps per day (this is easier now that I'm walking my 6th grader to school)
3. Drink 4 glasses of water per day (I know this is not enough, but I'm the person who carries the water bottle around all day and never opens it)
4. Plan (this is big!) a sensible lunch that fits into a 1500 calorie plan.
5. Sleep 7.5 hours per night.
6. Check this thread once per day to get to know you all.
Eventually I guess I should get down to 145 which is sort of the top "healthy weight" for my size. I wear a Jawbone UP activity tracker. It tracks sleep and steps and syncs with MyFitnessPal app.

Mary - I was soooooo happy when I heard the 2nd grandchild was a girl. I have two boys and had a stillborn daughter in between them. It's nice that the grandchildren are one of each so I haven't got to worry about which gender the 3rd one will be.
DJ - The party is for 28 and is for 3 nights over a weekend. One huge table for the catered birthday meal. There are several houses and a barn plus a b&b up the road. You can Google Middle Stanley. Friday is pot luck. Sunday we will be just a few left for a takeaway. Lunch is "find a pub". I have to order all the breakfast stuff for 26 for 2/3 days plus general catering - milk, tea, coffee, fruit, biscuits etc. Plus 3 small children I haven't counted!
Should be fun!
Janetr and Mary - I sometimes use Walden Farm products when I am starving. Caramel sauce with Ryvita. Blue cheese or chipotle with raw veggies. The sauces are calorie free. Raw veggies are my saviour, like they are for Penny. But I try not to get starving too often. Regular meals and planned snacks are normally enough. Very occasionally I resort to Diet Coke.
DH upstairs watching England play football. I can catch up with something recorded from TV.
Love to all, Heather UK0 -
I love this graphic so I had to post it again to remind me of what I don't want to do.
Elizabeth, we are glad you are here...yes this is a friendly and active thread....a bit slower on weekends.....join the conversation...you will see that we talk about everything and feel safe with each other.
I am very excited---the chiropractor said that I should walk so this morning I went out without the dogs and and walked for 35 minutes and I my hip feels better....yes, I had to resist my natural inclination to overdo.
Barbie from beautiful NW Washington0 -
Elizabeth-welcome to this thread of very supportive and motivational ladies! You will get a lot of support here. With walking your 11 year old daughter you should get your steps in easily.
Heather- sounds like you have a lot to do! I hope you have a very enjoyable time! Thanks for the food ideas! I will have to try the caramel sauce on the ryvita. I had to look that one up.
Barbie - i'm glad that you are feeling better and able to walk again! I know how hard it must be not to be able to do what you are used to.
Mary from Minnesota0 -
I and not going to lie, those of you who know me know my favorite word is fu&$k. Yesterday and today I've been having these sudden sharp shooting pains coming out of nowhere on this shoulder! I'm fine then suddenly it hits me and then it's gone. I have no idea what motion I am doing that makes it happen. This is getting bad.0

Good morning friends.went to bed last night at 8:30 but didn't go to sleep until around 10. Sadness. Then I was quite restless and woke up several times during night. I know it was that little conscience in my mind and heart remixing me that I did not go in and give m husband a kiss before I left last night. Plus excitement that my other daughter and family are coming in today. But there will be lots of business, have to talk about and sign health care representative and living wills, they want to tour Charlie's rehab place plus be assured that he is OK. Last nights sleep sure didn't help me but I got a ride to the front door of the hospital and I'm not sure if it helped or not. When in room there was no aknowdegement of yesterday, not much acknowledgement I was even there. He did tell me that he had been hogging the TV remote and if I wanted it for the day that it wa mine. Different nurse who seems kind and professional. Charlie did need to go to bathroom and no one answered his call so he stood up to use the urinal by himself. I guess that was a good sign but the bed alarm was not turned on so it didn't go crazy with a loud continous awful ring. He ate a chocolate chip cookie for breakfast. Not a good breakfast but he at least ate the whole large cookie. Sometimes you have to pick your battles.0

Janetr OKC: I'm so sorry your DS and DBIL are in such bad health situations. I'll keep all of you in my prayers. :flowerforyou:
Lisa: You have been Wonder Woman for this restaurant and I hope they show suitable appreciation. :flowerforyou:
Alison: Enjoy New Hampshire with your dad.
Heather: You are amazing. You initiate and participate in so many wonderful social activities. I admire that very much. I am inept in the social arena. :noway: I googled Middle Stanley and it looks absolutely gorgeous there. Where do you catch the train when you go to London? Is there a racetrack in Cheltenham? I'm a Dick Francis reader and the name is familiar.
Pip: Sorry that Bullwinkle has a boo-boo that isn't healing. I hope there is a salve or something to fix it. :flowerforyou:
Mary from MN: Happy to hear you enjoyed your walk with DH. Moving a bedroom wall doesn't sound like "little remodeling" to me. :noway: It sounds like a big project.
Elizabeth in S CA: I let MFP set my initial goals for me. I supplied the target weight and MFP assigned the allowed calories. As I lost weight, MFP reduced my allowed calories but never below 1200 per day. As time went along, I modified a few things but not many. Good luck to you. I chose portion control as my primary strategy because I have a lot of food sensitivities. It worked out really well because I didn't have to relearn what to eat when I reached my goal. I hope this gives you a few ideas to consider. :flowerforyou:
Barbie: I love the graphic of the little green guy devouring a whole turkey.
Our trips plans are made and it is time to start the packing process. We plan to leave in the morning. I should have internet access along the way, so I'll be around. In the event internet access is compromised, I do all my logging on my phone and it keeps my count so that I've never missed a day. (so far) You will likely hear from me regularly and again before we leave. What can I say? This group is important to me. I owe a lot of my success to the support I've gained here.

Happy Saturday dear friends, pray that you are having a good start to the weekend. I am working 6-4:30 today and tomorrow. Going to be another hot day so guess I can be glad I am inside. Had out CMA meeting last evening so was late when got home and then I cleaned out the kitchen cabnits. Since DSIL moved out I wanted to get all the juke out she had bought since she did not take it with her. Going to take the food to a guy that works with DH. Feel better about having it done, but sure made for a short night.
Joyce--don't worry about us, you take care of you. Wish I could do more then just listen. Know I am thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers.
pip--Everytime I see them I hurt. So glad you have the surgery scheduled and have such a positive attuide about it.
Welcome Lori, remember One Day at a Time.
Terri--like the picture, thanks for sharing. Looks like you all are having a good time.
Janetr--Spending prayers and hugs. Living in the moment is good and not always easy.
Allison--Sounds like you are at the place you need to be. I do pray you relax and enjoy the time with your dad.
Elizabeth--Welcome, you have come to the right place for support and friendship. This group is my lifeline and I love each and everyone of these dear ladies.
Katla--I hope you have a great time on your trip. Be looking forward to hearing all about it and pictures.
Well I am really struggling today with staying a wake. Am caught up on reading so will stop for today.
