Becca-- Thank you for the most gracious welcome. I'm sure I'm gonna like it here.
Pat-- I live in Florida now, but am a Georgia Girl at heart-- was raised in the northeast corner of the state and I miss my mountains!

Becca - If you continue with the hacking and coughing you might check with your MD to put you on a steroid like Prednisone. My lung MD put me on one after I had spent 3 weeks coughing; but, not as bad as I usually do going the antibiotic and cough medicine. I was very surprised that one round of it took that irritating hacking cough away. If your MD won't Rx it for you, ask to be referred to a 'lung specialist'. He even told me that I had bronchitis and usually I will get pneumonia if I don't get treated aggressively. I took my pneumonia shot last year, I think and it was the first Christmas that I was not 'sick' the whole time.
I've not been exercising for the past 2 weeks; just chilling.
Don't have anything to say, really ... just reading the posts since the last time I was here.0 -

Hi everyone, newbie here. I turned 56 on December 19, 2015 and decided to take control of things. 2015 was a really bad year (emotionally and stress-wise), so I need to take care of myself in 2016. Being more aware of my diet, exercise and overall health is one way I can feel in control of things again. I am overweight and have been for a long time, but I am trying to take steps now to reduce. I re-joined the gym, I am now logging my food and exercise on Myfitnesspal. I have some very fun hobbies...I'm learning to figure skate (going on 6 years now), learning to play the electric guitar (just over a year), and I want to get back in to pencil drawing. I work full time but have my evenings and weekends free, I just need to stay away from unhealthy foods during my down time, and use that time on self-improvement. It's nice to see a community here for 50+ women. Thank you for creating this.
Noorah, You have come to the right place for support and encouragement on your journey to lose weight. Joining a gym and logging food and exercise on MFP are perfect resolutions to get you started. I am envious of your learning to figure skate.....I haven't lived in a place with an ice rink since I was in college or I might have given that a go. Instead, I took up line dancing and have found my passion. Keep coming back and join in the conversation. You don't have to reply to everyone, just read and then say something.

Oh my goodness; 165 posts after mine! No way can I keep up! I’ll try my best.
Today was a quiet office day. I did manage 65 minutes of exercise, but now I feel worse than I did.
Sue: welcome!
Barbie: I have been shredding for days on end! I actually burned through one shredder and had to go buy another one!
Mom and Loki: welcome to you too!
Cindy: welcome to you as well! It’s nice to see newbies here
Allison: around here, we all eat what is cooked. I do the menus and ask everyone for their input, but there is
no “short order cook” around here! I’m with Beth!
Well I’ve tried to read all the pages but I’m just out of it. So I’m going to bed early! See you all tomorrow. Take care, meg from chilly Omaha

Hello everyone. My January goal will be to
recover from Holiday food and travel and drink more water. The thought of travelling home in too-tight jeans has prodded me to get back on that wagon, eat better and get off my duff. Took a 3 mi walk yesterday on a local trail and an hour walk around the hospital today while Dad was at his appt.

Yippee for me!! I finally submitted my application to the school system in the county in which I live. I probably need to do the same for the city in which I live, but that county pays very poorly. Some of the jobs pay so little for the amount of abuse the employees have to put up with! I'm getting ready to sign up with a site to send me new job postings so that I don't have to scroll through the same ones over and over.
Unless I totally go beserk, I should finish my day under calorie goal again. Trying so hard to get the discipline back.
Sylvia - I hope you can let us know soon how everything turned out with the grandchildren and your son. I'm so sorry your day was interrupted.
I have officially been released from PT. I feel like I'm leaving friends. Even the front desk folks invited me to stop in and see them when I was down that way!
I'm hoping that the boy child will get up and take me to work in the morning and go searching for a truck. I know the fashion is to do everything online, but not every used car lot has an online presence! He did get up this morning and make calls but no one is answering the phones at the school. I think I might need to check with him and see if he is calling multiple departments to see if he can just get a live person.
It snowed today!!! It was only flurries and it was a little too warm to stick around, but it was sure pretty. Maybe that will be all that we get this year. *fingers crossed*
I bought four bone-in chicken breasts yesterday. I invited Andrew to make something with them but, alas, they're still raw. I'd love to figure out a low enough calorie recipe for chicken and dumplings except made with gnocchi. I guess I need to call up my friend, Google, and see what I can find.
Katla - I am so sorry to hear about your wrist! I hope you've been to the doctor and have a real cast by now.
I think I'll try to get in a few more steps and maybe have enough calories for some hot chocolate before bed. It's cold here!
Good night!

