How did you meet your SO?

On a dating site - my profile said "collar-poppers need not apply" and "top 40 makes me want to stab myself in the ear with a rusty spoon"
He sent me a message asking if I had heard of Skeletonwitch (which I hadn't) and that got us chatting - every day for a month. We went to meet up at the cliche coffee shop, when he got there he thought I was someone else and almost bailed, until I caught him at the door nearly in tears I was laughing so hard. He was relieved to say the least. The rest is history - 9 years of love this July!5 -

I had a really close friend who used to date my cousin back when I was like 15 when we all hung out together in a tight-knit group of friends. We'll give him a code name of Z...lol. He ended up moving away and eventually joining the Army a few years down the road. Well, apparently, Z had harbored some kind of romantic/nostalgic feelings for me all those years and ended up telling one of his best friends in the military all about me. They would talk about all the good memories we'd had and whatever else I'm sure guys talk about...lol. Well, his friend thought - since Z was stuck in a loveless marriage at the time, and he'd been waxing poetic about some hometown girl so much - that he should grow some balls and end things with the aforementioned now ex-wife and confess his feelings for me. Z hesitated, but ended up deciding to stop back by my mother's house when he came back home for a visit and figured he would confess said feelings. However, I was 19-20 by that time, so I obviously didn't live there anymore. I get a call from my mom that Z randomly stopped in after several years and to get in touch with him.
So, I did. And, he confessed. It was awkward, because he was more like a brother to me and I was also in a relationship at the time. Not a happy one, but I don't stray on anyone for any reason. So, I was polite and jovial about it so I didn't hurt his feelings too much, but you could tell he started to pull away a little from reigniting a friendship at that point. So, his friend from the military steps in on his behalf to give him a good word and tell me that Z was in love with me, and that I should give it a chance. Doesn't help, because I obviously don't have romantic feelings for him. But, me and Z's friend become friends over the whole ordeal -- we actually end up being a lot closer than Z and I ever were, even back in the day.
But, it's all long distance friendship over the internet, because they were stationed in Colorado and I was bouncing back and forth between AZ and CA at the time. (That aforementioned bad relationship had me moving back home to CA over the course of that time.) So, jumping forward a few years because this is already long enough...I am officially broken up with my ex for the last time for many reasons and am back in California permanently. Z's friend had also ended his relationship around the same time, because she kept cheating on him. We commiserated with one another for having survived horrible relationships, and it was becoming clear that we would have been much happier all along with people like one another, since we had so much in common and had the same values for relationships. However, we remained just friends. Then, my best friend and I were planning a trip to a brewery out in Colorado, and I mentioned maybe stopping by to see him. My best friend must have known all along that she wanted us together, because she quickly dropped out of the plans and said that I should still go without her. Definitely a wink-wink there, but I was still clueless at the time...lol. He found out and agreed that I should still go and could stay with him instead of having to pay for a hotel. So, I thought -- "Awesome! It's good to have friends! Maybe I will."
And, then a few weeks later - before I decided if I was going to go or not, we were talking on the phone, and he started telling me about this girl he really liked but that they were friends and he was afraid to tell her and ruin things between them because they were really close. I was happy for him because he deserved someone who finally made him happy, and I urged him to bite the bullet and just tell her! So, he did...and, that "friend" was actually me. And, up until that point, I had never given romantic feelings a thought, because we were pretty much best friends and thought I just really cared for him -- but, it was like a light switched on when he told me, and my heart stopped. I didn't just care for him, I loved him. And, it clicked. I decided to go see him under the pretenses of still going as friends and then we'd see if there was chemistry, but no pressure if there wasn't. I didn't want to lose his friendship either. Well, that was almost 10 years ago, and we're married with kids now. The chemistry was undeniable then and still is to this day!

TL;DR: He was a friend-of-a-friend who tried to get me together with said friend, but he is a terrible wingman, and we ended up together instead!

