RITA ~ Are you and your hubby planning on traveling around the country in your RV? Or, are you staying in one particular place? Maybe the post office could hold your mail and forward it to stops along the way.

KATLA ~ What kind of dog do you have. The photo reminds me a lot of my Pom (only he is reddish/brown).

Sounds like the perfect group! So glad I started MFP app! It's really got me off my tailend and paying attention to what I'm eating. I've always been pretty active but winter time sure can pack the weight on a gal!! I must remember what Richard Simmons always says,"Move Groove & Lose"!! #WeCanDoThisYesWeCan!!

    Welcome to the new arrivals!

Marcelyn - So glad to hear you didn't have any real damage from the water! I talked to Dad last night and he said he didn't see anything like the gully-washer they were forecasting, so he and the other Houston relatives are all fine.

Betsy - How awful that your Mom's estate ended up being so divisive! I wonder what gets into people sometimes, and whether some people's grief somehow gets channeled into trying to hang on to the loved one's "stuff." Thank goodness your mother left a will, at least.

Lenora - I never had any problem in Austin, but here in our small town it's sometimes hard to find Andouille so when I see it at the grocery store I stock up!

Beth - I'm sorry your husband is in pain. I hope they find the source and a solution for it soon!

Meg - Yes, I wear my leggings all the time. I like to wear them with a long tunic or even a dress. They are much more comfortable than jeans, which was my previous "uniform" most of the time. With hot weather fast on the way, I need to get some more long, light-weight tops to wear with them.

Re - Oy. "Best health care system in the world" ... for people who can afford it. I'm overdue for a colonoscopy but it's over a thousand bucks out of pocket and I just can't swing it. (We have a $7,000 deductible to get through before it pays for anything.) Maybe later in the year if there's anything left in our savings account once the Internal Revenue Service has its way with us.

Michele - When the rest of us wanted the recipe for my grandmother's Thanksgiving pumpkin, someone had to stand next to her as she was making it to catch and measure everything before it went into the bowl.

Rita - Your mother's and sister's responses to a simple request sound so odd to me. It's not like tossing your mail in a box is a big imposition. People are weird sometimes. We know several people via the Facebook Casita group who are full-time RV residents, and it seems to me like a wonderful adventure. We bought our Casita completely gutted so it's a long way from adventure-worthy just yet. We need to get it back over here so we can get back to work on the restoration.

Well, I have a sneaking feeling my sweet husband has given me his awful cold. At least forewarned is forearmed - I've already started the zinc supplements. However, this likely means we won't be able to go to the reunion in College Station on Saturday, unless I bounce back a whole lot faster than he did.

Time to run. Sir Phineas the Maine Coon cat wants his attention now. For some reason he only wants holding and petting when I'm at my desk trying to work.

Accountability Post Progress update of my Feb goals.
    Tuesday's Results
    ✔1. Log/COMPLETE the entry daily.
    2. No eating after 9pm.
    3. Fiber 30g daily
    4. Walk 30 active Fitbit min daily.
    5. Declutter ✔️clothes, books, office supplies.
    6. In bed by midnight.

Got no words.... Had an after-hours binge on cookies and ice cream. Don't understand why... I'll be in bed watching something on YouTube. And it calls to me from the kitchen. I feel so much better when it doesn't happen. Need to have a talk with my DH about stopping or limiting the junk he brings in this house "for my DM90".

Taking the reins now. Today IS a better day. I'm heading off to my dental hygienist/check-up appointment an hour drive away. (Good drive with my music.) Then back this way to my mammogram appointment. Think I'll do some walking at the hospital. Very pleasant there. Then home to finish up my chores. And try out the Bowflex. I tried it yesterday and realize there's going to be some time before I can do a 14 minute workout on it. It got my heart rate up pretty quickly in the 1-2 minute try out yesterday. I'll spend a little time getting to know the machine. Start logging my efforts in their app.

So - it's good I logged the binge and completed the entry. And it's good I talked about it here. And it's hood I'm posting my accountability post. Today is a better day. Tomorrow I'm posting all check-marks!

    Have a great day folks!

Hi there. My name is Bianca and live in South Africa. I've been hanging out here for about 1,5 yrs and will join this group "officially" next week Thursday 'cause that is when I turn 50. I was however wondering how you felt turning 50? I dread it and already miss 'being in my 40's'! I see my skin and body change and miss my youth...

Re – I don’t know if you have any insurance, or not; but, hospitals and MDs office will try to get as much as possible to cover those who don’t, even charging them more. Also true of someone with Medicare that is primary. If you came up with the deductible, quite often they try to get it first. IF you are on Social Security; and, if that is your only source to pay medical bills and if that entity accepts payment from them, they are ‘supposed’ to cover it as charged and write off the balance. It is amazing that a lot of people don’t know this; and, having one that accepts it is even rarer (unless you have been grandfathered in with them). It’s getting harder and harder to find MDs, especially, that will accept Medicare at all. When I need a specialist I get my referring MD to find out ‘if’ they accept it, because we could not pay it, if they don’t. I have secondary insurance and I still have to sign the form that says I will ‘pay the difference’ if Medicare and my BC/BS doesn’t pay it. Usually, it does get paid off, no problem. About the only thing that is not covered are ‘injections’ (like a vaccination). My weight-loss program is not covered, except for the first meeting with the Nutritionist. We just ‘sucked it up’ and are paying for it.

