With both the Ironman 70.3 World Championships coming up in early September, and an outside shot at qualifying for the IM 140.6 World Championships (Kona) at my late August race, I'm looking to ramp volume up further this month, and get in some solid running blocks.
Goals are: 200 miles running (170.5 June), 800 miles biking (896 June), 20 miles swimming (15 June). Just going to track the running here.
After taking a rest/recovery day yesterday, I got in a painful post-bachelor party 10 miles early this morning with a friend, then did more recovery miles late this evening while doing laundry, as I'm heading back to Florida tomorrow and I'd rather avoid running too much in the heat.
7/2 - 15 miles (10 AM, 5 PM)
Total: 15 miles
Goal: 200 miles
Remaining: 185 miles

1/29 - Chilly Willy Duathlon (1:07:48 - 20:05 1st 5K/21:16 2nd 5K - 1st AG, 3rd Amateur)
2/5 - Best Damn Race 1:50 pacer
5/5 - Pittsburgh Marathon (withdrew at mile 16 - 1:32 split @ 13.1)
6/4 - Ironman 70.3 Raleigh - 4:43/1:36 run - Qualified for Ironman 70.3 World Championships
8/25 - Ironman Coeur D'Alene

So somewhat off topic but my last few BP readings have run roughly 80/60. Does anyone else find their BP runs low running high volume/distance?
I have low bp normally that gets ever lower running even not-so-high volume. My doc tells me to check my pulse and if it's not high and I don't have any symptoms (ignoring dizzy when sitting/standing - postural hypotension), not to worry. She says to drink more water and get extra sodium, which does seem to help within a day. If I have other symptoms or a high pulse, then a visit to the doc is in order.3 -

I'm not really built for speed, but I keep going, slowly shaving a few seconds off my time here and there. I do get discouraged occasionally though, because I am slow. Then I remind myself to run my own race and stop comparing myself to others. You're running for you. No one else. Just you. Enjoy every step!

5.1 fast finish 6. Supposed to run last 12 minutes in zone 3 but I think it was more like zone 5. Was supposed to run 35 minutes in zone 2 but I think it was 3. I'll have a better idea when my heart monitor comes in next week. I'm thinking of a slight increase on the volume of training in the plan.i did my strength training after my run which gives me two days in a row with that. Don't know if the plan had enough miles on it to reach my 150 for this month. I reach the 2017 km mark for the year. I also figured out where to do my hill repeats for Thursday's run. Tomorrow was going to be a cross day on the elliptical but that will have to change as the gym is closed to celebrate America's birthday. I'll just switch Tuesday and Wednesday.3

Today was supposed to be a rest day but reorganised my week to do one of my planned 12.7k runs today. Reason being it would mean I have run marathon distance over 3 days and give me confidence I could do it in one day come October. At least now I have an upper limit on my target time - 48.5hours
For part 3/3 I stuck with my mostly flat trails since the October marathon route I'm considering is also pretty flat, (but mostly on paved surfaces). As I've also been eating at a significant deficit the past week and this was my third consecutive significant running day, I suspected it might be hard work. I intended to go around 6:00/km (9:36/mile) which is around target MP for me and started out fine. When I turned around into the headwind I soon realised just how much the last couple of days had taken out of me, and my pace just got slower and slower to the finish. I ended up averaging 6:08/km so wasn't too far out, and was on trail rather than road so I should be pleased.
Anyway it's safe to say I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's rest and refeed
1-July: 11.51km - easy 6.5k; HM pace last 5k
2-July: 19.26km - easy(-ish)
3-July: 12.84km - MP-easy

Without the HRM I find it impossible to guess any zone other than "way too hard/wast" and "umm, I think I am actually walking"4 -

So yesterday. Instead of going on a nice easy run to test my foot... I was in the ER. *sigh* This joker:
decided that getting a earbud tip stuck in his ear would be a good plan. Somehow he got it in deep enough that I could not see it. The nurse thought it very funny.
July is NOT starting off very "runderful"
But tomorrow I have off, so I am thinking that I will do a super easy pace run today just so my joints do not get stiff and then tomorrow attempt the 20 mile run with my Clif Blok test that was planned for 7/1.3 -

@RunRachelleRun I noticed unusually low HR recently when it should have been much higher. I thought my Garmin must have been broken, but later read that dehydration can cause a decreased HR. Perhaps that has something to do with it?0 -

I see people are progressing! I cannot since we have really high temps here. I also want to welcome some new-entries to this forum. Running is the key to success
Guys, I bought the fenix 3 garmin GPS watch and I wanted to ask you if someone is already using it and what should I be carefull about (any cons?). Can I use the HR strap I have from my previous garmin watch with the fenix?

Enjoying running in cooler weather. My friend back in Virginia said it is like running in someone's armpit - lol. I'm not looking forward to the hot humid weather when I get home!4 -
7/1 = gym day: 1 hour strength training
7/2 = 13 miles with running group (run/walk)
7/3 = 7.5 miles and 30 minutes strength training
7/4 = Vinyasa yoga class
7.5 hot & humid miles and 30 minutes at the gym doing strength training. Tomorrow is yoga day in the morning and BBQ diet cheat day in the afternoon. I will not be logging on so I wish all my USA peeps a happy 4th! See you Wednesday, in a hundred or so posts from now.

