Goochinator: Welcome. Weight loss takes its own sweet time. 3.5 pounds in a month is progress the right direction. Celebrate your accomplishment. Stick with us as long as you like. To succeed at this task, I need to keep on counting calories forever; otherwise I'll slide back into old bad habits and end up where I started. I suspect that is true for many people. Good luck. :flowerforyou:
Heather: I'm glad you're doing so well. I guess I misunderstood something you said earlier. I am having a little bump in weight and need to deal with it now. There has been quite a bit of stress connected with DH's eye surgeries and their timing, and I've slipped a little. I'm back to good behavior now & expect to see things back where they belong shortly.
Karen: I'm going to copy your Churchill quotation into my list. It is eloquent.
Kate UK: Thanks for shahring the photos!
Yoga today was delightful. This was my first class with one of my favorite instructors in several weeks. She's been gone part of the time & I've been gone part of the time until this morning. It felt wonderful.

Heather – When I lose weight I lose it from my face first; and, it is my plan not to look ‘haggard’ no matter what my goal ultimately becomes. Right at the moment my goal is to get to the middle of the range that includes 27. I’ve been 1 point off before and that was when I was under 160; then I found those 5 or 6 pounds. Hiding somewhere between my den and kitchen (when I by-passed my treadmill). I will be so happy when the pool can be opened and I can get in it.
Becca – Looking good!
I’m hoping that next week will bring the ‘smile’ back to my DOS’s face. Hate what he is having to do. Hate that this marriage is ‘hanging by a thread’, at best. Just guess I hope that DDnL#1 ‘surprises’ him by not doing the 2 things he has threatened he’d do if she did. Maybe it will stop the arguments and cursing and threatening to do things that make the girls unhappy during it. On one hand, I hope she decides to leave him; on the other I don’t want him to be ‘lonely’. Unfortunately, we did not meet under ideal circumstances and that has always been a ‘bone of contention’ that she keeps dredging up. At least the last time; Louis was home and I let him do all the talking. But, when it starts coming to my ‘doorstep’ it is time to speak up; and, I did to my son this last week. Cleared the air, so to speak.
KYKARN and Katla – “… before the devil even knows you’re there!”
Kate – I was just about to ask if they are like NYC; after a confetti parade and clean it up as soon as it happens. I see the trash truck and street sweeper. I’m not sure that I would want to be on that float in the 2nd picture unless they have a brace around their waist.
“The Dummy Line” by Bobby Cole is a good book and the first in a series of 3; then he has 2 stand-alone books. It’s been so long since I have read “The Dummy Line” but, I do remember it was ‘good’. Local library told me they were 'not in their system'; but, a week later they call me and tell me they are available. They are 'new' books, too (paperback, never been read before). I'd rather have a 'hardback' because I am rough on a paperback. I usually put a couple of rubber bands around then until I take them back.
Lisa – You’re right … “This too shall pass … and it ‘will feel like a kidney stone’. DOS has not passed a kidney stone; but, I think he will soon … “but remember it’ll pass!”

