nice 10k this morning, was concerned about it after my 26.4 yesterday but I was actually faster than last week's one
in good mood, or better, I was in good mood, now 9 hours in jail, and I'm also very hungry
had a whole roast chicken yesterday evening, 830 grams of meat
thanks to everyone for the kind words, hope you had good runs this past week ends
@mwyvr - you made me nostalgic, I assume it's Vancouver - I went there a couple of years ago on vacation, what a beautiful place, we went then to Whistler (first bear encounter btw) and I completely fall in love with your country0 -
Due to a bit of poor maths on my side ive had to rethink my total miles goal Im aiming for a 5 day running week with 3 days being medium (4-5 miles), one day being short (3 miles- Parkrun day!) and one day being long (6 miles or over). Goodness knows how i came to 45 miles per week but its actually 75
Im also still just recovering from a little tumble i took two sundays ago which has left me more than a little irritated with my useless ankles and ballance. So strength excercises are being done to improve this and make my ankles and legs a little stronger.
But only 20 miles left to run before i meet my september goal!

8 miles for me on sunday in 1hr 16 mins. 46.5 miles in total. Slow and steady!
downside - I knew I shouldn't have increased the mileage to that much yet, and now I have broken myself. The back of my knee in the centre is pretty sore now and is uncomfortable to walk on/extend/bend! (tendonitis?) I hope this doesn't put me out of action for too long0 -

By some miracle, I wasn't a sore-in-the-hips, barely-moving-my-feet mess this morning like I usually am after such a long run. Plus I dug out my capris from last year, and even though they're a tiny bit big and far too long, I rolled the extra length back up over my knees and so I didn't even have achy knees in our 55-degree temps this morning. Win/win!

Remembering that #IAmNotMadeOfSugar, and being inspired by the likes of @kristinegift, @Stoshew71, @7lenny7, @WhatMeRunning and countless others running half marathons, 20 milers, and marathons this weekend, I suited up and headed out into yet another rain and wind storm for my first 20 miler in more than a decade. Thanks everyone for the constant source of inspiration here!
Turns out I hit the sweet spot in the weather and had a great run around the city, Stanley Park, past cruise ships and back via Chinatown before the skies really opened up and the winds grew cold. Last three km are all up hill and I felt it, but for the other 30km felt very good.
Glad to be an inspiration! That sounds like a great run, and as always, lovely pictures! Plus (re: follow-up post) some post-run beers make it all worth it, don't they?0 -

Question to everybody: do you know of/watched a video on good form of running that you liked? I would love to see some to work on my own form. I know there are a lot on the internet, but since I trust so many of you strong runners I thought to ask!
I have an entire thread dedicated to running form in the group page:

kristinegift wrote: »Woke up sort of nervous about this one; I was trying some new roads and I'm always nervous the city has turned off water fountains early. But it ended up being a really great long run. The best 20 miler I've done, hands down! I can count on one hand how many times I walked, and I still managed to beat any previous 20 mile time by about 18 minutes Before today, I'd never paced below 10:00 for 20 miles, and today I paced 9:14! Plus there was about 950 feet of elevation gain which for me as a born Midwesterner is immense!
Congratulations! I am so happy for you.
On the water front, I sometimes plant waterbottles in bushes on my planned course before I run so I have somewhere to stop and get a drink. Helps when you can't trust when the fountains get turned off.
We do this for our group runs too. Someone will get there early and hide a cooler full of aid on the course. Couple of times it got stolen, so we learned to hide the cooler very well.

Awesome pics and glad you got out there for that 20 miler.

Take a week with reduced mileage and more rest than usual. Then see if the following week you are able to come back stronger.patrikc333 wrote: »10k yesterday, and more importantly marathon today
btw, I don't drink anything, today I run for about 4 hours, and not felt like drinking at all, anyone else like me (that obviously live in a warm place, ~18C today)?
and what is your opinion about "the wall"?
Congratulations on your marathon experience. Well done!

