It's a brand new day and a brand new year and a clean slate for all of us to use wisely to make our lives the best they can be.
The name of the thread is "Women Ages 50+" but all women are welcome.
This is a supportive and encouraging thread and a great place to find the community that will help you on your journey to health and fitness.
How did you do with your goals or resolutions for December?
What goals or resolutions did you set for January?
I stopped setting goals for the month and started making resolutions after I read this from Gretchen Rubin:
You hit a goal, you achieve a goal. You keep a resolution.
I think that some objectives are better characterized as resolutions, others, as goals.
“Run in a marathon” or “Become fluent in Spanish” is a good goal. It’s specific. It’s easy to tell when it has been achieved. Once you’ve done it, you’ve done it!
“Eat more vegetables” or “Stop gossiping,” or “Exercise” is better cast as a resolution. You won’t wake up one morning and find that you’ve achieved it. It’s something that you have to resolve to do, every day, forever. You’ll never be done with it.
Resolutions for December (with end of the month comments)
*show up for physical therapy appointments and do the exercises assigned in between (got to all the appointments and have skipped doing the exercises only a few times)
*balance rest and activity--don't over-do (lots of naps this month)
*meditate daily increasing time gradually until it reaches 20 minutes (daily meditation but haven't increased the time much)
Resolutions for January:
*assemble the necessary papers and numbers to prepare 2016 income tax return
*meditate daily, increasing time gradually
*do physical therapy exercises daily
*act the way I want to feel
My word for 2017 is "balance"

Happy New Year, my pals!
My January goals are to give up sugar for the entire month and to keep up with the online Bible Study I'm doing. Also to continue with my exercise program, eat clean at least 90% of the time, and drink plenty of water.28 -
Happy New Year my friends!
Thank you Barbie for moving us forward not only for the next month but the next YEAR!

Happy New Year!
Here are my resolutions and comments for December. My resolutions for January look quite familiar. I don't take them for granted. The practice of writing goals and/or resolutions has been very important for me. It keeps me focussed on the things I can do to improve my life and health. It brings me both confidence and courage.
December Resolutions 2016 with comments :
1. Log every bite and swallow:
I did a good job with this resolution, although not perfect.
2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on flexibility and back strength:
I was able to get some form of exercise nearly every day I had to miss a number of yoga classes due to travel or medical appointments but my overall results were good and I am stronger and more flexible than a year ago.
3. Have fun every day.
I managed to find joy every day. Sometimes it was the satisfaction of exercise and meeting goals, and other times it was the pleasure of friendship.
4. Drink at least three glasses of water daily, preferably more!
I have fallen in love with sparkling water and am having NO problems reaching my water goals on a daily basis. YAY! This has been a struggle for me in the past. but I seem to be doing very well now.
5. Monitor sleep. Try to average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly. I am doing a good job getting enough rest and good sleep at night.
January 2017 Resolutions:
1: Log every bite and swallow;
2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on strength and stamina.
3. Have fun every day.
4. Drink at least 3 glasses of water a day.
5. Monitor sleep. Average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly.

msfanglet - welcome!
Happy New Year everyone. I'm so glad you all are in my life
Ken & Lynette came over for dinner. I tried the pineapple pork. I was afraid that the meat wouldn't be tender enough, but it was. Personally, I would have wanted something with more flavor, but I'm sure Vince likes it. I made this cranberry apple crisp, first time I tried it. Again, the apple juice was at the bottom. How can I prevent that from happening?
Gloria - we are wild party animals here. We watch the ball drop, call the girls to wish them a Happy New Year, then go to bed. Now if that isn't excitement...I don't know what excitement is.
Lenora - yes, Loki has seizures. He was on phenobarbitol only and all was just fine. Then he started having them again so the doc added the zonisamide. The only problem is that it has to be compounded so that makes it pretty expensive. But he's worth it

Happy New Year! My last post was right at the cut-off, so it is in December's page. Oh well. Maybe some of you are like I am, I go back and read the ones that still show up in the previous month.
I've got something scratching my left eyeball for the 2nd night in a row! I want to pop it out, rinse it off and pluck it back in. Like washing off a dropped pacifier. First child, you wash it off, sterilize it again; with 2nd child you just pick it up and blow the dirt off. Trying the 2nd child way ... hasn't worked. Eye drops either. Going to call eye MD in the AM and see if she' Rx'd something to tide me over until my appointment mid-January.

Hi, I'm new here. I started MFP last spring, lost 15 lbs, hurt my foot, stopped power walking and tracking and packed it back on. Looking for people to 'check in with' to help stay on track. I'm 51, a Christian, administrative assist; used to be athletic and still eat pretty healthy, but don't when I'm not tracking or doing some kind of exercise. Looking forward to meeting more gals here. Live near Seattle, WA.21

Michele - I'm sorry he has seizures. Is there any other type of seizure meds that would work for dogs? I know I got something by email that talked about what 'human' meds could be used on pets. I think I got it from my granddaughter, Taylor ... or it was on FB (maybe). Benadryl, Pepto Bismol. ... several other things. Wish I could find it, maybe I can look in the morning. Right now I am going to try to close my eyes, maybe tomorrow my eye won't hurt like it has all evening.

