Hi - I'm new to MFP and I just found this forum. Wow, what a friendly, active, supportive group!

I'm Rosie, and I'm 56 years old. I recently retired, and DH (who is also retired) & I moved a few months ago to the greater Sacramento CA area.

I joined MFP because my weight has been creeping up and my jeans are getting entirely too snug.

I just want to say hi for now, I'll chime in more once I read thru the posts and get the lay of the land here.

    Cheers, - Rosie wavesmile.gif

well I botched it last night, after the carrots I had, went to the freezer and got a bag of cookies ate them and then had 2 bowls of rice krispies.. good God when will I get a grip?
have to work 9-6 today and the schedule is crammed.. which means we might not even get lunch.. trying to figure out what to make to take.. going in this early I will not be going down to see DFIL, I went yesterday and he was feisty,,,, he said dont go away mad ,just go away... but got his wheaties and milk into him.
the troll was her usual self as soon as I walked in, Diane had gone out so she was barking at me to answer the phone and pull charts, I hadnt even punched in yet, and while I was away they chnaged the dentrix system they use on the computer a bit so I was floundering with that..
I did not miss her one bit...
Tom seems a bit better than he has been, a little more attentive,
I slept like a rock last night...
Sylvia~ did you get the hard cast on? and how are you feeling dear?

Morning everyone, had a good 90minute walk last night really enjoyed it. I am aiming to go out every evening either on my own or with my husband which is better. I definitely want to move more to shift this weight that is getting me down. Does anyone else have any ideas of getting rid of my spare tyre (fat around my waist)? Any exercise ideas? (my back sometimes is not good, I need to strengthen my muscles but not sure what to do). A lot of you talk about strength training - any suggestions on what I should try?

    Best wishes to everyone.

elaine mornin' i have a lot of weight around my belly, and ab cruches are no fun...there are plenty of women doing great exercise routines here . Here is what works for me,
Variety on top of routine..when i have no imagination or will to exercise, i always do basic cardio that is walking, jogging, elliptical machine and the like, it totally lifts my mood. Now the real progress happens when i add a free youtube clip of pilates, classical stretch or kettlebells. I know that i am going to add strength training someday!!!! Too intimidated to start that but with the cardio comittment i have improved my b.p. to gwt off the meds and improved my anxiety to stay off the meds! I call that a win.
Like i said there are a lot of women with exercise routines on this forum so keep reading and just keep trying.
rori when will u be in westchester?

all you new peeps on here......just unload all your MENTAL BAGGAGE onto the white part of the screen. We have professional cleaners that come once a week so no worries. Vent, scream, but no whining, or stomping of your feet, cuz we just laugh and point.... (just kidding). In this little thread are people you can count on, people that can motivate you, and people you can trust. Me, oh I am just the weird one. They keep me on for sh!ts, and giggles truly! You know that place that rains, but not as much as Washingtonians, but we use it as a marketing tool.

Referring to Oregon’s tourist industry in a 1971 speech, McCall may have first publicly voiced his famous “Come visit, don’t stay” slogan: “I urge them to come and come many, many times to enjoy the beauty of Oregon. But I also ask them, for heaven’s sake, don’t move here to live.”
hahaha found that funny. We Oregonians are a weird lot.

    You are funny!!! Thank you.

Happy new year to all. I ran across this group today, and thought I'd introduce myself. I am not one to make resolutions but do goal set. I'm 51 (soon to be 52) and live in Northern Alberta, Canada. I loved to learn fitness years ago, but find it a moving target, and constantly evolving for me. I am a reformed cardio bunny who found weight lifting & loved it. It is now my mainstay. An injury in April set me back, and after months off, am getting back to my routine. So my goals thus far are:

    1. Consistently strive for 3 weight workouts per week, with optional day of cardio.
    2. Log daily to track my macros
    3. Learn to find balance between work & play.

That's about all for now. I don't always have time to check these forums regularly but will try to keep up. Look forward to meeting all of you.

    Cindy from Alberta

Welcome Cindy, good goals. I am trying to get weight lifting into my routines. I have a few Leslie Sansone DVD's and she uses weights in some of them. My latest is "Tone Every Zone". Silly me... I did both upper and lower body in one session, only used 2 lb weights but next day and today feeling a little stressed in some areas.... ha ha not as tough as I thought I was. :)

Lillian in West Central Saskatchewan..... just next door to you.

