last long run done this morning - what a beautiful sky, lots of stars! but cold, 3C!

less negative thoughts today, but still a few, in particular "have I over done it? / should have I trained following a plan?" but I managed to keep them pretty quiet and run another HM, slow but in control, didn't want to push or do any particular efforts

and what's been done has been done, so always looking forward

it's getting tougher cause of the dark, it really annoys me and going into the wood, where is even more dark, it's more difficult. My new cheap head lamp was lost by the courier yesterday, so got annoyed and bought an expensive one (petzl tikka rxp if anyone has some feedback), hope visibility will improve with that (I'm using a £8 one at the moment with a nice hole in the middle lol), but I'll have it next week

it seems like I cannot go straight, I lean towards one side of the road, don't get why

lots of sleeping cows, they are really funny and curious, they make me laugh

now 3 x 10km with a steady and standard pace, carb load, relax in 9 1/2 hours (5 o'clock please come soon)

4am run tomorrow, but knowing I'll take a plane and I won't be stuck in the traffic will be just a little bit better

    thanks guys for your support

Another build up run last night with the added bonus of running with a back pack loaded with my work stuff (it doesn't seem so heavy when I am wearing the clothes but put them all in a pack and it seem to magically double in weight...)

Pacing was a lot better and I managed to do so more evenly than the last time (well except for about the 5km mark and that ruddy great hill - which I always seem to forget about despite having run this route before - must be the previous traumatic experiences!) The route is generally undulating which adds a bit of variety too.

I enjoy these runs, especially the faster paced bits at the end, which is still at a manageable level. Feel great again this morning so may take a spin on the bike tonight if I have time.

    Happy running everyone.

    10/2 - 4.16 miles
    10/3 - 6.22 miles
    10/5 - 3 miles
    10/7 - 3.23 miles
    10/10 - 3.28 miles
    10/11 - 12 miles

Can't run. At all. Sharp knee pain, below my knee cap to the outside. Doesn't feel like ITBS,but who knows. Less than 2 weeks before my half marathon and doesn't look like I'll be able to run it. Anyone every have this before?

I tried to run 3 this morning, made it about .25 and had to stop. Changed sneakers and tried again, still hurt after about .25 too much to continue. Came inside and did 20 mins on the elliptical.

I'm really upset about not being able to run, and also about probably losing out on the $95 entrance fee.

10/1: 8 miles am and 6.2 pm with the Thursday crew
    10/2: Rest day
10/3: 10 miles with Saturday crew
10/4: 13.1 - Princeton Half Marathon (new HM PR!)
    10/5: 5 miles recovery style
    10/6: O Holy Rest Day........
    10/7: 7 miles hills
10/8: 10 miles (am), 6.4 miles (pm) with the Thursday crew
    10/9: Rest day
    10/10: 20.5 miles
    10/11: 4 miles
    10/12: Rest day
    10/13: 8 miles, very hilly!
    10/14: 7 miles speedwork

Attempted a progression run, but some of the streets were just too dark for me to keep upping the pace. Turned into more of a tempo run somewhere within my HM-marathon pace range. Decided to just maintain intensity and step it up more the last 2 miles (when the sun was finally up) rather than trying to go faster each mile. Did 1 mile warm up at 8:50, then splits were: 8:12, 7:49, 7:48, 8:01, 7:43, 6:58. The fast finish was downhill and it felt really, really great. And reminded me that I need to do a mile time again since my current "fastest" mile is 6:51, and I know I can crush that ;)

@jtarmom - I'm so sorry about your knee pain. Sorry not familiar with that particular pain. I'm more an ankle/foot/it band pain person myself. It doesn't sound like IT band to me, at least where mine hurt, but you may have to get it checked out.
    @jorocka - awesome pics!
@patrikc333 - I use knuckle lights. You have to change the batteries quite often but they are very bright and fit good over hands, so I don't even remember I have them on.
@Marissaxzxzxz - awesome job on increasing mileage. Be careful to add only 10% a week. I didn't listen to that advice myself and paid for it.
@Stoshew71 - LOVED those videos, especially the greatness one. I'm going to show it it to my students.

no run for me today- I stayed up way to late- so I'm going to see if I can get one in after PT- it's definitely time to start lifting so that's going to become a new balancing act.

