I'm off to see my friend this afternoon for window shopping and a free afternoon tea. I will ask DH if it's ok to discuss his family drama with her. I hope he says yes, as I am such a "sharer". :ohwell:

Grits - I don't feel DH would like me spreading his family problem over the internet. Suffice it to say, we both had a pretty sleepless night, but he seems more composed this morning. Thanks for asking. :flowerforyou:

My yoga friend who had a cyst removed from her leg is still having trouble, so she will probably not make it to yoga tomorrow. I hope she can come along to our end of term pub outing (just coffee!!). My other yoga friend is off soon after Easter on her 60th birthday walk to Santiago de Compostela. From the French border, all the way across northern Spain to the the great pilgrim cathedral city. She has 37 hotel rooms booked. The longest day is 25 miles or so. She has been training for months and is very fit. She's also been learning Spanish. :D A small group of women is going together. It's not a religious trip, but rather a "rite of passage".
I have visited Santiago a few times - it's one of my favourite places. I went on my own the first time for my 50th birthday, but I didn't walk there!

Got to wash my hair now and make myself presentable. ;)

    Love Heather. UK

Good morning all! Happy Monday! Celebrating spring today with a Spring into Spring party! Kids come dressed as a sign of spring. I have had baseball players, birds, flowers, a spring chicken, and even a couple of rocks. I dress as mother nature. Should be fun.
I over did it this weekend. I blame the sunshine. It was just too beautiful outside NOT to take two long walks. Plantar fasciitis flare up. I find after I am up and walking a bit the shooting pain subsides; so I guess it is a good thing that I have a job where I am moving all day. I will be hitting the pool more often and perhaps trying to rein in my enthusiasm for spring. On my walk yesterday I found so many signs of spring. The crocus are blooming, tulips are beginning to bud, saw a few green acorns and many, many of the teeny, tiny baby pinecones from the fir trees. I also saw about four nests blown out of trees. And a very pregnant woman jogging with two toddlers in her jogging stroller. Wowsa! That's dedication!

Lisa- So sorry to hear of these losses! And the poor widow of the assistant range manager; to lose her dh and also her home... :( Praying that you are seeing the end of this.

    Heather
    - Love and hugs to you and your dh. As always your meal sounds divine. I would be in the same boat when meeting a friend for tea before she leaves for a trip. Friend time beats menu items every time! Sounds like she is in for an exciting trip.
Pip- Your less than 8 miles is still awesome! You inspire with your energy and good vibes!
Kim and other ladies- My name is Kelly; but KJ is also okay to call me as it is how I am referred to by my sibs and aunts/uncles. I am also known by "mom", "Miss Kel", "Mrs. LaMore" (which still makes me look around for my MIL), "cabbage" (another endearment from my childhood), and assorted other names which I shall not mention here due to the fact that I don't like to swear. Call me what you like, because I am sure I have been called worse, at one point or another! ;)
Maryam- So sorry for the recent loss of your mother! I lost my mother to cancer 23 years ago. It gets easier to bear, but is never easy to bear the loss. I will be keeping you and your son, Andrew in my prayers! How old is he?
Allie- Tell me again, where (state) you live? Snow?! I hope it's not coming my way! So sick of winter. Is Tom cranky bc you are leaving him to fend for himself? My dh would always throw little hissy fits whenever my schedule got busy to the point where he had to "do" for himself a couple days. He still wakes up grumpy and seems to grumble about things an awful lot. I swear he is going to be the neighborhood "old man" that chases kids off his grass. When he gets like this at Christmas, I call him Ebenezer or Scrooge. I wait for him to burst into the song "I Hate People" from the musical Scrooge.
Sylvia-My heart breaks for what you are dealing with in regards to your son's ex and your son. Hope you get some help in dealing with her.
Katla- Your dishwasher story reminds me of those old top loading dishwashers! My grandmother had one. I have noticed that a few brands are making top loaders again.

Kids arriving! Gotta fly. Love and hugs to all!