Hello, Saucy Sisters!
Another glorious day in Texas. We are WELL into Spring here, with temps in the high 80's or even 90+ today. Soon, we will have to turn on the AC, or die of heat prostration.
I was able, just by the skin of my teeth, not to have to post a gain on my Summer Challenge... While I have been fighting the battle of the M&M - I have NOT gone crazy enough to have any gains, so either there is an error in my calculations, somewhere, or I am retaining water, again. *sigh*
Since I have had some questionable eating days, I will not just assume it's water, as I have in the past. I must say, I preferred the certainty of KNOWING it was just water to this ridiculous feeling of dread that it might not be. I may have to go back to my old method of calling myself "lightly active" and NOT eating back the exercise calories. It was a little more rigid and regular - which worked very well for me. I will review for that next week, if I am still having this uncertainty. Or I may just try (*harder*) to eat back only half of the exercise calories.
I would be FINE if I could manage an hour on the elliptical... but dang... the pedal backward with the higher resistance and incline are kicking my butt. More than 30 minutes is a hardship. More than 45 is nearly impossible... at least so far.
AND - just as the icing on the cake - my scale at home has taken to taunting me. It randomly throws out readings at 198 or 199 - just to mock me - and then goes back to the normal numbers between 205 and 209. Have I mentioned how I hate digital scales? *sigh.* I am truly having that experience of "So close and yet so far."
But, to offset this scale taunting - I have my Dearest Darling Husband telling me, about every other time I walk into the room, how I am getting curvy, skinny, or sexy. None of which hurt my feelings one little bit. I knew there was a reason I have kept the old goat around all these years...
So, as always, it's a roller coaster ride round here... Up, down and loop the loop. Between the taunts of the scale, and my DH chasing me around the living room (ya huh, I let him catch me now and again ), I am trying to eat more protein and vegetable - which invariably means less carbs - and keep on doing my strengthening exercises.
Wall Squats and Presses and Lifts, Oh My...
Loving all the BABIES!! They are so adorable! and the fur Babies, too... and the vicarious travelling and cooking... So many wonderful women, doing so many wonderful things!
Hugs for Everybody!

Katla, Beth, Margaret and many others - the stress of worrying about other people takes such a toll. :flowerforyou: When I was so sick on holiday it was DH who felt the strain. I was just resigned and "surrendered". I have been trying to ignore DH's chesty cold this week, but sometimes his grumpiness irritated me. He is getting better now. I am not much of a nurse and would do everything I could to avoid that role. I know my limitations. Short term is fine, like when DH suffers from severe anxiety, but I really admire those of you who have taken on long term caring roles. I am not a patient person.
I have never asked anyone to go to the doctor with me, or even go to the hospital with me, other than a short visit. I really would not like it. Of course, if I were truly incapacitated I would have no choice. My great fear is to be dependent on others. I intend that never to happen long term.
When I took the Myers Briggs test it confirmed how I feel. I used to feel guilty that I wasn't a nicer person and thought that I could make myself nicer if I tried hard enough, but I am happy now with my limitations. I have other strengths. One of those strengths is selfishness.
Sending love to all the true carers out there. So glad you are in our lives.

Hello ladies,
Rita Aw I hope things get better <hugs>
Margaret I like to believe that most people mean well. They don't always have the skill to know what to say or do or the mindfulness to know what not to do. Hope things improve for you
Katia I would love to see that voracious cherry tomato plant, mine didn't do so well last year. So jealous of your blueberries. I go to an organic blueberry farm nearby every weekend from when they open until the last berry is gone!
Goochinator Welcome
Re We must have the same scale. Mine does not want to go under 200 but I WILL succeed and the scale will lose, pardon the pun!
Had a great day, work was productive, worked out with my trainer at noon, ate well and good stuff planned for dinner. I go to Toronto tomorrow until Sunday for work. This is where I will be challenged as I can't prepare any of my meals. I can workout so that is good. Wish me luck!

Re- I am very impressed with your hard work and dedication to exercise. Your DH Chasingyou around the room is one of the consequences of losing weight good or bad like you say you are very curvy! I would definitely get rid of the M&M's. They were the downfall of one of my dieting attempts! My freezer is full of candy and desserts. In case I really really really want something. I am planning ahead for a carb refeed day this Saturday. I will have 2 a month. Knowing that I will be able to have whatever I want then keeps me inline now.
Katla - Happy Anniversary tomorrow! Enjoy your dinner with your DH
Margaret - fantastic picture! I hope you are feeling better!
Heather - your croissants looked delicious! You are so talented!

evening Ladies~
today has not been a good day for me..walked into work today to find that they had hired a new office manager..
we knew they were looking, but gave us no clue, until she walked in and said Hi I am the new office manager...
she is 26 yrs old and has worked at a dental office for 2 yrs...
and all of us well you know we have been around for a long time.. so the girl that is working part time who is the office manager in Hartford will be going back to her office once she has helped Claudia settled in... but they also have a young girl that is the assistant on Mondays and Weds.. I have been working up in the office on mondays and weds... I am having kittens.. Until I talk to my boss, it feels like they are sorta pushing me out...
I don't need this on top of everything else..0 -