I seem to be detecting that several
of us are having the same experience today of wanting more food--it is almost making me jittery!!! Hope we can all get back in the saddle without going crazy.
Beth, I agree today was way too cold. Slow going on the commute and the office never really warmed up. Took a walk at lunch and had no desire to mosey; facial skin was pretty stiff for a while! We really had been getting spoiled with temps over 30...
Pip, I would think that the workplace would encourage your health by letting you have mfp. But it is work thus is illogical. I am still wondering why it was okay for me to take an active shooter safety class but not first aid and CPR. If the personnel people keel over I am not certified to help them I guess.
Watched Downton last night and was glad there were some happy moments.
If the ulterior motive of mfp is to keep us so busy reading posts that we have less time to eat we are well on the way to be losing a lot of weight in the coming year, based on the number of posts there are lately!

I'm sorry!! I wish I could help! Here's a ((HUG))!! Tomorrow is a new day! Maybe the sun will shine down on you and give you new hope!0 -
Just tried to catch up with all the news of the day. What an amazing group of women!
I was able to get in 4.5 miles today with my little one's, and yes they are my children they are 6 and 9. I also have 2 much older children, one in the Navy and the other becoming a fireman. I eat out of boredom and stress and my body is starting to let me down, actually I'm probably letting it down. I have logged everything and exercised in some way since the 1st. I am determined to make this lifestyle change.
Heather UK- talk all you want and use as many British words as you can. I lived in the UK for 2.5 years and LOVED every minute of it and even though it has been many years I still miss it.
trublutopaz- sorry your having a rough day.

Mia: I hope you reach your goal weight at a satisfying pace, but the words "final goal weight" gives me the willies.
Linda: Thanks for your kind words. I'm inconvenienced but not in pain. My appointment to get a real cast is not until Wednesday & we have to drive into Portland. If I want it done close to home I have to wait until Friday. :noway:
Sylvia: Hugs to you and your wonderful DH, to your grandchildren, and to your son. :flowerforyou:
Dr. Katie: I haven't seen a doctor yet. The person who took care of me at the urgent care center is a Physician's Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. She did a good job putting me in a temporary cast. My diagnosis came from her. I'll see a doctor Wednesday. It is "closed fracture of distal end of right radius, unspecified fracture morphology." I've seen the x-ray. I'm anxious to get the cast but have been told that time had to go by for swelling to go down anyway. I know what I want, but it may be unrealistic. I want to go riding Saturday. Wish me amazing luck.
Alison: Congrats on carrots, an excellent choice. We can do this! :flowerforyou:
Terri: You know me very well. I don't want to miss my riding lesson. We'll see how it goes.
Noorah: I love your "will do" attitude & hobbies. They're a good foundation for a happy & healthy life. That is what makes success. Welcome.
Miriam: Your girls look happy. Nothing is better than that!
Suzanne, FL: Tracking is the very best goal. Good luck, & stop by often for support. :flowerforyou:
Pat, Atlanta: Welcome! Jump in & join the conversation. Some of us are new like you, and others have been around for quite a while. I met my goals but stay for the support & healthy outlook. I know I'll backslide if I don't stay disciplined & log my food. The encouragement here is amazing. :flowerforyou:
Wednesday I get my official cast & leave the temporary one behind. I'm thinking of hot pink or purple. Turquoise would also be appealing. I hope to get my fingers back. This temporary cast goes all the way frpm above my elbow to just beyond my fingertips. :noway: :grumble:

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening Ladies,
Mia, fantastic job of decluttering and what a wonderful way to throw a party. Good for you!!
CarolGA, my exercise consists of very little cardio. I mostly do stretching type things and light weights also. That is one reason I decided to do my two 5 minute moving activities. Just to mix it up a little. (actually very little)
Linda, good for you in walking away from the kitchen when you really “wanted” something sweet.
Sylvia, so sorry your plans were interrupted. Do you think if your son went in the hospital that he wouldn’t get out or is that just a worry he has? Keeping you and whole family in my prayers. ((((Hugs))))
Kay, I’m so proud of you for going to the gym. It sounds wonderful. I’m just trying to picture you “flailing around while everybody else did Pilates”. Lol
Lisa, well said on the work outs.
Miriam, the girls are so cute!!! Thanks for sharing.
to all the Newbies. This is a wonderful place for support and information. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
I'm only through page 12 but have to stop for the night and head to the bed. Tonight at the Moose I was a good girl and had a salad with chicken on it for dinner. I did have one drink but took my diet tonic with me. lol Tomorrow is another day to eat healthy and I'll be moving at line dancing, so that will be my exercise for the day.
I hope all of you have a healthy and happy day.
Words I live by:
Savor. I have to slow down and savor every bite.
and
Opportunity. Each day offers new opportunities for good health and happiness if we just look for them and choose them.
I Love you,

Yay! I won high score at bridge tonight. Another 75 cents for the change jar! We each put in a quarter; high score gets 75 cents and second high gets 25. We are such high stakes gamblers!

mollywhippet wrote: »SanfordRoberts, what kind of art do you do? Is it your studio or a community studio of some kind? I love my pottery studio but it is terribly lonely there. I'm working on ways to get some more people in there, like turning my gallery into an artist's coop. I hope that works out. I have a load of plates in the kiln right now that some kids made at a birthday party, but it was too hot to unload. They were really cute going in, so I hope they turn out well. San Diego is such a beautiful place!
Hi @mollywhippet
I have a studio that is in a building with about 12 other artists. I started there mainly to have a place to keep my stuff and to work, but I have loved the community of artists that are there very much. An added bonus. I design theatrical scenery for a living and my personal artwork is 'mixed-media', collage based. I work with old papers and vintage books/etc. I will try to post a picture...

Katla: So sorry about your wrist injury. My worse fear is slipping on ice. You are so determined, I'm sure you'll find a way to saddle up this Saturday.
Vicki: I will send you a private message with more info about being my remote reiki partner.
It's late so have to make this short. Welcome to all the new ladies joining us. I hope you'll keep coming back. You'll find this a great 'home', and by this time next year, YOU will be welcoming the 2017 class.
I was recently thinking to how many of you I’ve had the pleasure to meet in person. Such an awesome privilege, and I hope to add more MFP meet ups in the coming year. My business trips start again next week. This month I’ll be in Westchester County, NY, El Paso, Texas and NYC and Central New Jersey. If you are near any of these towns and want to meet up, let me know. Likewise, if you are travelling to the Denver area, let me know.
Good news: I have to get my driver’s license renewed, and noticed today that the weight I put down last time is 23 pounds more than where I am today. I know I fudged that number big time because I didn't own a scale at that time and only weighed once a year at the doctors office.
Bad news: I am having mega-issues with the password to unlock my work email. I’ll be on the phone with the help desk bright and early tomorrow. Ugh.
Good news#2: I found an app called “Gratitude Journal”. Just a few days of journaling and my mood is much better.
Stay well. We can do this.
Rori

January Goals:
> Benchmark my average daily step count, and increase by 20%
> Eat mindfully
> Start a gratitude journal
> Reach out to 3 friends
> Get mammogram, physical, haircut and eye exam scheduled

