In fact, my home modem is broken so for the past few days I've been cueing up several pages in different browser tabs while out in other people's WIFI so that I don't run out of material when I get home
I empathize with all the people who have commented about how much of this weight loss thing is mental and emotional, though funnily, my brain seems to be the opposite of most. I started reading this thread from the very beginning a few weeks ago and I think I was up to about page 75 before I saw a comment that resembled my situation. While so many have shared how long it has taken for their minds to catch up with their bodies and, for example, not knowing what to do when someone randomly hit on them, etc., I—who have been doing this only a month and have purposely eased into it so have only lost a couple of inches from my waist and nothing anywhere else—found myself making eye contact with a couple of guys while walking down the street last week, and when their expressions didn't register much interest, I remember thinking, 'No no, you're mistaken, I look great!'
Any other future megalomaniacs out there, who are just waiting for their bodies to catch up with their minds, and who have possibly been doing the world a favour by suppressing their giant egos under layers of fat all these years?
I totally started out this way, too! Lost 10 pounds and felt like a rockstar... and wondered why no one else seemed to notice. haha.... And now that I've lost almost 50, I understand what everyone has been saying. I have a healthy BMI for the first time in my adult life, I've gone from a size 16 to an 8ish, I look cute in my clothes.... and yet, all I see is this flabby mommy tummy that just. won't. go. away. Our brains are strange things.
Time for the mommy package.. Thats what I'm gonna do..
Naw... not for me. It's just a belly. It ain't holding me back. ;-)29 -
A lot of people will assume you care about every one of the latest diet crazes and so will tell you about some random detox or diet that sounds impossible to follow permanently but that is apparently completely life changing (or so they've heard). I have seizures (or I used to before I got on medication) so I have had to be careful and talk with my doctor, because if I don't eat enough I have noticed that my threshold gets low. It gets borderline offensive on occasion when people I know say that they read about a new diet that can cure me, especially when I am on medication that works, and knowing that they see me as defective is hurtful. I'm not going to trust a non-doctor with my health or someone who possibly cured their child's autism/cancer/whatever with a diet of avocado and string beans. Or a supposed doctor on television or a doctor who wrote a book.

I agree! Here's another resource for finding a properly fitting bra! I have been to Victoria's Secret to get measured, but it turns out I need a size that they don't sell! At least not in stores. They were 3 cup sizes and one band size off! This calculator uses 5 measurements instead of 2. I have much better support now!

Thanks for this site! I'm going to get my hubby to help me measure, and see if I can find a better-fitting bra cheaply somewhere. (I'm not done losing yet and really don't have money to spare for clothing, but I only have one bra now that sort-of fits and isn't too uncomfortable so I need to do something!)
A question for any of you ladies who've suffered the "deflated boob" issue that I have (they haven't so much "shrunk" as taken on the appearance of a balloon with half the air let out of it...) - what style of bra have you found is best to help hold up the sagging funbags that used to be your breasts? Seriously, they droop SO much more than they used to when they were big! At least my shoulders and back don't hurt quite so much from carrying all that weight, but I'm still uncomfortable and have the added bonus of feeling old and ugly now too.
P.S. @brookielaw Thanks for sharing your experience - it never occurred to me that an ill-fitting bra could cause that kind of problem!
I'd suggest you go to a bra specialty store to be measured and fit by people who know what they're doing. The first time I got a properly fitting bra it was like a religious experience! Angels were singing.13 -
kenyonhaff wrote: »kingleahnidas wrote: »You will get dizzy and light-headed after standing up too fast. Not as much of you to carry!
Uh if that is happening a lot that is not a sign of health. I would be concerned.
Postural hypotension. Rapid drop in blood pressure. As long as you're not fainting, it's annoying but not really a big health problem. I wear compression socks and increased my salt, that seems to help.
Yup. I had it my whole life since childhood. Parents kept taking me to the doc and he was like "she's just thin". It went away when I gained a bunch of weight a few years ago and now I already have it back full blown after losing 22lbs. And I'm not even thin yet! I'm still 13 pounds higher than my normal weight.
And it IS really annoying. And embarrassing, too.6 -