Hello ladies: It is spring for sure now, the horses are shedding like crazy. We have had two dry days and I actually got a small part of the front lawn mowed. Spread the clippings out on the horses hay and they enjoyed a little bit of fresh grass.Doing well on eating today and did an hour of yoga in addition to the lawn mowing.
Katla - Happy anniversary. Enjoy your meal out. I am glad the water is staying away from your door. Your day with Arrow sounds heavenly.
Lisa - Such a lovely poem from a talented woman.
KJ - That boy is a cutie. When will you get to see him again? I know it won't be soon enough.
Rita - Hope your month gets better.
Kim - Hang in there! You are one strong woman.
Margaret - Glad that things are looking up a bit.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA2 -

2. Fiber 30g (got 20g)
✔3. Track/complete entry daily
✔4. Vegetables - big salad daily

✔6. No eating after 9pm.
7. In bed by midnight.
8. Declutter: ✔Office Supplies, Electronics, Music, Craft Supplies, Cleaning Supplies, Utility Drawer, Utility Closet
• Fiber - Backed off fiber yesterday. Stomach pain on left side - slightly constipated. Didn't want to add to it. But got 20g anyway. More than I would before I was focused on it.
• Exercise -Only got 13 minutes of exercise yesterday. Need to do some intentional exercise. Thinking of joining a Spring 100 mile challenge. Walk every day and report it on Fridays.
• Sleep - I was up until 5am... for no apparent reason. Had a nice relaxing soaking bath then got on my sofa with my iPad and watched YouTube videos.
• Declutter - I did some decluttering - just not in my listed areas for this month's goal. I've got 2 weeks to catch up!

Heather ...You said: I really admire those of you who have taken on long term caring roles. I am not a patient person.
I don't think most of us have had any choice in whether or not we take on long term caring roles ... more like they're thrust upon us. Sometimes I severely resent it. Sometimes I'm resigned to it. Sometimes I embrace it. Like you, I am definitely not a patient person! But this fact has actually served me well over the years. As well as a fair amount of selfishness ... which if I didn't have, I would long ago have been buried under the overwhelming load of it all. You might not like it, but I suspect you would make an excellent caregiver if pushed into it!

Good evening MFP friends.
Lisa-I loved your tribute to your Mom. I still miss mine everyday.
Kate- I saw your video and also the fire that burned up the statues.
Re-thanks for your suggestions. I'm not a cottage cheese fan unless it has pineapple in it and pineapple is not allowed. One of the nurses told me if you can cut it with a spoon you can have it. I need to get some canned fruit tomorrow. Never ever give up and good things will happen with your scale. (((Hugs)))
Becky- .8 is a good loss. Remember to look back at how far you've come and be proud.
DJ- I can do canned veggies but I prefer fresh or frozen. But I have to cook them so much they are like mush.
Joyce- the photo of your home without the shrubs shows an amazing difference. Good for you. It took me several years to convince DH that the Line of shrubs dated our house.
Kim- I have made some soups but not smoothies. I guess that is something I need to do. Thanks.
Michele- I get tired just reading what you do in a day. You are a super woman!!,
Karen- Olivia is growing so fast.
Kelly- love the picture of Joaquin after nursing.
Katla - Happy Anniversary. Yes, I can have canned fruit but unfortunately I need to buy some. I finished up the antibiotics on Saturday and am beginning to feel normal.
Worked in my yard this mornings nag for a couple of hours. Planted my "rescued" irises then made a new bed so I would have somewhere to plant all the he irises I dug up a couple of weeks ago.

