Toni ~ Glad you got your medication. Whenever I try not taking mine, I end up crying after several days and must go right back on. With all you having to go through, you need it.

Mia ~ Hope you feel better soon.

Last night, instead of eating everything I had written down, I ate only half and then finished with crackers which I seem to eat anyway every night. Love crunchy salty things. Anyhow, I seemed to be down a bit this morning and I chalk it up to trying to eat two low carb meals a day and allowing my crackers. Will see!

Thanks for the compliments on my grand children. The little girl's face cracked me up. She won one event in the swim meet and came in second a couple of times.

Machka and Heather – That is one reason that I am glad that I have Cortana on my taskbar, helps me translate words used in other countries. In most parts of the USA, cushions would be the sofa; pillows can be those you sleep on; or ones you use as decorations on beds or sofas. Cushions go on ‘outside’ furniture; which you can also use on that piece of furniture and if you want to you can 'add' pillows. Pillows that are used as decorations usually are (mostly square) between 12x12" up to 24x24”. There are ‘rolled’, ‘round’, and ‘triangle', or 'rectangle' pillows that are decorative pillows. Even from area to area, things are called something different. When my DDnL#2 said ‘icebox’ – I thought maybe she was talking about a ‘cooler’; but, ‘no, she was talking about her refrigerator'. They were called ‘ice boxes’ earlier because you put a block of ice in the top of them to keep food cool and also you could chip it up for drinks. There was a tin box in the top to keep it from melting. In the town I grew up in, we got our ice from the 'ice house'. As a child, that was a treat to get to go to the 'ice house'. They'd chunk I off in sizes, using the same method as a 'stone mason' would use, several holes in it; and a hammer to break it off. A refrigerator is made by different companies; but, the first company to make one was named Refrigerator, so that is how they got their name of being a refrigerator. Early on, they had very small freezer parts – usually in the top; and held about 4 trays you put in them, usually 2 on top of one another to make ice cubes. In the 50's you'd pull up the handle and that would pop the ice cubes out. They started getting larger and larger as years went on because they could make one side colder than the other; top-on-top, then top-on-bottom, or side-by-side, and now even doors that open from the outside to get things you use most often such as mile and/or butter that is stored on the shelf inside the door.

Even the spelling of words are different – such a ‘color’ and ‘colour’; both correct spellings. There are words that sound alike; but, mean something altogether different and how you use them in a sentence changes the sentence. Such as ‘to’, ‘too’, and ‘two’. The first is where you are going, the second one means ‘also’, and the last is a ‘number’. My computer had ‘spell-check’ on it; but, I still need to ‘attempt’ to ‘proof-read'; because it might change the word spelling, then what gets written isn’t what I am trying to convey. Usually, reading something in English – whether it is American English, or English from another country that speaks English I can generally figure out what they/you mean. Affect and Effect – sound ‘close’; but, again, mean something different. Such as what you do might ‘affect’ how you view something. Effect is something that ‘changes’ something. Such as ‘if you leave the ice out it, it will ‘melt’, that means that the effect of ice being left out is what changes it to ‘water’. But, my Mother was a HS English/Lit/Grammar teacher and ‘if’ I used the wrong word, she corrected me wherever we were and ‘explained’ why it was wrong and gave me the example of ‘why what I said was incorrect’. Sometimes it used to embarrass me; but, I do it to my grandchildren, then I think ‘oh Lordy, I AM becoming my Mother'! In some words there are letters that don’t have a sound when pronouncing them; but, are needed to spell the words correctly. Such as “salmon”; it is ‘pronounced ‘sam-mon’ (sa-mon); but, spelled with the ‘silent’ “L”. That is why I asked if you ‘meant’ pillows when you wrote ‘cushions’. Just because they (for me) mean something different. We say ‘box springs’ for that 2 pieces of a bed; and ‘bedding’ for the covers on the top of the mattress. Top one is the ‘mattress. So when we go buy a mattress, the box springs come as a ‘set’ usually, although it is possible to buy one or the other. Our bed frame sits up 14” (from the floor to the 2x4s that keeps the box springs and mattress off the floor; to the top of the box springs it is a little over 22” from the top of the box spring to the floor). Normal sizes are usually 14-16-18” long; so Louis had to put fence post newels on each leg; because the bedding skirt was 22” long; both the box springs and the mattress are 18” deep; so our bed sits up off the floor nearly 40”. We both have to use a step-stool to climb up in it. We’ll end up buying a ‘low-rise’ box spring when we are no longer able to get up on the bed; that will lower the bed by 14”. At the moment … it is pretty close to 4’ from the floor to the top of the mattress. I have a step-stool; Louis uses the rung on the stool of my make-up dresser (it has drawers) and that is why it is a ‘dresser’ and not a ‘table’. Our chest-of-drawers is actually a chest-on-chest (not that they can be taken apart; the top is just a little more narrow then the bottom 4 drawers.
That’s your lesson on things being called different things from the USA and other countries that speak English (or mostly). Then as for taking the cushions off a sofa; they have to have a zipper in them, then some people call them ‘slip-covers’ because you can ‘slip them off’ and wash them; but, generally I have a carpet place come out and clean them, as I certainly would not want to have them ‘shrink’ on me. Slip-covers can cover the entire sofa or chair to change the color or material they are made of. In some cases make them cooler in summer. So a lot of the time … I have to read what you write and most of the time I can sort of figure out what you are talking about. LOL!!! Acronym sometimes throw me. IMHO (In My Humble Opinion). Or I find that I have apparently 'missed' reading a post; because it appears that MFP now only takes you to the top of the page.