I don't make New Year's Resolutions ... I'm gonna break 90% of them anyway.3

Thank you, as always, Barbie. Love the quote, adopting "Resolutions" as stronger than "intentions" (y'all know where the good ones lead. ;> )
Nov and Dec results:
Log: 100%
Cardio + Strength: Did great in November and first half of December, felt great, standing up from chair got easier. . .Then it got COLD snowy and icy and I stopped going to the rec center even stopped my little volunteer gig. New year won't let my fear of falling keep me from moving. Vit 'D': 75%
Hugs to all,
Barbara, the SW Idaho AHMOD who is happy to be here.
2017 Resolutions:
Smile then listen
Every day: PLAN then log like Mary MSH, every bite lick or sip whether over, under or sidewise...
January: Strength Training 2 days/week. Zumba, H20 Fit or Line Dance Class 3 times/week, Cal Mag 2/day
Nov-Dec-Jan: Vitamin D 2 x day.

Morning all...
My December goal was to "be lighter," physically, mentally, spiritually. With the recent diagnosis, it feels a great weight has been lifted, so mentally, I'll take that... the weight stayed the same, and bluntly, I'll take that as a win this month.
My January goal is the same, "be lighter." The actions I'll take to achieve that are:- Log every day, every bite
- Get my happy hiney on the medication
- Work with my DH to eat healthier foods to get my LDL numbers down (wouldn't hurt his, either, I'm sure)
- Pay attention, be present at all times in my life
- Write every day
- Work out four times a week, two cardio-focused, two flexibility/resistance focused
Love y'all,
Happy New Year again,
Lisa in West Texas9 -

Happy New Year from the Newbie in SW Washington State. Looks like quite a few of us here from the Pacific NW.
Snow is falling right now and it's quiet and beautiful.
Yesterday I dusted off my Leslie Sansone walking DVD's - 20 minutes of walking with her (her one mile tape) in the spare room gave me around 1600 steps on the Fitbit - not bad. Roads can be icy here so I've given up the early morning walks for the time being.
New Year's resolutions - keep logging on the MFP site, reduce sugar, keep the treats out of the pantry! I asked DH to keep his candy bars out in his shop ;-).
Have a great day all!

Happy New Year!
I joined this thread earlier this year, and it has been a lifeline. Thank you, thank you, thank you, friends, for being here, imparting your wisdom, humor, insights, woes, solutions, resolutions, goals, support, & wonderful photos. I drop in once or twice every day to catch up with all of you and always come away enriched.
While 2016 was tough (I became disheartened over politics in Britain and the USA), thanks to all of you, my derailment was shorter and less severe because I saw all of you forging onward, staying the course on your personal journeys, exhibiting courage and resolve in circumstances more difficult than mine. It helped me maintain perspective, and I thank each and every one of you.
My goals for 2017 are:
1) Prepare an older home I own to be placed on the market. It is a wonderful home that is over 50 years old and needs quite a bit of renovation. It will take work, money, and determination to fix it up. It will be a huge relief to be rid of it. My stepson lived in it, but he has married and has his own home now.
2) Clean out and organize the garage. Once that's done, it's on to the attic.
3) Set 1 monthly goal per month in addition to working on the older home & garage. This month's goal is to get tax stuff organized.
My resolutions for 2017 are:
1) Log food & exercise
2) Eat 1 lb of raw vegetables daily
3) Exercise a minimum of 3 days per week.
4) Get adequate sleep
5) Look for opportunities to perform random acts of kindness every day.
6) Practice mindfulness in all that I do.
Today will be a day of rest & relaxation, reflection & remembrances.
Healthy Happy New Year!

January goals: (and for the year)
1. End the months lighter than I started it.
2. 30 minutes of exercise 5 of 7 days
3. Use the breathe app on my apple watch every day
4. Declutter
Last one going to be hard as my DH is a hoarder and goes through to keep anything I gather to donate or toss. He took a pair of my old slippers that I was donating and is trying to wear them now. They are a women's large and too small for him. Yet, he insists.
Allie, one day at a time. Don't forget what he did (is doing) to you. Stay strong my friend.

Happy New Year dear friends and new friends! I normally don't stay up to ring in the new year; I figure it will arrive without my help. And in recent years, I have become a slave to my body's circadian rhythm. I am a morning person. SO...a little extra cheer with my morning cup of coffee!
Barbie- Thank you for keeping us going into 2017! I love your word for this year: Balance
Rori- How funny that you quoted about the word Intention(s). I was considering intent/intention as my word, but that quote came to mind!
The word I chose for this year is: Action
Chosen because I can commit, resolve, intend...I am good at those things...it is the taking action that I need to work on. I resolve to take action on whatever I put my mind to.
I will act upon making healthier life choices every day.
I will act upon making my work environment a place of peace, learning, and joy for the kids and myself
I will act upon making the year less stressful for my husband, by doing little things.
I will act upon making my own desires/dreams a reality, even if it is only one small step towards a dream.
Starting the year with reality to take action on: My weight is 237. Taking action beginning now. I couldn't get into Mary's suggested fitness thread, so I will ACT to lose 40 pounds by May 27. I know with action and the support of you lovely ladies, I can do this! Love to you all! xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)7 -

My goal is to track what I eat and exercise more often. I'm newly back to this site to get me more focus. I have lost over 40 pounds in the last year but have a ways to go. I need more help with meals, recipes and suggestions. My job is Homecare working which I love but usually eat in my car between clients. I need suggestion with good healthy meals to keep me on track.7
