Happy Easter to all who celebrate! My youngest came home yesterday for a week, so I am really happy. He texted me from the train to ask me to have chicken soup ready as he just came down with a cold.

My computer is in the hands of the tech guy getting new Quick Books software. I am so excited. He said it could take 48 hours but called after I turned off my phone last night to tell me that I can pick it up this morning. So I used my phone to read posts this morning. Now I am off to walk the dogs

Did 1 hr of the 15 minute Boot Camp DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do some training games on the Wii.
I probably won't be logging today since we're going to have our Easter dinner today. I will try to make good choices -- but no guarantees. Back to business tomorrow.

Down in the Hill Country of Texas to look at pre-owned RVs, enjoying the misty weather--my desert-parched skin is drinking in every drop. Probably won't buy one, but fun to do anyway.
I usually only drink two 16-oz cups, but love gas station coffee, and just finished my second 24-oz coffee since 4:30 a.m. If you've never been to a Buc-ees, you've missed out. Hard to explain, easy to enjoy.
If it were sunny, the sun would be up now... sitting on the hotel patio, just enjoying myself on this mini, spur-of-the-moment vacation. Time to take some coffee up to the man.

Running errands with DH. Walked my feet off at the international car show yesterday, got the wants for a new car but won't be a possibility for another year, fun to get in and out of fancy new cars, though.

Good morning Ladies!
It was a relatively uneventful week for me and that is a definite win! Lots and lots of Easter goodies wound up In the office this week and my will power weakened some. A driver came in with cases of Polish food; cookies, chocolate candies, slab bacon, ham. Another came in with a case of the most awesome Granny Smith apples. I stashed some of the chocolates for stress emergencies, froze some slab bacon, and took home a couple of apples. Gained a bit during the week but it is all gone now, Whew! We also were given 5lb. tubs of seafood and tuna salad as well as coconut yogurt. I will dole out the seafood and tuna salad and share with friends.
Dipped strawberries in orange "chocolate" this morning to bring to my hosts tomorrow. They are supposed to look like carrots. I'll post a picture later and you can be the judge.
It will be 80° here tomorrow! I'm going to wear the dress that I have on in my profile picture, I am about 8 lbs. lighter now, so it fits better. I'm proud of what I've accomplished and enjoy wearing clothes that show it. It will also remind me to take it easy on the food and drink. My hostess is also successfully getting in shape and has been one of my biggest supporters. She has been doing just as well as I have and we cheer each other on.
I have concluded that giving up alcohol, especially wine, has had a significant impact on my success this year. In the past I lost an average of 3/4 lb./week and now about 1 1/4 lb./week. This in spite of the fact that I have much less weight to lose. Although I did fit alcohol into my calorie budget, it seemed to have slowed the overall weight loss process. I gave up wine for Lent and lost 10lbs. My plan now is to limit my alcohol to a couple of times per month rather than a couple of times per week. I have learned to substitute non alcoholic beverages in social situations and have done just fine. It is also less expensive. I'm going out tonight and originally thought I would have 1 drink but now have rethought it and will not, I would rather have wine tomorrow with my dear friends at Easter dinner. I thank Barbie for giving me the insight and strategies to deal with social situations.
So newbies, welcome! There is always something new to learn from these awesome ladies. Pay attention, ask questions, rant, rave, celebrate and most importantly, check in often. I am so appreciative to these women who have helped me along the way. Please don't try to be perfect all the time, especially in the beginning. Don't change your lifestyle all at once because I think you will be setting yourself up for failure. Incorporate new habits slowly, as they become second nature, add another, you are more likely to succeed. Allow yourself to fall off the wagon, then get right back on board with no guilt but knowledge of how to prevent it in the future. Don't let anyone tell you losing weight is impossible at this age! I am proof that it can be done successfully, I lost 25% of my original weight and finally at a normal BMI...I began at age 57 after being overweight since my late 30's.
The day is getting away from me so I have to go.

just got back from feeding dfil he was very chatty today...
Gorgeous weekend here, and picking up Taliah a couple hrs to go to my friends house for easter egg coloring and easter egg hunt, think she will have a ball.. will see Toms ex ,who is a dear friend of mine.. I call her #1 and she calls me #2 and it is her son in law that is fighting the bone cancer.. he will be there today and hoping to give him a gentle hug and tell them all I love them, as tomorrow is never promised...
Tom will putter around here today while we are gone and might have Tal over night tonight we shall see..
well ta ta for now will try and check in tonight.

