I now NEED my workouts n if I don't get it in I feel off balance and CRANKY! never thought that could happen17

How self-righteous you get about your new healthy habits. "I can't believe they are eating that considering the size they are..."30
-
that your below the knee socks become over tje knee socks and you need them to keep warm.14

How cold you feel when it's winter brrrhhhhhhh1

I'm not at my goal but I am down to a 12/14 from a 24/26. Here's what I think no one tells you...
- People really do treat you differently...both men and women. Smiling, opening doors, rushing over to pick up something you dropped.
- Write your boobs off (especially if they were always mamma jammas). Mine deflated like the end of a Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. Sad but so true.
- You have to adjust how close you are to the car steering wheel. I realized I was really reaching one day. I guess there was more there before pushing me up and forward.
- Your mind really holds onto what you looked like before. I can't tell you how many times I've been surprised by the person looking back in the mirror at me. Or thinking that shirt is going to show my rolls only to have it be perfectly fine when I put it on. I don't know when the mental catches up but I bet you it's a big part of the reason people put pounds back on. You still feel like the fat girl.
- You can physically do more. This seems kind of obvious but I have to work harder to get my heart rate up in gym and more importantly I CAN work harder. I can walk at 4mi/hr at a 15% incline or even crank out a sprint run.

I'm cold constantly. I'm pretty sure it is due to being January in Minnesota, though.
I've only lost 30 of the 80 I need to lose, but I'm already colder this year.

I wish I would have taken measurements on my wrist. and I know that seems weird. but especially lately I stare at my hands and wrists a lot because I feel like they look so small. I also think my fingers somehow look longer but I think it's just because they are so pudgy. But I never would have really thought that would happen...21

I'm always behind my kids to put on socks or slippers or something warmer. They are always telling me back that they aren't cold. And I'm like, how can you be cold, it's freezing. And DH is like, how can you be cold? It's warm in here. What?!

During :
- You become regular and pee a lot
- once you see results it becomes addictive
- counting macros works wonders
- Try different workouts or activities other than the gym. Do WHAT WORKS FOR YOU. Make it fun and it will easily become a lifestyle change.
- The scale is your best friend and worst enemy
- You will get use your body feeling sore each day
After:
- Everyone wants workout advice
- People will say you look good while others will say you look too skinny
- You will go crazy shopping for new clothes and try and buy the items your were never able to wear. ( I did and I felt uncomfortable and shy still)
- You will get use to the attention and cat calls that will come your way.22 -
As a footnote to this thread (kinesiologist here). I don't know if this has been said yet, but people often feel cold during and after weight loss mostly due to metabolic changes and adaptations. Your body doesn't like the idea of being on a long term calorie deficit, or a deficit that's too extreme, so it compensates by reducing energy expenditure through reducing BMR (which makes you cold because it costs valuable energy to keep you warm) and sometimes even shutting down the sex organs since they aren't vital to your immediate survival. Typically that's how you know you've gone too extreme or need a break, if youve lost your sex drive and/or period.
Just know that after being at maintenance for a while you will often become a little less cold as your body adjusts again!51 -
Ditto on the cold thing. Nobody ever told me that losing weight meant that I'd be so freaking COLD all the time! I had to buy several sweaters for the winter, when I've never had to wear them before.5

Snap - I was looking at my hands today, wondering how my fingers got so long! And my wrists are so small and BONEY. I can circle one wrist with the other hand now - and slide my hand further down my arm. Weird, especially as I couldn't do this a few months ago. Oh, and the veins that are running all over my hands, wrists and arms . . . they're HUGE. And pretty yuck to see. I have one vein that gets bigger or smaller depending on whether or not I'm a bit dehydrated. And I can see my pulse on the insides of my wrists. Bleugh. And very creepy.6 -
How the Avatar pictures will change so much.7

EVER?!
(Are people who never had to lose weight perpetually freezing as well? How would they know as they'd have nothing to compare it to?)
You could always move to Texas. We're warm most of the time.
Not today though. Lol
No lie. LOL... the joke's on us today.1 -

I think this is a big one.

That increased running (specifically for me) may drastically increase your appetite... I took up running recently and I've been consistently HUNGRY.. and that's after eating back my exercise calories!! The intensity is not unlike me taking an additional class so I'm not sure why I'm so hungry now with this specific activity...(food choices have not changed)... I find myself sometimes just having to go SLEEP to stop munching!! I work out every day oftentimes twice a day (pretty intensely) but it wasn't until I incorporated the running that I haven't been feeling really satiated in the evenings... going to start juggling the bulk of my intake to the evenings.... any comments on this??6

My comment? Runners call it "runger."
My advice, though: you really only know how many calories you're burning if you're using a GPS watch and a chest strap heart monitor. A rule of thumb is that you burn 100 calories for every mile, but that is not the case for me. I'm 5'1", and my calories come out to 75 per mile -- even when I was much heavier I wasn't burning the 100. Luckily, running kills my appetite. But if it makes you really hungry, you have to be certain about the # you're really burning because it's probably pretty easy to eat too many back.9 -
Something else I've found is having to replace my computer chair. Being a sedentary obese nerd for so long meant that after I lost 60kg, I realised how uncomfortable my computer chair actually was. Needed more cushion to make up for the cushion that I'd lost!youdoyou2016 wrote: »That increased running (specifically for me) may drastically increase your appetite... haha, I call it getting rungry XD
I find that there's a sweet spot for my hunger with running. There'll be a run distance (it varies depending on what type of training I'm doing) that actually suppresses my hunger levels, and anything above that makes me want to fall mouth first into the fridge.
@Syneea I suggest experimenting a little with your post-run snack to see what helps balance your hunger for the rest of the day. I run first thing in the morning on an almost empty stomach (I only have liquids beforehand), and just have a brekkie with a full mix of macros (carbs for instant energy recoup, proteins and fats for the satiety). You'll find something that helps with the hunger through trial and error eventually.

How you become obsessed with buying workout clothes, cant stop looking at them now that they fit so much better.18

Thanks @youdoyou2016 and @mangrothian!
Yes the hunger is REAL! lol I'm 5'8", 140lbs. I gave myself a bit of wiggle room weight wise just for situations like this. lol
I have a Fitbit Challenger 2 that has been seemingly pretty accurate with gauging my heart rate.. the readings are comparable to what you mentioned.. maybe I will check out a chest HRM as well.. are they generally more accurate than wrist?
YES!! I need more experimentation with post run snacks... some type of appetite "suppressor"!! Lol I've started saving more calories for the evening when I've been my hungriest as well and will see if this levels out.