Michele in NC – the rolling stairstepper is a machine where you aren’t pushing down on pedals with your feet, but literally walking up a set of stairs that moves, much like an escalator. You can set the speed, and set resistance, so it pushes back against you pushing down onto the stair with each step. Since I mentioned it on here, I got back on it again yesterday, and made it through six minutes… :) Tells you how tough I find it.

Katla – I have such admiration for those who can relearn any movement left-handed. Literally the only thing I do competently with my left hand is work that side of a keyboard. If I put a pencil or a ball in my left hand and attempt to use it, my whole brain gives up and walks away, shaking its head. Good wishes for all kinds of luck on your Wednesday visit to the doc…hope you're riding again on Saturday.

Carol in NC – so pleased you’re reaching out for different and hopefully better work! Hope it all works out well.

Jennifer in FL – I lived in the UK for two different military tours, as well – one at Lakenheath RAFB in Sussex, and one at Greenham Common RAFB, near Newbury, before they closed it permanently under the INF Treaty. We’ve got a few UK residents on here as well as Heather, I love “listening” to how they talk, brings good memories for me, as well.

Trublutopaz – hope today is better.

    SanfordRobert – Love your stuff!

Blew a breaker this morning as soon as I turned on my little coffeepot, as I had two heaters plugged in and running, as well. It’s a little chilly this morning… And, of course, when I went outside to flip the breaker back on, it was raining. Gah. Really need to get an electrician in to rewire this whole place… but, that’s going to wait awhile, along with everything else. Still have my cowboy boots on with my pajamas, looks just incredibly fascinating and stylish, you know. Actually, I’ve met bag ladies who look better.

Slept more than seven hours last night! Am sleeping better and better at the warehouse, which is kind of awesome. But because I am by nature a worrywart, it also makes me wonder if my husband and I will grow further apart if I spend more time in town… beyond the physically further apart, I mean. He laughed at me when I mentioned it… I usually have a “WoW” (worry of the week) that makes him snortle. My best friend of 30+ years and I decided long ago that the world keeps spinning on its axis only because we worry.

Don't miss being on vacation-it was exactly long enough to make me glad to get back. Sure will miss being able to exercise when I want and do what I want when I want to if I do end up finding a management job. *sigh* The realities of life. Retirement's still a ways off for me. We just need me working for a few more years.

Anyway, off to the races this morning... Going to go to the gym and shower in a bit, so I look presentable. Wish me luck. :hushed:

Lisa in wet, rainy, cold West Texas... but sunny and 60s the rest of the week

    Good morning -
trublutopaz Hang in there and make sure to take steps to take care of yourself. Maybe a short walk, or some stretching, or a healthy meal that you spend some time making just for yourself. Focus on you.

Katla You don't happen to have a Mac, do you? Seriously, the built-in dictation saved my sanity when I couldn't use my right hand. I feel your frustration.

I'm doing well with staying on track with exercise and food. However, my knee is more than sore (I think injured possibly) today so as much as I want to push through the P90x3 routine today, I have to be rational about this. I think opting for swimming might be the better choice. Or maybe nothing. There's a fine line between being sore and pushing through vs. being injured and making it worse. My mind isn't very logical in that area.

Food is planned. Knee is being iced. Advil taken. Work emails read. ...maybe go back to bed??? No!!!! I will not do that! Gosh, so tempting. Having that low key week between Christmas and New Years was very pleasant.

    One more cup of coffee.

    Stay well

    Hello Everyone!
Heather I am still running! In fact running strong...... Gone through a couple of Half marathons. But if the weight which has slowly crept up had gone the other way, would have been faster too!!!
There were some issues with my thyroid meds, being too low, rectified, then the doc decreased my dosage further n the weight jumped back.
Got to deal with it n the diet.....
Logged in 3rd day in a row and can see how I was eating way beyond my target. Reading even a few posts is always motivating!
    Have a great day ladies!
So many new ladies to befriend and get to know!

Some of you may remember my story from earlier posts (like many months ago earlier posts) that my husband was looking for a new job. Well the husband was let go from his job yesterday at 2 pm. A company cleansing shall we say to save their financial butts. Our first morning together. Praying he finds employment and soon. However, knowing this day was to come he has been searching since last February. Over 100 applications, 17 interviews (phone, Skype and in person) and no takers. He is trying to make the jump from for-profit education to state/public education. He has come in 2 nd choice in about all those interviews. Sigh..... anyone need a Director of Career Services? I've been stress eating and will leave it at that. Luckily I have PT this morning for an hour so I will get in a workout from that. I feel a headache coming on....ugh.

