A little late but a Blog about surviving Winter Running. They don't get into clothing but do offer some advice that we tend to forget/neglect.
HM on Sunday so suffering a bad case of Taperitise.2 -
@BeeerRunner - we call that a 'Halti' over here (the gentle leader). Absolutely brilliant for any dog that pulls, as it gently pulls the nose down meaning the dog can't physically move forward. Some people think they are like muzzles but not at all. My sister has a version that pretty much tightens over the dogs nose, and I absolutely hate it. It doesn’t do the same job at all and when we had to walk her dog through a field of sheep he got increasingly stressed about it (and the sheep, he didn’t quite know what they were).
@Honunui – nice turtle, and lovely clear seas.
@greenolivetree – you’d be surprised what you can do in dreams….@juliet3455 no special cookies needed…….
@JessicaMcB so sorry to hear your latest news.2 -
So, I'm only gonna post this once or twice, but every year I do one big fundraising effort for the Wildlife Conservation Society, when I run in the Run for the Wild 5k at the Bronx Zoo (super fun race btw!). This year I'm running for cheetahs, because cheetahs are awesome! If anyone else likes supporting causes like this you can donate to the Wildlife Conservation Society through my fundraising page here: e.wcs.org/site/TR/Events/RunfortheWildTeamraiser?px=3337243&pg=personal&fr_id=1190
Again, not going to be pushy or anything, just figured I'd put this out there in case there was anyone else out there who might be interested! Otherwise, feel free to completely ignore! Lol

Ugh, so many people I know (including my mom now) have caught the stomach virus going around. So far I've been able to stay clear of it, but I have a feeling it's inevitable. I just hope it waits until after next week. I have important things happening next week. I also don't want to have to stop running because I'm sick.0

2/3-1 mile with Stella+
I got lost with this thread overnight! 61 new posts! I have a busy work day, so sorry i won't be able to comment on them all!
I did a really sorry excuse for a mile with Stella this morning. She was in hyper-sniff mode. I think it took us about 15 minutes to get through 1 mile and a poop. I am still undecided if I will do my afternoon run today. I skipped my usual Friday speed work on the dreadmill because I have my 10K in the morning. That, coupled with my potential 20 miles on Sunday, have me thinking that taking it easy today with just some yoga might be the smart thing to do. I think I will leave that up to mother nature and see what the sunset looks like when I get off work. If it's pretty, then maybe I will do 3-4 slow and easy miles.
1 -
2/1/17 - 6 miles
2/3/17 - 12 miles

I had to skip my run last night. Too much work and not enough sleep. I can't run tonight because I'm taking my wife out for her birthday. I'm looking at a 20+ mile run Saturday though, so I have that to look forward too.5

Had a brief walk break in the morning and then had a really good walk at lunch. I hit a new PR for walking with a 15:07 mile. I usually am more in the 16-16:30 range. I guess the cold was making me move faster.
It's not even 2pm and I'm already at over 12,000 steps. Woohoo!

They also have some earrings that I totally would have ordered right away, but those I couldn't find on eBay or anywhere else. Probably a good thing for my bank account
@RespectTheKitty Congrats on the great walking PR!
@KatieJane83 You are right, cheetahs are awesome! It's crazy how fast they can run.

Good point @RespectTheKitty ! Even if one doesn't run at all, this is a great site to visit just to see the terrific photos.
I have got to work the next 2 nights (12 + hour shifts). Next run planned for Super Bowl Sunday...I hope to be able to run outside this weekend.0 -
@mobycarp a few years back my job changed and it honestly went from being very high stressed, I was a site lead for a contractor on the Army's biggest program, to a very low level stress job now. So I honestly can't complain when I have a crazy week. I think I'm just not used to it ha ha! One of the managers here know I'm so over qualified for the job I have now that when she had a chance to grab me for a program she did, however, unlike the rest of the folks on the program I need to keep doing what I was. Being away from my desk without a computer for a few days at year end is not a good look on me. LOL
Sorry I haven't kept up on the thread, I will go through and read. My hip is feeling almost 100% finally, so I plan to run tomorrow.3 -

Treadmill run again today. Stella is not feeling well so we didn't get out this morning.
@lporter229 sounds like our Stellas are so similar - sometimes it's a challenge to have a little four-legged running buddy. They make up for it with cute though.

2/3 - Ran mellow dirt trails through old mining tunnels. 7.3mi, 419ft vertical. Pretty flat. Slow/easy pace: 9:56/mi, with headwind. Gusts to 50mph. "Am I making forward progress?" That lean tho. Oh ya, this morning while eating Cinnamon toast crunch cereal, I decided to sign up for Vegas Hot Chocolate 15k. Day after Blood Sweat and Beers trail race which I'm going all out. Should be a decent double. Fast recovery run / maybe tempo with negative splits. Or 15k death slog haha. Pray for cold and clouds.

Speaking of parkrun:
http://blog.parkrun.com/ca/2017/01/31/parkrun-canada-prospects-map/
parkrun launched in Canada in August. Now, there are parkruns being planned there all over the place (the red markers).
Two are up and running, 42 in the pipeline!
(There are currently 1,058 parkrun sites with parkrun every Saturday in the world.)3 -
So glad I didn't blow off my run! I felt so chilly all day getting in and out of the car, but felt fine in my running clothes I think it was 37F feels like 29 when I headed out? I still worked up a sweat. It was a slow 3 miles. I thought about running longer but didn't want to worry the hubby since it was dark.3

Chilly nighttime run tonight (~28 F, realfeel around 21 I think), with my headlamp and blinky light on my back, lol. You know that feeling you get, after a certain number of miles, when you suddenly feel like you could run forever? Well, for the first time in my running 'lifetime', that feeling hit while I was running uphill, on the steepest hill of my 6 mile route! Lol. It wasn't a mountain or anything, but that's the first time that feeling started on anything other than flat ground. Hope it happens again, made that stupid hill much more enjoyable!
And this is what happens when you need to get 6 miles in, but you don't feel like doing your 5k route twice, and you don't feel like taking your longer run route cause it's on kind of a busy road and it's dark out - lots and lots of little out-and-backs down side streets, squeezing those extra miles in, lol

This cold is kicking my *kitten*. Was meant to hit a 15 but it was not happening. May have to do a 5km rest day tomorrow in advance of long run so my lungs don't mutiny
February 1- 15km
February 2- 11km
February 3- 11.1km
37.1 km/200km
