Why is being a stripper bad?

I've been wondering why being a stripper is bad because I honestly want to be a stripper. They make really good money and can wear really cute clothes. I see nothing morally wrong with being a stripper unless you have kids... Then you should probably get a better job. What do you think?

It isn't. People like to enforce their ideas of what is right and wrong as if it's fact; set in stone. The truth about life though is that morals are entirely subjective. At the end of the day, do what feels right to you and remember that your rights end where another person's rights begin.18

I am a woman and have no moral objection to stripping. Some strippers likely do very well, however, I think that eventually as one ages the money will vanish. So maybe strip to put yourself through college and then move on? I doubt that most strip clubs offer healthcare, dental and a 401K or pension. Also, not sure how stripper, adult entertainer or exotic dancer will look on your job application when you hit 30. Some potential employers may not care but some will. Think about it.12

Well I'd just think that since smaller kids have the possibility of not understanding correctly what their mom is doing it could get the kids in more trouble than it's worth. I wouldn't want to have my job exposed to my kid whose around 2-5 bc it's hard to properly explain what you're doing and why. But that's my opinion.1 -
All excellent responses above. In my opinion, it is definitely not a great option long term. I personally know two women that have high paying jobs because they paid their way through college working as a stripper. However, it is not realistic to think it is something you can do for 10 to 20 years and make a good living at it.4

I agree I don't believe it's a good long term job to keep but it is definitely a helpful job if you can pull it off.

Nothing.
Just be careful of the weirdos. A strip club maybe better than private, unless you have someone to tag along for security.
My cousin was for a while and she came across many creepy people. Our uncle and her brother played bouncer for her several times.5 -
I know 4 ladies who stripped to pay for school. One is now a nurse, one is a respiratory therapist, one is a pilot, and the other dropped out.4

Nothing wrong in it, if I was younger I'd have no problems doing it xx1

I don't think there is anything wrong with it, if it is your choice and you enjoy it. What I do see a problem with is when women are pressured into it by a controlling boyfriend that is profiting on the woman's situation.
I'll run by the bank and get some dollar bills if you go through with it.3 -

And are you married? Plan on getting married? You either narrow the pool of men to those who wouldn't mind marrying a stripper, or you lie about your past, which is also hard on your soul.
As long as you don't mind surrounding yourself with drug addicts, sex addicts, compulsive people and servitude to an exploitative business model and business people. That's the experience of the strippers I've known.13 -

All right I'll make sure I try to make it happen. It's nice to have a fan already. Lol3

Not sure if it is right for you though since you stated in another thread that you don't like being flirted with based on your looks. What do you think is going to happen at a strip club?14

Nothing wrong with it as long as you're doing it for the right reasons. Done any pole dancing? It's hard AF but very fun. Try a class before you make stripping you're profession5

Meh, smaller kids really don't care what mommy and/or daddy do for a living. With a kid that young, you just tell them that mommy is a dancer. Not even a lie.2 -
You're immersing yourself in a world replete with drugs and alcohol. An environment populated with frivolous and unreliable people (I'm including the customers here). You have to pretend to like people that you find repulsive (the money isn't in the pole-dancing, it's in the lap-dances).
You would be (I'm sure) the exception, but an environment like that can rub off on you.10 -
Not telling you what to do with your life but playing devil's advocate and I would think people look down upon stripping because it's typically been an underground sort of thing, people liken the profession to prostitution, i.e. using your body to make money. Lots of people feel it's degrading, I worked with a man who went on a diatribe when my friends were taking me to a male strip joint about how it's degrading and demoralizing.
if it's on the up and up and you are doing it just for the money then go for it. I think the fact too that often strippers are stripping to get money to pay for their drug addictions is off putting to many. And really...there's lots of pervy guys leering at women's pictures here in the selfie thread...you'd just get these guys leering at you in real life! haha
and this isn't meant to judge just as I said devil's advocate and illustrating why some people might be offended.2 -
Because most men see strippers as future prostitutes. At about 28 when their looks are destroyed by drugs and alcohol a large number of strippers turn to prostitution. Plus most men would never marry a stripper. Stripping is simply a soul crushing job long term. Plus the money is just not all that great.10

I imagine it would be demoralizing.
Been to a strip club 3 times in my life; and my main memory (aside from that 40 year old that looked amazing naked) is it was depressing. There was this one guy; typical slacked jaw yokel Letting go of dollar after dollar to have a dancer close to him. Once he was out, she was gone. A few tables over a couple of big weight lifters had 3 to 4 strippers with them, never saw them hand out money. Then there was the stripper that offered to service someone from my group for $300 (it was a bachelor party).
You'll see the worse of humanity.8 -

Why are you yelling? lol7 -

It actually makes really good money just not in the beginning bc most newbie strippers don't get as many tips1 -
It's not. It's a job just like anything else. Good luck to you if you decide to make this choice. People who work as strippers won't get any judgement from me...regardless of gender. It's a hard job in spite of what people think and the money made is hard earned!2
-
umm..its not likely to be a career anyone could do for long.....3
-
The biggest and only issue I can see is it isn't a long term job. Most people can make a good living for 10 maybe 15 years and then what? I saw a few people said the same thing.
Only issues I could see is if you want to at all in the future work in a field with children, because at least at my college they drilled it into our heads to never do that or any other thing that could compromise how someone viewed us.3 -
If you're a stripper, can you still *kitten* about being objectified?4
