July resolutions:
Weight resistance training 3 days a week
Cardio (treadmill and or stationary bike) 3 days a week
No late night snacking (why is this so hard for me?)
Stop obessessing over the number on the scale

We had a nice day with our friends and their children, even though the underground was messed up and they were late. The queue at the museum was horrendous because of security checks. We LOVED the butterflies in the tent.
Now we are on our way home on the train. Eggs tonight.
My son has not been able to exchange contracts on the house. It's really touch and go now.

Yes, mine syncs just fine and I don't have premium. I don't remember how I did it, whether I started at Fitbit or started at MFP, but I chose apps from a menu and went from there. I think I started at MFP.

Expiggy, I would be interested in hearing about your homemade deodorant, not for myself but to pass on to the women I work out with. They were looking for deodorant as opposed to antiperspirant and wondering where you could get it. Some brand they were using did not seem to be effective. Tom's, maybe?
I'm not sure why that is advantageous, maybe because of the aluminum as you said. Maybe I need to become more educated on the subject.0 -
My body fat percentage was the same when I got measured this morning. I was a little bummed. The guy who did it told me I had to up my protein. So, using his suggested numbers, I changed my MFP settings to 40-30-30. My one July goal is going to be to focus on protein and get close to my new percentages. Wish me luck. I won't go so far as to say I hate meat, but I will say I love my carbs. Any suggestions will be appreciated.2

Hello, Ladies, Happy July!
Kay - I am quite fond of Dannon Light and Fit Greek yogurt... 80 calories and more protein than carbs. Whoot! I also eat a lot of cheese - but that has a high fat content - which doesn't bother me, but, might be an issue for others. Basically, any milk product has a high protein value - AND the calcium to help you process it, so it's win-win. Also - if you want to boost your protein - I often have a Protein shake latte for breakfast... Coffee with a protein shake in it. Premier Protein makes a great one... 30 grams of protein and only 4 grams of carbohydrate - a great way to get that extra hit of protein without a massive calorie or carb it - and the latte usually serves as my "breakfast." I don't really eat food in the morning - so, it works for me.
Lois - Yo Yo in the sense of weight? Or do you have a mad hand with the spinning disk? Nice to meet you.
Girls - I have to say, I am somewhat... I guess I am just a little bit shocked. I shouldn't be, I suppose... but, I am a little stunned. I pre-log most days - I plan ahead for dinner and determine what we are going to have - usually it's in the crockpot before I go to work, so it's no big deal to do it and really helps me to stay under calorie goal...
Well, on Fridays, I am blessed to be able to work from home... so, I thought I would cook something I haven't made in a while. I have a bunch of potatoes getting ready to go over to the dark side, so I thought I would make some potato soup.... I grabbed some bacon out of the freezer - and some Chorizo - because I though a little spicy hit would be nice... and I started working out the recipe in the calculator.
Um... yeah. I started to list it out... 11 oz of chorizo, 6 slices of bacon, 6 potatoes, 2 onions, a poblano pepper... and here is where it all started to go pear shaped - because I make potato soup with half and half... and cheese... and flour... *sigh.* I have never really measured out the ingredients before... I have always just thrown them in... but, when I thought about what I had done in the past, put it down in the calculator... I now know why the soup is so darned good! It occurred to me that maybe.. JUST maybe, this is one of the reasons why I have maintained my *chokes* girlish figure so easily for so long... because, this soup - for which a two cup bowl has something like 730 calories - used to be consumed two bowls at a sitting... with EXTRA cheese on top and bread and butter on the side.
I had to shake my head at myself. Gosh. If I was eating two bowls of this stuff, plus bread and butter, it's no stinking WONDER I still weigh 250 pounds, is it? That would be a 2600 calorie DINNER - and in the past, I would not have been fasting all day, either. Talk about a voyage of discovery...
Now, don't get me wrong... this soup is darned delicious... rich, creamy cheesy, and too good not to leave the recipe alone... but, I am SO never going to eat two bowls in one sitting again... and even eating only 1 bowl... with extra cheese and the bread and butter - yep, going there - requires some calorie savings at lunch. So... now I know. I can't believe it didn't penetrate my thick skull until now.
If I find that I am using less half and half than I thought... or less flour or cheese, I will be pleasantly surprised - but, *sighs* I expect I will just have to keep in mind in the future that Potato soup - the way I make it and eat it, requires planning for a 1300 calorie dinner.
*sigh*