I'll second this!! And furthermore, you can try all the styles on, find the one that works with your body and issues, and either support the local fitter or find it online. At least you'll KNOW what size to order. I've not found huge savings online and I prefer to support (pun intended) my local small businesses whenever possible. Oh, and since I've been wearing the correct size bra I've not popped an underwire yet. Who knew?!!13 -

I hear you. Have same issue. Too many people try to tell you "should control seizures with 'natural' remedies' ".2 -
I'm sure this has been said more than once but nobody told me how vain you get when you lose the weight! I used to hide from the camera. I hated having my photo taken. Now I'm popping off selfies everywhere! I must be making up for all the photo opps I missed because I didn't want to know!22

That my butt would lose some shape. ☹ I'm down 60 some lbs, with 40 lbs to go and noticed today that my butt isn't as shapely as it used to be. Currently searching Pinterest for butt building workouts. Haha17

Lunges Lunges Lunges
I had no butt when I was overweight and even less now. But what I do have is much perkier (and therefore looks much more shapely) because I have strengthened those muscles back there. That and certain yoga poses can help. But try to do private classes (don't do them at home) because you may be doing the poses wrong and seriously do some long term damage. Private courses give you great one on one attention.

This. Fun story. I dropped from a 20 to a 16 in April. Yesterday I neededto buy work pants and I grabbed the 16s because that's what fit last time and 14s as a "lol no but why not try". Little did I realize, I've been making progress since April and now fit in 12s. I was floored. I could not believe it.43 -

I had no but before and nothing after. Lunges are good, squats are good, but what helped me the most has been weighted hip thrusters!12 -

I didn't know my weight. First because I wouldn't go near a scale and then because the scale didn't go high enough. I still guess at my starting weight. By the time I got a scale that went high enough, I was ~320 and had lost weight already.12 -

I never thought about this one but it's true. I'd be completely fine wearing it on a t-shirt at this point!13 -
After losing 30 pounds, I can stand up and down easily in the pew in church without grabbing onto the one in front of me for support - that was a fun surprise on Sunday
-I can bend over to tie my shoes and breathe at the same time
-I can put a bathing suit on and I feel ok
-My energy has increased tremendously
-I'm swimming every night! THAT's a BIG ONE!!!
-I'm not depressed anymore
-I feel strong and flexible (I'm 65 so that's a big deal for me!)
-I can walk up stairs without pulling myself up by the rail
-Knowing I'm not to my goal yet and that I have another 30-40 to go (not sure how much I want to lose), but I don't care because this is a new lifestyle for me and the challenge will never end and guess what. . . I'm up for the challenge.
-I feel better mentally, physically and emotionally than I have in 15 years.
-Here's to all of us who are working on being physically, mentally and emotionally stronger and better every day - CHEERS everyone!56 -

Being average. People have no opinion about your appearance beyond clothes/shoes/hair. Being able to blend in and not be the largest person on the boat.27

After a month of healthy eating mine swung from 28-29 days, to 35!!! My husband and I both freaked out a little although I figured it was the changes to my diet. The next month it was back to 28.4 -
Once you get down to a low enough weight, just a couple of big salty carby meals will make you look different in the mirror.24

1. Bras. Before i started losing weight i had an extender. Now I have no more hooks left to tighten them. I will have to buy new bras.
2. My collarbone. I have one! Who knew! Haven't found out if i have hip bones yet!
3. That the junk food i used to eat - like processed cheese singles- i cant eat any more. They taste awful.
4. I am so happy watching the scales go down i dont want to waste calories on junk food.
5. That when you do the right thing and lose in a healthy way with mfp it really is easy.
6. That i thought i wasnt fat before. But i was. I honestly saw myself smaller the whole time.
And this is after losing "only" 16 of the 40 kilos i have to lose.!
Over 35 lbs - that's a whole lotta "only"! Wonderful!3
