What nobody tells you about losing weight

I'M SO TIRED OF EATING. Honestly I never thought I would say this, but eating piles of food every few hours (big bowls of fruit, egg muffins, homemade veggie "burrito" bowls, lean meats and tofu) is exhausting12

Yep.
One of the things that drove me back to MFP, and hopefully to long term success, was what happened after the one time I lost weight and gained it back. It was about 30 pounds. The clothes that I wore the last time I was at this weight did not fit as they did before the weight loss. I learned that I put on FAT when I regained the weight.
I had already been experiencing the change in body composition that comes with aging and staying the same overweight amount. My weight number was stable, but my shape sure had been changing. When I got back up to the same weight I was at before I started the competition I had parts that now literally jiggled. Parts that had not jiggled before.
Maybe this should be in an Ah ha! thread?
That's very interesting!
I finding that shaving as am losing fat weight takes less time than before. I guess because there is less ground to cover now that my face is slimmer.
I was JUST about to comment that shaving legs is much easier and quicker!
opposite for me behind my knees and armpits and stuff have hollow holes now that make shaving much harder and cutting myself much more likely XD8 -

Haven't ever had to shave behind my knees, but second the armpits ;D. Now there are big hollow holes too, that seem pretty challenging. Thank god i don't grow too much hair, but it was unexpected issue, lol.
Also, something i didn't see coming, that my mom is going to be so critical of my, what she calls, "problem areas ". She made comments that i find hurtful and offensive, and something out of my control, basically extra wrinkles and folds that she noticed on my face, arms, neck. So she felt the need to repeatedly inform me of those. Thankfully, i have people in my life, who are very supportive, but still.9 -
Lower testosterone levels, slower metabolism, constant hunger... good side.. visible veins over abs, the faces people make when you take ur shirt off, actually.. other than competitions i can't think of that many good things for being extremely ripped17

I've lost a small percentage (15-16%) of the total I want/have to lose, and I have a long journey ahead of me (100+).
Which is why it's unexpected to me that I would feel "results" so soon. I never expected to feel this much more energy so early on. Feel so happy with my scale goals when I have so many milestones to go. Feel so powerful when I make the right choices that take me a step closer to goal.
Wish I started sooner. But better late than never.41 -
Getting noticed more. Getting hit on more, made me think how shallow people are. When i was 15 kilos more, you didn't even see me. Now you suddenly care ? Im same person39

It's like, what difference does it make? There's a parking spot right here just take it. Why do we have to circle the lot for ten minutes because you're sure we can find one much closer. I just want to get out of the car *I whine in my whiniest voice ever.* Even if we park in the very last spot it's at most a 2 minute walk. We'll live.
I do the same thing! I get crazy irritated with people that hunt or wait for parking spots in the front! It's frustrating! I just automatically go to the back of the parking lot now. I enjoy the walk and the extra exercise.
I have noticed that my friends and family get irritated with me for parking in the back of the lot when they're with me. I just laugh at them and tell them it's good for 'em16 -

Don't let people sway you even if they are family and pretend to have all of the sudden your best interest at heart. Where was their interest before when you might have had no wrinkles but yet were carrying extra weight that was affecting your health in all sorts of way yet wrinkle free ? This has happened to me with family and I have had a hard time dealing with their so called good intentions. Now I have made up my mind and grown in deciding that, it is my life and body and I get to say and think what I think of myself and not others. Yes ! When I was obese I was wrinkle free because of my fat filling all my face areas, making it so smooth and even youthful; but now that I have lost fat weight and and I have vibrancy and I'm full of energy, my knees don't hurt anymore, sleep better, ect, and have few furrows on my face, they are going to criticize or warn me that I look older or to skinny and use that as and excuse to criticize my health progress and physical improvements? Oh no ! So I rather have lines on my face and be full of energy and vibrant than to be a walking lard with a smooth face like before.