Iremia - Oh I've been there. Big time. For me it's the mexican food casseroles I make. I'm just wolfing it down thinking... it's all good, not too much cheese, lean beef etc etc and the calculator tells me, slow it down baby, that one cup serving has enough calories to last you a day....
Sadly my grandchildren know that they have to bring snacks to grandma's house becuase Lord knows I don't have any here for them. If I had them in my pantry I'd eat them. They stick to good stuff, grapes and fruit etc but golly that stuff adds up fast! So I spoil with attention but not food. Cookies are a no go here....
It's hot hot today. 98 degrees but the heat index makes it feel like 110. Yes, 110. You'd think I was in Yuma, Arizona the way it feels outside. I'm going to put on the swim suit and go swim laps in my pool. Exercise plus cooling off. Sounds like a win to me.0 -
LOL! It's July! Of course I logged on and went to June and was stunned that there were ONLY 22 posts since I checked in yesterday afternoon! Then I remembered...duh...JULY!! So here I am. I am keeping by goals that I had for June. So...my July goals and resolutions are:
walk daily
get between 15/20 miles on my bike every week
record every bite
find a core/upper body work out and begin that
have a fire in the fire pit every weekend
You would think that last one about the fire in the fire pit would be easy, I have a hard time relaxing enough to do it. But I really need to do it.
Katie- I am following a high protein diet, and it has been a bear to keep my protein levels where they want them. I am not fond of meat, but I try to force down four-five ounces of chicken breast, fish, or lean beef at each meal. I use protein powder as a "stand in" when I don't have time for a meal. I have never thought of myself as a "carb lover", but when I started weighing and measuring my carb allowance, I was stunned with how little they actually are allowing. (1/2 slice of Ez bread, 2oz of potato, 1/3 of a banana, etc.) I do use non-fat Greek yogurt and 4% fat cottage cheese as a meat sub. Eggs are also good protein, but to get a meals worth of protein (the equivalent of a 4.5 oz chic breast) it takes two whole eggs and four egg whites! A lot of eggs, but I have those on Wednesday morning when my kiddos are having pancakes. I save the yolks for the little bit of protein and the fat for another dish. Leafy greens and broccoli are "free" carbs. Thank goodness I love them all and eat some with every meal to fill the empty spaces.

Well, spent the morning with sis; she is getting ready to have shunt placed back in her head (she is actually in surgery now). It was a good visit. She was very sassy (in other words, normal for her). She told me about all of the people who have come to see her. This was both entertaining and heartbreaking as her visits didn't really happen. All in her crazy tumor filled brain. She thought it was funny that I was visiting this morning, because my daughter just visited her last night (not really, daughter in TX). She was angry that I didn't tell her that daughter was pregnant. This made me giggle, because the last time I went to see my mom when she had cancer, she asked me about the baby I was holding. I wasn't holding anything. It was just me and my daughter Lauren, who was four at the time. My mom kept insisting that I was holding a little boy; she finally smiled and said "Oh, nevermind!" She passed away the next day; two weeks later I found out I was pregnant with my youngest son. Needless to say, I texted my daughter after I got home from the visit with my sister and asked if she was pregnant. No answer yet. Makes ya think, though... Sis also got a call last night from our mom (who passed away 23 years ago). Mom wanted to know when she was coming to visit. She and dad have her room all ready for her. Zip (her favorite childhood toy) is on her bed. Sis talked about that visit "home". She is very excited to sleep in her old bed. Gah! emotional rollercoaster.
I hadn't eaten breakfast this morning in my hurry to get to the hospital to be with sis. I stopped on the way home and ate and cried my way through a whopper and fries. But I logged it. Chicken and salad tonight so I should still be sitting okay. Going for a walk in a few to clear my head. Weeding the flower beds is also on my to do list for today as the temps are only in the high 60's. Looks to be in the 80's this weekend though for the fourth. Mine is 50 P, 30 F, 20 C. I try to keep as close to that as possible.0 -