My daughter's DFIL made it through heart surgery just fine and he's staying an extra day in the hospital to be sure there are no problems in his recovery. DD dropped her phone in the toilet yesterday and she's afraid it may be dead without possible recovery. Phones are not cheap & I'm sure she's got hers full of photos. She will work it out.
I'm off to take my coffee and sit with DH for a bit.

have an appointment with a lady today at 1pm pst. torpedo the curtains for the airstream and get ideas for the couch. probably will do a cover of some kind, will cost way too much to have it reupholsterd. that will take removing the couch etc.... rather spend the $$ on removing the dinette set permanently. when all is done, I like the French country feel of decor to retire in

Chris - thanks for the insights on alcohol! I have virtually given it up but hanging on to coffee for dear life. One would think if you factor in the calories it would be ok but likely it slows the metabolism. I keep thinking of grabbing a bottle of wine and just tracking the cals but now think ill pass - thanks (ps carrot strawberries are too cute)
My role model is my daughter (30) who lost 87 pounds using the fit bit and MFP. She logged her food (entire meal) "before" she cooked it let alone ate it and started by walking 1/2 mile and building up to 2 miles- That is ALL the excercise she did - no lifing, no Wii, nothing more (she had a slipped disk in her back in her 20's). While watching her calories, she ate cakes etc but she made sure she had the calorie offset. If she walked more she ate more ...and walked more so she could eat more. I have seen her put down a whole Black Angus steak dinner -cleaning the plate- (she used her iphone to log it first to make sure she had the calorie deficit) she keeps snacks/snack bars in her car - she does not go hungry:) She is a size 2 (5'2") and is now going to the gym and doing zumba (with that bad back!) - started on toning as she is getting married. Took her 2 years.
EASTER IDEA (from what "I" learned from my daughter)
***Log your meal "before" you eat/make it*** would you realy eat that big slice of dessert if you knew ahead of time what it really was? (but half a serving may work) -Accountability at its finest.
Making something traditional? Log all the ingredients (for a total count) and find out the food value for the portion you want to eat.

Chris in MA, fabulous post, you are such an inspiration. So many ladies on here started their weight loss journey in later years... how neat that we are learning it's OK to take care of "us" after decades of tending to the needs of employers, kids, spouses, friends, etc. I am so grateful for that support not only in the weight-loss realm but also looking at our well-being as we age.
And great job on those strawberry carrots!! Cute dishes by the way - and WTG on the goodies the driver dropped off.
Becca, what you said about looking at food now as compared to ten years ago - very wise and I thank you for that. Your info about how some guys at the "au naturelle" resort were looking for more than all-over tans made me want to deliver them a swift kick.
As for alcohol, I stopped drinking it about 6 months ago. I used to enjoy beer on the weekends, and I don't know if it was the alcohol or the lowered inhibition when it came to junk food that would "up" my weight. I do know the various times in my life that I was on WW and was serious about losing weight, it was much easier without alcohol. Now that I'm reading more about how sugar causes fatty liver I'm going to leave the stuff alone except for special occasions. I do like a Bloody Mary from time to time.
Welcome Baby Giraffe! A sure sign of spring. Amazing those long-legged little things are folded up so compactly inside mommy until they are born. Glad it was a successful birth! Looks like it's having a snack right now. April is a good mom!

Barbie - glad you are getting your computer back so quickly. Your computer guy sounds very good! And I'm wondering - do you wear a fit-bit or similar? You must break records in your step count as well with all those dog walks, line dancing, etc. Hopefully Jake is all cured!!
The sun is shining and DH is anxious to spread lawn fertilizer - there are a few rainclouds on the weather satellite view that have him worried but hopefully they'll keep sliding north up along the coast.
I need to "make dirt" this weekend - mix topsoil, a bit of potting soil and perlite together. That becomes the soil I'll transplant tomatoes into - gallon pots for the MG plant sale in May. Even tho it trashes my hands and nails, I love to feel the different soils coming together as I blend them with my hands - maybe it's like kneading bread dough but not so gummy, lol.
Allergy season is here - I discovered my poor swollen eyes responded to the allergy eyedrops plus warm compresses several times a day. Yesterday I thought I was getting a stye - today it's all better but I'll keep doing the compresses. Feels so good! My eyes are super dry and have been for years.
Those of you on Medicare supplemental "Medigap" type plans - we are on Regence in WA State and they now have a "Plan N" which is $50 cheaper than the "Plan F" - has a $20 doctor co-pay, doesn't pay the $183 medicare deductible and also has a small ER co-pay. I'm meeting with the insurance broker this week to find out more about it. Would love to save $100 a month - we don't go to the doc much so this sounds good.