Love to all of you,

I am an M&Ms type person myself. But it has to be the chocolate only. I don't care for the peanut, etc. And I don't like mint anything except Girl Scouts Thin Mints. But if I am going to cheat and have chocolate, I prefer to go all the way and get a Milky Way or Snickers.
We got the new front door put in today. The cat really enjoyed it. I worried that we would have to put her in the office and close the door but we didn't have to. They had a bit of trouble with it though. As I have said before, Charlie has problems opening his billfold so we went with just a slab door. We measured and we were pleased that we could purchase a standard door. But when they came out, it was 1 inch to tall. So they took one inch off the top then sanded it real well, bored the holes for the locks and tried to hang it. For some reason, the left corner wouldn't fit. They had measured and measured so in theory it should have fit like a glove. But it didn't. We aren't sure what they did since we weren't out there but it fit fine. They did put the door knob upside down so when you put your key in, it has to be upside down. So a one hour job took 3 1/2 hours. So they didn't get a chance to get the back door on the garage done. Hopefully it will be done tomorrow. But Melody enjoyed the fact that there was no door. She has occasionally gone outside when she has a chance and just sniff the grass and sometimes take a taste. Well right up against the porch is no longer grass but moss now for some reason. I hope it doesn't bother her. But after that she just went and sat on the threshold and enjoyed the wonderful fresh air we had today. When a loud car came by she came in and ran underneath my bed.
So as soon as the back door and garage door is put in, contractor will notify the painter it is his turn. I will be so excited to get that done!!!! It will be the same color pattern but will be fresh. we were looking tonight and the columms are a lighter grey than the front door and garage that are more protected from direct sunlight. But this new painter will be using a much better quality of paint.
Watching the premier of Dancing with the stars. Not sure what I think o some of them but it is just the first week.

KJ - love the picture of Joaquin. What a cutie with that big smile.
Got most of the paper cleared off my desk this weekend. Have a few things to finish yet, but I can see the bottom of the pile. Talked to my grandson last night - such a joy. He's 10 and loves to visit. Can hardly wait to see him again.
Offering prayers to those who need then, and hugs to those who want them. Hope you have a great day tomorrow.

Margaret: I hear and feel your pain! Mom will be in transition care 2-3 months. Today spoke with her care case nurse, 26 years young, she's worried moms fatigued. I thinks she's doing great for 94, unable to walk, move, hold a spoon, talk, sit, in a coma 2 weeks ago, congested heart failure. Now PT , OT speech therapy twice daily, unknown future, I think she's doing tremendous! Medicare has their guidelines, what has happen to logic? Seems like each day a new battle, just to keep her safe. We need a long lunch❤️4 -

Carol – I feel the same way; I know that I miss those posts that are getting posted about the same time I hit “post it” … I have even started going back to the previous page, even then I get that ‘deer in the headlights’ look because someone will bring up an ongoing story and I feel like I have dropped through a ‘Swiss Cheese” hole.
Re – Here in Southwest GA, it is ‘cool’ enough in the AM for a sweater; but, by noon you are trying to figure out what you can take off and still be ‘presentable. One moment I want long pants, then I want to find a pair of shorts for myself.
Congrats on not gaining on your Summer Challenge. Turn those M&M upside-down and pretend they are "Wicked Witches" and you need to run away! To fight the water retention, make sure you are drinking at least 8 8-ounce glasses of water a day (or more). Your body is going to fight you if you try to starve it and that includes ‘water’. Feed the beast; drink more water and you will feel fuller and then your calorie count will probably go down. It is sort of like when my GYN tells me to sit on the toilet every 10 minutes, whether I feel like I need to go or not. Most of the time I will; but, it also helps get out what is making me have UTIs. Flush it through! That, and a lot of cranberry juice. But, since cranberry juice has calories, I opt for the water.
I don’t eat back my calories too often; but, when I go over on my calories it is good to see that my calories out is higher than my total calories in. We gave our elliptical machine to son, because he is more likely to use it. Neither Louis nor I could get much more than 3 or 4 minutes on it. We are both short-legged and I don’t think the stride was ever able to be something we could do. Son and when DOGD comes home, they will walk on it. When my DDnL#1 said she had done 30 minutes on it; and, I wondered ‘on what planet’???
OMGoodness, the cake that was bought at Wal-mart was to ‘die for’; but, I only ate about 3 tablespoons full. Chocolate Hersey something or the other. Cake moist and had a sort of pudding in it. GREAT! DOGD turned 21 on the 12. I don’t weigh on my scales for the exact reason. Digital and never the same reading. I can step up, get a number, step off and back on and get a different one. Makes me want to sling them ‘out the door’.
I’m with ya! The closer I have gotten to my goal, the harder it seems to break through and get to it. Losing and finding the same pounds!
Hey, that kind of comment from DDH is a wonderful NSV!!!!!
Heather – I am not particularly looking forward to next week. DH has to have a procedure that means he will be wearing a urine bag. Hurts and he is also fearful of it leaking.
Margaret – Thanks for the flower show. Sad that Macy’s is closing there. When we lived in Macon we had a Macy’s/Davison’s there. It changed names many times; but, always opened up as a department store (mostly clothes; but, everything else as well). A good one-stop shopping store. Now that we live in SWGA, not a lot to choose from. SteinMart closed here but is still open in Columbus; but, I never think to go on a ‘day trip’. Maybe soon. Other than a few strip malls; the mall’s largest stores are Dillard’s, Penny’s, Belk’s, and Sear’s and I think I heard that Sears was going to ‘close’ here. I just hope that they leave K-Mart alone. They’re owned by the same corporation and that is where I get all my drugs. If they do, I will probably go to CVS because I get my mail order Rx’s from them.
Mary – My ‘chocolate fix’ has come in the way of the chocolate protein bar I eat every night. Just the right amount.
Pip – Awww, is he ‘sick’ or just likes the ‘comforter’?
Took the M/B’s test and I am an INTP personality. Could you tell that? I have to agree, that’s ME! With the highest % being the "P" part.
I wonder if the ‘numbers’ change if you have a birthday? Like not have to get to a certain number to be considered ‘within normal range’. LOL!

