Toni in TN – I am sure that a ‘frozen shoulder’ can be so for different reasons; mine definitely required Orthopedic surgery as the chip of bone was lodged between the socket and ball of my shoulder. Worst pain was reaching for something; and, it interfered with painting and drawing and that was what I wanted back the most.
Some of the medications I take give me ‘tremors’ in my hands … Neurologist did an MRI on head to compare it to one that was taken 3 or 4 years ago. Said it was not Parkinson’s but that is how he described the tremors.
I agree that being told you look younger than your year’s makes you feel so good. Keep it up.
I think that most people should ‘forgive themselves’ because it is difficult to ‘forgive’ others if you don’t feel good about yourself or can't 'forgive yourself'. Especially when you repeat the action and made others angry at you or disappointed.
My oldest granddaughter is a little older than her Dad was when she was born to his 18-year-old mother who would be 19 about 5 days later.

Toni - You are the same age as me!
There are a few "old timers" on this thread. I have a 40 yr old son. And a 37 yr old. I have to say I feel about 25 years younger than I did 5 years ago.

"Say hello to my little friend!"
DH ate it. Too rubbery for me! At at Asian Buffet for lunch. Definetly too much salt! Had the Hibachi, veggies and chicken, 1 egg roll, hot and sour soup, cucumber tomato salad, and fruit with a little vanilla pudding for dessert. Water with lemon to drink.2 -

You are very welcome to join! It is actually a challenge that is full of which I am a member of. I am posting the challenges here so that anybody on this site can participate right along with me as my workout buddy. Weigh yourself. And we will have a weekly weigh in by Saturday every week. The first challenge that they had was to take your measurements. The only other thing they posted was how to navigate their site. Glad to have you aboard with us!
Rita- you look fantastic! You have done in awesome job with all that you have been through.

Good morning from frosty, ice fogged, 4F Anchorage Alaska
Its a beautiful day - I love the ice fog - it makes everything sparkle like a winter fairy wonderland.
Thank you all for the great posts - its very inspirational and motivating for me.
Today I head out and pick up my grocery items and stock up on veggies and lean proteins. Egg white omelette with chicken and cheese this morning. Tonight its Dungie crab with steamed beans. One of the nice things about living here is the abundance of fresh fish, shellfish, and game.
I had tried and failed the weight watchers program, so I started my own weight loss planner book including photos of myself healthy and slim, as well as my biggie pics. Worked out a chart and picked up some fun stickers. "I LOVE STICKERS!" So as I lose I reward myself with a sticker, instead of food. I also put the stickers on the full length mirror in my bathroom where my scale is. When ever I lose, I add a little sticker to the top left corner of the mirror .. a little loss - a little sticker, 2 or more lbs lost - a big sticker. It's fun watching the sticker parade get bigger every week.
I've set up my walking exercise video's on YouTube to play on my living room television. It should be fun trying to do them with my dogs trying to join in.
I will continue reading your posts with great interest. Good ideas to try from everyone!
Many thanks

Rita! ... You look fantastic! And I also love the big smile ... yay for you!
Everyone is feeling better here this morning, which I am thankful for. We just about have all of the Christmas decorations down and will finish up here in a few minutes (taking a break since my knee started acting up). Then I will have to resort the boxes in the basement. I feel like the house is filthy (it's not), but this is the time of the year I feel compelled to really dig down and clean ... ties in well with my decluttering missions.
Welcome to all the new ladies!

Heather – I don’t feel 65; especially since losing 40lbs. I don’t have to have someone holding on to me when I walk. But, I do have to have someone pick up a 40lb bag of potting soil for me. But, that is a good thing. Got my hair cut; but, did not cover the gray because none of the men want me to do so. I’d probably look a lot younger; but, I am hoping that it will turn totally white like my sister’s; but she was much further along in her hair turning white than I am at this point. She was in her 40’s; Middle sister keeps her blond; but, I don’t think it makes her look any younger. If I did dye my hair, it would be auburn, since that is my natural color.
Beth – About this time of the year I usually go into a cleaning frenzy and it doesn’t stop until I had decluttered a few more things. My only shelving unit in my den is about as de-cluttered as it will ever be; and, it is crowded. I’m certainly NOT a mimimalist.
Pip - Name of machine is "Killer" ... it is just a 'matrix s drive performance trainer'. Like we have 'names' but we're 'humans'.