Did a segment of the Butt Lift DVD I have, held my plank for 2 min 47 seconds (one more second that before), then the extremepump class.
Linda - good for your sister, bad for your BIL
Katla - I can't see why you can't ride with a cast on your wrist. Now if it was a full arm cast, that might be a different story.
Carol in NC - saw that post about the jeans, too and thought it so cute
Lenora - Vince has a loaded gun in a safe by his bedside. All the other guns are locked away in the big safe
Welcome everyone new! This is a great place
lemonhead - happy birthday!
Heather - how wonderful that you've kept your commitment to your alcohol. Personally, I'm not much of a drinker. That is, UNLESS it is real real sweet wine. Even then, I'm just not much of a drinker. I probably should have some red wine every night for my, is it the LDL or the HDL -- one of them. But I just don't have any desire for it. So sorry for your aches
trublutopaz -- if you fell asleep, you body probably really needed it
Kim - all's I can say is that there are lots of things that happen in Season 6 of DA. Still haven't seen the last episode, tho. The gal hasn't gotten it yet from her son.
Joyce - how sweet about those girls
Allison - I made a mess in the kitchen yesterday. I made these cauliflower bread sticks, and when you cut up cauliflower you know how messy it can be. Well, Vince is one of these people who believes everything should be real clean and he commented (repeatedly) about how the floor was a mess and questioned if I should be walking on the rug, am I grinding it down into the rug etc. I finally said to him "I'll vacuum it when I can, but if you'd like to vacuum it in the meantime, that's fine". He went to the other garage. Good for you getting thru to Tom!
MaryGrace - boy, you sure have had a lot going on. So good that you have a handle on it.
Lisa - I never knew your workout. Very interesting! What is a "rolling stair stepper"?
After exercising went to the Salvation Army then home then senior bowling. After bowling we stopped at CVS since I needed vitamins and they were on sale BOGO, plus I had a $1 off coupon plus I got another $2 coupon from CVS, also got soup to donate. Tonight I go to a friend to pick up some parsley from her, then ceramics, then mahjongg. Update: she's having a bad day so I'll pick up the parsley on Wednesday. I think she's getting depressed.
The lady hosting mahjongg tonight made this "Russian Tea". It's basically tea with sugar and fruit juices, some cinnamon and cloves. I thought it was too much on the sweet side.
Denise called the other day, said that she thinks she found the place where she'd like to have the reception. She talked to Vince since she called his cell phone. From what he told me, she's looking at October of 2017. Yet, yesterday she was telling me how Pete's mother has ALREADY picked out her dress. A year and a half before the wedding?
Got very cold here today. I wore a coat. After dinner I left to go to ceramics (since then I leave to go to mahjongg and Vince usually stays). On my way there Vince called to say that he had severe diarrhea. It just came on, so he wouldn't be going to ceramics.
The plan for exercise tomorrow is to do some HIIT and then I volunteer at the Green Room.
Sylvia - you made me smile at the haircut comment
DJ - good plan to get exercise in
Carol/Peach - many times I really like having tuna. But our cats will not eat the tuna juice. Now give them salmon juice and watch them fight for it!
Barbi - the best advice I can give you is to LOG, LOG, LOG. Welcome!
tattytrue - what kind of exercise do you do? I'm always on the lookout for something diffferent
miriam - so glad there are no serious injuries, but so sorry you feel just the same
pip - how rude of your work!!!!
Sylvia - you are a true blessing to your son and his children
Melanie - I'm with you, I wouldn't want to be a 25year old again, either.
Alison - good for you choosing those carrots
Becca - feel better fast
NJ Linda - I'm originally from NJ. What part are you from?
NC Carol - good for you submitting your application. It's bitter sweet to leave PT, like you said, you're leaving your friends. But on the other hand, it's showing that you're getting stronger. We didn't have snow today. It was very cold, but that was all. I always prefer bone-in chicken breasts, I think they are a bit juicier.
trublutopaz - so sorry you're having a bad day. Tomorrow will be better.
Rori - do you need another partner? I think Reiki is so interesting

