CICO is not the whole equation

No disrespect to the OP but I think sometimes folks get upset about others eating foods that they determine as "bad" foods that they themselves "can't" eat because they restricted or severely limited in their diet.
I can't eat cake so if you eat it on your diet then you are wrong, kinda mentality. idk9 -

Maybe, but that doesn't mean that person is automatically malnourished or thinking that they don't need nutrition.
I eat what I want when I want and only pay attention to calories. I just eat something like 2500 calories and I would have to eat a pretty weird diet to not recieve my nutirtion from that. As it turns out sometimes I want a salad, sometimes I'd like a carrot, sometimes I want tacobell, sometimes I want a slice of pizza. If you look at my diary (which is open) you'll see I'm generally hitting my nutritional needs.
If you do look do note I don't usually bother to list salad greens I just list the dressing or toppings, so i actually am getting more dietary fiber than it seems like I am.7 -

Weight loss can improve health. Eating a certain way can improve health. Health is a complicated individual thing though. What one person needs to do to be healthy can be different than another person.
What you need to do to lose weight boils down to the same for everyone though. CICO= weight management
Nutrition= eat a variety of foods to meet your body's needs. This is somewhat different depending on size, age, activity level, health conditions, goals.
About water- Drink enough fluids to your thirst level or until your urine is light/clear. Doesn't have to be just water.

It all matters. That is the point. Subject of thread is that CICO is not the whole equation.
In the simplest terms, not as to weight loss because eating less than you burn is an absolute requirement.
I personally prefer eating what I think is a nutritionally sound diet, but if I don't I will still lose weight as long as I eat less calories than I burn.
@RobynTheresa, why would you have to earn the right to a treat? Why not work it into your calorie goals?

The reason I feel this way is I've learned the importance of creating a positive relationship with all kinds of food. Having control because I "choose to" and not "have to"
Another reason I feel that all types of food are good and can serve a purpose.
For the past 12 years I consume an average of 6 donuts, a full gallon of ice cream, large bacon/pepperoni pizza, and much more "junk" on a weekly basis. Surely this would make me "unhealthy"
But you be the judge.

It took me 4 months on here before I realized how true this is!!! How stubborn I was to let this very simple thing not sink in.
And how freeing it is to realize that certain foods are not bad they just may not keep me full for long and I have to plan for them. This has relieved so much guilt that I want to shout it from the rooftops.

It took me 4 months on here before I realized how true this is!!! How stubborn I was to let this very simple thing not sink in.

Agreed. The best day was learning that good and bad had no business as labels for my food.6 -

I also like the Buttery Jumbo Jack from Jack in the Box, Double Whopper w/cheese from Burger King, Super Star (or Double Western Bacon Cheeseburger) from Carl's Jr. and the Triple Chili Cheeseburger from Tommy's. Not to mention the Double Double from In 'n' Out Burger.
But I enjoy them in moderation and most certainly don't advocate them being the mainstay of one's diet.9 -

You are not alone. I need to lose another 10 ish lbs of fat and it's 100% vanity. I just want dem abs. And I largely start my weight loss journey to look better. Even being 50lbs over weight, my numbers were not that far out of whack and non of my doctors were really that concerned.2 -

You're not alone. I've lost all I've needed to lose for health. At this point, anything I'm doing is purely for vanity or just for the sake of saying I could do it.
Back to the discussion -- personally, I just tend to prefer what people think of as nutritious food. That's not to say I don't like the occasional indulgence, but they're not a regular part of my overall diet.
I just never make the mistake of confusing my caloric intake with my nutrient intake and assuming they're the same thing.2 -

This is me too, I like all the foods I only pay attention to calorie intake and don't track macros etc, but I eat a diet that's pretty varied, I'm in great health and I'm maintaining my loss, so I must be going something right.2 -

I also disagree. I currently want to lose some more weight for vanity, and because I think I could run faster if I did. Seems like a good enough reason to me.
Wish OP wouldn't just proclaim stuff and refuse to address everyone else -- that strikes me as rude.15 -

I agree with the OP... CICO is not the end on be all for everyone. I can eat less calories than I expend but if they are loaded with carbs, I will gain- this is because of medical conditions. To those who don't have these, you don't understand that it does affect weight loss.... thank you OP!2

For the record, I am catching up on this whilst eating a McChicken sandwich, fries and white coffee.
If I don't return I dropped dead immediately after.
I also don't religiously track macros and micros. I do try to hit protein and fat but no biggie if I don't. I eat a rounded enough diet not to get too caught up in the minutiae.
I'm also at the vanity end of my losses. I'm not quite a healthy BMI but my waist is well within the healthy range and my BP is totally normal now.12