I am at the beginning of weight loss process, but I can see something even now:
- I've learned that joy obtain from food is constant, equal whether I eat one plate or three. If I ate more, it just stretches the joy over bigger amount of food, it doesn't not increase it. Bigger the meal -> smaller joy per food

Love this thread. Have been writing down my calories here for 18 months now without fail. Being true to myself and honest! Every day I reflect on the positives, so far, like getting noticed, seeing "me" again in the mirror after 25years of obesity; Sitting in the plane and doing up the buckle and having about 12 ins left (before I could barely breath and pulled it under my gut); doing my routine, come home from gym, shower pack bag for tomorrow, prepare lunch for tomorrow, clean the shelves in the fridge each weekend. ...people not recognising me.. or thinking that my hb is with another woman! ha! I have lost 57 pounds (26kgs). I am strong.34

The fact that no matter how much I lose, I still have a lingering fear this weight loss isn't real. Maybe it will come back tomorrow... I know it's not true, but it's hard to change your mental reality about yourself as quickly physical changes occur.fitoverfortymom wrote: »SpoonInTheRoad wrote: »That when you go a week or two without losing weight you feel as fat as you ever were even though you know you've already lost 25 lbs. Totally this. If I don't drop at the rate I feel I should drop it's like someone slapped those 65lbs I've already lost back on.
Both of these comments are so real... Thanks for writing them out so I can see how illogical this thinking is! I think if I'm not exactly on track to hit my goal, that somehow I haven't made any progress. Not gonna hit 100 pounds lost in one year? welp guess I haven't lost 73 pounds after all.. Stop it, brain!!24 -

Same thing happened with my heels One thing I have noticed though is that when I don't drink enough, my skin becomes very dry, very quickly.10 -

I didn't know anyone ever shaved behind their knees. How did I not know about this?
I'm invoking old lady rights to not bother with shaving very often anyway.22 -

How weird bones are. My hip bones started appearing months back... started all normal and hip boney but lately when i lay certain ways their just...different? seem to poke more out of the side vs just the front and finding all these bones is freaky enough without them constantly changing XD Finding the bones in the centre of my butt freaked me out the most. I mean i love it but stop changing so much im trying to get use to this body but its just changing to much lol. Bones adding "curves" in places curves have no right to be11

That I'm less prone to falling over as my balance is better. It's bugged me for ages as to why it's the case but today I worked it out.
My centre of mass is now directly above my legs, instead of a few inches further forward.26 -

Oh, is that the secret?! I've found that it's a lot easier to catch myself if I stumble than it used to be, I'd always fall over before (especially in winter).10 -

I find this so true! My fanny and thighs have always been my "trouble" spot when it comes to weight, but now that I have lost weight I seem much less clumsy. I always felt uncoordinated or awkward, but that has lessened with the weight loss.
I didn't realize it until I read your post - THANKS! That made my day13 -

That things regarded as "childish" are such fun to do as an adult once you can do them again
Earlier today I took my children to the park and the only place to sit down was on a swing. Wasn't sure if I'd fit on it, as it's been a long time . . .
So I sat on the swing. And I fit, with room to spare. Then I started to swing, because, naturally, that is what you do on a swing. Then I was swinging higher than my children were. It was terrific fun. My children either thought that I was completely mad, or that I was a really cool mum. Or possibly both. And the swing survived53 -
No one ever told me - how much less I buy at the grocery.
A trip to the grocery used to include impulse items and stocking up on sale items that were regularly used in my house. That model is not working any more. Impulse items are rarely worth the calories from my budget and I just don't need to stock up. Last week the grocery had Helmans Mayo BOGO. DH told me not to purchase it because he just opened a new jar and he didn't want it to sit on a shelf for a year. Now I rarely use canned soup as part of a recipe but used to regularly incorporate "Cream of ____" soups. So I'll buy soup on sale but I don't "stock up." I am trying to use up the old stuff in my pantry and freezer and there is still a lot to go.
Part of this is still learning to go from feeding four to feeding two as the kids have moved out. We still buy protein in bulk and freeze it. I will cook a full recipe, because that means I am cooking dinner for at least two nights as we like leftovers. But the overall sheer volume of food is so much less.21
