Really? You were at 125 for 5'4" and someone thought you had cancer? Maybe this person lives in an environment where almost everybody is overweight?4 -

Just curious why you'd have to eat so little to maintain that weight. Do you have a thyroid condition or are you just mainly sedentary?
I am mainly sedentary, although I walk a lot and always have (never owned a car and live downtown a large city).
So to maintain a weight under 110, at 5'4", I have to stay around 1300/day.
But to maintain at 115-120, I can eat more. I've never calculated precisely, but I know that I can eat enough to never be hungry (except for 30 min. before a meal, which is normal and healthy). Also I can indulge in calorie-dense foods, like ice cream, chocolate, bread and butter, alcohol, etc. once in while, without having to think to much about it. At under 110, it is a different story. If I had a chocolate bar or a portion of fries, a big adjustment had to be done the same day or the day after to compensate. I suppose that if I used exercise to control my weight, I would have to hit the gym.
So yes, 115-120 is a comfortable place to be for me. Under 110 is not.
Its so strange and cool how different we all are! I'm the same height, but I just hit 110 this morning on 1500 calories a day.
I'm a 105-goaler, and its not crazy low for me at all. My highest weight I've been is 130lbs, and I looked like a flabby blob. I'm jealous of those that don't5 -

Cool? Well, allow me to think it is NOT cool that some of us can't be as slim as you without starving, but I get your point.0 -

Yeah, I agree! When I joined MFP I was 139 pounds and I'm a bit over 5'3". Most people have the 130s as their goal weight but it looked awful on me. I'm 108 pounds now and I have to eat over 1900 calories per day to even maintain my weight, as I walk a lot and exercise for 45 to 60 minutes almost every morning. Body types and lifestyles are all drastically different.5 -
I'm 5'4 and have weighed everywhere from 119-180 in my adult years. I like myself the most at 140 which is a size 4-6 on me. Leaves me some T&A and have a flat tummy. At 120 my bones showed and though I was thin I didn't look healthy! I want to be healthy and fit not skin and bones.1

i'm 5'3 and my natural weight before developing metabolic syndrome from seroquel was 110. went up to 140 and am now back down to 110 and loving it3

I'm 5'3, currently 257lbs, I think my goal weight would be 132lbs. I don't think I'll ever want to go below 130lbs. I would be overweight I think if I was over 140lbs. So that's why I prefer 132lbs, I like being a bit chunky than skinny lol. But I guess it depends on preference, all the best hunn
Anyway, to anyone out there, if you ever need a friend to accompany you through this journey to a happier and healthier life, motivate you to reach for you goals, support you through ups and downs, I'm always here to be that friend, so feel free to add me! I hope we all will succeed in this journey, until the end! Have a nice day everyone!3 -
I'm 5ft 3. Current weight if 131 started at 194. I'm kind of happy with where I am as I've lost a lot of inches going from a uk 18 to 8 but feel my weight is still a little higher than in could be. In order to lose I have to eat low calories so it'd hard to know where to set a target so I'm just plodding along really. I've attached a picture to see if anyone can suggest a new target

I think we all picked it because that's what "they" tell us we should weigh. I'll be happy to get back to 150 I'm 5'3" and 47.0

This is an excellent example of how bodies can differ at the same height and weight. When I weighed 140 I was wearing a 10-12! At 119 I'm wearing mostly 4s with a few 2s here and there. And I am far from skin and bones.3 -

Agreed. In the 130s, my body was sloppy to me and in the 120s I was okay, but not anywhere near the level I wanted to be. At 108, I'm thin but I'm also healthy and fit, not skin and bones.
I started at 139 on the left and I'm 108 on the right here.
At 139, the weight didn't suit my frame at all. I didn't carry it well and it all went to my lower half. My breasts were never any bigger than a 36 C. I'll never have big breasts no matter my weight. At 108, I'm more balanced. I may be thin to other people, but that is where I'm comfortable and where my body easily allows me to be. I went from 139 to 121 in a bit over two months with ease.
On the right I'm 126, on the left I'm 109. As you can see, most of the weight lost was from my stomach area, then all around. I prefer to have visible abs because that's the look I like. I'm strong and active, I eat well (1900+ to maintain), and don't feel like I'm suffering in any way whatsoever. This is just the way my body was built. I don't look anywhere near skin and bones. 139 was overweight for me whereas 139 is someone else's dream weight at 5'3" and they could carry it differently.

I think it's really interesting how many of us have a goal between 130-140. I have had the number 130 in my head since I was a chubby 170lb 13-year-old. How did everyone come by their goal weight number?
I had lost some weight about 10 years ago. Was about 190 and got down to about 155. That's probably the lowest I've ever weighed as an adult. I was comfortable at that weight, but still felt like I could lose more weight. 140 is at the top of the normal range for bmi.