Yesterday I got caught up with my bff on the phone, first time i think in 18 years that we've let a month go by without touching base....dont like that feeling. Her son is going through the college waiting game as a music major as well --beth still waiting for college in nashville to let your son know?

I am aiming for a day upright, not coughing too much and eating right, heres to a productive and healing week for all.

KJ- I am in Connecticut... Tom is just cranky because he isn't happy.. Not Happy because he doesn't love me and would to have me out of his life, but doesnt want to lose someone who can cook, do laundry , mow the lawn and do all the running around and feeding his dad.. unhappy because he knows he would lose more if we split than stay together.. when we got married it was for better or worse, well this is the worse ,and there is no way in Gods green earth that I will throw away 20 yrs of building a life for him.. I still love him, and the pups and he will have to deal.. If he wants a divorce than he has to be the one to file ..and he wont because he will lose to much..

    Heather prayers for your family.

Lisa sorry to hear two such recent deaths.

Sylvia ((Hugs)). You might think about an Order of Protection. With that in place she can be arrested if she tries to have any contact with you. From what you have said her threat needs to be taken seriously. I know it gets complicated because of the children.

Katla hope things improve for DD.

Elizabeth Maryann sorry for the loss of your mother.

Heather thank you for bringing up the issue of being careful what you post. This is a public forum open to anyone. Like you that is why I haven't shared too many details about DS. Occasionally it I think it helpful I will privately e-mail someone to discuss more private matters.

:)Anna, best wishes for a successful visit with the orthopedist....try using the the "broken record technique (like a broken record that repeats the same short phrase over and over)--just quietly and firmly and repeatedly say exactly the same thing over and over in response to whatever the doctor says.

:'(<3Sylvia,sending hugs to you at this trying time

<3Heather, sending hugs to you and your DH as he struggles with his family troubles.

:)<3Alison, I know you won't change, but it seems to me that if Tom complains about everything you do, you should stop doing so much...let him fix his own meals and do his own household chores for awhile and use the extra time for you.

:)Pip, hugs to you and Kirby and those darling dogs

:) I'd write more, but my breakfast is finished and Brandy is staring at me to go walking.

    Thank you margaretturk :)

grandmallie, is your husband open to trying to make things work? If so, maybe you guys can plan several date nights where you romance each other (like you did when you first met). If not, maybe you can do the romancing from your side and hope and pray that it will touch his soul.

Schools are closed here today due to our snowstorm taking place now.

Have a wonderful day everyone :)

Good morning! Just fat fluffy snowflakes near Buffalo this morning.

Karen ... Son's music audition is April 2nd! He and his dad are going to drive to Nashville ... Leaving on the 31st. I'll stay home to take care of our older son ... Which is probably a good thing as I get very nervous with things like recitals, auditions, etc. He should know quickly whether he was accepted into the music school ... It's the scholarship portion we'll be sweating. Without one I see no possible way for him to attend school there ...

KJ ... Mother Nature, huh? I've heard it's not nice to fool with Mother Nature!

Margaret ... I agree ... Some things are private and shouldn't be shared on public forums.

Vicki ... Thinking of you this morning.

Pip ...thinking of you and Kirby as well.

Hugs to those who need them!

I can't check in as often as I'd like so it's hard to keep up with the chatter. But this I can't miss - Heather that sweet granddaughter is adorable. I just want to kiss her little cheeks!!!
My first week went well - I didn't stay exactly within my calories, but I never used all of my exercise ones. I didn't lose much though, a little less than a pound. However, I'm on my way and that's what matters!
Any tips on getting my water in? That's a tough one for me. Also, need to step up my walking. Got 8,000 steps each day except yesterday got 11,000! I figured it wasn't bad for a newbie, but I'm ready to push it this week.
    Have a fantastic week everyone!

KJ ~ Your plans for the day sound like such fun! Know you are a blessing for the children in your care.

Pip ~ Good luck to you and Kirby at the hospital.

KLanders ~ I saw your pic and told DH I am so glad we don't live up North. It is in the 30's/40's here today but sunny!

