what are your thoughts on green tea extract?

Well I have only been starting my keto lifestyle change for three days now. I love green tea because of all its benefit. So I thought why not implement green tea extract pills in my keto lifestyle to burn the optimal amount of fat.
I know its still early, and weight loss will slow down, but so far I have lost a whooping 1 kg a day. The first day I lost 2.2 kg.
DAY 1- 2.2 kg lost (4.85 lbs)
DAY 2- 1.2 kg lost ( 2.64 lbs)
DAY 3 - 1 kg lost ( 2.20 lbs)
To me well that's a lot for such a short period.
The main reason I love green tea is because when I tend to make bad eating choices ( before) , I noticed that I wouldn't gain as much weight. I would drink about 3 strong cups a day.
Is green tea a stable in your diet too?

No. Nobody has.
Any results you have had in regards to significantly noticeable weightloss and green tea having a direct effect is coincidence.
I'd love to see how you came to the conclusion that drinking 3 cups of green tea allowed you to somehow gain less weight than without, with all else being equal.
If you like green tea, drink green tea. Ingesting pills will do nada.11 -
I respect your opinion. @cityruss
But that is all that it is Your OPINION.
This is my own true personal results.
I shared because I have done an extensive amount of research on the topic. And would like to be of help to any one else that like myself, is a herbal tea enthusiast.
The green tea plant is a Gem. That many people do not embrace
The green tea extract pills are pure with no other ingredients. Which is equivalent to 3 cups.
So ultimately I have been digesting 6-7 cups. If you don't believe in the power of green tea, well then it's your own misfortune.
We are all on the same journey here, to be the best versions of ourselves. I don't appreciate your rude/ sarcastic demeanour .
Have a lovely day.

It's not really just his opinion. You would be hard pressed to find any reputable scientific organization (like NIH) that would argue that there is a huge increase in EE driven by green tea alone. If anything, green tea is adding additional compliance to your regime, which is helping stick to your goals. If you look at places like examine.com and take a look at the study, most are unreliable and provide little benefit at best.
https://examine.com/supplements/green-tea-catechins/
There really are two main reasons why you lost that much weight in such a period of time; 1. switching to keto decrease the amount of store glycogen in your body (very common) and 2, it's adding dietary compliance and allowing you to cut calories.
ETA: While anecdotal, I would caution some of those who are on medications to see if there are any adverse interactions with herbal teas. My MIL was a huge fan of herbal teas (drank daily) and while in the hospital, one of her specialist cautioned her because many of the teas she drank were interfering with her medications.14 -
Thank you for your insightful opinions.1

I drink a lot of green tea at work mainly to drink something hot that isn't awful like English breakfast tea or coffee but I can say that on it's own, it's ever really contributed to any difference to my weight loss.
I've heard a lot about it being good for you but it doesn't appear to be noticeable.5 -
OP, what are your current stats? Maybe it's not you in your profile picture, but if it is why are you still trying to lose weight?1
-
I though I was the only one that thought English breakfast tea tastes aweful!!!1
-
Op, instead of responding to my question you changed your profile picture and deleted the other one. Do you have a history with EDs? That picture, along with this post, is raising red flags.8

Factually, it does nothing for fat loss. If you are one to get caught up in placebos and they make you feel better (it sounds like you are and there is nothing wrong with that), by all means, drink it. Just like it won't really help you, it won't hurt you either.

No no no.
You can pop "pure" green tea pills and make the nasty fat fairies go away.
I'm off to buy green tea pills and donuts.10 -
I hate tea in general, so I would probably hate green tea extract.
If it makes you feel better taking it, go ahead.2 -
Be very careful with companies that sell green tea extract!!! This is the product I got scammed on. If you want to buy the extract go to a local health food store. Mygreentealife is the company that robbed me of $400. Incidentally I am not recommending the product at all just warning people about the scammers.5

And yo have absolutely no way of knowing it was because of green tea.
IMO, it is nonsense...