    10/1 - 8 miles
    10/2 - 5 miles
    10/3 - 5.1 miles
10/4 - rest day Allen's son is in the Nat'l Guard and was supposed to jump yesterday. We were headed there when they cancelled the jump :-1:
    10/5 - 10.1 miles
    10/6 - 5.1 recovery miles
    10/7 - rest day
10/8 - 6.6 miles of hilly hills  not big hills just rolling up and down and up and down
10/9 - 5 miles my first mile I thought was crappy because I thought my watch said 10:50 and it felt like 10:50. Turned out it was 10:05 which I didn't realize until I pushed harder and my next split was 9:47. Ended up with a 9:49 pace... so happy especially after dancing too much and too late at the Miranda Lambert concert last night!
10/10 - 5 miles - 9:55 pace don't know what's gotten into me. Ran with Skip who is home from Disney.
    10/11 - 5.1 miles
    10/12 - rest day
    10/13 - 11.1 miles (yes I want my .1)
10/14 - 5 miles - recovery run with Skip, cool morning about 44F at run time.

    71.1 of 120 miles

@5beautifuldays how do you like rowing?
@jorocka I'll have to look at your pix at home, work is blocking them
@marissaxzxzxz sometimes you can't look at the scale, I try to go by how my clothes fit.
@jtarmom since the pain seems to be getting worse, it might be time to see a doc or PT
@kristinegift I wish we lived closer so Skip could run with you, I know I hold her back and she would do great with a running partner like you.

@JoRocka - love the story of your HM and the photos! I have increasingly found myself seeing race day as the reward for training, not the goal...you totally rocked that vibe!
@Stoshew71 - the first time I saw that "Find Your Greatness" video / ad, I literally cried! I was the funny fat kid my entire life until 3 years ago...only took me until I was 38 to find it.

All, just wondering about people's "name" on MFP. Any great stories behind them, etc. I am not very creative about such things, but love hearing about them from others.

10/1 - 3.1 miles on the 'mill; plus 5.8 miles / 20 minutes on stationary bike.
10/2 - Had to skip run/workout for a life insurance physical (bloodwork, etc.). Then, they couldn't get me to bleed, so I'm gonna have to do it again! Grrr!
10/3 - 11.5 miles with HM group; cool, beautiful weather!
    10/4 - waaaayy overslept!
10/5 - not off to a good start this month; kids up half the night with illness / asthma issues
    10/6 - 4.75 miles on a beautiful, cool morning.
10/7 - 4.85 miles of hills with HM group
    10/8 - 4.65 miles
10/9 - 0. Up half the night, again! Now feeling a bit under the weather. It's too early for this stuff, isn't it?
10/10 - 7.92 miles with HM group. Cool morning, flat loop...nice run!
10/11 - 3.15 mile "recovery" run. Slower pace with one of my 9 year olds...love getting to run with my kids! Sore hip though.
10/12 - 4.75 miles. Beautiful weather! Hip better, but not perfect. Fired up for 5k and HM this weekend!
10/13 - 0. Had my repeat life insurance physical, which went fine. Then spent the whole day waiting at home for Des Moines Water Works to turn water back on. Some sort of miscommunication between dispatch and the technician...UGH!!
10/14 - 5.16 relaxing, lovely miles with HM group as we "taper" for this weekend. Got pulled over on the way to meet them at 4:45 a.m. Just a warning...woo hoo!

Easy run today. 6.75 miles in 1:00:36 at 8:59 OA avg pace. Felt better and less sore than a normal recovery day, so the pace was closer to an easy day rather than a recovery day. Thursday tempo with my Pounders tommorow.

Did my first "official" half marathon Saturday, it was absolutely an amazingly beautiful day - temp at the start of race was 43 degrees, watched the sun come up over my great city and at the end of the race was a sunny 63 degrees. I ran my pace @ 10.02 finished #997 of a total of 4389 participants and #39 in my demographic (F50-54). for the October challenge I am at 49% exercise.png[img][/img]

@krdews that is fantastic!!! Glad you don't live near me so you don't kill me in our AG ha ha!
@karllundy my name is just that. Skip is my daughter's nickname, it comes from two things, years back our friends would call everyone Skip don't ask me why it was just a thing. "hey Skip" when someone walked in the door. Also a saying I've only heard in Jersey - question "are you going down the Shore?" Reply "Damn Skippy" aka "you bet I am". When she was a younger I called her Gomer, my mother hated it and lost her mind that I would call her that, it's fitting though. She's silly, lovable, naive and her way of looking at life and her thinking are definitely Gomer Pyle (now I'm really showing my age). I still call her that from time to time. Okay long story short, it's her nickname and the rest is self explanatory. BTW all her friends call her Skip and most of her friend's parents and teachers do too. Her coaches call her "lil bit" and the other calls her "Squirp". It's pretty funny because when I use her real name at a meet or soccer game half the parents don't know who I'm talking about and they will go "oh you mean Skip?".