Because I have started adding real food, for at least one meal, I have a good bit of the ‘product’ so I only pay for the visit and an injection (not covered under that) myself; which is normally less than $50. I need to go by and pick up some 'vitamins' from them this week. I never 'think' about asking when I have gone 28 days; and the bottle only has 2 in it. Other than the bars, that I still eat with my evening coffee my cost to them is 45% of the total (weekly) if I had to buy all the product to last me 2-weeks. But, I have lost 40lbs and I am 10 -15lbs away from my goal. Gee, I would have been ‘pissed’ if the actually said, ‘too bad, so sad, don’t know who you talked to, that that was incorrect'. And, I thought the nurse I dealt with was 'flippant'. Whenever I call someone about anything that I might need to ‘dispute’; I ask their name and ID #. When I can rattle that off – usually they back down. Someone might get their heads ‘rocked and rolled’; but, I probably would have said, 'then I will pay it as much as I can until it is paid off, just bill me'.

That sounds like when the nurse from my Neurologist called yesterday with my ‘lab’ results; she almost gave the results of someone else’s results; then caught herself and said, ‘well I was multi-tasking and these are your results. Multi-freaking-tasking. I’m glad that I had gotten the results of the MRI and taken them to my GP and have an appointment with him about the results which I have ‘questions’ about and what the prognosis means. Believe me, when I go back to my Neurologist … I will tell him ‘what his nurse did’ when I HAD to call THEM about the results of my MRI. Not that he will do anything about it. Unfortunately there are only 2 in town; and, he is a replacement for the one I had been going to, whose partner was not taking her patients because she had too many herself. This man is only in the office 2 or 3 days a week. When he told me to come back, the receptionist gave me an appointment 8 months out (unless, of course, if I have another seizure). Which I hope to hell I don’t. The only EEG I have had was the first time I saw the Neurologist who did it back when I first started going. When I asked about the EEG, and ‘if’ I would have another – only if I have another seizure. Apparently, it will only show up them, if I am continuing having seizures that are much milder than one that would have brought me there in the first place. I don’t know; but, it would be a ‘bit better’ if I knew I had that going on. Maybe that would explain why some days I don’t feel or want to get out, or drive my car.

I woke up early this AM to have coffee that is ‘fresh’ with Louis, then went back to bed and slept until 10:30! Usually I only sleep to 8:15- or 9:30am. I must have had my sleep catch up with me because the last 3 nights I have not gone to bed until 1:30am.

I sent the Weight Chart to a friend of mine out of town. She said that she only weighed as much as a model (if that). She has lost a lot of weight due to ‘stress and purging her home’ daily. She is almost finished with that chore (only her grown daughter’s room and husband’s office). Then she is going to get ‘someone’ else to lay her kitchen floor down; she is tired of waiting for her DH to lay it down. Of course, in this case the “D” does not stand for ‘damn’.

Beth – I only weigh-in every other Tuesday, and ‘never’ on my scales at home; because they are not accurate, at all.

Karen – Holding that dear sweet Olivia had to feel good.

Michele – Now we know the ‘target’. I love using Cortana; mainly because I do not have to ‘exit’ out of what I am doing to find out what I want. I hate that I don’t have anyone to play Mexican Train with. Don’t think it is any fun without, at least 3 minimum playing. Got and question about the rules. I know each of us are supposed to play our own train as far as we can before starting the rotation. Do we only have 1 train line we can play on; or can any of us start a new train if we have a tile to play on it from the double in the middle? We were playing at the Women’s Retreat and a lady, who did NOT want to play with us, came in and watched a little and said, ‘you are supposed to only play one extra train. I could understand if there were 4 of us playing; because we’d only have one extra each to play; but, then if we had a train on it, that person who have to be able to play the next time the rotation came around (correct?). When a double is laid down, does any place able to open it, or does the one who laid it down have to do so (even ‘if’ they might be able to play on their own train and would have a train on that line because they could not play it any further. Also, if when you pull out your tiles and start laying them down; what does one do if they do not have a tile to play on? Keep drawing and run the risk of having 25 tiles before they play? We made up a ‘rule’ for that because we had it happen a couple of games. We decided that the person who had one for it to be started would give it to them and pick up a new tile to replace it; usually starting with the one to the right of us and going around the table that way until someone could do it; then, we’d continue to the left to play. We could not find anything online that answered those questions and my directions did not address it. They have to have picked 5 tiles without picking one to play. Thanks.