I brought in the New Year cheering my son and grandson across the finish line of their races. My grandson is age 10 and ran his first half-marathon. He came in with a time of 2:31!
I seem to recall someone else writing about planning to run an upcoming half-marathon, but I can't find that post now. Whoever you are, YAY for YOU TOO!
We just got a text message from our son and unfortunately our grandson and daughter-in-law are sick, being put on antibiotics, and may not be well enough to travel tomorrow. Maybe only our son and granddaughter will come, or maybe their entire trip will be cancelled. If so, hubby and I will have a few days all to ourselves before the workaday world starts spinning again. (How's that for making lemonade out of lemons?)

Rita, you look gorgeous, girl. Great job!
Karen, thanks for the pic of one lb of veggies. When you said that was your goal, I thought it would be impossible, but that looks totally doable.
Our pastor talked about the one word focus yesterday in his sermon. He said his was intentionality and a friend said hers was peace. I thought about it and chose perseverance. Logged on and saw that someone here chose the same word. Great minds! Keep on keeping on is what I plan to do.
Barbie, I ordered a used paperback copy of A Year Without Sugar from Amazon. Can't wait to read it.
Welcome to the newbies! I'm Kay from Northeast Georgia. I always forget to sign my name, so just call me Katie or Katiebug or whatever you want! I'm a "turtle" but have managed to lose 38 lbs since starting MFP several years ago. this is actually an old picture. I've lost a few more pounds since it was taken. I need a new one.

Happy New Year to all!
I've been absent for a long time but am going to try to resume daily visits to this group. I had a motorcycle accident in July - relatively minor as these things go, but I banged up my left leg and my right thumb pretty badly, and a knee immobilizer kept me either at my desk, on the sofa, or in bed for about a month. I couldn't drive because both of our cars are manual transmission. Now it seems like my physical problems are advancing faster than ever! I don't know if the hit to the knee (already arthritic, the ER informed me) accelerated existing inflammatory processes, or if the enforced inactivity resulted in new issues, but I really feel like I'm falling apart to a degree that doesn't seem explainable by age alone. I can't afford medical care, but I absolutely must find some way to take charge of physical issues that I can control - like my weight.
The year wasn't a total wash. I bought, and am using, a sit-stand desk. I started taking an antidepressant and had a few sessions with a counselor to help me sort out some things. After several months of way too much fast food, I've finally started meal planning and cooking again. I've been able to use the exercise bike for a couple of months now. Baby steps!
Last year was a hard one, and this year I'm just generally aiming for being a better me instead of making resolutions or setting goals. I like Neil Gaiman's 2017 wish:
"I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.
Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're Doing Something.
So that's my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody's ever made before. Don't freeze, don't stop, don't worry that it isn't good enough, or it isn't perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.
Whatever it is you're scared of doing, Do it.
Make your mistakes, next year and forever."
-Yvonne in TX8 -
Kay, beautiful pics. Thanks for sharing. We saw a gorgeous pic of you in your leggings and you were smokin'
Janetr OKC2 -
janet I agree I remember Kay's pic in those jazzy leggings, you look great Kay.
Yvonne sounds like you are on the road to a better year, so glad you are practicing self care. I am an advocate for mistakes, the best way of learning something.
Lenora I'm not ready to stop the hair color yet, folks tell me I am too fair and I don't wear makeup, so I would really age myself with grey (won't turn white either I think). However, I have stopped cutting it and have gone back to my ponytail/braid that I always preferred.
Had a very lazy day, but still hit the gym, handled laundry and ironing and sweeping out/reorganizing the pantry--but very relaxing day--back to work for me tomorrow

Hi Mary Can anyone join your .. challenge? I am part of the orginial 40 Lbs by May 27th challenge .. I am on the Pink Team .. but it seems to be pretty slow for now. Hopefully it will gain some speed! But I need all the accountability I can muster. I had my husband take before pics yesterday, I just need to take measurements.
Happy New Year everyone!
My word is Consistency! After messing around.. for years.. I am ready to get serious and find the me I lost!