Happy Tuesday to all my MFP friends!

I'm a newbie and looking for motivation and to motivate! :) I posted 3 time already and they are not coming out right. I'll figure this out so bare with me. I'm Deb and I turn 50 this month. I'm limited for exercise due to injury, so anyone with walking ideas, I'm all ears. I've gone back to school to finish my BS and I'm also, like many of you, attempting to remove the clutter, both physical and mental, from my life. Here's to a great 2016 where we can clean out the clutter!!

Hi Everyone! This is my first time here. I look forward to getting to know everyone. I am 53......Soon to be 54. I live in Minnesota and it is getting COLD outside. I need to lose 50 more lbs.
I am married (34 years) to my high school sweetheart. We have 3 grown children and 6 grandchildren.
I have been on more "diets" than I can count, but MFP seems to work the best for me. I use the treadmill and walking outside to get my exercise.
I would like to strength train but I am too shy to do it in a gym.
Hope everyone has a fantastic day!

Cheri - Has your hubby checked with colleges, including community colleges? I randomly see those types of positions open when I'm cruising the local college websites for jobs.

Alison - I didn't do as well as I'd hoped after dinner. Finished off the last of a container of Danish cookies. :disappointed: However, they are all gone now so no more temptation.

Lisa - You have so many marketable skills that working as a retail manager seems to be beneath your skill level. Have you checked into telecommuting so that you could do something that would challenge you? Then, again, maybe you want something that you don't have to stress over. Sorry. I'll go back to minding my own business.

I, on the other hand, am constantly told that I could do this or that but I don't have the confidence to try.

    Still worrying about Sylvia...

Katla - Sorry you have to wait, but have been there with my son when he's broken bones.

And, that's about the extent of my short-term memory!

I'm off to go wander around the building for a bit and get in some steps. I've been marvelously productive this morning, so I think I'm due a little break.

JanetR - close enough to DG, it's Family Dollar stores... and once I'm done there, I'm going to pop over to WorkForce Development, the state agency, and find out the details on the career fair TDCJ is holding these next couple days (Texas Department of Criminal Justice). There are two correctional facilities in close proximity, and they're doing a couple things tomorrow and Thursday. Don't want to be a correctional officer, but wouldn't mind working in an office again. I think. We'll see. The benefits, of course, are amazing. The pay is... eh. But even minimum wage is more than I'm bringing in at the moment. And thanks for the cheerleading when you feel like ca-ca, but you HAVE to stop wiping your nose on your pom-poms, people will talk!

Good morning ladies! I'm still trying to get the puppy biting under control. Anybody interested in joining the BLC I did it the last time and really enjoyed the challenges and people I met on that thread. It also help me to lose some weight and stay focused. Weigh in starts on the 7-10 and the challenge starts on the 11th.

    Hi all!
Was hungry in the night so I had a protein bar. It certainly put me back to sleep! Logged it.
Unfortunately it was a yoga day, so not many calories burned. This afternoon I got on the recumbent bike, watched a property show online and burned off 285 more calories. :drinker: Still got to declutter my holiday drawer. DH is painting.

I will be snacking on carrots and celery this pm as I want to save enough for a fish and prawn soup tonight with rouille and a touch of grated cheese. I'm counting 475 for that. :D<3

It was lovely to get back to yoga and see all the girls. (We are mostly over 65) Lots of catching up. :) We talked about a quality we would like to have. I said Spontaneity.
I'm bowing out of the WI meeting tonight as my friend is ill and it's mainly an administration meeting. Never mind. I do feel a bit guilty, but too bad. >:)

    Must do my drawer. o:)

ps: I want you to know I did ALL of my post left handed. I WANT MY RIGHT HAND FINGERS BACK!!! Katla the Grump

My experience made me realize that children should learn to be ambidextrous...using my left hand was frustrating to say the least. My employer purchased Dragon Speak for my computer and although it had a learning curve, it kept me working! It's harder 61 to become 'flexible' lol!! Without surgery, it should be 8 weeks to heal tops! You can do it!
