Happy New YEar. Thanks Barbie for the thread. DH and I ended up in the ED yesterday and it turns out that despite our vaccinations, we both have influenza a. I also have bronchitis and a little asthma flare. Today I feel a bit better. I hope your day is well. Take care, meg from Omaha where it is raining!3

Good morning ladies! I think this is the first time I have ever logged on and only been 28 posts behind! Can I just say that I love this thread? I really enjoy reading your insights, your plans for the day, the way you inspire each other and your suggestions! One of my goals this year is to unplug more, and that came from Facebook because I find there is so much drama and negativity that it drains me. I am an empathetic person and it drains me to the core. I got so busy over the holidays that I didn't log on much and noticed that the less time I spent reading my "friends" posts on FB, the happier I felt! Go figure, right?!
This thread has the opposite effect on me. This thread makes me smile and makes me feel a part of a group of really wonderful caring women. So, although I want to unplug a bit, I am pretty certain that I won't be unplugging from this thread. In fact, it could end up replacing Facebook altogether! I feel so blessed to have found this group so long ago and plan to become more active and get to know you all better this year.
Today is my last day off for this holiday weekend. I had planned to get up early (FAIL), and get SO MUCH DONE! Well, now it's down to trying to decide what I have time to do. I hate when I do that, but I feel that if I don't wake up until 9:00, then my body must've needed the rest. I had a lot of trouble falling asleep last night so that's probably what did it. I'm a huge Green Bay Packers fan, especially since I live in Green Bay a few blocks from Lambeau Field, so stayed up late last night for the football game and was too excited to sleep. So, my plan today is to run to the Dollar Store and buy some new kitchen utensils and throw out my old mismatched measuring cups and measuring spoons and pick up a few other things that are a good deal there. Then I plan to sit down and get out my sewing machine and work on learning how to sew. I have made a few baby quilts but they are really bad!!! My kids call my quilts "Grandma Tracie" quilts because of all the mistakes but they know how hard I work on them and all the love and blood (yes, real drops of blood) go into them! Today, I plan to sit down and try to make some pot holders, so here goes nothing... LOL
Karen in Virginia I love the picture of the veggies! I think it as you that posted it? Sure looks good with all those colors. I cleaned and cut up my veggies for the week yesterday. Great idea to measure them out early and munch on them during the day. I think I will add that to my "to-do" list today...as soon as I get done here.
Cathie2903 Thanks also for the reminder to measure myself today. I don't have 40 lbs to lose anymore, but I do want to keep track of whether I am toning up or not. I am also excited to be here and get down to business!
Healther in the UK: I agree that I have to make exercise a habit! I am reading a book right now about how to better your life by creating new Habits. I can't think of the name but it is on my Nook and I'll find it later and let everyone know in case anyone is interested. Also, thank you for sharing Bea with us! What an adorable happy baby! You must just want to kiss those cheeks up nonstop!
Allie: I'm sorry you're going through a tough time. Sending you hugs. xoxo
Peach1948: Sounds like a GREAT day with the grands! Mine love going to the China Buffet. It’s one of their very favorite things. Have a wonderful day with them.
KJLaMore: Enjoy your trip to the library to get the Salt, Sugar, Fat book and Younger Next Year books. I hadn’t even thought of getting them at the library. Thank you for nudging this dusty brain of mine! I’ve been wanting to go there lately, but with having so many books in electronic format on my iPad, I forget I don’t have to buy every book I want to read. And I sure do miss browsing the books at the library…to me, turning the pages of a real book is so much better than reading on a Nook or Kindle. I think I just added going to the library to my "to-do" list today!
Lillian in West Central Saskatchewan: Brrrrrrrr! Wisconsin is supposed to get pretty cold in the next few days also. I feel your pain...
Rita from CT : You look fantastic! Thanks for posting the pics. Great inspiration!
Katla in Beautiful NW Oregon: I HAVE set some ambitious goals for myself this year. If I can achieve even half of them, I will be a much happier and healthier person for it. My biggest search this year is for peace and serenity. I have to let go of being such a "fixer" and taking on everyone else's problems and drama as though I need to take care of everything. It causes me so much stress. At 57 (soon to be) I should be enjoying life more and worrying less, and that is a huge goal of mine. Serenity is my word this year!
Have a great day everyone. I probably took up this whole page with my novel here. I'll keep it shorter next time, I promise!

Rita, great job, you look terrific. I love love before and after pics. Thank you so much for sharing. We all need that kind of inspiration to start off our New Year. Way to go.

I've been mulling over my resolutions for this year and what comes to mind over and over is Barbie's phrase she has shared many times with us. I'm picking just a part of it and paraphrasing it to my situation and resolve to keep this in my head ..."stop trading what I want the MOST for what I want at the MOMENT."
You all are such an inspiration to me and I agree with Traci "This thread makes me smile and makes me feel a part of a group of really wonderful caring women."

