So my question to the group of tall ladies is if you aren't super active how many calories do you consume?
I'm going at about 1400 - 1500 a day but I'm still not very active because I deal with chronic pain. I can't just go to the gym and exercise or I get hurt.
I tried water aerobics and that's when we discovered I have arthritis in my knees lol... It's been my hips keeping me down so we were all about protecting them at the gym then I hurt my knees lmao... Oops my shoulders have been killing me too so I'm pretty sure it's osteo because I know I have it in my spine as well...
All that on top of Fibromyalgia isn't fun which is why it's so important to get this weight off!
Here I am 5'10 and the nutritional expert they just sent me to kind of blew the surgeon's goal weight of 185 off and said oh we can get you down to 169. I'm not sure I want to get that thin. I haven't seen that weight since high school. I'm currently at 213-216 I keep fluctuating.0 -
I'm 5'11" (my doctor said 5'10" last month but I'm choosing to not believe that I've shrunk an inch), 205 lbs and get 1660 calories a day with my activity at sedentary. I was between 130 and 140 in high school and a lot of my friends thought I was too thin. I was around 165 when I got married and was ok with that weight but felt a little flabby. My main goal right now is to get to the top of the healthy range of BMI so 179. Once I get there I'll just go by appearance and how I feel to decide my ultimate goal.0

I measure 5'9", although I've shrunk considerably due to scoliosis. I was 5'11" at age 13 (this makes me sad). My doctor says I should be 6'1" thanks to having both thoracic and lumbar rotary scoliosis. I have no clue what this means about my goal weight.
I'm still a work in progress.. I'm at 178 and want to get down to 165. But here's my tall-girl before & current (Nov 2014 - May 2016).

How did you determine what you wanted your goal weight to be? I am 6' 1". I have been obese my entire adult life, so have no clue about a goal other than wanting to be healthy. Help!!0 -

I would gauge your frame size first and then determine an appropriate weight based on that. I am 5'9" but small framed so at 148lbs (8lbs away from goal) I still have a lot of work to do whereas someone my height and weight with a big frame would look gaunt in comparison. (Forgive the wicked tiger stripes, three kids haha)

Hi! I'm also 6' 1''. I basically took the BMI calculator and figured that the "healthy" range for me starts at 145lb, so bam! Goal weight found.
However, as I've been progressing, I'm thinking I might not have to go down that far to look the way I want to. I'm at 178 lb right now and am genuinely happy with the way I look and feel (BMI is at 22.7). I've lost 50lb so far. I also want to focus more on weight lifting and toning my arms + core.
So I guess the short of it is: pick a number and then see how you like the progress.
Edited to include a picture: On the left is at my highest weight (231 lb), the one on the right is 10 lb ago, when I hit a healthy BMI (187 lb)

Myree I think it depends on your goals and your frame. I am 5'11 and I am about 153 right now and I need to loose about another 5 lbs to be at my goal weight. I am small framed. My wrists are only about 6 inches around. My calorie goal is 1320. Food is the most important variable in the equation to weight loss. I think exercise helps you with self discipline...example if I work out hard in the morning I am more likely to stick to the 1320 than if I don't. But it is not imperative to loose weight....just need to watch your calories. I will bet if you drop 20 to 30 lbs some of the arthritis will ease up....no so much pressure on the joints...2 -
My arthritis pain is mostly in my hands, hips, wrists and the long bones of my feet. These areas are entirely unaffected by weight. However once I got down to "overweight" from a starting bmi of 39, there was appreciably less pain in my knees, back, and hips.
I am currently at 26 and haven't noticed much since though. Aspiring for a BMI of 24 with a very large frame (I measure "large" in wrist and ankle.. For a man, and I'm female!)2 -

Can I ask how many calories you were on and what exercise you were doing? I'm 6ft and really struggling again at the moment. You've done so well!!

5'10". 235 to 152 but maintaining with strength training around 165. Just posted this. Hope it is inspiring...

Sure! I think I was on 1500 cals. Initially all I could do was walk so I started with that. At first I could barely go around the block. I'd just go as fast as I could and little by little I could go farther and faster. Then I started hiking and lost the bulk of the weight with that. Now I run to maintain. If you have hills around where you live definitely walk or run those, the benefits are worth it. Although there are many variables that apply, in general I have found that walking burns about 2 cals/min, hiking about 5 cals/min, and running 10 cals/min. This may not seem like much but it really makes a difference. I believe that "Diet is for weightloss and Exercise is for metabolism" and they really do go hand-in-hand. Start with small changes and build up gradually. Don't give up, you can do it!!!5 -

Lol! I hear that sometimes, but the truth is they are heavy! Although keeping my weight down, exercising and improving my posture has helped a lot!1 -

I'm between 6ft and 6'1" and I started at 214 lbs. I'm 199 lbs now and my goal wt is about 175-180 and I will be sooo happy. My goal is to be 175 by the end of the year (5lbs a month). Sorry I don't have pics! Not enough progress to see yet2

I used to be 5'11. Now im 5'10. I work ou a lot and I eat a lot. Lol Im posting a link to a picture. Im smaller tgan the pic on the right currently but i maintained around that for over the last two years. That was Easter 2015.
The pic on the left i was abiut 40 or so lbs down? I know i gad gotten under 300. I started at 338. Tgat was january 2014. (first day in squat rack!)
Below in white is Easter 2016. about the same but more muscle I guess.
I look about the same i think. I wore that white to church a few weeks ago. Lol i eat 1800-2400 cals. I never went under 2000 the first year but i was pretty heavy and I worked out throughout. Hth9