Beth – Caps (here in America) is ‘normally’ considered ‘yelling’ or ‘screaming’ or even used to ‘emphasize something’ or a ‘word’ Pip used WIND! And an “!” [Exclamation point], because she wanted all y’all to ‘feel’ how strong it was. There are winds that come from your back, tail winds, which makes biking easier, head winds in your face which slows you down and makes it harder, and ‘cross winds’ (from the side) that make riding a bike really difficult because besides peddling, you are also required to fight the wind to stay upright. When used with words like DO NOT or DON’T … it is considered ‘listen’ to what I am saying (or not). My DDnL#1’s mother ALWAYS uses CAPS in her emails and on FB. I think she does it because he screams when she is talking (or she doesn’t like changing from one to another. She possibly ‘hen-pecks’ the keys rather than knowing how to type from taking typing lessons. I can type/post something here without ever looking at my keyboard. Some people can’t … so we say, they are ‘hen-pecking’, either using their ‘thumbs’ or ‘pointer’ fingers. I can type looking at something on my desk beside my keyboard, never looking at my hands or the screen or piece of paper (on an old typewriter). I can usually tell if my ‘pointer’ fingers are ‘not’ on the ‘home keys’ which are “F” and “J” (which both have a raised point on them). Certain finger type certain keys. I’m not as good at using an adding machine or calculator; not nearly as good as my BF, who is an accountant, and uses it daily and it is important for her to keep her place on something in front of or to the side of chair and desk. She also 'knows' when she had hit the wrong key. Some calculators start with 1 and go down to 9; others start a 7 and go down to zero. It takes practice to calculate on one that the numbers are in the opposite location.

Katla – A gallbladder attack is the worst pain you will EVER feel, even worse than labor because it generally hits you quickly and unexpectantly. Not that labor (labour) is not painful … you have been told by a family member or friend what to expect. Normally, nobody tells you about the pain with gallstone/gallbladder. I passed out on the restroom floor at the Civic Center and missed our DYS’s HS graduation. A woman came in and asked me if I was ok; and could she go get someone. I told her my Mother was sitting at the top of the stairs in a wheelchair and she could point out where Louis was seated. Louis took me to the ER and I was admitted for surgery; he had his out 2 weeks later. Kidney stones is about how bad as it feels when a woman goes into labor (for a man). They are very protective of their “Johnston’s.” You can see them cringe when you talk about labor; and, if they see some man getting kicked in the groin, it will double them over. When Louis has passed kidney stones he cries out in pain, or moans and groans. I won’t let him get to that point. I will call his Urologist and whoever is ‘on call’ will meet us at the office - day or night. He said that he does not need to be seen by an ER MD because they won’t call in a Urologist when they have someone there with pain. He says that he definitely does not want another type of MD trying to put in a catheter, they could do more damage than good.

I try to read over what I post, a lot of times I will just ‘delete’ it; typing, for me, is very relaxing, but, not everything needs to be posted. LOL!!!! My biggest issue is that I can write some of the longest 'run-on' sentences by using the word 'and'. My Mother would NOT be pleased with me. RITFLMAO!

One thing that will ‘always’ make your post disappear (unless you save it by posting it) is to ‘go back a page’. EVERY TIME! I think if you are on a page and there is a spot to post to, I think it will actually post at the end of all the posts. Everybody is posting at the same time; and, recently I have found that it doesn’t always take me back to my last post; so I generally go back a page before posting and I am like some others; I have a word processing program and MFP open and side-by-side. That way I rare ‘lose’ it. I BOLD the names of people I am responding to, so that ‘if’ others don’t want to read my post they can skim right over it.

fvsp1213 - Tell us a little about yourself, name you prefer to be called, a location (general or specific), marital status, kids, grandchildren, hobbies, goals, anything so we can get to know you better. Sometimes there are people here who sign their post with their name and location so they are not mixed up with someone with the same name.

Louise - You are doing so well! Changing habits is hard, but you can do it. You seem very determined. <3

Toni - I think about you often. Glad you got the meds you need. You have a lot on your plate. <3

Changed the defunct bulb in the main oven for a new one. Go me! I do like a light in my oven. Before I changed it last time it had been defunct for five years! The last one has only lasted seven months, but I got round to it a bit quicker.

I've also rung a couple of local garden people. They are both coming to give a quote on Sunday two hours apart. I could tell on the phone that one was not very organised! ! I've also left a message with a bigger company. I will get DH to ring our painter friend. It would be good to book him for a time when we are on holiday as the hall/stairs/landing is a bit intrusive.

Felicia - why were you cursing your former dentist? I had a root canal, and to this day I don't think I needed it. Shortly afterwards the dentist went to school to be a root canal specialist and I really believe he was practicing on me.

I was cursing him because it was his shoddy work which resulted in the failed root canal and abscess. We used to live in a small town with only one dentist. I should have gone somewhere else (a lot of people did), but I wanted to support local businesses. Now I'm in this fix. Not too happy with him.

DD called me today and told me that the past two days, Joaquin has been soothing himself to sleep by stroking/petting his hair. LOL! What a funny little guy! I need to see video of this!

Awe how cute is that! When I was a baby I rocked myself to sleep. Crazy huh!? Well. I still do it to some extent. The rocking is so slight but its still hypnotic to me. On the good side when my husband and I go to bed at the same time, he rocks me! Awe right? I will be cuddling and he's rocking and I'm like, wait too fast! Actually the moment I stop he stops so that's good! Plus because I'm like a Hot momma, (thank you pre mentalpausal), I can only cuddle for a bit then its like go away!

Lenora ~ Where did you learn so much about the history of refrigerators. I also remember the ice house. My great grandmother had one of the frigs that you put the block of ice in. When I was growing up, we had a refrigerator that got frosted over in the freezer section. I would scrape the ice off and eat it. Wonder if I had a nutrition problem.
