Last day of the block! Rest day tomorrow, thank goodness! I managed to work up some speed at the tail end of the group run this morning (mostly because I wanted to be done and get to the coffee part of the day) but oh boy, are my legs tired! I'm not sure that going from 5x25 mpw post-marathon right back into 45-55 mile weeks was all that smart. My legs are just playing catch up right now. If I'm gonna keep this up, I've got to respect the rest days going forward!
Upcoming Races:
7/4: A 4th of July race somewhere!
9/11: Lehigh Valley Via Marathon (Allentown, PA)
11/20: Philadelphia Marathon (Philly, PA)

It was really nice out - not nearly as humid. It was like someone had turned on a massive dehumidifier. Very unusual for Orlando this time of year. I suppose Orlando deserves something good at this point.
Wish I'd had time to go further but got a lot to do to get ready for vacation tomorrow.

<lurkmode /off>
It's been an (knock-on-forehead/wood) amazing couple of runs.
Got up Saturday, and it was COOL! About 72 degrees (which is awesome compared to the last couple weeks!), so I started out expecting a decent run, but not that I would actually do the 10 miles I keep saying I want for my long-run. Woot!
Had a great rest of the day: Father's Day luncheon with my peeps, saw Central Intelligence (The Rock and Kevin Hart - really funny!) and Warcraft (yep - big ole' nerd here!), got a signed Harlan Coben book and Just For Me Moustache/Beard color for Father's Day.
Sunday is my (running) rest day, but we went to see Raiders of the Lost Ark (Flashback Cinema FTW), and had a nice Father's Day supper with my FIL.
Today, the alarm went off at 4:30 as usual, but I decided to play possum for awhile. Got up at 5:45, had my coffee and headed out. It was 66 blinkin' degrees! AWESOME!!!! Sun was up, so even though my route is a tad busy I wasn't especially worried about visibility and safety. Decided to see how much I could manage, since it's a route with a bunch of options for longer/shorter. Kept hitting the parking lots and little circle drives off the main road, and adding a few extras here and there. Got to the far end, and decided I was still doing pretty well - sub-11 for the first 3 miles, and only mid-11 for the next couple. Picked it up and hit 6-point-oh-something at 1:05:59, so I was back sub-11. Wound up with 7.12 miles at 11:03/mile.
If the weather will hold up (it won't), and I can keep managing my schedule rightly (ha!), maybe it's the start of something.
T-34 days for Peachtree!6 -
Wow, almost 300 posts since I last checked in!
Since I had some down time from running with the foot injury I actually found myself spending hours in the morning doing extra work which eventually spiraled into working all day and into the evening. I think this might be how the whole "work" thing was supposed to happen before the internet and social media, but I've completely lost touch with that apparently.
I can run on my foot, I tested it last Thursday. I've had some mental challenges getting up in the morning to run though and due to the foot still being a little sore and clearly not 100% I have not pushed too hard to overcome those challenges. I want my whole body and soul back in it when I start back up again.
I suspect tomorrow is ripe for being ready, but I said that Saturday night too. Hopefully this time I wake up eager to go out!
Hope you all are doing amazing! I'm not going to go back and read the 300 posts though (sorry). So to anyone hurt, hope you heal soon! To anyone having amazing races and setting PR's CONGRATS! To anyone just feeling stinky about running, races, whatever, you'll get through it!6 -

First time checking in since Friday, so I just had to skim the posts. I probably missed most of your awesomeness, but since I am easily sucked in by photos, I did catch the @MobyCarp injury (ouch...hope it heals quickly), @greenolivetree -Beautiful run and @Orphia -Wow! Amazing! Everyone else...keep kicking *kitten*!4 -
Haven't been on much... lots going on at work (not all good).
My knees are still an issue so I'm taking it easy still. I'm not happy about it because I can feel myself starting to get lazy again.
I put in 2.3 miles on Friday and took the whole weekend off. I'll be going back on the treadmill today.
Still, I think I have enough time to get in what I need to make my goal.
6 -
My target for June is to run at least 100km in the month - something I've only managed once before (way back in September 2014, not long after I finished C25K). Progress is good so far as I'm at 75km.7