Dehydration can be a HUGE part of it... I have enough experience with heat exhaustion to say hydration and knowing your body's needs is very important.1 -

Just a quick note (130+ posts behind already - house renovation recovery!): Atlanta Track Club has already posted "red flag" warnings for the Peachtree tomorrow ("high temps and high humidity = make sure you hydrate starting today"). Umm - duh? I'll grant that there may be SOME newbies in the 60K runners tomorrow, but 99.9% of us either have run it before or train in Georgia, and understand that July in Atlanta is hot and muggy. I'm guessing it's been that way for 70+% of ALL the Peachtree outings. Most of us have been hydrating like crazy for about a month and a half, if we've been training AT ALL in Georgia weather (except for those few folks up in the mountains).
Yes, caution (especially in a deeply litigious society) is not a bad thing, but srsly?4 -

Running in higher temperatures may also cause lower HRs in order to keep the body from overheating. I did a lot of research before deciding to continue running this summer and learned about the side effects of running in high heat and humidity. I wanted to be as prepared as possible! Also, higher Temps plus lower HR can a equal slower pace. Not an expert, but I know a few, lol!3 -

Brutally hot and humid yesterday morning even at 7AM. Planned on doing 5 miles but my heart rate would not stay in the easy zone so I cut the run short. I will have to get out earlier or run late in the evening after the sun is down. Hoping everyone is going to have a great 4th. Stay safe.5 -

Yep! It's hot out there. Yesterday was 85F with a Real Feel of 110F during my run time. Where was I? On the dreadmill, watching too many episodes of Supergirl!4 -
7/1 - travel day driving a rental truck from FL to AL very long 12 hour drive
7/2 - unloaded said truck, putting up new shelves in garage, moving furniture around in my house - up at 6:00 and finally dropped the truck back last night at 9:30

I feel like all I've been doing for 8 days is packing, loading, moving, unloading, unpacking. Oh yeah that's because I have been. ha ha. I had to bring so much home from my Mom's that my oversized garage is loaded and I had to go out and buy more shelving units. I told Skip when I pass away just tell the new owners of my house they have to keep everything as part of the sale ha ha
I knew the run this morning would be horrible, I've been literally on my feet non stop for days and days. I was walking 4 miles in house. Anyway it is hot and humid, but Skip went with me for 4. It's done it was awful, but I'm glad we went.
There was alot of read and I'll never remember all I wanted to comment on, but I did lots of awesome.

I booked a dexa scan mid August. I was happy with my home scale numbers until work came up with different numbers, 8 pounds heavier (dressed and in steel toe boots). I don't know if my clothes really weighed that much. Best I get on my scale is about 6. My scale says 20% bf works measurements are 27 (outside of clothes) seems to be like the Navy calculation. Figure the scan will answer questions.
My boss just tried to get me to eat homemade cheesecake. I looked at it. It smelled wierd.
I'm cold. Why do I have to work today? My check engine light is still on. AutoZone confirmed it is gas cap crap. Dang EPA regs. They can not reset it by law. Oh well. Bet he would have if dh would have shown him his kitten. Haha. Trying so hard today to do NOTHING at work today.

If you weighed yourself with out clothes when you first got up, that will be the lowest weight of the day. You can easily eat/drink 2 pounds of food then add your 6 pounds of clothes and get that 8 pounds.
And I read your post while chewing on a hot dog, so I say yes to lunch time.

I have had my weight fluctuate about 4 pounds during a day so I am thinking it is normal.
Love the ramblings, not sure which category I would fall under, but leaning towards trying to ditch work.
And yes it is lunch time here LOL. About to run down to the cafeteria so I can eat before my one o'clock meetings begin otherwise I will be having a "hangry" afternoon.1 -

I don't know if dehydration can cause low hr, but it does contribute to low bp in my experience. Doc said the rise in heart rate with low bp can indicate something amiss. My Garmin does act up on occasion, so it may be your Garmin lol I suspect it has something to do with sweat (too much/too little?), but I have to wipe the skin and move the Garmin around to get a proper reading again within a few minutes.0 -

@9voice9 - Well, lawyers don't have to be runners. There was a similar announcement about hydration before Medved 5K to Cure ALS; it was humid, but not terribly hot. And my church put me on the prayer chain for running in the heat and humidity. My take was, it's a 5K. How dehydrated am I going to get in 20 minutes?
But then I saw some of the deconditioned people who needed to walk much of the course, and may have needed 40 minutes to an hour to do that 5K. @Elise4270 - Don't know about your foot size, but when I was wearing steel toe boots in 1996, I weighed them. They weighed 2 lbs, per foot. So that's half of your 8 pound difference, just in footwear. It's pretty easy to believe you could have 4 pounds of other clothing.
