I tried on UK size 10 dress, it fitted, I bought the size 12 - my brain isn't ready!! When does the brain catch up???1

^^This so much! I had exactly what I wanted at Chik-fil-a last night, and it fit perfectly in my calories for the day.
One of my own to add (finally). That you can sometimes get this weird dissociative feeling when looking at random body parts, thinking "those can't be my thighs... they're not big enough."3 -

Love this thread! Here are mine....
- How you feel when reflecting back on your journey and feeling a little sad when thinking about how you waited so long to do this for the sake of your health and self-esteem. Although I'm very happy with my weight loss so far and am excited about the future I wish I would have had the mindset to start much sooner than I did.
- Compliments about your body that others give that you don't see yourself.
- How you lose weight in smaller places: my feet I have much more space in my shoes, ring slides around on my finger and hardly stays upright but instead turns to the side.
- How much day in and day out you constantly think about the whole process...food and the decisions you have to make, how much of that I can eat so that I reserve calories to have when meeting friends for dinner, how much you hope to lose in the next week, what time you will go workout, not feeling like working out and forcing yourself to go so you don't feel guilty, what size you hope you will be on your next clothes shopping trip, ...the list goes on lol!5 -
- The self-control you learn during dieting is also useful as self-control with other social situations
- Feeling more in control of cravings, especially at parties
- Getting yourself up after a bad day costs so much energy, but the day after you will be glad you did it3 -
Being sore all the time, especially when you've done strenght training. And when it is finally gone? You just repeat the whole cycle again.5
-
-Being able to cross your legs when sitting.
-When acquaintances notice your weight loss and ask how you've done it.

Two people who hadn't seen me in some time complimented me today on my weight loss, then added, "I hope it was intentional, and not disease?" So maybe others who say nothing are afraid I might be ill?
Surprise! I can eat a few squares of good chocolate, and save the rest for another day. Time was, I'd not have believed I could.

I understand! I'm over 2 and a half years maintaining and my brain still hasn't fully caught up. Still can't believe I wear medium/sometimes small clothes. They look so small to me when I look at it, but they fit perfectly.1 -

Things I wasn't prepared for:
- Family/friends saying they want to also lose weight and then in the same breath start making excuses for why they can't.
- How long it would take for my brain to catch up with my body. I've lost 2 st and 2 dress sizes in the last year and even though I know that I'm so much smaller and I can see the huge difference, even now when someone compliments me, calls me pretty, or straight-up hits on me, a part of me doesn't believe they could be genuine. It's like I keep forgetting I'm not overweight anymore.
I wonder if my brain will ever catch up with my body...Not seeing what people are saying.
I didn't see it either, until I printed out two face pictures, one two months before I started this, and one at the fifty pound loss mark, then laid them side by side. Only then was I able to see it.
I have before and now pictures and still doesn't seem real..
Same here, I can look at myself in the mirror and not see the new me, I know im in way smaller clothes, I know that people tell me that im like a skinny brother I dont have but when I see pictures I cant believe its me. I just dont see that in the mirror2 -

Yes yes and yes. And if you cook your own food to be more accurate, I summed it up once as: planning, shopping, chopping, slicing, dicing, cutting, peeling, weighing, cooking3 -

-looking at my legs and still "seeing" a size 16 leg, but knowing I am a size 4. (This is a big one, not knowing how much the psychological stuff affects you even after losing all the weight)
-being a little over bearing on my family for drinking soda/eating sweets non-stop
I have the same experience with still "seeing" my size 16 body, even though I know I am a MUCH smaller size now! I wonder how long it will take to get used to?1 -
No one told me that it would hurt so much more for my 80lb dog to climb in my lap! I am so much bonier than I was before!2

THIS is me. I finally decided that I simply cannot turn 50 in this body. Better late than never. I hope to come back to this thread soon with discoveries of my own.

How, when you're over 6ft, it takes more than a few pounds for anyone to notice. I lost 13st a few years back, and it wasn't until over 4st lost that anyone (even my then significant other) noticed. There's a lot more surface area for fat to drop from!
On the plus side, when the scales tip up again after a bad week...nobody notices an extra pound or two
It does make me envy short people though - 15lbs on a tiny person is a big difference, 15lbs on me is barely one dress size! (After 13st, I had gone from a 32 to a 20, so only 7 sizes!)
How it affects the other parts of your life when you realise you can reach ambitions. You get more organised and start believing in yourself more. That's a lovely feeling
(Disclaimer: still have about 5st to go...but I stick to the above as my experiences so far!)
The bolded. I've started going back to school. One class at a time, but this started one pound at a time so here we go!8 -

This happens to me ALL the time! Specifically with my thighs!1 -
That most of the time I think I'm thinner than I am. I'm always grabbing what ends up being 10's at a thrift store. Even when I was sz 20/22+. At some point I wonder if I get into 6's if I'll still go for 10's. I'm into 14's, so I'm getting close!6

Haha I have this issue too! Everyone keeps saying their brain isn't catching up, but mine's well ahead! I'm like "oh man I'm so thin now, I'm doing so great! I bet I'm a size 7!"
*can't get a 7 up past my thighs* lolol
I'm not in any rush though, just taking my time with it, enjoying the journey. I'm super duper happy with my progress so far. Every half inch is cause for a huge celebration in my books
I should also note that my weight gain is recent which probably has somethingto do with this. I gained about 30 pounds in 6 months during a very stressful time in my life. So it still feels natural to go for smaller sizes.9 -
Thrift store 10 is going to be department store 6 or thereabouts- vanity sizing!1

Me 3...lol. I've loss 6 dress sizes. When I look in the mirror I see myself smaller than I actually am...but when I look at a picture I feel like I'm still see a very large person. When I shop for clothes I just pull 2 sizes of everything to try on and usually both sizes fit and then I can't decide which size I want to buy...the more loose comfortable size or the smaller tighter size that I know will soon fit.
Losing the weight actually hasn't been all that hard...it's all these other decisions..lol.2 -
Well good for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!0

This is so true. I wear a size 10 in 1990's Mom jeans, but a size 6 in Old Navy Sweetheart jeans?
On the other hand, spandex IS my friend2 -

I love this thread so much. I always assumed there was just people who were wired to love exercise and I wasn't one of them but I've learned everyone can be that person, you just have to stick with it long enough to see some progress and it's such a motivator!11

I've got a painful blister on my foot from walking / running so much! I think it's time for me to treat myself to some new properly-fitted trainers!1