Heather ~ Good thoughts for you and hubby. I hope the family situation won't send him into a tail spin. Your tea with friends sounds like fun.

Have walked the Pom, made the bed, and am washing a load of clothes. Really need to vacuum and dust.

Hi, everybody--it seems that even a quick skim shows that lots of us are hurting lately-- hugs to all who need them. Welcome new people!
Those of you with arthritis experience: DH was improving with PT and the gel. We even went for an hour walk together. Then last week he decided to try the elliptical and within two minutes he was back to pain mode and got off. Since then he is back to the cane and is in a lot of pain. Is this normal? He is going to PT tomorrow again but not to the doctor till next week. I do not understand this thing at all. Can the pain get this bad and improve again with losing weight and doing the exercises and taking the meds or are we looking at knee replacement?
I wrote down some questions for the doctor to answer because I think he is not thinking clearly when he is there. Wondering if I should tag along (hard to tell if that is advisable or not). He is understandably grumpy but I am having a hard time with that.
Trying really hard to take care of myself as I gaze out at the yard and see all the stuff he normally does that I am afraid I might have to take on this spring. I am beginning to think there will not be enough hours in the day..

    Hi gals,

Heather – sending love to you and DH –

Gayle – there are so many steps between her home and the hospital/nursing home… hope you find the right place for her

Pip – thinking of you and Kirby

Betty – I’m single but if I have a serious or ongoing medical issue I always like to have someone with me to listen and ask the questions that my not 100% brain doesn’t ask.

When my DH is going to the doctor with a problem I go with him so that I can understand and be supportive. I ask my questions when it is my turn, but let him take the lead. He doesn't seem to mind, nor does the doctor. My DH is the decider. If it is okay with him, I'm there, too. It is nearly always okay with him. Good luck. :flowerforyou:

Good morning everyone! Happy Monday! I hope everyone is ready for a great week of healthy eating and exercise! It is beautiful outside here today. I got up early to get my workouts in. Now I will work on my walking goal of 5 miles today. I will probably surpass that because of the beautiful weather.

    Stronglifts Workout

    Squat-1X5X 95/100/105/110/115, 5X5X 120
    Sumo squats-5X5X105
    0HP-1X5X 45/50/55/60, 5X5X 50
    DL-1X5X 135

    10,000 Kettlebell Swing Challenge

    Russian Kettlebell Swing- 25X 10 X 30 = 250

    Day 21 Challenge Total = 7,590

    Walking Challenge

Goal of at least 5 miles

I combined the StrongLifts work out with the kettle bell swing work out. After every lift I did a set of kettle bell swings.

    Have a great day everyone!

:) The best tip for everything is to be mindful....I have adopted staying fit and healthy as my hobby....I seek every opportunity to be active.....I treat drinking water like a prescribed medicine and have developed a water drinking schedule and a visible place to keep track. Keep coming back here and you'll get lots of good ideas and encouragement.

    Hi all!
I'm back from the free tea and had a lovely time. :D It was sandwiches, scones, clotted cream and jam and a pot of tea. I calculated I had 550 calories worth, but I had eaten a minuscule lunch, so should break even on the day. It's a no alcohol day, which will help.
Had a lovely long chat with my friend. DH gave me permission to "share" with her, so that was a relief. She has had plenty of troubles in her own life so is very understanding.

Bought easy food for tonight - chunky cod, asparagus and tsatsiki. I also bought some "picnic" food to have on the train when we go up on Wednesday. We are catching the 11.40 and won't be at DS's until 2 pm.

Love to all. Pretty as it looks, I'm glad we don't have snow! :noway: Lovely photo though.

Good morning! I hope you are all having a wonderful morning.

I took the kids to school this morning. It's nice to get back into our morning routine. Then I ran several errands for my son. Got his oxygen tanks filled, then he wanted me to go pay his cable bill and put some money in his bank account but when I went to the bank and the cable company they werent open yet. When I took his tanks back he told me, "oh, its not through the cable company, our cable is through AT&T". So, I went back to the bank and deposited $80 because that was the amount he said he was overdrawn, then went to AT&T where they said he had a zero balance because the automatic payment was processed yesterday. I called him and he checked with his bank and that payment had not posted yet, so I had to go back to the ATM and then back to the bank to deposit ANOTHER $85 to cover the cable payment.