Michele - Yes, I know something the bank with either transpose numbers or drop the last one off (that makes it my favor; and, even though I have tried to correct it with them, they don't seem to be all that concerned. But, if they do it in there favor ... I will 'raise' hell until the correct it. I liked it better when they returned my cancelled checks; but, they don't do that now. That is why I have carbon copy checks ... I can go back and check it; and, sometimes I wait until I get home and enter it into my resister 'in pencil' so I can make corrections without having to mark out and correct it. It took me a year to get DH to start using a pencil to bring the balances down. I took me a time to find out that a check had never been sent back to my bank to cancel it; they did post it to my account as 'paid'. So I took the bank's suggestion and took their balance as the 'correct one'. Anyway, they won't honor a check over 6 months old; I figure if they posted my account as 'paid' ... that's not my problem.
Well, back to cleaning house (for exercise); sun won't stay out long enough to heat up the pool. Just a little gray outside.

Re, that is one of the best things for the newbies, getting their food logged and actually see what they are eating. Even if they thought they were doing a good job. A lot of people think if they are eating salads then they are eating healthy. Nope, not if you put all that stuff in your salad, and i means stuff. So it is very eye opening.
Well I guess the ostomy nurse is taking a 4 day weekend. I called and left a voice mail for her this morning a little after midnight and she hasn't called back. I have tried to call her today and it just goes to voice mail How nice, to have 4 day weekends. Charlie is out walking now and when I changed his dressing and did the packing, I am very suspect as to whether his bag will stay on much longer. He wants to got o a matinee of Independence Day but I am reluctant of being out and that bag popping off.
Barbie, if Charlie could share some of his poop with your DH I am sure he would. I know I would give him some gas if that could help.
We were going to buy a big box of fire works at Sam's Club but it's supposed to rain this weekend

Barbie: The traffic issues in Seattle are epic. From what my local colleagues are telling me, there is almost never a good time to drive through Tacoma. I hit traffic at 11 AM on Thursday. However,once past it, smooth sailing the rest of the way to Pt. Townsend. Maybe you should plan for a getaway after 8 PM, or real early Sat AM.

This is my last day in Pt Townsend. I've reserved a ferry to Whidbey Island this afternoon where I have another business appointment tonight. Any recommendations for what to see/do in Oak Harbor?
Tomorrow will be fun. Meeting our fellow MFPer Sue (skuehn) in Woodinville for brunch. Yes, will take a photo.
Then I'll spend about 24 hours with a brother, SIL and their grown kids before heading back to Denver on Sunday night.
I've been eating vegetables at every meal and walking alot. However, have to confess when I saw homemade lavender ice cream in a shop last night, I had to try it. Really, really good!!!
I'll be back soon with July goals. Stay well, we can do this.

Me with my friends' kids at lunch today.
They have come all the way from Colombia. Amazing to see them again. It felt as if we saw them yesterday. How great it is when you really get on with people - distance and time mean nothing. You just pick up as if it were yesterday.
I went on a bit of a binge this evening. Whoops! Just relief I think.

Hello and it's now July?!? How the summer flies.
My June successes were:- lower sugar and sodium intake
- increased my exercise minutes much more than I originally planned.
- Did not eat my exercise calories back most of the time.
My July goals are:- Up my exercise mins to 150 minutes each day
- continue to log my food intake (1,300 calories)
- try to not eat my exercise calories
- continue to weigh myself once a week (I really hate to do this)
- keep the cat off the scales when I do weigh myself. What's another 13 lbs between friends, right?