@JoRocka I love your pictures! It looks like your HM was an absolutely fabulous experience!
@jtarmom I'm so sorry about your knee. I hope you can figure out what's going on with it soon.
@skippygirlsmom I was just on the rowing machine, but I did enjoy it--my shoulders are sore today! I'd love to get out and really row on a river or lake. We went kayaking at the beach this summer and I loved it. I do my long runs around a lake and the water just makes me feel alive and happy.

10/1 8.25 treadmill run at just around 12:00
    10/2 3.75 treadmill run at 11:28
    10/3 rest

    10/4 3.0 @ 12:03 outside
10/5 unplanned busy busy "rest" day
10/6 5.25 @ 11:40 on the treadmill, plus strength training
    10/7 6.0 @ 12:05 on the park trail (and 2.5 walking to and from school/warm up/cool down--not counted)
    10/8 rest
10/9 5.25 @ 11:14 on the treadmill, plus strength training
    10/10 rest

10/11 4.5 @ 11:49 on the park trail, just a nice, enjoyable run on a beautiful Sunday morning
10/12 4.0 @ 12:00 on the treadmill, nice and easy
10/13 3.5 @ 10:48 on the treadmill, plus 20 minutes rowing machine instead of weights (changing things up!)
10/14 9.0 @ 12:32 twice around the lake on the park trail. My longest long-run yet! I tried using the pacing feature on Map My Run to slow me down just a little (13 mm), but Siri was all "19 minutes, you're too slow!" "8 minutes, you're too fast!". Go home Pacer Siri, you're drunk. My fastest split was mile 6 at 11:43, after a short water break, and my slowest split was mile 8 at 13:01--there's a big hill and I was just wearing out. And hungry! I've never been hungry on a run before. Weird!

LOL - Pacer Siri -- this had me cracking up! I have been hungry on runs before and I hate that feeling, because when it happens it hits me so strongly, that I feel like I might get sick. It happened to me Monday this week. Usually Monday is a rest day for me but I decided to change it this week. Since I did so much biking on the weekend, I guess I just didn't eat enough. Luckily this is a rare thing for me because I eat a lot to keep up with all the biking and running, but every once in awhile I'm out of whack I guess.

@krdews- That's awesome about your HM! Congrats!

@karllundy My real name is Stanley. The polish nickname for Stanley is Stashew (or Stashiu/Stashu), although I spell it with an o - Stoshew. I'm actually German not Polish. I turn 44 this December (born in 1971), thus my name: Stoshew71.

Rest day for me today - well actually my body just refused to get out of bed when the alarm went off at 4am! HM in just over 2 weeks, so I get worried when I miss a workout and I have been missing quite a few! Some psychology in declaring them rest days LOL!

My MFP name - I usually use AfricaChick as I am "a chick from Africa" - born in Namibia and grew up in South Africa, living in the US at the moment, but the name was taken when I registered on MFP (grrrrrr...) therefore the extra S!

Oh no! I don't know what it is (I am completely ignorant when it comes to how our bodies function!!), but maybe your focus should move to recovery (rest; treatment; see a doctor / physical therapist) and rely on the training you already have in the bag to still run your half, even if you have to take it really slowly!

I can "hear" and feel your frustration! Take care of yourself!

Can't run.

@jtarmom Try these links, and maybe see a sports ortho.

@stoshew71- THANK YOU for the links! I'm going to go through all of them and I have an appt with the PT this afternoon.
@SAfricaChick - that's what I'm hoping. I'll rest and use the elliptical (while working on whatever muscle group is weakest) and I'm pretty confidant that as long as I keep some kind of cardio up I'll be OK for the race next weekend.
    @5BeautifulDays , @skippygirlsmom , @ddmom0811 - thank you! Hopefully I can figure out what is going on.