Heather Bea is "Bea-utiful"! Warms my heart!
Barbie Forgot to say thank you for starting the new thread...so thanks!!!
Becca You go, girl! Sounds like you're psyched!
Re I know you are lurking out there somewhere!
I ate the whole pound of vegetables with no problem, just munched throughout the day, and here are my observations: 1) They were yummy. 2) They were guilt-free no-brainers. 3) They were really filling. 4) They were crunchy and naturally sweet. 5) I wasn't hungry at all the entire day and feel rather full now even though I still have calories left for the day. 6) I am already looking forward to choosing tomorrow's pound of raw veggies.
Some of you may remember that some weeks back, Penny posted a picture of her veggies for the day and noted that once she started eating a pound of raw veggies a day, her weight loss and exercise endeavors took off (do I have that right, Penny?) I have a feeling this is going to be a winning strategy for me as well, as I love fresh veggies and today was so promising.
Thank you, Penny!

Pip - You would have to help me up off the floor if I tried that machine!
Katiebug - You look wonderful! Remember that the tortoise won the race!
I know you might not believe me but this is true - My hair is still my natural color but with just enough gray in it to make it seem a little dull. I get highlights of brown, red, and a tiny wisp of gold about every four months. When my hair grows out the hair near my scalp is dark brown. Go figure.
So glad so many are joining our group!
Well time to get up and move......
Toni in very warm for January Tennessee4 -
Happy New Year ladies: So nice to have a fresh start although in truth everyday is a fresh start. I read somewhere that you should not worry about getting older, there are so many people that never have that opportunity. It is really cold and snowy here. Ice on the driveway and some on the roads so did not try to go to the YM this morning. Finally getting rid of the holiday leftovers around here and back to better eating.
Welcome to the newcomers. Keep coming back and add your 2 cents worth.
Becca - Sounds as if you are full of fresh ambition. You go girl!
Katiebug - I tried an anti-inflammatory diet but found it pretty complicated. I have just taken a lot of what I learned and try to lean my diet that direction. Andrew Weil, MD includes an anti-inflammatory diet in his book Healthy Aging. I liked the first part of it but it got into a lot of supplements at the end. I also had a guide for anti-inflammatory eating from SD Heart Hospital. SELF magazine has a nutritional data base online that includes inflammatory scale for various foods. Goal was to balance foods on the scale to reach 50 at the end of the day. My dietitian in Sioux Falls recommended that one but it can be pretty complicated.
Barbie - Hope Jake is feeling better and thanks for keeping us going.
Katla - My DH was really nervous about his cataract surgery and kept watching videos of it. But the first eye went very smoothly and he really did not remember anything of the actual operation. He was more than ready for the second.
Rita - lovely pictures.
Joyce - Glad your Christmas went well.
My goals for this month include getting 20-25 grams of fiber daily. I might have to try the one pound of veggies per day. I also want to spend more time with my horse doing something besides feeding and cleaning up poop! i will keep logging and I am going to start measuring. Thanks Mary.
Everyone take care to have a happy and healthy new year, Sue in WA3 -

Yes! Course you can! The more people that are in a challenge together the more support you will get! It is a little slow on all of the threads. Probably because Tiffany is in Florida until the eighth. Right now as you know they had asked for you to take measurements and put an informational thread up about how to navigate. Since there wasn't any challenges I thought it would be fun to get up and move! So today I am focusing on getting up every hour for 10 minutes and doing something, unless I am already up LOL! It will be great to get to know you! All of the women on this thread are very fun and motivational! You certainly came to the right place!