Heather: Your Myers-Briggs information tickled my interest, so I looked it up and chose some letters. Then they wanted me to click on a link and a bunch of stuff would be downloaded to my computer. I am reluctant to do that step. Did you download their stuff? If so, did you end up with a big file? Was it worthwhile?
Sarah: My blueberries are southern varieties. The bushes are relatively small and they don't require a winter freeze to produce fruit. There are three bushes, two are Sunshine Blue and the third is Bountiful Blue. It supposedly cross-pollinates with the other two to improve the crop. The two Sunshine Blue plants have berries with the best size and flavor. I've only been growing them for a few years and consider myself a novice. Last summer I picked and froze enough berries that I still have them with my breakfast several times a week. I'm on my last freezer bag and will likely run out before the new season begins. I'll buy a bag in the freezer case at the store to last me until this year's crop is ready to pick. I've been growing the cherry tomato Sweet 100 for many years. It is an indeterminate plant that routinely gets huge and produces more cherry tomatoes than I can eat or give away. My growing space is small and I've decided to skip growing my own tomatoes this year. It is likely I'll get volunteers. I don't know whether I'll be disciplined and weed them out, or end up letting one grow. :flowerforyou:
Mary: Thanks for the happy anniversary wishes.
Beth: I agree with your comments about care giving. I married DH knowing he was an insulin dependent diabetic. I didn't anticipate his stroke or MS. When things come up, you deal with them in the best way you can. The sun keeps coming up, and you keep doing what you can. I think Heather is a strong and courageous woman and that she would do what is needed. I hope health remains good and life is fun for she and her DH, and for all of us.
DJ: I LOVE the retaining food cartoon! I tried to repost it but didn't manage it.
Tomorrow will be our 47th Anniversary. We have plans to go out for dinner at a great local restaurant.

Hi Gals,
Lisa – what a great tribute!
Margaret and Rita (((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))
At the garden today picked asparagus for dinner – ate it within 5 hours of picking – so so good! Did it with homemade fish tacos, they were great. The fish tacos and my local Mexican place are to die for, but I know they are calorie heavy – and one of the things that makes them great is this sauce they put on them, while I could not find out exactly what it was from the staff, I did find out it was mayo based. So I tried a Bolt House yogurt salad dressing and it was perfect, Avocado cilantro flavor --- If you have not found Bolthouse it is refrigerated creamy dressings and they run 30-45 calories for 2 tablespoons, and they are good!
Smiles.