9/1 - 3.5 miles - way too many pushes on the snooze this morning!
9/2 - rest day walked the doggie instead
9/3 - 5.1 miles
9/4 - 10 miles last 2 were HOT HUMID and MISERABLE LOL
9/5 - rest day - cross country meet - Skip did great 24th in her division 23:37 no where near a PR but it was so hot and humid you could hardly stand to be out there to watch let alone run. Proud of my girl.
9/6 - 5.1 miles
9/7 - 5.2 miles of trail running - OMG we had so much fun!!! Skip wanted to practice trail running for her meets and folks gave me some great recommendations of trails to run. We went out this morning and had a blast. The first trail was marked as easy/difficult so it was some easy packed dirt and some gravel with harder roots and rocks to climb. The second was difficult and some parts were about 2' wide and quite a climb (for me LOL). We loved it!
9/8 - 5.1 miles
9/9 - 5.5 miles
9/10 - 7.2 miles nice slow pace this morning, just wanted to get the miles in. Still pretty humid (97%) but the temp was 69 so it was nice. Annoying little doggie chased me this morning and nipped at my heels, honestly people it's dark out keep your doggies inside so they don't get run over.
9/11 - 5.3 miles - cool 64 but humid 100% morning, but nice weather for a run
9/12 - xc meet rest day
9/13 - 2 miles - was going to rest, but did 2 miles at the lake to move my legs
9/14 - 6.2 miles - good night 46 degrees in Alabama in September who would have thought it!
9/15 - 5.4 miles
9/16 - rest day
9/17 - 8 miles - started off ugly and then got great and felt good. Negative splits the whole way...that never happens
9/18 - 5.6 miles
9/19 - XC meet - rest day
9/20 - 10 miles felt good the whole run (that never happens) every mile under 11 mins most were around 10:34 the last was 9:56 giving me a 10:33 overall pace. I'd have to check but that has to be my best 10 miler. Taking Skip to see US Women's World Cup team play Haiti this afternoon. Can't wait.
9/21 - 5.2 miles in the rain - well drizzly
94.4 of 120 miles

Fairly pleased with coming back to running. Spent the weekend out of town to visit where my wife did her graduate work, and watch my beloved BEARS lose to an 0-2 team (dang it!). Glad I was able to get out and put in some miles, and felt pretty good about it.

@kristinegift - glad the run today felt good after your long yesterday. Good solution on the capris, but doesn't it feel great that they are too big :-)
@pearshapedmum sorry about the knee, I would agree with @stoshew71 on what to do. Feel better soon.
@shanaber wow hot for you all out there. Enjoy your visit with your daughter, hope your friend is better soon.
@patrikc333 Congrats on your super run!! I agree dogs (and some kids) need to be on leashes. What is with people.
@monkeymintaka fantastic job on your new long run! 8.2 is awesome.
Update on *kitten* woman with the kid in the stroller. I'm sure some of you will remember about the woman and man pushing the stroller in the dark a few weeks back and the woman called me a *kitten*. Well Sunday we came face to face during my run and she was running, so I'm going to say this and don't anyone get mad at me I want you to have the full picture. She's a very heavy woman, and is barely shuffling her feet along, but I see her coming (realize who she is) and all I can think is DAMN GIRL GOOD FOR YOU!!! As she gets closer I realize she now recognizes me and I give her a thumbs up and say GREAT JOB! as we pass, she grunts something. I honestly think she was shocked at my kind words and couldn't reply LOL She said "wait" and stops. I turn around and she says "I want to apologize for what I said, it was wrong and mean and here you are now giving me encouragement". I said it's fine I didn't give it a second thought. She looked at me and said "I'm so uphappy with myself and I take it out on others". I told her listen I was 60 lbs heavier than I am today just 18 short months ago, it didn't take me 1 week to gain it and it didn't take me a 1 week to lose it, it takes time, dedication and confidence that you can do it, by being out here you are showing the confidence. You'll get where you want to be, just remember it takes time. Then I told her if she wants a running partner to let me know. She smiled and said thanks so much and off she went. I guess everyone has their bad days. Or she heard I'm from Jersey and is scared of me LOL0 -

9/13 - rest day
9/14 - 5.43 miles of intervals / tempo with HM group

9/21 - No run; had to go for my annual physical...turn my head and cough. It is nice not to hear "You should lose weight / exercise more / go on a diet" like I always used to.
@skippygirlsmom - Sounds like a great run and great weekend! Now you can add "pacer" to your resume! Also, good job on ***** from a few weeks back. What she said is probably true of a lot of people. Way to encourage and inspire!
@kristinegift - Wow! Nice 20!
@mwyvr - Love it when the weather works out like that!
@Stoshew71 - as always, thanks for educating and encouraging!
Happy Monday, all!0 -

But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you... Do to others as you would like them to do to you. (Luke 6:27,28,31 - NLT)
Good job. As they say, kill them with kindness.@Stoshew71 - as always, thanks for educating and encouraging!

@skippygirlsmom - I love how it turned out! You are both very gracious and I'm glad she apologized. Great day!0
