Good Afternoon. Plan on running 3 tonight. I had to miss yesterday's long run to not blow out my left calf, which has been bugging me. See the overweight thread.

Thank you @Elise4270 @greenolivetree and @mom3over40, I think I'm going to go for the ghost 8. My closest Brooks stockist is over 50 miles away so I'll have to order online and wait for delivery, I'm sure they'll be worth the wait though :)

@07KatieP13 The Ghost 7 are amazing but the soles of the Ghost 8 fall apart (I'm still wearing my 7s but my 8s are dead), the reviews say they fixed that issue for the 9s but I switched brands this time around so I'm not sure how true that is.

So many posts making me very jealous - haven't been able to run for a week due to dodgy ankle. Have been walking just to keep active, but I think that's stopping it healing so I've stayed off it completely today which I hope will help. Unfortunately will have a fair amount of walking I can't avoid tomorrow but so anxious to get back running again, so going to take it as easy as time will allow. As I don't have car/bike at the moment can't even get out for ride or to the gym to do some other cardio instead

@Azercord Wow, really? I'm so glad you told me this before I wasted my money. 9's are way too expensive for me and 7's seem really hard to find online here in the UK. Does anyone have any experience with Brooks Glycerin, any numbers to avoid? Or any other recommendations? I'll pay up to about £100, not sure what that is in $$$ lol.

Can you find a running store? I hate to compare US standards to UK. Where are you, roughly? Maybe someone closer could weigh in. £100 is about 147 USD.

Even if you can just visit a store to try it on and feel the shoe, then buy online it'd be worth it. Oh I see now. 50 miles away.. worth the trip

Hey @dkabambe said "dodgey", hes a UKer! Or watches entirely too much Dr Who

I'm on my 3rd pair of Brooks Glycerins and they serve me well. However, shoes can be very individual to the runner, so what works for one might be awful for another. You won't really know unless you try them out. Glycerins are neutral shoes btw, so if you know that works for you it might be worth a shot. If you need something stabilizing maybe look at other models.

I'm also on my 3rd pair of Glycerins! I also have a Nike Vomero and a Saucony ISO 2 in my rotation. My favorites are the Brooks though. The Glycerins cost more than the Ghosts, I guess because of more padding. If you don't need it, then don't pay more for extra padding. The running store talked me into thicker padding (#5 they call it - roadrunner store) and since I haven't had any issues I've just kept always buying that level of padding.

    August Running Totals (miles)
    9/1 – 10.07 warmup + tempo intervals
    9/2 – 7.76 partial course preview
    9/3 – 3.80 easy 30 minutes
    9/4 – 15.44 warmup + Oak Tree Half
    9/5 – 4.52 easy 30 minutes + 4 strides
    9/6 – 6.72 warmup + speed work
    9/7 – 4.04 easy
    9/8 – 7.18 warmup + intervals
    9/9 – rest day
    9/10 – 6.06 easy
    9/11 – 11.04 partial course preview
    9/12 – 3.77 easy

September total to date – 80.40

Nominal Challenge Goal – 200 miles
Real Goals: Manage Rochester Marathon well as a race, recover quickly.

Today's notes – Today's assignment was 30 minutes easy. Garmin says I got started at 3:18 pm and ran 3.77 miles in 30:02, for an average pace of 7:58 and a heart rate in what Garmin thinks is Zone 2 for 78% of the time. A totally unremarkable run, aside from requiring the discipline to stop at 30 minutes in compliance with the taper. Since I had already worked up a sweat, I swapped the Kinvaras I run in for the old beat up Peregrines I do yard work in and cooled down by mowing the lawn.

The taper isn't driving me as nuts as it might otherwise, because this morning I had the distraction of Boston registration. Got on very soon after the site opened, put my info in, got back an email confirming receipt of my registration at 10:10 AM. Sat and waited for confirmation that my qualifying time was verified. This is taking a while. Look at last year's emails. Don't see one with time verification. WTF?

It turns out there was no email saying my time was verified. The printout of my registration lists my qualifying race and time, and says the status is "verified." I looked at that registration a lot more closely last year, so I knew as soon as I registered that my time had been mechanically verified. This year, I was a bit of an inattentive doofus.

You lose three things when you get old. I don't remember the other two.

Oh, well. At least I remember that the official email acceptance didn't come till after the next window opened. While all the communications from BAA have the boilerplate language that your entry isn't accepted until the time is verified, in my case the relevant factor is my entry won't be accepted until BAA determines that whatever cutoff there might be will be less than 32:00. In practice, BAA will likely determine that any cutoff will be less than 10:01 and then notify everyone who registers today or tomorrow that they are accepted.

Just saw this on Facebook, perhaps it could help with the shoe shopping.

My husband and I both got fitted for shoes at a running store some time ago. He got the Glycerin 12 and I got the Ghost 7. He recently got Ghost 8 online. He didn't like it as much as the Glycerin because he felt that the padding wasn't as good as his Glycerin. But I know some others may not like so much padding.

    3 September 2.7km swim
    4 September 3.3km swim

    7 September 2.9km swim
    8 September rest day
    9 September 5.3km treadmill run
    10 September 2.7km swim
    11 September 5.46km run
    12 September 2.8km swim

Did a shorter than I wanted 7 mile run around the Capitol this morning, as I over slept, but made up for it in steps as I did the tourist thing this afternoon around the mall. Also got in another 1.5 miles of running for a train after the steelers/redskins game tonight, as metra shut down 45 minutes after the game ended, and I didn't want to be stranded in Reston (despite the win). Off to Philly tomorrow AM, and looking forward to running around that city.

    9/1 - 6 miles (treadmill)
    9/2 - 10 miles
    9/3 - 12 miles
    9/4 - 16 miles
9/6 - 10.5 miles (w. HM pace running at end)
    9/7 - 6 miles
    9/9 - 6 miles
    9/11 - 3 miles
    9/12 - 8.5 miles

    Total: 78 miles, 1 MP+ faster session
    Goal: 190 miles, 8 MP+ faster sessions
    Remaining: 112 miles, 7 MP+ faster sessions

    2016 Race Schedule:
    Disney Marathon - Jan 6 - 3:29:09
    Gasparilla 15K - Feb 20 - 1:01:59
    Ironman 70.3 Florida - Apr 10 - 5:07:51
    Pittsburgh Marathon - May 1 - 3:08:25
    Ironman 70.3 Augusta - Sep 25
    Chicago Marathon - Oct 9
    Ironman Florida - Nov 5
    Rock 'n Roll Las Vegas 10K - Nov 13

@ddmom0811 - Glad the century went ok! I tend to sweat about 3lb/50oz water/hour when doing moderately intense rides on hot days, and once my ride length gets too long, if I don't keep up, I feel it. For rides this past week, I kept 120 oz on me (camelback + 2 bottles), refilled mid day each time, and still had another 50 - 70 oz at dinner each evening.

Thanks @KatieJane83 and @ddmom0811 I think I'm going to go for some glycerins, just got to try and find a good deal online.
@mom3over40 Wow that chart is amazing, I followed it and it led to the two shoes I was considering!

I've still not been for a run since last Thursday due to tonsillitis although I think I'm over the worst of it now so fingers crossed it won't be much longer :)