I had just moved to a town out west. Was 10 months post-divorce after an 18 year marriage and still in anti-man mode. Stopped for gas and went to pay and to ask directions. He was in line too.
Used his Irish accent when giving me the directions (the clerk was not very nice about it) and he had my
attention. We texted a few days and met up at the dog park (MUST love dogs) the next week.
Moved another 1200 miles together 6 months later. That was 4 years ago.
He is the love of my life and has seen me thru some of the darkest days I have known.10 -
He grabbed my butt while hanging out with friends at Oktoberfest. He was a friend of my then-boyfriend. We are now married and refer to that day as Grabaversary.
Seriously though, after my then boyfriend and I broke up, my SO invited me out to coffee. We ended up talking until the coffee shop closed, so we went to a 24 hour diner until like 3am. My 7am class was brutal the next day.7 -
I had just divorced after a 15 year marriage. I had never lived alone, but moved into this cute little cabin with my two daughters. My best friend said to me "my brothers best friend lives next door. If you get scared, call him. He will come right over. And if you need anything, he loves homecooked meals."
I needed some electrical wiring moved and I knew he worked in a similar field. I txt him and offered dinner for his assistance. 6 months later and we had worn a trail between our houses. The trail was later dubbed "LOVERS LANE."
That was 6 years ago. We will be married 4 years next month.13 -
After college, I got a job about 2 hours away from where I went to school and helped 2 of my classmates/friends get hired on as well. A mutual friend of the 3 of us had moved out toward the coast and in pre-FB times, we didn't see much of each other.
I was traveling for a living (anywhere from 2 weeks to 5 months at a time). I was in a relationship (not my wife) and I got a Dear John phone call when I was in SE Asia. I came back and we got together and the relationship had some good parts but was toxic. She dumped me right before New Years and a few days later, I grabbed an assignment in Puerto Rico to get away from my ex-gf.
After my assignment was about up, we (the 3 of us from college) found out that our friend from the coast was going to come back to the city we all went to school. We made arrangements to meet up at one of the bars we used to go to when we were in college on Thursday for $1 drink night.
I got back from PR on Tuesday and on Thursday we headed up a few hours away to the bar. It was a larger gathering as we had many friends/classmates that still lived in the area. A cleaning person from the school that we were all friends with brought this cute little brunette with her. At the time, I was pretty sour on the concept of love and sure as hell wasn't looking for a relationship, but the girl was cute so I started talking to her, just being friendly.
She was flirting with me, but being as dense as I am, I didn't pick up on anything. She went to the restroom and came back and gave me her phone number on the back of a business card. I wasn't expecting that and it really threw me off guard. By the time I got my bearings and decided to pursue this a bit more, two other guys had moved in on her. I made some comment about having competition and she got the two guys to leave somehow
We drank like the young 20 somethings we were and danced the night away on the dance floor. It was a night that I really didn't want to end. We spoke the next day and we got back together on Saturday (maybe Friday night). About a week later, I drew a 2 week assignment in the Orlando area, so I flew her out for the weekend and we had a great time again.
We were in a great relationship. However, every time I left town for awhile, I was expecting to get that phone call while I was overseas saying that she was moving on or one trip, I would come home and she'd say she found someone else. However, that phone call never came and she remained faithful and loyal to me. Time after time, when I came home, she was there to greet me.
About 3 years after we met, we got married in one of the most beautiful churches I had seen. We started our new life together and built a wonderful life and a wonderful family. Every day, I give thanks that I met her and I have her in my life. We've been married 15 years now.8 -

We met in 6th grade. When I was 11 I told all my friends I was going to marry him. When he was 12 he told his parents the same (it took a year to him on board lol). We broke up when we were 17 and I quickly married my rebound...so dumb! 18 years later I had divorced Satan and I received an email from my now hubby. We had not been in touch but he tracked me down online to tell me he was done living without me. Weve been married 5 years next month and have 6 amazing kids between us; 5 boys and 1 girl. I cant imagine a more perfect for me husband.11

We're going to officially meet in three months.
We first started talking via an app, I had recently broken up with an abusive boyfriend and just needed someone to vent to.
He was great support.
We didn't intend for our conversations to end up romantic, but it did.
He's coming to visit in three months, and I'm feeling more insecure than ever.
Weight loss has always been something I've struggled with, but now I can't get it out of my mind.
I don't need to reach my goal in three months, just want to at least make some progress.