Hi girls!
I'm back from Portsmouth. Trains just about held out though I arrived back at my home station about 18 minutes late. The taxi driver had waited.
Had three oysters as a starter, then a Portuguese fish stew with salmon, prawns, squid and clams. I didn't drink the broth and gave the garlic bread to my friend. Did have two mini wines with soda. Not too terrible.
We walked back to her place which is about 3 miles, so that's good (1 hour) and I had already done 400 calories on the machines this morning. I'm only going to have one sausage tonight with broccoli and mushy peas. I will have cold sausages for lunch tomorrow at cricket. I'm going with DH as his friend won't be there. I will leave the cricket early to put the organic chicken in the oven with roasted fennel, parsnips, onions and carrots. Then pick DH up later. All good.
I had a lovely chat with my friend and a great walk in the sun by the sea. Don't feel as tired as I thought I would.
At the station I bought a girly magazine to pass the time which had a free nail varnish, good brand and in a colour I will definitely use (a sort of mauvey grey) . I've been looking for a new colour, so that's great!
Chris - I love the carrots! I was a bit depressed this morning to see my weight is still up three pounds, but I am going to keep on keeping on. I had taken an anti hystamine to try to get to sleep and that seems to put water on me, so I hope to see an improvement tomorrow. I agree about the alcohol. I have many more "free" days now, but if I have one drink I want more. Still within calories, but I really notice the difference in the way I feel . I am happier when my self control is in control. Tonight I will have a low alcohol cider. If I share it with DH it is less than half a unit each.

All hunkered down and watching the snow fall. It has been snowing since Thursday night so I haven't been able to go to my parents for the Easter weekend. Parents called and they have about 3 feet of snow and are unable to get out of the yard, in fact even snow plows are in the ditch. Fortunately their power came back on at about 4 am, it was out for about 20 hours. April in Alberta you gotta love it.

Hi everyone,
We had a fabulous time in Mexico. Re-entry to the real world was hard this week! I made it to the gym for my 3 group classes, plus a yoga class but my food hasn't been up to par. Not horrible, but not going to see any losses. Goal for this week is to keep up with the workouts, adding 3 more cardio workouts in addition to the 3 classes and to log everything. If I can figure out how, I'll add a pic of us in Cabo. One of the highlights was horseback riding on the beach. Our daughter is the girl in the middle on the white horse. Her two best friends since kindergarten came with us.

this is little Nelly Marie born March 5th. She's got a hint of a smile there.
Meet Killian Dean. Grandchild #13. Five weeks younger than Nelly he almost outweighs her! He was born April 12th and weighed 9 lbs 13 oz.
My oldest grandchild turned 11 on the 4th. and went to a Scuba Intro class to check out if he was ready to hit the water with Grandma and Grandpa.
Life is busy. Took the past week between baby stuff to test down 150 feet of fence and the vine covering it. Wicked vine. I pulled one continuous root out of the ground that was 55 feet long! A real workout!

Ihscapil, Yes, we have deer, bobcat, raccoon, snakes, bear, etc. In Arkansas there are woods mostly everywhere, except in the SE where there are mostly rice farming.

afternoon ladies~
I am pooped.... Tal had a ball, she found the big egg that had a chocolate easter bunny in it and a whole bunch of candy, she had fun dying eggs, and made a new friend Jamie,,, they are the same age.. she passed out on the way home and didnt want to go out to dinner with grandpa and I, so I stayed home and made her mac and cheese..

Out of town all day Friday for a funeral. (Father of a friend.) Had Mexican food after funeral. I had a deep fried stuffed avocado. Stuffed with chicken and Monterrey Jack cheese. It was really good. Going a bit easier today.
Found an app for tracking digital time. Downloaded it to iPhone and iPad. We'll see how this works.