On the way to school, the girls mentioned that their dad's friend Michelle spent the night the last few nights. WHAT!!! Boy, did I feel like a first class patsy. I asked him about it and at first he said they were wrong, then eventually admitted that she stayed over, but that nothing romantic was going on. Yeah, right. I have been through this rodeo before.

By the time I got to the studio I was ready to scream. I'm knocking myself out trying to help him, cleaning his apartment and paying his bills, and hes got something going on the side. I'm sure that had a lot to do with the breakup with the crazy woman. She moved out and this one moved in. To say I am mad is an understatement. I hate feeling used.

Then, to cap off a wonderful morning, my computer crashed. I got the blue screen of death seven times before it finally worked. Then somehow the keyboard wasnt working in Chrome but it worked in my other programs. Then suddenly it started working, but I cant open any windows in Chrome other than gmail. I'm typing this message on the ipad because Chrome doesnt work. My electronics are in revolt!

I want to go back to bed, but I think I'll go for a walk instead.

Have a great day everyone! Sorry for the pity party.

Happy Spring!?? It's been snowing here in MA since late last night. I really can't complain because it is a fraction of the snow we had last winter. I actually had to find my snow boots this morning.

Heather, Lisa, Maryam and others (sorry if I missed someone), sending you comforting thoughts.

Sylvia...what can I say? It's just so sad.

Allie...I wholeheartly agree with what Barbie said about Tom: stop doing all that you do for him. He can't get any grumpier and it may make him appreciate all that you do. No one deserves to be taken for granted. I think he took your car on purpose this morning just so you couldn't go to the gym. That's just plain mean.

Pip...the is no "whimp" in "Pip".

Heather...can that baby get any more adorable? I bet she has the cutest feet! I just love baby feet.

I keep working on improving my financial situation, no luck yet but I haven't given up. Grocery shopping has certainly been a challenge lately but I've actually had fun with it. A dear friend gave me a $100 gift card to a local grocery store. I was able to feed myself and Jake the rescue dog for 4 weeks on that card! This grocery chain puts meat, produce and damaged goods on "clearance". When I shop I check out what I can get at a discount first and plan my menu for the week from that. I have gotten heads of cauliflower for $.59; 5 lbs. of potatoes for $.79; 4 onions for $.79; 1/2 chicken for $1.30. I typically roast the vegetables with onion or make a soup. I will freeze some of the food for a future meal. I tell myself that this is how some chefs plan their menu, by what is available that day. I get a kick out of figuring out how little a meal cost and how healthy it is. When my finances get better I think I will still stalk out the clearance section, it's become a game.

I have once again turned to exercise to relieve the stress which has prevented me from sinking into depression. I've been getting up every morning with the thought that this will be the day that things get better.

On the dating front...the 2 men who bailed on me never got in touch again, just as well. I have 2 dates this week with 2 very different men. We'll see how that plays out or if they will cancel.

    Everyone have a great day!
    Chris in MA

Chris, great job stretching the grocery gift card and relieving stress with exercise.

Heather, my heart goes out to you and your DH was his newest family issues. I'm so sorry.

I went to the gym this morning. I did 15 min on the elliptical to warm up and it only registered a mile. I usually hit the mile mark before 12 minutes. It was leg day. We did circuits of squats, backward lunges, fast skater somethings, high knee steps, and toe touches (lying on back with legs in air, knees bent. Bring leg forward and touch toe to floor. Really worked core and top of thigh). We were supposed to do 3 to 5 sets of 20 to 60 reps, depending on how long we had been doing it. I hung for all 5 sets, but did way fewer reps than most. For example, we were supposed to 20 jumping squats each set. I did 10 regular squats. I felt pretty good for hanging with as much as I did.

Then I came home and walked for an hour with DH. It's a beautiful but crisp and cool day here.