I'm not keen on the term either, I was just quoting what was said before.
I was referring to girls/guys who are friends with someone and want more, the other person knows this and doesn't want more but continues to flirt with that friend (false promise) simply because they like the attention. I see this a lot, especially on here.
I gotcha.. wasn't trying to be jerky about it, if it came off that way. Just wanted to address it in my own way. :-)0 -

i had just broken up with my boyfriend at the time and my friend mentioned that she had a guy "craig" in mind that she wanted to set me up with. so naturally, I went on to her facebook and looked up "craig" - not knowing his last name. there were like 5 different craigs but one of them had a profile pic of him playing hockey so in my mind i mentally decided that was the craig i was going to get set up with. turns out i "picked" the wrong craig - he was not the craig my friend wanted to set me up with - but I still thought the hockey player was cute so I messaged him and told him the funny story. he said, well i think we owe it to ourselves to grab a drink so I went out with him. we've been together ever since and are getting married next sepetember!9

I love reading all these stories!
I had been single for atleast 8 months. I was done with dating, perfectly content with being alone for the rest of my life. I basically had stopped going out, and only hung out with my tried and true friends. Wasn't interested in anything new boy wise, the last bf had done me very wrong, and I was over it all.
I recently had met a new girl on a hunting trip who had become a friend. We were just alike, so we became better friends over time. She called me one night telling me that her best guy friend was recently single, and "needed a good girl like me". LOL, no thanks. Not interested. However, I invited her to a hunting expo the following weekend. She seemed super excited and was like "well im going to bring him anyway and itll be a double date!" Yeah sure, whatever, i just wanted her to go to the expo with me.
Granted, i did facebook stalk him to see if he was anything special. He was intriguing, I will admit, but I was very happily single.
Later in the week she mentioned that this guy wanted to go ice skating. Im like..... no. Nope, not interested, I want to go to the hunting expo. Well, turns out her communication skills are either terrible, or she is pretty sly.
She has me convinced we are all going to the hunting expo. Day of, I ask for a time that she wanted to meet up to head 3 hours away to the expo. "6pm"..... What..... the expo is closed by then? "No silly, we are going ice skating, remember?!"
Okay so now I have no one available to make the 3 hr drive with me and am bummed. I felt tricked.
I spent most my day planning on ditching these ice skating match making plans. Wasnt interested.
20mins before 6, I randomly get dressed and head her way. No idea what prompted me to do that. She told me to meet her and all their friends at the bar. I felt way more comfortable knowing there was atleast 10+ people going on this ice skating adventure instead of it being an awkward date.
So i get to the bar we are all meeting at, and run STRAIGHT into the guy she is trying to hook me up with, and since I am socially awkward and nervous, I try to make a joke. Instead it comes out a total insult and he walks away.. Okay whatever whoops. Turns out all the friends knew this was a night met to hook me up with this guy. I am a little weirded out by that, and just get in a "whatever" mood.
Later that night, I just cant help but be drawn to this guy. We ice skated, we laughed, and by the end of the night we kissed.
A year and a few months later? We still havent spent more than 3 days apart from each other, and are now living together very happily.
Funny how things work out6 -
These stories are so beautiful ❤1

College. Met her in a Bio class and didn't really hit it off well, and I kinda said something not nice to her. She plopped right down next to me and said, "Whatever. I'm going to be your lab partner." and as she laughed and was getting up to move the instructor said everyone freeze and where you are sitting is your seat assignment for the semester. I was plenty PISSED. She ended up being cool enough. Not sure if it was love over the dissected frog, fetus pig, or cat, but somewhere among the juice inner parts something sparked. And not just a Bunson burner for caloric burn tests.10

We met at a party that I was NOT supposed to be at. My girlfriend's parents were going out of town for the weekend and they could not trust their daughter to leave her home alone so they called my folks to see if "wonderful responsible Carmen" would spend the weekend to keep Jan in check. Well, Jan talked Carmen into just going to the party for a little bit. We drove across town, to the absolutely scariest part of town, to this house party that was akin to an Animal House party......then she left with some dude. Here I am with no car, no idea really where I was or what the hell I was going to do. I was 17. So I sat and was crying. The boy I married eventually came up and asked me what was wrong. I explained the whole thing to him. He could have been a damn murderer for all I knew but it did not matter, he offered to drive me home. I went. He asked for my number when he walked me up to the door. I was 17 he was 19. We were engaged to be married about 7 months later and married 3 years after that night. We are still married....I am 52 now.8