I've been so crazy over the weekend I'm just getting caught up. Need to go read all the posts.
Saturday Skip and I ran in a local 5K about 250 people. She finished 34 of 250 with a 24:13 1st in her AG. I got my first sub 30 in a while with a 29:44 finishing 108 4th in my AG. She ran with a girl who is younger but runs for another high school and she said slowed her pace for the last 1.5 miles for the girl. But it turned out to be the girls PR and her first time finishing 1st in her AG so it was exciting for them.
It was a beautiful overcast 70 degrees, awesome weather for June in Alabama. The only out of ordinary thing to say that happened to me was I was behind a guy at the water stop and both just slowed down, he took a drink, then threw the rest of the water in my face (and in mine behind him, which was okay). But then he did something no one has ever done to me before, tossed the cup OVER HIS HEAD and hit me in the face with it. Thankfully I had glasses on or it would have hit me in the eye. I got next to him and said "you need to watch where you throw your cups you hit me in the face". Goodness people.
Today's excitement on our run was actually after the run walking our Macy. Afterwards we were walking when we were attacked by a loose pit bull. It got it's jaws around Macy's back and I was hitting it with her leash (she slipped out of her collar) and kicked it and was screaming "I'm being attacked" which got some neighbors out. Luckily a driver coming by got in between us and pit when he backed off a bit and another neighbor scared it off in another direction and we were able to run home. Called animal control and they came out since I knew who owns it and they went to write them a summons. Macy is okay, Skip was a mess. I'm just thankful I was there Skip wouldn't have been able to handle it. Love my one neighbor he was running down his driveway with a gun. He said I heard you screaming I'm being attacked and I was ready LOL I was also thankful that he saw Macy before another neighbor who was walking her Maltese just up ahead of us, if he grabbed that baby the way he grabbed my 70 lbs baby he would have broken its back. Skip went off to gym and I just laid on the bed crying, after the adrenaline rush wore off I realized how bad it could have been or that it could have grabbed Skip...then it would be dead dog. I hate this now I can't walk my dog because I know the dog came out from under it's gate so if it does that once it will do it again. Animal control has been looking for it's owner he said because it's been seen and called in from others in the neighborhood. I've talked to neighbor who owns the dog before, seems like a nice guy. Skip said his middle school boy was caught selling drugs in school. Oh lovely.2 -
UGH! @skippygirlsmom I got chills reading about the dog. I've run into a pit bull before (a couple times) which thankfully was friendly. His name was Max. But it was still concerning that he was getting out. Those people moved, thank goodness. And the cup guy was rude!
@RespectTheKitty and @cljoe7 Sorry about the knee issues
No running for me today. I decided to go last night at 8:15. I think our heat advisory Wed-Fri was a blessing in disguise because I found myself thinking yesterday that it wasn't so bad outside, even though it was upper 80s with heat index in the 90s. Just wasn't so bad compared to heat index over 100. LOL So the temp was down to 83 last night with 60% humidity and it was still a very sweaty run but I didn't feel like it was as bad and I made it 4 miles. There was even a little breeze that felt almost cool when I'd turn corners into the breeze and it would hit my sweaty skin
When I woke up this morning and saw it was 70 but with 90% humidity, I felt happy I made the choice for a late evening run.
So with the change of doing last evening and then going back to mornings on Tues/Wed (so the plan goes), I'm adding a run and doing 5 days this week instead of 4. I feel like as long as it's hot I'll stay in the 15-20 miles a week range. I don't think I can tolerate any longer runs in the heat. But I am thrilled that so far I'm not experiencing any heat sickness. Also I expect to hit 70 miles despite having lowered my goal to 50 out of heat concerns.

I have 299 unread posts, so I don't think I'll be able to get through all of them. I was away at a music festival since Wednesday evening. I got home around 3am this morning, and I'm currently attempting to at least half function at work on less than 2.5 hours of sleep. I don't think it's going so well. Coffee, coffee, coffee. Too bad caffine has little to no affect on my alertness.
There was no running for me this past week, between some obligations, packing, and the festival, but I did walk a good 10 miles every day and was on my feet for between 10 and 12 hours for each of the past four days. I consider it good exercise. I am stiff. I am tired. I will get back into the swing of things after I, hopefully, get some rest today/tonight between the few afternoon/evening meetings I have today throughout the remainder of the day. I'm running on an average of about 4.5 hours of sleep (in a tent) over the past several days. Couple that with all that walking and standing around (in the heat), and I kind of wonder how I am still upright.3 -
@skippygirlsmom Drugs and a pit? The dog and neighbors need to go.3
-
Wow, @skippygirlsmom , racing sure brings out the best and worst in people. It was so kind of Skip to help the other runner--and so incredibly rude of the Water Throwing Dude! The dog story is just plain terrifying. Once a dog figures out how to get out of his enclosure, he's really got to be chained up, I think. Pitties can be great dogs, but they need a *lot* of responsible attention. My guy is part AmStaff (and a threat-reactive shelter dog) and he's never outside without a human. I think I would need to put him down if he made a habit of leaving our yard because he's just too dangerous.
Hey @instantmartian , did you go to Firefly? I've wanted to do that one for a few years but was thinking I might be a little out of the age demographic. I need to convince one of my teens to go with me so I won't be embarrassed, lol.
Today was a beautiful wonderful day for a stinky run. My knees are still tight and giving me trouble. They feel achy and stiff. I managed 4.5 miles on the lake trail, but tomorrow I'm just going to do a couple treadmill miles after PT.
