McDonalds all you an eat limitless french fries?

Notice they are testing regionally... This instance is indicative of that areas demographics. If I didn't care about peoples health had a biz, I'd probably do what was popular per location, after establishing some kind of nationally recognized standard too... The healthy-calorie-counting-weight-loosing-fitness-minded part of me is horrified at endless McD's fries, but the unhealthy buffet-challenging-bottomless-pit-of-binge-eating me is like, yazzzzzzzzssssss....0

All this talk of french fries makes me want to go to McDonalds. i dont know if the fries taste different in scotland but i've always enjoyed a wee fry from the golden arches. no, stop taking about fries. aw see now i want a quarterpounder to go with it haha.1

IMHO McDonald's fries are not edible. So the answer is no.1

That's why they sell chocolate shakes.
The only fry/shake combo worthy of eating is Wendy's fries and chocolate Frosty. Yum.4 -

Snobbery? Where?2 -
Nope never.. I've only had McDonald's once and I was sick for 2 days after.0

In Australia the fries only have four ingredients - salt, potatoes, oil, and a preservative. I think they're alright. Not the best chips going but still pretty good.
Aren't they different in the US though?
In the U.S. there are nineteen ingredients in McDonald's fries. They include "natural beef flavors" developed by someone in a lab coat. Back in the day, they used to fry them in beef fat. Now they use vegetable oil, so they use other methods to retain the beef flavor.....
My objection is more culinary than "health and fitness"; I think their food tastes terrible. I make my own fresh cut fries with my deep fryer at home when I have fries. My burgers are infinitely better as well......
Businesses have the right to offer their products as they chose. I do, however, very much appreciate restaurants that make an effort to provide healthy offerings and reasonable portion sizes.1 -
...I think the idea that all you can eat is why there is an obesity problem is missing the big picture. I guess we do live in a society that places zero on personal responsibility.
I agree. Just because there are limitless french fries available, doesn't mean anyone has to eat all of them. Really, every restaurant or grocery store could be called an "all you can eat" venue. You just have to pay per item generally. Everyone is responsible for their eating choices. I know that I ate way too much & got morbidly obese. I have issues with food. Those are my own problems, not McDonald's. If I choose to get obese again & use their products to do it, I'm to blame. If french fries weren't available & I was set on eating large volumes of high calorie food, I'd just eat something else & it wouldn't be a bunch of baby carrots.

I've been to St. Joseph MO. (where the McDonald's is going in) before, why the heck would I ever go back?0

I don't eat potatoes very much, and if/when I do I prefer them mashed or baked. So, no, unlimited fries wouldn't be very tempting to me. That said, if a business wants to sell them and people want to buy them, well, it's a (sort of) free market. Really not much different than olive garden's never ending pasta or red lobster's all you can eat shrimp (or any other "bottomless" type meal anywhere else). People just like to pick on mcd's (not necessarily anyone here, but in general).0

French fries mess up my macros. Unlimited would destroy them. That said, I'm not a big fan of McDonald's and tend to eat there only in a pinch or for their one item I really like, the sausage McMuffin. I prefer Wendy's and Five Guys for my greasy fixes.0

I'm confused about why this was posted in the health and fitness debate section.
Anyway, I don't care for McD's fries, do like really good fries (and roasted potatoes are a staple at home), but wouldn't want unlimited (but that's easy, just don't go back for more), and don't care if restaurants want to offer unlimited.1 -
No. For the same reason I also avoid going to buffet restaurants. Okay well one of the same reasons. I avoid buffet restaurants for a couple of reasons. But here I am trying to lose weight by tracking calories. Taking part in eating unlimited anything that isn't water is just stupid and self defeating.
I do occasionally enjoy McD's fries. As long as they are really fresh and hot they are okay. But I get a small portion and enjoy it within my calorie allowance.

You're blaming the company...

Very interesting, comrade.6 -

Yes, yes I am! Some folks may be able to self regulate, but many more will not, is my prediction. We shall have to wait and see0 -

@Christine_72 guess what McDonald's research may indicate as to spends the most $$$ with them a 130 pound guy or a 330 pound guy? McDonald's promotions are to make $$$ not develop BMI's of <30 perhaps.
On a serious note it is painful to watch what some of the minor kids eat.0 -
You're damn right I would, without a single regret. McDonald's fries are my faves.3
-
Nope. I like them plenty, but I'm generally satisfied with a reasonable portion. But I don't want to test myself, either.0

Don't you hang out at McD's a lot?
I never go there (not interested), so I guess I'm out of the loop (plus better restaurants in the Loop, local joke), but I can't see why McD's shouldn't be interested in what makes the most money, even if it isn't my thing.0 -
Where the link to the Red Robin's bottomless fries thread? And they have unlimited refills for kids' Mac and cheese too.
They probably had to install heavier-duty seats for their patrons years ago since they've been offering this for a while.0 -

Yes I do McD for one LCHF meal most day and senior coffee (180 calories) per cup with free refills and other times just for the coffee. If I was not doing LCHF I would not be going there. I did not until they started offering fresh cracked eggs cooking in real butter and now they do it 27/7 in the states.0 -

Um, duh, all of their patrons are dead from various weight related issues caused by bottomless fries. Everyone knows that.1 -

McDonald's Hindu fries don't have the old mojo.1

Small fries.... 230 calories.... 30 carbs. I don't even touch them as a treat.2

Not all of them.
Last time I was there, I had to wait a half hour for a table. And shockingly, most of the patrons didn't appear to have an obesity problem...just families enjoying a burger and fries...which is something I found very surprising given what I knew to be true from the MFP forums. Maybe people just don't know that the fries (and freckled lemonade) are bottomless? Or maybe availability of food isn't the only influencing factor in their decisions of how much to eat?
Nah, that can't be it. Bottomless means you have to eat as much as you physically can...and eat there as often as you can too. Thats's just how it is. They don't even have a choice.7 -