Barbie: I hope you find a time to drive home that is less stressful than rush hour. Friday afternoons in general are daunting in Portland, Seattle, and Tacoma. I suspect that is a fact of life in urban areas. Good luck finding just the right window to make the drive home with low stress. (((HUGS)))

I did not expect to get in a riding lesson this week, but my teacher has set me up for Saturday morning. Yay! We were planning to leave Saturday aboard the boat and go to one of our favorite anchorages for a few days in order to skip the fireworks. Our dog freaks out from them. Since were planning to travel and he will be in a kennel for over a week then, we didn't want to board him for this weekend, too. We may go Saturday after my lesson, or go Sunday. The anchorage is only a couple of hours from here. We haven't been there for a bit over a year.
Have a safe commute home today, and a safe weekend. Happy Independence Day weekend!

Re – the pant sizes are really great! I have discovered some of the same things on favorite recipes and have gotten quite good at lowering the calorie count of recipes… so just looking at what you sent, I would start with the Chorizo – there is a vegetarian one available that is (in a recipe) perfectly fine which has ½ the calories of regular… and I would bake the bacon and use it as a sprinkle on top… I would love to play with the recipe if you want – just send it to me… I would also like the crock pot recipes.

Karen in Virginia - I love my yoga class and wish it was more than once a week, but I HATE heat, so can’t imagine that being anything but miserable.
Rwalker - I don’t remember how I did it but you can sync fitbit without premium, just check on the forum here regarding fitbit…
So for my June goals I did pretty well, I did not make 11,000 steps 8 days but 4 of those I had misplaced my fitbit… and I totaled 156 miles for the month so that was pretty good. I did log everyday, and the fun thing is really good for me, as I tend to forget the fun I have had.
Speaking of that I am watching Levi try to catch a fly that got into the house… he is pretty funny !!!

kjlamore hhaha!! well. got my major benefit ride that I gotta start raising $$ for and that's the MS Deception Pass Classic ride. this one is in September, then I still got that marathon in November.
so my goal this month????? NOT ride 700 miles !
this will be Kirby's first long ride so we don't know how far we'll be going.... we have usually done 80 miles on day one and 50 or 74 miles on day two, but we don't know how he will do, so we may end up doing 60 miles on day one and the shortest distance which is 20 something on day two... we'll see how it goes1 -

Oh, my! No way, no how. What does a typical day look like?
I am struggling with 30% protein. I have logged everything I plan to eat today, actually eaten it all except for supper and I have 40% carbs, 35% fat and 25% protein. I can tell this is going to be a learning curve for me. All of my protein choices also added fat! Part of my problem is that we are having our one night a week sirloin steak and my salad dressing is not low fat either. Also I had leftover rotisserie chicken and I made a salad out of it, grapes, pecans, celery, onions and low-fat mayo. It would have been a better choice to just eat a piece of the chicken, another piece of it for supper, skip the steak and find a different salad dressing, but I couldn't do it. I'm proud of myself for skipping the baked potato and not eating my exercise calories.
Thanks for the suggestions. I do eat Greek yogurt and Ezekiel bread (but never just half a piece).
I've known for a while that I needed to revamp my eating more than I already have. Ugh!
Edited to add: I'd also like suggestions on a good protein powder. I've been using Aria for women and I like it, but maybe I need more grams of protein. I thought I read somewhere that I should limit myself to one protein bar or shake per day. Is this true?

We are on the ferry The decision to discharge Jake was sudden. I thought nothing would happen till after lunch so I was off on a walk away from the hospital when Jake called to say we could leave. I had to move really fast to get us packed and out of the hotel room in time to not get charged for another night. The driving in Seattle wasn't bad and I-5 wasn't bad till I missed the exit and had to use GPS to get us to the ferry. The wait at the ferry wasn't too long but I'm parked too close to the wall and Jake can't get out to use the bathroom. I'll stop at a Gas Station when we get off the ferry. I'll pick up the pets in the morning
