I don't support the fat acceptance/plus size movement.

The body positivity movement isn't about promoting being heavy, it's about teaching women to love themselves, and rejecting impossible body standards. You hear about super models eating 500 calories a day because a size 2 is too big, and that's not healthy either. My favorite body positive writer, Lindy West, always writes that it's just about loving yourself enough to treat your body with dignity and respect. Maybe you want to lose weight (I know I do), but hating yourself the whole time you're on the journey for not being thin enough is no way to live.
I hate being overweight, and I have every health problem that comes with it. But I don't think it's a bad thing to encourage people to love themselves through ever step of the journey.
Oh and for the record, I don't think you sound like a shallow bully at all. Your view comes from a good place--that is that obesity is not a good or healthy lifestyle. I just think the movement is about accepting that we all come in different shapes and sizes, and overweight people are still worthy of love.
Mainly that last line and the idea that we're still 100% fully a person no matter our weight. I think it's much easier to have the mindset for losing weight if your self worth is not tied to the scale. That said I'm looking forward to living more comfortably by losing weight. But if I gain weight one week or binge on cookies I'm not going to decide I'm a worthless failure. I'm just going to do better tomorrow.4 -

You don't hear anyone talking about fake breasts and how they are 100% choice and could "totally cause health problems" and make them a "taxpayer problem". Because big breasts are popular and accepted, but "fat" isn't.
I wish these people would just admit they're shallow and biased because society told them it's ok, rather than watch them do Olympic Level, armchair-lawyering to try to justify their prejudice.
How do you logically get from "I don't want to pay for this" to "want to mistreat"?
Much irony in this post.
Irony doesn't mean what you think it means, evidently.
It's obvious to anyone with a brain that this was a random example. Thousands of others are available. I don't want to pay for ther healthcare and Welfare of people who refuse to use birth control because of Jesus (or whatever) and have 10 babies, but I'm not out trying to shame them and tell them they don't have a right to live how they see fit. And they have "movements as well.
Countless examples of people doing potentially harmful, unhealthy stuff and no one cares...but being "fat" is *apparently* different? No.
A tad judgy, for such a non-judgmental post.
I appreciate the ad hominem.
Thousands...countless...examples abound of such hypocrisy. Whose victimization is greater?
We're going to need a Department of Victim prioritization soon.
Don't be a victim. Don't be a hypocrite.

I was very overweight as a young girl. It was extremely hard to find any clothes that fit, much less anything fashionable.
Now when I go shopping I notice there are so so many options for plus sized teens and adults.
I have wondered whether or not this is a good thing. As a teen I would have loved this! But as an adult I recognize that this makes being very large quite a bit "easier" on a person.
I don't have a set opinion on this topic. Just an observation. Part of my motivation in losing weight all those years ago was just wanting to be able to buy clothes in the "normal" section.2 -

WTF are you talking about? What would I be a victim of? Your argument is basically that anyone who stands up to any sort of bullying and harassment is....choosing to be a victim? That makes sense to you?
So if people fight back against harassment through a peaceful movement....thats a problem for you?
Would you prefer they stay silent? No, I guess by your standards that would be choosing victimhood, too.
Maybe you prefer they punch anyone who bullies them in the face? Stab them? Is that aggressive enough to not be choosing to be a victim? But that's illegal so....moving on.
What's left....hmmmm. I got it! Every time a person harasses or bullies someone for weight, clothes, gender, looks (etc) that person should just change to please the bully!! Like "if they'd lose weight, I wouldn't have to mock them"
Yes! Because that would be the total opposite of choosing victimhood! Except that's clinically the argument of an abusive person who needs mental help.
It's amusing that you post these things without being embarrassed for yourself.7 -
The "fat acceptance" movement started to get clothing brands motivated to make halfway decent and stylish clothing for younger women who wear plus size clothing. For years, women who are above size 20 jeans have been forced to wear ugly clothes and once this movement began, younger and more stylish brands and designers appeared (e.g. Torrid) and began giving women a chance to dress and feel good about themselves no matter their size. Beyond that, it's transformed into a body acceptance (notice, not referred to as "fat acceptance") to empower women who are larger in size and remind them they are still beautiful, too. Just something for you to consider before you bash all over a movement that gave me the confidence and strength to regain my health and lose the weight I needed to. Just because you don't agree/relate to it makes it wrong. #educateyourself6

Or you could just mind your own business, since many people don't give a flying *kitten* who does and doesn't support any 'movement', including yourself.4