Haters are going to hate.
I'll keep doing what works for me. So far I have lost 15 kg, (33 lbs) all by myself. Without all the advice from all the " dietians" on mfp.
Just keep doing what works for you okay loves.
Good luck to all on there journey to self -actualization and weight loss.
Stay safe.

I promise it isn't hate at all. You are just wrong about green tea. Agreed on doing what works for you though.10

No one is really hating on you. You asked about thoughts and didn't get responses that you wanted. No one here is discrediting you for how much you lost or how you did it. We are trying to give you the science and what we all have learned.
ETA: many of us have gone down these roads before and learned after seeing copious amounts of science.
<--50lb lbs lost.16 -
I love green tea but I only drink it because I like the taste and I am trying to cut down on tea and coffee. I can't say it has made any attribution to my weight loss though.5

You still haven't posted your stats. I'm not trying to get after you, but your previous profile picture showed that you are very thin, (your collarbone was very pronounced, bones in arms sticking out etc). And you've started another thread titled "been overweight and underweight in one lifetime", which indicates that you've had previous issues with being underweight before. I'll bow out of this thread, but it really does sound like there may be some ED issues at play here. I wish you the best, and hope that you can find good health and happiness as you move forward.5 -
And by " getting after me, what will you gain? @crzycatlady1
I appreciate the concern, ( not sure if it's genuine). But I assure you I'm fine.
Thanks though
Keep well.0 -

@crzycatlady1 is, in my experience, nice and caring. Her concern seems genuine. We see many people here who are struggling with disordered eating, some of us here have personal histories with it as well. Your current rate of loss isn't a healthy one and that's why some people are expressing concern for you.12 -

Aw thanks I do know I can come off a bit gruff (really trying to work on that lol), but yes I was posting out of concern for the OP. I have relatives who have struggled with EDs (my own mom for instance), and it's incredibly sad to see wonderful people destroy themselves that way. I apologize to the OP if I came across badly, I was genuinely concerned about your well being.
Ok, now I'm bowing out of this thread!8 -

What was the time frame for the weight loss...?
1 -
Someone took time out of their day to be sure you were well and you were a complete ***** to them. And now you're going off about trolls in your other thread. You might want to consider stepping back from the boards for a minute.
You lost 10 pounds in 3 days. You can be proud of that. Why give green tea the credit when it was all you? But it's also a very fast, worryimgly fast, rate of loss. Do you plan to keep trying for that kind of loss all through the 60 pounds you say you want to lose elsewhere?14 -
It must be so hard, being so angry and a pessemistic.
@diannethegeek .
Did I not say thank you? I did.
What you say is a reflection of yourself.
I'll keep you in my prayers.
May God remove the spirit of anger and pessemism from your life.
Amen.

In this thread you have called people "haters" simply for disagreeing with your statements about green tea extract and told someone who was expressing concern for your wellbeing that you didn't have confidence that she was being genuine. If you want to focus on reflections, you may want to start closer to home.17 -

It hard to watch someone as strong as you are give credit for an amazing accomplishment to something else. It's hard to watch someone who's already beautiful trying to lose more than 10 pounds a week. It's hard to celebrate a journey when the person taking it doesn't seem to see how awesome their efforts are. Don't give your power to green tea in this. You deserve all of the credit. That's all anyone has been trying to tell you.14 -
Have seen some recent information linking green tea extract to liver problems. I stopped taking it... at least until more information is available.4

I take 2 green tea caps per day. I don't really like green tea but I believe that there are real benefits from it. I also read a few years ago in Men's Health or Muscle and Fitness (can't remember for sure) that there were very few supplements that work in pill form as well or better than getting it from the food/substance itself. Green tea supplements are actually better in pill form because in order to get all the benefits of the green tea when brewing it you have to get it at the perfect temperature, steep for the perfect amount of time and drink it immediately. Lots of variables whereas when a pill is made properly you can get all the benefits.
So if you love green tea, drink it and enjoy! But also, I believe taking the supplements are worth it. And if your combination of food, tea and supplements work for you to reach your goals, who cares what anyone else says! Do what works for you!3