Barbie – In 5 years when I get my next one done, I will definitely ask about that clear prep; as drinking what they give you is not only ‘awful’; but, terribly draining. [no pun intended]

Yvonne – Our DYS brings it home from Louisiana … that and another kind that has a lot of rice in it. The biggest problem on one that he brings home is that it is packed with a lot more than we can eat. Don’t know if we can cook it and refreeze it, that way. Of course, some that he brings has been smoked, so it really does not have to be cooked first. My DOS tore up the machine I had to seal food; but, instead of buying a new seal; he went out and bought a ‘new’ machine for himself, and I still don’t have my old one back. I think I am going to ask if I can ‘use’ his. I really do not want to go out and have to buy a new one for us. Might have to because I griped so much about them ‘borrowing my vacuum cleaning, without asking, and then I’d have to go down there to get it when I needed it’. I think it was a present to my DDnL#1.
OOooo, having a Maine Coon cat … one of them families my DMnL used to ‘sit for’ had 3 of them. Damn big cats … and I thought that Tux is a big cat when he has his winter coat on.

Damn, it is already 2:00pm; where did my day go? Oh, right ... slept until 10:30am ... that does it.

Bianca from South Africa - I LOVED turning 50. We're so attuned to how others think of us for so much of our lives, and told to "be a good girl," and on and on and on... Somehow, 50 freed me up to realize that not everyone in this world has to love me, and I don't really care if someone likes me, either. It does not impact MY life if they don't deal well with me. As my sister puts it - "It took me 50 years to like myself, and I don't have that kind of time to spend on convincing anyone else."

Got the DH ensconced in the recliner with a couple of pillows to keep his arm up and comfy... went to work to check e-mail quick and talk to the boss, a few more errands, and then went and worked out. That part was important to me, which shows I'm turning one corner. A few more in sight.

    Love y'all,

    Hello ladies -

Been getting in the water this week: 90 minutes yesterday with aerobics class and water jogging; today did 60 minute deep water workout. Sooooo good to get back to it.

Karen - glad you got to cuddle with Olivia!

    Lisa - Prayers for Corey.

Meg - ditto for your hubby. Let us know how he is doing.

Rita - sounds like others are causing a little drama about your new adventure. It's your life and it sounds like you are really excited about it. Don't let them rain on your parade. Love the name for your RV!

Heather - maybe you can cook your way through the funk til your mojo returns. You are so creative! Girlfriend meetups are always nice.

Tomorrow is my monthly reunion breakfast with friends from my old YMCA. We meet at a restaurant. Looking forward to seeing them. One of the guys is a "snowbird" so he won't be back until April! He's one of my favorites, so I'll miss him. I usually just have coffee and visit. I am hoping to drop by to see my son and family afterwards because they live in the same area.

I have been forgetting to post my blood pressure and 2 hour blood sugar (telling y'all each day keeps me honest.). I am checking it daily. Have only missed one or the other 3 times. Last night they were BP 129/66 and BS 120.

Carol: My dog, Schooner, is a Keeshond. The old-time name for the breed was Dutch Barge Dog. He is our second Keeshond and we really like the breed. He was one of the smallest pups in his litter. He weighs about 27 pounds. Our first dog was a female and very large for the breed. She weighed between 35 and 40 pounds. I think that Keeshonds & Poms are in the same dog family. :flowerforyou:

Heather: Thanks for passing on news about Penny. Send my good wishes her way.

Bianca from S Africa: Welcome to a great group! I don't remember how I felt turning 50, other than tired most of the time. I had a long commute and a difficult job, and I was gaining weight due to stress. I'm healthier and happier now than I was back then. In my experience, getting older has been a wonderful experience so far.

We are having a very wet day. I'm supposed to go to the stable this afternoon to work with the horse, BUT we'll see how things go. The stable is having drain field work done and it is soggy wet around here. They may not be able to accommodate another car in the parking lot. I'll check in with the owner a little before three o'clock & see how it is going. DH said that there is a warning for potential landslides all along Highway 30 between Portland and the coast. We've had enough rain and snowmelt to saturate the soil; that is for sure. The hillside just above my house is granite so we aren't too worried about landslides at home.

    February 2017 Resolutions:

    1: Log every bite and swallow;
    2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on strength and stamina.
    3. Have fun every day.
    4. Drink at least 3 glasses of water a day.
    5. Monitor sleep. Average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly.

TNToni - Thanks for reminding me to do something that I had written down; just have not put into Excel to print it off to take to my MD.

Lisa - I am not sure which birthday I had trouble with - whether it was 60 or 65; because the same year Louis turned 70/75. Actually, I don't think it really hit me until we met with our insurance agent to see what, if anything, she can do to bring our insurance down. Got called by someone with them, asking all types of questions. I got a bit 'bent out of shape' because I could not specifically tell him the full address of their offices and did not want to take the time for me to look it up. I told them that they'd get it; by just putting their freaking street name on it. Not so sure they will get the Neurologist in town, or the Neurosurgeon in town; but, they can look it up. My Neurologist is a 'contract' MD with the local city hospital; not sure about the other. But, pretty sure she has gotten mail that needed to be forwarded. I think I probably am going to get 'denied' due to 12 medications I take a day. So, that means I will have to keep what I have with another one. I was surprised that I had that much. Asked Louis what his plans were. Yep, I know, 'that's what the girl at the picnic wanted to know'. Never mind!