Hello MFPals!
Rita - Yeah! Keep it up!
Tracie - Love the way your little ones call your quilts Grandma Tracie Quilts.
Lenora - There are lots of causes for shoulder issues. They all limit range of motion. Shoulders may freeze up in those situations. But Frozen Shoulder is an actual diagnosis. It is not an orthopedic situation exactly. It is an inflammatory process in the lining of the capsule around the shoulder socket. My doc said it can also inflame the same type of lining that is around your humerus bone. If a person has FS, keeping the range of motion is really important just like it is in rotater cuff injuries or other ortho issues.
Heather - Good self reflection about the alcohol.
Gloria - I am considering Forgiveness for my word for 2017 - self forgiveness is what I really need!
My one and only son turned 40 in November! Talk about unbelievable! Surely I am not old enough to have a child that age. My students used to try to guess my age on my birthday. Some would guess something like 38 and I would say, "My son is 29. Now how would that work?" They would laugh and guess again. It always gave me a boost when they would guess so young. Loved those little ones! Actually being 67 is not so bad. It sure beats the alternative!
Love all of you -

Good Afternoon.
Since it is in the high 70's in FL... Did about 2.5 miles on my Hobie Mirage Eclipse ( SUP that you "walk" on) this morning but I have NO idea how to determine calorie burn on this form of exerercise. Ugh. Don't even have a guess.1 -

For those of you that are doing the lose 40 pounds by May 27 challenge with me there was nothing new on the challenge thread except for how to navigate the different threads on the site. I will update daily. As for me I am challenging myself to get up and move more! So, if you would like to join me in that, set your alarm to get up and move 10 minutes every hour.

afternoon all~
no resolutions for me ~ have enough on my plate for right now.. but the word for this year is HOPE..
It is tough to break a mold you have been in for a long time.. and I think Tom is feeling regretful for his treatment.. but what is done is done... and the other woman thing, like I said even if they are talking .. is just the straw that breaks the camels back..
some of you probably don't understand why I am just going along like it is all status quo.. but I just want things to go as smoothly as possible when the time comes.. dont need any more stress in my life...
we went together down to see DFIL he was a hoot this morning the man ate a whole bowl of scrambled eggs and 3 bowls of oatmeal.. I am guessing if he doesn't like what they have for dinner then he is starving by breakfast time..
Bea is just so adorable...

Toni in TN – I am sure that a ‘frozen shoulder’ can be so for different reasons; mine definitely required Orthopedic surgery as the chip of bone was lodged between the socket and ball of my shoulder. Worst pain was reaching for something; and, it interfered with painting and drawing and that was what I wanted back the most.
Some of the medications I take give me ‘tremors’ in my hands … Neurologist did an MRI on head to compare it to one that was taken 3 or 4 years ago. Said it was not Parkinson’s but that is how he described the tremors.
I agree that being told you look younger than your year’s makes you feel so good. Keep it up.
I think that most people should ‘forgive themselves’ because it is difficult to ‘forgive’ others if you don’t feel good about yourself or can't 'forgive yourself'. Especially when you repeat the action and made others angry at you or disappointed.
My oldest granddaughter is a little older than her Dad was when she was born to his 18-year-old mother who would be 19 about 5 days later.

Toni - You are the same age as me!
There are a few "old timers" on this thread. I have a 40 yr old son. And a 37 yr old. I have to say I feel about 25 years younger than I did 5 years ago.

"Say hello to my little friend!"
DH ate it. Too rubbery for me! At at Asian Buffet for lunch. Definetly too much salt! Had the Hibachi, veggies and chicken, 1 egg roll, hot and sour soup, cucumber tomato salad, and fruit with a little vanilla pudding for dessert. Water with lemon to drink.2 -

You are very welcome to join! It is actually a challenge that is full of which I am a member of. I am posting the challenges here so that anybody on this site can participate right along with me as my workout buddy. Weigh yourself. And we will have a weekly weigh in by Saturday every week. The first challenge that they had was to take your measurements. The only other thing they posted was how to navigate their site. Glad to have you aboard with us!
Rita- you look fantastic! You have done in awesome job with all that you have been through.

Good morning from frosty, ice fogged, 4F Anchorage Alaska
Its a beautiful day - I love the ice fog - it makes everything sparkle like a winter fairy wonderland.
Thank you all for the great posts - its very inspirational and motivating for me.
Today I head out and pick up my grocery items and stock up on veggies and lean proteins. Egg white omelette with chicken and cheese this morning. Tonight its Dungie crab with steamed beans. One of the nice things about living here is the abundance of fresh fish, shellfish, and game.
I had tried and failed the weight watchers program, so I started my own weight loss planner book including photos of myself healthy and slim, as well as my biggie pics. Worked out a chart and picked up some fun stickers. "I LOVE STICKERS!" So as I lose I reward myself with a sticker, instead of food. I also put the stickers on the full length mirror in my bathroom where my scale is. When ever I lose, I add a little sticker to the top left corner of the mirror .. a little loss - a little sticker, 2 or more lbs lost - a big sticker. It's fun watching the sticker parade get bigger every week.
I've set up my walking exercise video's on YouTube to play on my living room television. It should be fun trying to do them with my dogs trying to join in.
I will continue reading your posts with great interest. Good ideas to try from everyone!
Many thanks

Rita! ... You look fantastic! And I also love the big smile ... yay for you!
Everyone is feeling better here this morning, which I am thankful for. We just about have all of the Christmas decorations down and will finish up here in a few minutes (taking a break since my knee started acting up). Then I will have to resort the boxes in the basement. I feel like the house is filthy (it's not), but this is the time of the year I feel compelled to really dig down and clean ... ties in well with my decluttering missions.
Welcome to all the new ladies!