Rori, last year when I had my driver's license renewed, they couldn't understand why I wanted to come in and get a new picture taken. Well old picture was me at 233 pounds and new picture was 178 pounds, what's the problem! I sure wish I was still at that 178 pounds.
I am afraid to weigh myself but I have my annual physical Thursday so I guess I have no choice. There it is, in the raw. I only have a few health issues to ask him about otherwise I think I am stable. Maybe I should ask him about his weight gain.
Mary Grace, I looked up Murphysboro in comparison to where I am in Evansville. I am in extreme southern also, Kentucky right below us and Illinois right beside us and the Ohio river separating the three states.
Called the eye specialist again today and got my eval for my left eye scheduled. They again had no referral for my right eye so I called that office and asked. They said they didn't send any because he didn't see anything wrong with it!!!!!!! I told them what I remember of our conversation about the vitreoul detachment. So the owner of the clinic called the doctor who did my exam and he said he did talk to me about detachment but only before the exam as an explanation of what it might be. He says my vision is 20/25. So why do I have my font on my screen at 150% right now???? So my exam with the specialist is Feb 3rd and it is his practice to dilate both eyes and examine both of them. I will also mention it to my own family doctor.
I also got my husbands phone straightened out today. The SIM card of the old one is expired so they will send me a new one and when it gets here I am to call them and have them transfer the minutes from the new phone back to the old one and get a new phone number in my daughter's area. I guess I will mail it to her but it is pretty light. I was kind of afraid to talk to her about it at Christmas since I hate confrontations but her sister had let her know how unhappy I was. Then I told Christina a big reason was that I wanted her to have a phone that actually rang because of all her Dad's health problems. tonight he was weak enough it took both of his arms to get himself off the couch. He just feels bad overall. He also has an appointment this week with one of the cardiologist that handles the irregular rhythm.
Sylvia, what is your take on your son's health. Does he really seem ill enough that this time in the hospital he might not go home? A mother;s instinct is pretty good.
Allison, I am so proud of the both of you. As you were describing the two of you working in the kitchen together, it sounded like progress and then what he said. I hope he will accept counseling. I think you are kind of like me in how we feel about marriage. I am glad I stuck it out and my daughters are to. I don't know how I would feel if my grand daughters didn't know their grandpa if we had ever divorced like it was on my mind so many times.
I think Charlie ate the last of any food that was leftover from this weekend that would be bad for me. Well there is still a good bit of the ham left and I know it is high in sodium. I really need to freeze some of that so he doesn't eat it as snacks. I had a nice small turkey breast meat sandwich for lunch today. YUM.
I have been looking to see what I could use as the first area to declutter. I cleaned the living room and family room and my bedroom before our family was here last weekend but I usually declutter and then move the declutter into the office and the piles get higher. I guess I just found what area needs to be the first room.

This made me laugh. I had not gotten a new DL since my 125# loss. I had not been asked for ID in ages, while shopping a young cashier asked for ID. She looked at it, looked up at me and asked "is this you?" I did the happy dance all the way to my car. Congrats! Great NSV, thanks for sharing.

Great news, found out this morning that t he RV "resort" (that cracks me up) has water aerobic classes every morning at 9:00 am. Unfortunately, it rained most of the day and it's going to continue thru Friday. Maybe my nasty cold will be gone by then.
Good night ladies. Love and hugs to all.

Michele in NC, I live near Atlantic City, was born in western NY, currently in last week of visit to Denver.
Everyone, I'm glad to see all the support in this group.
I started MFP 16 mos ago, picked the slowest rate to lose, to avoid the rebellion effect, and started using Youtube for zumba workouts. July 2015 i started the 30 day Beginning Weight Lifting that popped up in the daily blogs. Ive been gradually adding exercises and increased from 3lb to 10lb dumbbells since then. Expected to lose 10 lb, hoped to lose 20, and really lost 30. Now aiming to be healthy and strong. Faithful logging really shows me the impact of my food choices. Come Tax season, I'll have to start skimming the posts, I'll be even less visible. This forum begins and ends my day. I'm rooting for all of you. :-D0