Am only 5ft 3in tall. Yeah, this is going to take a while. Weight is slow to come off, but clothes are getting more loose and my strength and endurance are gradually increasing.
Picked my goal based on what a healthy BMI would be for me.2 -
There's give and take between 10lbs. And like many have said, you might look super thin at 120, or you might not. I'm 5'4" on the head and in these pics I was 128 on the left, and about 137-140 on the right. There are some things I like about the lighter weight (easier to dress myself, slightly less self-conscious), and some things I like about the heavier weight (I'm stronger, joints feel better, better libido, I can eat more, my butt looks better, I like my face better).
Strength training also helps here. As you can see when I'm clothed, there is not a huge huge difference between 128/138.

I am 5'3'' and my goal is 125 pounds. My profile picture is last week at 130. It is mainly my stomach that I would like to lose from, and the slight rolls on the sides. Considering that I almost hit 200 lbs when I was pregnant with my twins, I am lucky to have the stomach that I do, though.5

Very nice physique. Those 5 lbs will make a big difference on you. Amazing work too, by the way.0 -
I'm 5'5 currently 135 but wanna be 125-1301

GW.. I have no idea. I've thought about 130lbs, but since I am lifting now and will definitely do cut and bulk cycles, I am just going to see where that takes me. I may go lower or higher, but I do not carry my weight well since I am quite petite.1 -
Okay, you showed me yours, so I guess I should show you mine.
First picture is me at 138. As you can see, I clearly have some extra pounds to lose.
Second is me at 119 (taken tonight). I am pleased with this body, but want more definition in my abs.
And, just for reference, me at 105 pounds. Small, yes, but hardly skeletal. I was 28.

I'm 5'3. My highest weight has been 197. My lowest has been around 148.
I'd like to ultimately be 135 but I'd be happy with 145.2 -
Right now I'm hovering around 130. I've been as low as 109 and as high as 160.
I was ~118 last summer and liked how lean I was, but I wanted more muscle (and a better shaped butt) so bulked up...I don't know exactly what my new goal is because I don't know how much muscle I actually put on...I'm thinking I'll end up 122-125...2 -
I'm 5'3.5-5'4. My highest weight was 209 and right now i'm at 136, ultimately I am trying to get down to 125.2
-
5'4" SW: 181 (highest ever), CW: 163, GW:125 then reevaluate based on desired body composition. Clothes fit best when I'm around 115-120 lbs. I look sickly at less than 110 lbs.2
-
I think it depends on your age also, not just your height. I am 5'3" and in my early 50's. My goal is 140. When I was in my early 20's I was about 120 - 125. I think that is too thin for someone my age who has also had 4 children. But that's just my opinion for my own self.2
-
I'm 5'3" myself. Started at 149lbs and currently at 123lbs. My first goal weight is 120lbs so almost there! Once I hit it, I'll reassess how I feel and either decide to maintain at that for a while or possibly go on to a second and final goal weight of around 110'ish.0
-
Your body composition and muscle mass are more important than the # on the scale...1

Please understand I don't mean to be judgmental. If it's right for you, awesome. But it does make my goal weight of 135 feel schlubby!
I am 5'3"
SW 175/180 I didn't actually weigh myself until several months in so I think I likely weighed more than that. I weighed 174 in April '16
CW 158/159
GW is currently 140
I base that on my body structure. I have naturally muscular thighs & a semi-large booty. I have never been 'thin' so to speak. So your GW doesn't seem schlubby to me. It is whatever you feel is going to work best for your body. I plan to reevaluate at 140 but for now I feel that is my most attainable goal.1 -
Very interesting thread. I picked my original goal of 135 bc I have, excepting 4 pregnancies and a brief bought of grad school induced inactivity and depression, weighed 135-137 since I was 17. I can maintain with little effort and a realistic workout schedule.
I hit 132 in college for a while for crew--but I walked everywhere and worked out twice a day (rowing at 4:30-6 am, running/kickboxing, erging/stair laps for 1-2 hours at night). That schedule would make me crazy--and angry--at age 34, trying to take care of 4 kids 6 & under and homeschool the older two.
So I figured I'd settle back into my 135-7. Then I started lifting heavy instead of just running long. And I'm 130.5 now and might even try to drop a few more pounds, bc I noticed my 135 at 34 was much jigglier than at 19. I'm much stronger now and soon I'll go to maintenance cals and keep lifting to keep de-jiggling.2 -

Ha, yep, I get that. Everything is a little...softer now (I'm 41)
It's finding a balance between being leaner and not being too scrawny. I don't want to lose too much from my face and look drawn or (eek) haggard. I think weight/resistance work becomes more important as we get older, not just to.look good but to retain our agility and strength.
